i feel bad for those who are waiting in the list... :(

    as for me...
fortunately i'm in a total saving money mode now, and will only be able to buy the G73JW-3D (for its 1080p screen) by the beginning of 2011. that really help me to deal with the frustration of the delay... :p

i'll order from any supplier who can accept PayPal payment from overseas. :D

The problem is they are focusing on the G73 series and not the G53 Series. This is why we are seeing this consistent delays. We were told the 12th just yesterday so maybe then or the following week on Monday. The big shipment in December will likely keep going back as this one pushes back but then again you never know with the way it has been going.... :(

Tested mine WHILE running SC2 on ultra, daily virus scan, defrag, msn, 10 tabs, steam, and making a movie in sony vegas.

    76C

That's perfect. Not a single feel of heat on my lap.

76C is nothing with all that work. I don't know why you think the G73 will be crazy cool in temps compared to the G53 lol :p

Yeah give it a try, it's not very difficult and everyone can do it. :)

No you don't need to glue them back after you put the colored film.

750GB 7200rpm hard drive shortage is still the main issue, when there are parts shortage it's really nothing they can do.

they might have a 500GB 7200rpm version just like what they did to N73JQ.

If that's the case, then ASUS is not pulling the right move. I am pretty sure people are ok to go with a 500GB 7200 rpm drive, since people buying g53 are going to consider SSD anyways - at least for me.

Like come on, this thing has eSATA, USB 3.0. An 2T external drive using these ports is more than enough storage (and speed) unless there is a game that will consume 300GB+ of space on installation.

At least, thanks for telling us.

What's so special with that new 750gb hard drive anyway? Is it more efficient or something?

I think i will be going with the amazon's g73jw thats on sale for 1449$.. Its not that big compared to g53 and is only half a pound heavier than the g53 and i am a fan of that rubberized finish in the g73 and also some reported that the g73 hannstar display is far better than the g53 display..

Argh. This laptop has tons of interest, you would think that would count for something. :(

Oh well, still holding out hope it will make it before Christmas.

The G53 doesn't have eSATA, only USB 3. Not a big deal to me, though.

Is there a Smaller ac adapter for the G53 we can also use like 130 or 120 watts
so can have 2nd ac adapter to carry around

or its not advisable to get anything less than the 150watts that comes with it ?

    thanks

The only way to be safe would be to measure the current going into the laptop and make sure your adapter can provide an adequate amount. Unfortunately all of the equipment I have at work is for measuring mA amounts and isn't suitable for cables drawing that much power.

I ordered my G53jw-A1 from amazon (it was on stock for a while then) on Wednesday and got it on Thursday using my prime account. Though I ended up paying some extra bucks, am glad that I did that. I atleast have the machine in my hand now. Its stunning!

    Don't they look the same?

I can vouch for the G53 screen: VERY roomy, VERY bright and all the colours look beautiful. :)

I assume the G73 is the same ...just with a little more room.

Yup, they wen't insanely fast. From what I can tell ASUS is actually still shipping small batches out. They sent a few small batches to the resellers first and they are now shipping small batches to the larger retailers. Hopefully they will cycle back to the resellers again and not keep pushing back their shipping dates. I've always wonder if this disproportionately impacts resellers whom, I assume, are not large enough to negotiate punitive missed ship date financial penalties. For ASUS laptops probably not as I remember the G73jh being in such short supply at launch everywhere. So much for the time value of money.

I have some questions- 1.One of my friends told that we cant differentiate the 900p with the 1080p in a 15 inch screen and we need atleast a 21 inch display to enjoy the full aspects of the full hd eye candies.. Is it true?
    2. is it possible to swap the i7-740 with a i5 processor so that optimus can be enabled?
    3. Does the nvidia drivers automatically downclock the gpu when we are not performing graphics intensive tasks or else should we manually do it?
    Thanks for your replies

    Very True...

I've been having a few issues, nothing serious though. Like my vga or hdmi doesn't get automatically connected and displayed when I plug them in... yeah that stupid of issues.

Other issues, the 3d stayed on after exiting a game, but the game isn't officially supported so that's understandable. It's 007 Blood Stone, i dunno why it's called that, since the game has nothing to do with stones... (i give the game a 7/10) 3D takes an even bigger performance hit with non officially supported games.

Some games DON'T DO 3D WELL, some have terrible problems with the display of the game as a whole... I'll explain later.

I think I'm starting to understand why SSD is soo much better, installing games while using the laptop really bogs it down.

The laptop is such a great value... any alienware that comes close to this would cost 1k+... so kudos to Asus.

This laptop does turn heads... had people wowed every now and then... I keep bringing my 3d pairs along...

Best of luck for whoever is getting them...

I've been trying to work on benchmarks, but i'm too damn busy now... I'll be virtually nonexistent in this forum in Dec.

And for all of you who are eagerly waiting... I'm glad I waited :D

Any questions I'll be happy to answer!

I guess the g53-3de will not create a big buzz because of the new g73-3de with 1080p.. People who want the 3d effect will not mind the size difference because of that 1080p resolution in g73.. Also latest envy 17 is coming with 3d.. Any idea which is better nvidia 3d vision or the ati's 3d tech?

    1. Totally false. You'd need a pixel density roughly 4x that of 1080p on a 15 inch screen before there was diminishing returns due to limits of human eye sight. If your friend was just subjectively mentioning that there's little difference between 900p and 1080p well that's just his opinion.

    2. The spec sheet from Asus lists i3 and i5 as supported but out of all the various models so far I think they've been i7. Optimus is overrated anyway (though admittedly helpful for battery life). It was very problematic for me when I used it on another laptop (not reliably switching for some games, sometimes switching off in the middle of a game, etc.)

    3. Yes. It's downclocked significantly when its not doing anything.

Sitting here on a Sunday morning in Sydney waiting in anticipation for my G53jw-a1. Got in country on Friday morning but stupid customs/UPS held it up...

All the procedures and stuff was sorted by 10am.. but UPS refused to delivery it on Friday.

Official quote was.. "we scheduled it for a Monday delivery so its coming out on Monday." I know due to previous contacts that they had a mid day run from that facility. They said yes there is enough time but they wont because it was scheduled for Monday.... GRRRRRRRR

My G53 came in last night from bhphotovideo. It's ram is 1333MHz even though they list it on their site as 1066MHz. They messed up on their site.

I think the specs are correct, the thing is as it happen with the G73JH at the beginning, there was a shortage of 1066mhz memory on the market, and most got 1333 memory, also the G73JW-XA1 is also suppose to come with 1066 memory but mine came with 1333, this might change in the future depending on the suppliers of memory.

    Hi sychen,

Bureaucracy always sucks but the wait will be worth it I'm sure and will soon be forgotten once you have it in your hands.

Interested to note that you are the first of us Aussies that I know of that has taken the plunge and actually ordered from OS.

Do you mind sharing a few details like about who you ordered from, extra GST costs, customs costs, shipping etc cause I know a few of us here that would be keen to know. You can PM me if you prefer..........it would be much appreciated.

    Cheers
    John

    - Command & Conquer (all of them)
    - SC2
    - WoW
    - Battlefield
    - Star Wars: Battlefront

And a few more. I haven't encountered a game that the G53 couldn't handle on ultra yet =D

The G53 and G73 are too similar in specs to expect any different performance from both.

    Hello sychen,
If you don't mind, I would like to know the procedures, plus the taxes etc.
At the beginning of next year I'll be in Aussie, and will buy the laptop from there too, so I'm dying to get any info on importing from US.

If you don't mind sharing the info, that is...

    Thank you.
