Anyone found a good bag for this thing, using the 17 incg from targus(bestbuy) but find it a bit too big?

I used the targus city gear when I owned my JX ... it fit nicely with room to spare for many accessories... but the bag is a bit large

I loved my Jx and my Vx... the Jx got incredibly hot under load on the left wrist pad... the GPU is right there... what you could try to help alleviate the heat and possibly increase air flow, remove the dummy express card out of the slot... It kept the pad a little cooler for me.

Thanks for that tip, didnt even know that was there :) I just did some quick testing looks like taking out that card makes a big difference.

I did find a good bag for it, first I bought a targus bag, it was a bag for a 17 inch laptop. It was a bit big for my liking.

Then I bought the one described in this review

    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3703&review=SwissGear+Sierra+Case

    Fits like a glove.

When you guys bought it, did you get a recovery DVD or did you have to create them.

What about a driver and utility CD?

    Thanks

Unfortunately Asus just recently switched to not including the OS DVD. You can apparently run a program after you get it to generate several DVDs, which will (I guess) let you do a clean install at that point.

Hi all, I'm thinking about buying the Asus G60-JX from Best Buy but have some concerns. The only way I can get this is to order online since Best Buy doesn't have a store where I live. So basically since it would be a pain to send back for repairs (heard horror stories on Best Buy) would it be best to buy a warranty from a company like Square trade that way I can just get a full refund and just buy a brand new one? Any major problems with this model I should know about? Thanks

    Also could someone post some high res pics of the laptop :). Forgive my English >_<;

i had my g60vx go back four times for the same issue , they finally replaced the motherboard because the multi media card reader would not eject correctly. Each time they said it was working perfectly and that i did not know how to eject the multi media card reader.... That was BS... after four times they replaced the motherboard

So I'm seriously considering purchasing this laptop from BB tonight. I was going to get the G73 but it's just too dang big. I need to be able to travel with the thing and I just don't see how I could ever use a G73 on an airplane. Heck I'm not even convinced I can use the G60 but I'm going to give it one more look tonight for size purposes but pretty much intend to pull the trigger.

Any voices of reason out there that think I should look elsewhere? GX640?

    Benshermanusa.com: Canvas Messenger Bag

It's a PERFECT fit.I really hated the backpack that came with the laptop, made me feel like a highschool kid from space.

I think the targus XL 17" backpack should work just fine.... and Best Buy sold them at one time as well./ I also have a 16" swiss gear that fits ok but a 17" backpack is better.

Hey guys , I just got this G60JX and updated the video driver from 188.17 to 197.16 So far so good with one exception. I noticed my idle temperature on stock driver was around 48 to 52 or 53. Right now it idles from 51 to 58 for no apparent reason and I'm not doing anything graphic intensive just browsing.

What are the idle temp you guys get? I have the back of my laptop resting on my desktop keyboard so there is decent passive air flow below...

Check your clocks at idle/2d with GPUz, in my case (GTX260m) the 197.16 drivers dont downclock in 2d/idle (always stay at extra clocks), im now using MS 197.45 drivers and they work fine, low temps at idle, not sure about the 360m. But before you do any updates, check with gpuz if the gpu downclocks in idle.

ABULA! long time no talk, how have you been? should have known you would be the first one to answer up! lol.

Perhaps I was a little haste and of course overnight cooler temperature would have effect on this. I left my JX on all night just to get it broken in a little overall and the GPU and driver as well. Right now it idles at 41c. Once again, the overnight 60's temperature helped here and I imagine it would be hotter for summer. But 41 idle is more than satisfactory.

Thanks for the advise, I'll see how this official Nvidia laptop driver works out and if not I shall try yours.

PS: They really have fixed 2 major problem for the JX. All the previous ones had key stroke lag always missing keys. This one is gone! feels more firm and every key registered. 2nd is they finally realized intel wireless was having problem with asus software and they switched to ATheros, Wireless is flawless now!

$900? Wow, that's a nice value. That's the same price Amazon has the...umm...I think it's the N61j, or something like that? It's got just a 48 core part (and with Optimus :-/ )

Thats a great price for it, specially since amazon increased their x3 model, and i yet to see any users reporting bosd with the G60 so all better... but every time i see such low prices something new is coming, wondering if this will be the case....a G61??????.... maybe with a GTX480m.... probably not, but i can always dream of a chasis refresh with dual coolers as the G73 on 15'' form.

