Not very odd. Most of the larger retailers will negotiate financial incentives to insure products are supplied on time. If the product is not delivered on time often the terms will change. I believe the two most common devices used are a discounted invoice price per unit or increased payment schedule. It may sound counter intuitive but the ability to extend the payment schedule is often the more valuable of the two options.
Resellers provide a valuable long tail market for manufacturers due to their customizations and additional support. But the bulk of sales is still going to come for large online retailers and big box retail stores.
Taking into account the potential for financial penalties and the larger market its not surprising to me that larger retailers have received the first large shipments of units. Lets not forget the resellers received units, albeit small quantities, weeks before the retailers.
As much as it is frustrating to wait I really don't want the first unit shipped, I want the best possible unit customized to my specifications. That means waiting a bit longer which, while annoying, is worth it to me.

OK, I've tried the tutorial to mod my keyboard backlight... It works ^___^
Thing is, I think that the led power chord edge (which connected to the laptop frame) seems to a bit loose now, resulting in led going on and off at weird times...
Any ideas on how to fix it? I'm planning to fix it by adding some plastic buffer beneath the wire to keep it tight as my last resort... -
This, although expressed far better than I could do so.
I seriously considered ordering through one of the big box or online retailers when I was first looking at the G53. None of them had it in stock at the time, however, and I liked the idea of having a second set of hands/eyes look at and examine the machine through some customization before I got it. So I went with one of the resellers. You also get added customer service/support through them that you don't through the big online retailers. That's what the slight extra cost (and wait) buys you. In the long run, I'll appreciate that more than an extra month of playtime or a few saved dollars. -
Xoticpc is now offering a downgrade hard drive from the 750gb to a 500gb hard drive. They are also offering afterburn and they are working on a on and off switch for it. Anyone going to change their order for these options?
-
It would be great if they have a on and off switch
-

We are making good ground on the on off switch for the afterburner lights. Placement is what we are trying to decide on right now. What do you think...behind and underneath the fan area so it is more out of the way and you dont bump it all the time? Or towards the front? I'm not sure either placement really matters too much as they both are going to be easily accessible. I have a feeling that towards the back might be the easiest place to place it so that is where it will probably end up. We wanted to add it since so many people have requested the ability to turn it off. We will update everyone when the adjustment has been made.
-
I think the front is better
-
Joseph@XoticPC Company Representative
That is where we would like to put it, but positioning could be difficult just due to location of everything else there. We are playing around with both locations though and will do the one that feels better and also the place that it can be secured the best. I think if the overall feedback is that everyone getting the mod would prefer the front we may just find a way to make it work. I will say that this is one cool mod in person though. It really does look great.

you dont think soldering an led bulb and wires to the fans power source voids the warranty? i played with this years ago only to abandon the project for a simple reason. Asus will decline any and all warranty on this especially for your international customers. you cant hide it like a cpu upgrade. you cant make it look original. any technician new and senior will decline warranty service for your customer. if you are selling this upgrade you better advertise that your company will cover all warranty service and shipping expense to and from your customers. -
Updates on the shipments?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
They are coming in today and tomorrow, with another shipment scheduled for next week on the 16th.
-
You had me excited for a second, then I realized I didn't order from you.
BUT that's still awesome news!
And kudos to Joseph and his staff for putting up with me for my tens of emails that I've exchanged with them in the last week alone. -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
One shipment actually arrived last night and the other one is today. There is expected to be another shipment next week and maybe the week after from what we have heard.
Thanks for your kind words!

