@Voodooi
Whats the room temp? around 22-25C ? Happy to learn it can handle SC2 in Ultra(1920x1080?)
-
Room temp is about 17C. Ya, the only games you have to lower it to High on are customs that fill up your screen with hundreds of units.
And yeah, I play everything at 1920x1080.
Edit: I would probably die with a room temp of 25C> lol. -
17? Think my room could only hit that temp when it's raining here and the AC is on. well that's good enough to hear can't wait to have my as well
.
-
Am in india and its never possible to reach those temperatures.. Its hot.. 32C.. So at this temperature what gpu temperature you expect with g53?
-
Hi Ive been following the thread for a while,
How much would the difference be between a 1366 x 766 and 1900x800 screen?
Will I regret not waiting for the higher res?
Im from France and here's whats offered at this moment:
* Ecran 15,6" (1366 x 766p)
* INTEL Core i7-740QM
* NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 M
* Mémoire 4 Go
* Stockage 640 Go
* Graveur CD et DVD
* WiFi
the price is (should be) a 100 (140 usd) euros less that ordering from the US,
for a lower res, memory, hd, as well as no bag-mouse.
Alright I think I might just put a hold on it after writing that.
There is no waiting another howmanymonths though, the higher resolution screen hasnt yet been anounced over here. -
I'd wait.. 1366x766 just isn't good enough for such a good computer.
-
Is there a review around for the 3d version? I really like the idea of 3d, but that whole 1366 x 768 screen res makes me think twice.
-
I think 3D has too much tinkering problems right now to make it stable and painfree
-
Woo hoo! I just heard from bhphotovideo that my G53 has shipped. I should be receiving it by Friday at the latest.
-
Anandtech just did a review of the Asus WiCast. Since we all were talking about this in the thread over 100 pages back I thought everyone would want to check the review out. I think I'm going to stick to a wired connection at the moment.

Thanks! This pretty much eliminated my concern. I can now game non-stop without worry about the gpu temperature
-
My unit should be delivered tomorrow - its going to take me a bit to tweak the OS and install software but I'll try to give some impressions once it's in my hands.
-
My thought exactly! Especially the palm rest area is still super cool after 5 hours++ game play!
Btw, what's your average gpu temp after playing some graphics intense games for more than 5 hours?
Besides, what method you use to clean and protect your lid surface , keyboard & palm rest area? I'm using ArmorAll Original Protectant Armor All - Product Detail
but not so sure will it causes harm or any side effect in long run.
For the LCD, is it safe to use those LCD cleaning kit sold at Amazon?
Thanks!
-
I just got the vinyl for the lid, it's a pretty thin sheet, i cut a small piece and applied it to a similar matte plastic, looks a little hazy now but i'm hoping it will go away after a couple of days. I'll let you guys know
-
It should be OK to use a standard LCD cleaning kit.
For most televisions and screens the best advice is to use plain distilled water, and if you need something more aggressive make a 0.5% detergent solution. But more often than not, clean water combined with a microfiber cloth is sufficient.
I wouldn't use ArmorAll on the palmrest. If you look up their material safety data sheets (MSDS) most of the products have a risk warning of 2 (out of 4) for exposure to skin, saying that chemicals and/or hormones may be absorbed and could cause damage over time or with repeated exposure. -
Personally, I use a nice microfibre cloth and some staples cleaning solution that I bought for 3 dollars for both. No scratches and it cleans my AW really well.
-
Great! Do share with us the outcome , it will be nice with some pics attached.
I guess I will opt for the LCD cleaning kit & microfiber cloth with plain water.
Yeah! I shouldn't use ArmorAll on the palmrest! Thanks for reminding me.
-
What the heck is that material actually made out of? The sort of soft/rubber-y feeling stuff that the notebook is made from or coated with or whatever?
-
What? Vinyl? The vinyl is a semi glossy plastic that's very flexible, it could mold to laptop corners with a little bit of heat from a blow dryer. It feels rubbery but not soft rubbery
-
Metallic, another poster on the boards, is working on one. I'd keep an eye on the review forum, it's bound to pop up sooner or later. In the meantime, you can find some of his impressions of the 3D (and the lesser screen resolution) a few pages back in this thread.
-
I'm looking forward to your review on the G53 skin as well. Pics would be greatly appreciated
-
Here's a pic of it when i freshly applied it
-
I will be doing a benchmarking review on the games I have sometime this week ...if I don't run into windows startup issues again like I have all day.
