Woohoo! Congrats. I'm happy you finally got yours =D!
Oh, and for your grease comment, I'm also a clean person and if I shine light on the keyboard, there's grease stains, even though I always wash my hands after eating to touch my keyboard. I've never touched food and the keys at the same time, and yet the stains appear. Not a big deal, though.
Looking forward to the "Double Rainbow All-the-Way" keyboard pics, haha.
That's odd that the blu ray wouldn't come with software![]()
At least my God awful Pentium 1 and your netbook can retire LOL! Man, were those awful days or what? Glad the mouse worked out for you ...but if it came to having a work mouse, I'd personally use the G9X everywhere, since I'm just too used to side buttons and super spin with one finger drag wheel. For now, the Abyssus will sleep in my dresser for eternity.
@Dookie
I don't think you want to wait until December for the G53, eh?Worst case scenerio is you could sell it if you dislike it, which I highly doubt you will, and I'm 100% sure you'll find a buyer in 24hrs since G53/G73/Alienware/Sagers sell incredibly fast.
-
I honestly dont think the G53 should have a lower rez 3D screen then the G73, after all they do both have 1080p in there regular forms. Just having the option would be nice for the G53, I mean its as simple as taking the same screen and making it a bit smaller lol...and plunking it into the G53. Heres to it 1080p 3D becoming available for the G53! here here! yay hahah
-
first off, my unboxing video...
Animataurko's unboxing! You might want to turn up your audio.
The only issues I have with the machine are some Windows 7 quirks, but I think I just don't have the hang of it yet. (I'm coming from XP.) Sometimes my volume won't change! URGH!
It's really a great machine in regards to future proofing, really, Dookie. I get the feeling this machine will last me at least 3 years in great working condition. Now, if only I could see my blu ray...
I think, get the e14 if you expect to get a better computer in a year or so, but don't get it with the intent to use it for intense gaming/business/long term reasons.
As far as my profession, I'm an animator for social and casual games. We often indulge in a bit of zombie killing with our lunch hour, though... ever since L4D2 came to Macs.
And LOL at the monkey!! -
I think the reason is due to the availability of 120hz 1080p 15.6 screens
-
"OMG IT'S A G53JW ...OH MY GOD" *rips the box into pieces*
Edit: Don't forget to register it under 60 days, guys, for the 1 year accidental. I keep forgetting. Plus you need to mail the receipt too
-
Mailing the receipt means mailing a photocopy/printed of the Gentech/Xoticpc invoice, right?
-
lol... it's not working for me today... the website is down.
HAHA! You got me! -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Unless you bought it from PowerNotebooks.com or somewhere else
Yes, it means mailing a photocopy or print out of the invoice you receive from your vendor. -
Oh, btw, I know it's stupid. Go to "Roxio" folder and play it from "Cineplayer"... not from Cyberlink...
But you have to register... so make an account and activate the e-mail.
My review is 5 and a half pages and I havn't done any gaming benchmarks....
Posted!!!

Bravo, good sir!
If only I had your camera ....(lol) my review would of been decent. Anyways, you're right about the part of bringing the guy incharge of the lid to justice.
I really don't want to pull my hair out using that ebay film plastic like you did arghhh! I know I'll mess it up for sure.
I'll help you with the benchmarking ...I've already started accumulating data and perhaps we can merge it together, on let's say Saturday?
It's a lengthly process for RTS games because you have to play 4 matches per game (1 on each setting); you can't really benchmark until everyone has their bases and the final showdown occurs. On top of that, people will want benchmarks for different game types such as 1vs1 and 4v4. I guess we can do max occupants per game, because if we do 4 per setting, which is 16 games, we'll be benchmarking 1 game per day lol.s
I'm working on: SC2, BC: BF2, WoW, C&C3/KW, C&C4, RA3
*You might have to do the BC: BF2 benchmark yourself. Somehow my key is no longer linked to my account and I contacted Steam support, they took 4 business to respond and the guy told me to BUY a new key (can you believe that?!?!). So you can do it
...Btw, C&C3/KW is the most beautiful game out there on max settings, if one were to compare the difference between low and max.
Your 3-D review is making me want it!