-

-
I got excited for a second. Then I checked and it's still processing
-
I ordered mine in Sep from GenTechPc
& hope to get it by the end of this month
cant wait
-
It's good that some shipments are coming through.
-
Now if only the rest of them would come through!
-
Waiting for Amazon to have 'em in stock. Whendya think they will? XA1 looks very good atm imo.
-
XA1 has a very limited warranty and missing backpack, if it matters.
-
We hope there will be enough units for everyone.
You should have it by early December since more shipments are coming, I don't think you have to wait till January.
There are wait list but if you can PM me your order number I can look it up for you
There are multiple shipments coming in this week and next week, if the shipment is big enough we should be able to fulfill your order.
If you pre-ordered in September I am sure you are on this week's shipment.
-
We have them right now in the US. (But be quick!)
4 A1's Amazon.com: ASUS G53JW-A1 Republic of Gamers 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop (Black): Computer & Accessories
4 3D's Amazon.com: ASUS G53JW-3DE Republic of Gamers 3D 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop (Black): Computer & Accessories: Reviews, Prices & more
Amazon uses a real time inventory system. As soon as they are scanned in at receiving in one of the facilities the quantities on the website update. As soon as someone completes a purchase the quantity lowers. Items as popular as this tend to come in one bay and then head out another, spending maybe a few minutes total in an Amazon facility.
That was fast, the A1's Amazon had are gone but a 3rd party has a few left... -
I wouldn't buy anything through 3rd party's that don't have the 'fulfilled by Amazon' clause - otherwise returns can be a nightmare.

I have the AW m17 with Ati 3870 in crossfire
& now getting the G53 with 460m
what would be the difference in the graphic card performance like 10 /20% or more with the 460m ? -
this link will help you
Mobile Graphics Cards - Benchmark List - Notebookcheck.net Tech -
You'll be like 5% worse performance I think.
Better off getting an Alienware M17x w/ 5870 CF. -
Notebookcheck puts the 460m above though not by much. It's a tall order to compete with crossfire/SLI even when its a generation or two behind.
I think your performance will be similar in older titles but probably better in new ones with the 460. I wouldnt use 4-5 year old benchmarking apps as your comparison. Fire up some games released in the last year or two. -
Thanks that is very helpful
Its the weight thats the problem
even the m15x is heavy -
Hello,
Can anyone tell me if the optical drive on the new version G53 laptop (bluray) can be taken out and used with an external USB cable to plug into another USB port on another PC/laptop etc?
I know I use to be able to do that with some Dell drives, wondering if the asus one can do it?
Cheers. -
Um... not to mention that a similarly specced m17x with Crossfire will run you twice as much as the G53. Yep, $3K. Even if you go bare bones and upgrade nothing but the video card to what he suggested, you're still running over $2100.

Announcement: tan tara rum pum paaam
mine is being shipped tomorrow
THANK YOU - GenTechPC
Glad I ordered with you guys -

The ASUS G53JW-A1 does not come with a Blu-ray drive, but you can take the Combo Dual Layer DVD +/-R/RW CD-R/RW Drive out and put it in an external USB SATA DVD enclosure to use with any other computer.
Finding a USB SATA Blu-ray external enclosure may be a bit more difficult, but if you can find one, that will work too. -
The QHD model does.
LU Computers
I've seen Dell laptops that have removable optical drives been able to put a USB cable straight from the drive to any USB port and thus get functionality. Nice little addition for these types of drives.
Does anyone with the G53~ with a bluray know if they have USB connector?
Thanks -
Sacraficing 2 gb of ram for a blueray doesn't sound so bad, if only the shipping wasn't like 45 bucks, -2 gb of ram and 45 dollar shipping is almost like paying for the blueray itself
Oh snap shipping seems to be ahead of schedule, I might even get it by tomorrow! -

Hope the same happens to me lol
cant wait till next week
-
so another shipment will arrive on the 16? Hope I make it in the line. My friends were mocking me that I don't get my laptop at the expected date.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
It is scheduled to arrive at ASUS on the 16th and then will take a day or two or three to get to the resellers...IF it arrives at ASUS on time.
So, those friends that are mocking you are apparently NOT getting a ASUS G53JW-A1 correct? What is the old saying, he who mocks last mocks best...once your compare your ASUS G53JW-A1 to what they have the mockers will become the mockees
-
I've just been playing around with it for like 30 min and i have a bunch of stuff to do, like install SSDs and vinyl it but i'm liking what i see so far. The laptop isn't big or heavy, i wanna buy a nice messenger bag for it. The matte plastic is super nice and i haven't seen the lid issue.