But yeah, if everything works out, I'll post them for:
- SC2
- C&C4
- C&C3
- RA3
- WoW
- BF: BC2 -
Aight, after a couple hours, it's barely visible, will give ur g53 a semi gloss look though
-
when did you ordered? I just want to know how much further I am in the pre-order line.
-
wow the 3d version of G73jw is going to have fullHD screen... If I cant get a G53 by then, I'm gonna get the g73jw 3de despite the crazy size of the G73
-
That's pretty HOT! Have the prices been discussed yet as well as the release date?
-
I ordered it last Friday. Bhphotovideo has both the 3D and the non-3D G53 in stock at the moment.
-
Oh boy does the G73JW-3D look amazing ...
/drools!
21 more days until its release too! I expect this baby to be sell VERY well, considering it has the blu ray writer, 1080p res on a 3-D laptop!
Asus G73JW-3DE 17.3" FHD 120Hz/NV GTX460M 1.5GB/740QM/8GB/1TB 7200 SSD Hybrid/BD-Burner/ ETA Nov 22: GenTech PC Store
Arghhh I want one LOL! Only reason I skipped the G53-3D was b/c of the screen res. too!
I take it this will be the first HD 3-D laptop ever? Or has there been some in the past? I know HP is unveiling one in December, but I have yet to see its specs.
G73JW-3D = Best laptop of 2010 imo (for value/specs combo) imo! -
did you guys get this deal with your g53?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Everyone gets it. As you can see it is on and in the box from ASUS.
-
Ug - someone can have mine if they want. I refuse to go anywhere near that game or provide even an ounce of support for an Activision partnered product.
Edit - code claimed. Glad I could turn my hatred for Bobby Kotick into joy for someone else : ) -
I dont understand the point of that promotion, 7 hours is nothing, now if it were a free copy, oh man
wonder how many FPS you get on 1080p on high res setting, my guess is like 10 -
Well its useful if you want drag your friends into it
-
I would have been first in line for that game...except it's got activation. So I'm waiting-if it comes down to $5 or whatever at some point, I'll bite. Otherwise, well their loss-I've got plenty of games to play, people who want my money.
Yeah, it's weird...I was momentarily kind of excited, and then I realized "you're jumping through hoops for a DEMO?" -
So I received that plastic from ebay, I tried to put it on... I failed... miserably.
It's very hard to do so because its not very easy to cut to fit the laptop, the laptop has soo many curves.... I have it on right now, but when I open the screen, the plastic that is on the sides beside the screen hinge crumples because it has barely any room.
Whoever tries to get it, make sure a) you need to install it while wet (put some water so you can move the vinyl around. b) have a razor to cut the plastic. c) patience
I really say wait or look for something thinner.... -
You need a blow dryer, razor, tape, and a squeegee, i'll show u when i get my laptop
oh can u also take a pic of it on urs right now? -
Any news on Zagg Invisible Shield? I saw on their site they made some for G1's.
-
17C ~ 62.5F. We're floating around 80F here which ~32Celcius. Waddya think my CPU and GPU temps would be with a few hours of SC2 on Ultra? And with those temps, would it warrant me spending some MORE money on a cooler?
Notebookcheck.net has a review for the 3DE. You should wait for Metallic's review though. He promised us a very THOROUGH review
The rubberized-plastic on my Samsung D500 and D600 phones were a coating ontop of the plastic. It scrapes off/wears off with usage and over time. Eventually it just wears down to the hardplastic underneath, which is absolutely fine. Can't think of anything that's made of the same material, besides videogame controllers made by Logitech and various import cellphones--sorry. I hope you can imagine what it'd feel like with my lame description
P.S. I'm still on the ropes about the G53. Various users recommend E14 (yet once again, but others say wait for SB and ATI 6xxx).
@Bustr0sBustr0s: You had an E14 in the past. And now you're getting a G53. How did you justify your choice(s), and do you think I should follow suit? Price isn't much of a factor to me, as I hope this lappy will last me for 2-3years (or until it becomes obsolete in terms of SC2 gaming).
TYIA as always! -
You definitely wont need a cooler for the G53. The duo vents are tilted upwards and I don't feel heat, so I'll doubt 10 or even 15 more degrees will make a drastic difference in what the laptop generates.
Perhaps Metallic could give presice numbers since he lives in California (I think) and I live 4000km north
If he doesn't live in Cali, I know AnimataurKo lives in San Francisco.
-
Ms. AnimataurKo lives in Frisco, where there's much cooler temps than down here. We're gonna have 90degreesF tomorrow and throughout the week (SHEESH). I feel sorry for the youngins, cuz they don't even know what Autumn/Fall or Spring means.. It's jsut either cold cuz of normal winters, or VERY hot the rest of the year. Poor kids. (Also, felt sorry last night when me and my gf gave out candy to kids, and there was like 20total kids who came by). They don't even know what true trick-or-treatin means! Damn you economy bust!