The envy14 is a pretty amazing machine, but the build quality on the units I received was absolute rubbish. I tried out a total of 3 systems, and all of them had what I considered to be severe defects.
The first had an area of the screen that had some kind of LCD panel misalignment, so there was a big pink circle where white should have been in the lower left hand side. I thought 'no big deal, mistakes happen' so I exchanged it. The second unit came with a right hand hinge that was so misaligned, whenever I opened or closed the screen it would grind against the edge of the case and started warping the frame. So that one went back. When I got the third, the trackpad was completely off center and not flat, and in addition it looked like someone tried to pry it up with a screwdriver. There were three deep gashes across the left side of the trackpad and the frame on the left appeared to have damage from whatever tool they were using.
After that I decided it was time for HP and I to part ways, so I got back on the G53 bandwagon. My two previous computers were Asus machines so its what I wanted in the first place. However, my employer was purchasing the machine and I had to buy it in August (the end of the current funding cycle). Since the Asus wasn't released I bought the HP, but checked with accounting and they don't care if I exchange it for something else, as long as the something else is more expensive. -
Ordered mine from XoticPC yesterday! Yay! Its sitting at 1900$ with +1 year warranty 8GB, second 500GB 7200rpm HDD, + thermal compound, upgraded to 6200 Intel wireless, and I think that's it! Wee! Now to see how much duty will cost when it gets here. >_<

Ah, I tried that when Cyberlink didn't work... but it didn't work. Registered and everything! I'm annoyed, but it isn't the machine's fault... it's a software issue. I'll find a way around it, though.
So far, streaming on this thing is gorgeous and smooth, and my internet hasn't dropped once! On my netbook and even on my PC, the internet dropped all the time. I'm quite pleased with the card I had installed.
XoticPC is now offering lights in the fans! I missed it, but I wouldn't have gotten it anyway... too flashy for me. Still, it's a cool feature! -
Amazon.com: Used and New: PowerDVD 10 Ultra 3D
Used PDVD 10Ultra, but who cares, all you need is the legit key and d/l the software.

-
i remember seeing that on ebay for 3300ish
-
When you receive your machine, can you confirm what ram is installed in it please. The specs on their site say 1066MHz, but everyone else has 1333MHz listed.
Thanks -
hi mate
paid £2,441 shipped to the UK... i think it was listed as $3,300, the ssd is a biggy for me.
now i need to sell my 1 month old g73jh-a1 great machine just a little to big to carry around... shame though its an awesome machine...
thanks
Ian
yep thats the one
ASUS G53JW-3DE i7-940XM 1.5G GTX 460M 8GB RAM SSD 3D on eBay (end time 27-Nov-10 06:05:08 GMT)
looking forward to recieving it...
Ian -
No problem. What's annoying is that they didn't have the specs listed when I ordered my laptop and so I called them and they told me over the phone that the ram was 1333MHz. I'm curious as to what it's going to be now.
-
For anyone who's had luck with Left4dead2 - did you have to do anything special? Every time I try to run it, it loads the level then immediately dumps me back to desktop. I've updated the video drivers and still no luck.
Edit - got it working, had to verify the files within steam and an error was found. Working now. -
Are there any pictures of the fans?
-
How come E bay sellers have it in stock ?
-
Where did you hear that there are lights for the fans now? I plan on ordering a G53 3D from either Xotic or Powernotebooks, lights in the fans would definitely tip me towards purchasing from Xotic.
Also has anyone gotten one of the hybrid harddrives? Are they any good? -
I checked and saw it in the configure to order page.
EDIT:Sorry, it's only for the Asus g73jw. -
i think its for G73 not sure if they can do it for g53 yet... it is 99 bucks...
-
Yea, it is not in the asus g53 CTO page.
-
For those who can't wait for the g53 and are contemplating on getting a g73: g73 jw for 1500: ASUS G73JW-XT1 Laptop Computer - Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz, 8GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, Blu-ray Player/DVDRW, 17.3 Full HD, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Black, 2-Year Warranty, 1-Year Accidental at TigerDirect.com
Has everything a JW would have except, second hard drive and backpack and mouse -
My apologies if it caused any concerns.
You are correct on the specifications not being there 'till yesterday. On Sunday there was just a picture and a brief description. What I found odd was that in the accessories being shown, there was additional 1066MHz memory for purchase. So that led me to request a confirmation when your arrives. I hope it is 1333MHz though.
I am tempted to just take a trip there. But $125.00 in taxes is holding me back. That's the Blu-ray drive and better Wi-fi card if ordering somewhere else online (when in stock). Then again, any problems and I can just take the train there and exchange it.
But, I'm also waiting for benchmarks of the GTX 470m that resellers are starting to receive for the Sager as well.
Decisions...
-
The 470m GTX is somewhat 5-10% improvement from the 460m (Basing it from its Specs) and it's somewhat pitted against 5870m.Only downside is that it cost higher than both 460m and 5870m.