Also, there's a slickdeal for the E14 for 849+tax=945 for various configs (i5-560m + 6gb Ram or i5-450/460m + slice battery)... Trying to see if someone can give me a screenshot of the 1366x768 to show me what the desktop looks like. It's a VERY good deal for that hardware, dontcha think? But alas, the G53 is still oh-so-tempting.
Someone convince me or enlighten me, please!
-
Texas.... but it's actually hailing big time now... cars are going off all over... Thankfully I invested in a carport
Anyway, the temps are pretty stable here, this laptop really does a great job dissipating heat. But honestly the real test is when I go overseas and work on-site projects where sand storms are ever hour on the hour and the sand gets inside through the inch thick ac filters and the temps are around 40 - 60C daily.
I had my g50vt-x1 there and it overheated on me, but it overheats here as well and all I have to do is just to lift the rear. -
Hm... Don't think I'm gonna get the E14 after all. Ppl in the slickdeals thread say that prices will come down EVEN lower by end of this month (BF deals I guess...) Also, prices will prolly come down also by beginning of next year cuz of SB's launch, right? Therefore, my eyes still on YOU, G53!
-
I say wait for my review, I wrote a paragraph explaining it's size and the capabilities of it.
-
Wow, what a deadly job! I'd hate working in those conditions
Yup Dookie, the E14 deal is good, but the vents are no contest when comparing them to the G53. The E14 has a single vent which is on the right side of the machine and if you game on your lap, prepare to get it torched. The G53 on the otherhand, will never abuse its owner
I don't think you should wait another 2 months for the E14 price drop ...SB sounds overhyped to me. It's not like waiting 20-30 seconds for your G53/E14 to load is such a big deal. Sure SB is 5 seconds, but still lol. I'm absolutely sure you'd be happy with a G53 because you're like me - You rush and buy cheaper items, and then punch yourself in the face b/c you were "cheap" (I do that with alot of tech, just not the G53) and it's not performing to your standards. The Stealth Bomber and you are a match made in heaven. -
You guys.
I received my machine today.
Excuse me while I disappear for a day or so to spend some quality time with it.
Initial thoughts so far: My rainbow keyboard is magical, I'll try to take a good photo of it tomorrow for you guys. The keyboard is fantastic, though it seems to absorb oil a little too easily -- I'm a clean person, but my keyboard is already starting to look like I just ate a greasy soft taco or something.
Touchpad is... well, it's okay. I'm not a big fan of it, but it isn't the worst in the world.
The monitor is top notch. Bold and bright and not afraid to blind you with its glory.
L4D2 is OMG. All this time I've been playing it on low res settings, but I thought I'd push the G53 a bit and max out my settings. I... I didn't know the infected in that game were so... GROSS... omg... it was awesome.
The laptop runs amazingly cool, though the right vent warms up a bit more than the rest.
Size-wise, it is perfect. It's a bit big, but I think that is because I'm used to my crummy netbook.
It's a little heavy (for a girl) but not unlivable.
I received the backpack and the mouse. The mouse is the perfect size for my hand, and my workmates actually all own this brand too, I realized... so I think I'll designate it as a work mouse for now.
My palm rest doesn't do that rattle thing that was on the videos, but the buttons on the left hand side are a little loud. Again, this isn't that noticeable at all... I just know when I hit shift now.
I did have some questions...
Mine came already set up! So I partitioned my drive and everything. I went to test my Blu Ray drive but the software needs a registration key... did any of you receive one? Because I can't seem to find one... do I need to buy the software, then?
Anyway, off to play!
I forgot to mention that... I AM TOTALLY IN LOVE WITH IT. Really the best machine I have ever owned. -
HEYYYY CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I thought I'd raise your cat... a monkey!
Glad to hear you like the laptop!
"Metallic Force" We shall play soon! -
Ms.AnimataurKo, may I ask what you do for a living that warrants all your workmates having gaming mice/mouses (which one is the plural of computer mouse?)? LOL.
Also, I be having the dilemma of E14 vs. G53 again, due to a very tempting slickdeal which brings an i5-560m+6gb ram down to $849+tax=$949! Please comment some more on what the G53 brings to the table.
'Ppreciate these tips, as well as your tips for my visit to the Yay Area next month
-
Well if you don't place an order in now, you probably won't get one til late december
-
@Anima
Grats receiving yours
.
@Metallic