Quick shots of the keyboard in my darkened apartment, reminds me of Tron:
-
Great congratulations to Metallic , AnimataurKo & Butr0sButr0s ! Have wonderful time with your beloved G53
For those still researching and can't pull the trigger, here are some pics of my g53 for sharing. Sorry for low resolution though.
-
the more I see it... the more I wish it is on my desk now...
@Ken - where am I on the line up anyways... -
Great pix. Thanks!
EDIT: How much battery life do you get turning on backlit kb + lowest screen brightness + NO wifi. -
My rainbow keyboard.
Still loving this machine. Had half the adobe suite open and netflix streaming, and it ran without hiccups! -
Nice Keyboard anima
. You should have put pink in the center
-
Wonder how much it cost to have custom colors done?
-
It's cheaper to just do it urself, colored film is like 4 bucks at an arts and crafts shop
-
Maybe same?$39 for 1 color then Rainbow colors from XoticPc cost$69.
-
Good idea. Just ultra-troublesome I bet, since it's prolly for each key, right?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No, it is really simple and shouldn't take you more than 5~10 minutes.
-
Just for the heck of it? haha
-
vs. Someone else's desktop screenshot on the E14 with 1366x768:
They look to be about the same size (icons, spacing, text size, etc)... Does that mean that there won't be much of a diff, besides the actual monitor size diff? What I'm trying to get at is--1366x768 will look okay on a 14.5" lcd, if its directly proportional to the 1920x1080 on a 15", right? Cuz if so, then I think the E14 might be okay for me. UNLESS you guys think otherwise
Battery life is pretty tempting, as well as the $945 pricetag for a i5-560m+6gb ram on teh E14.
Please advise. -
@dookie
Lol. The Envy14 is really tempting but you might regret it in the future ->(Ohh why ohh why I didn't pick G53 at that time
)
-
Here is the guide of how to do it
:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/6710457-post193.html -
The Double Rainbow Guy would be proud of that keyboard, AnimataurKo!
@Dookie:
I'm 100% you'll regret the E14. Burning your lap, gaming at low-med settings and sometimes lagging, possiblities of doing several RMA's due to chipped sides/misalligned touchpad (apparently you have a 1 in 5 chances when I read the E14 forums 2 months ago). Plus, it may not even handle new games 1+ years from now due to the very old graphics card
If I was @ your house, I'd use your credit card while you slept and order you one LOL (jk of course)
-
Eep.
That's it? Wowza!
Tis true. I've been having my doubts, especially since the last 2 years or so, I've been saying "They just don't make 'em like they used to," when referring to HP lappies. There are, however, users who praise their E14's alot. Some even say that the 450M+5650 will play SC2 on High, and the i5's have already been confirmed to play PCSX2 and Dolphin emulators w/out problems. Only thing like you said though, RMAs due to problems/cosmetic error.....
Tough choice guyz. Burning my lap won't happen, as I always put my lappy ontop of a Scrabble box
Also, the E14 has really good cooling. Only thing holding me back from E14 is the build quality+risks involved+non-futureproofability. Damn you Carly Fiorina!
-
For 500$ you got quality, less risk, futureproofed(3~5years at most) plus it has good insurance
free bag and mouse lol. I got the same dilemma last month (thinking to buy refurbished Asus G51/G60jx, then Sager 8690 / G53/G73)and saw some G53 reviews it finally came to one choice
Asus G53, the smaller version of the G73jh