    1) YES! 41C IDLE! max gaming temperature after hour of modern warfare 2 never went over 76c either!

    2) Never had BSOD issue!

    3) This is very very quiet!

    4) No keyboard lag whatsoever!

I know GTS 360m is not as powerful as GTX 260m which I had before, but for this screen resolution, there's really no difference observed on my part. the new 40nm manufacture process did have its use in lowering temperature tho.

That thought did come across my mind, something newer improved (supposedly) is coming, but I have had gaming laptop of various kind for years. They mostly have one common thing...new model = new exotic problem. Guess I'll be happy with mine and let someone else be guinea pig this time

It might be, in the end, I would not pay more than 200 for the upgrade ( you're just getting a better CPU)

If you are not losing more than $100 over the JX, then maybe, but the gains/loss are really small, better cpu and slightly worst cpu (not sure if the JX also allows 2 hdd?). I probably would stay like that until the a new gpu is released with it, maybe a G61 with a 5850 or a 470, idk, thats what im wating atm, still have my eyes on a G73.... but im kinda more looking into 15'' atm since i move too much.

Both are different computers, the N61JQ comes with a better cpu with i7 720qm (quad core), while the G60JX comes with i5 430m (dual core), so in cpu the N61JQ is better pick, while in gaming the most important aspect is the GPU, where the G60 comes with a 360m while the N61 comes with 5730, if gaming is your main purpose i would chose the G60 over the N61, but neither are the best in the market, atm your best bet to play games that come with the next 2 or 3 years is a ATI 5870m, which only comes in the Asus G73, Sager 8690/8760, Alienware M17x.

I think the n61jq is a great computer, and you should be able to play games for the next 2 or 3 years, but you WILL NOT be able to max them out.

    Just a warning.

Ok, this is not a good sign. My first G60-jx had 4 BSOD within 1.5 days. Went to exchange one, now this one would shut down randomly by itself.

I do not know what's wrong but I do know it's not heat related.. At both instances video card and CPu were both idling at 40+ C range.

Whoever above had the G60VX, if it's working out for you and stable, keep it for now. Both of the bad ones were manufactured December 2009. Wonder if that was a bad batch?

It's going back to its maker.

Not sure what my next step is....G73 is nice but a bit way toooo big for me....

My VX got bricked after microsoft update : ( thank god within the 45 days return period so it went back.

HOWEVER!!!! I seem to have pinpointed to conflict between the HD Audio driver and NVida display driver 197.96 causing conflict with Asus bios thus the BSOD and crashing. I just flashed the bios to 206 now. My JX shipped with 203 bios that was December 2009. If you have time, take a look a this short post.

ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- ASUS NOTEBOOK G60JX BLUE SCREEN PROBLEM

Just updated, gonna leave it running for the night and hope for the best.

I vaguely remember there were sporadic G60 and G51 conflict of audio driver with Nvidia driver. Some member went as far as unintall the sound blaster audigy and HD audio driver to resolve the isue.

    I shall report back....

If you want to stay current you'll "have" to buy a laptop year after year. The G60jx is going to be relevant for a long time, though since the GTS 360m isn't as good a performer as the GTX 260m it won't be able to max out all games.

Like everyone says, buy a computer when you need it. Worry about the future when the future comes. Me, I'm sticking with my computer, with the "outdated" Core 2 Duo and no-longer-top-dog GTX 260m for at least another year.

And then, when my demands it, I can sell this machine for a fair sum and buy something else as an upgrade.

Just got to work. Left my computer idle all night , well, about 7 hours. No restart, no blue screen of death, nothing. GPU idle at 41c, I5 CPU idle at 43C. My first laptop would have BSOD 2-3 times already. This current one would have shut down and restart at least 2 times already and leaving an error message for me to see.

Nvidia driver version is now 197.16 and working fine under MW2. I kept the Soundblaster audigy software + HD audio software that both came default with the system.

So far it's humming along just fine and keeping my fingers crossed.

Forge, I need to be like you. Everytime I see something new, I'm like Moth attracted to fire and head over first thing in the morning to get the latest and greatest, usually being the one posting problem or fixes online lol. I save a good mount of money even after buying houses last November, but more saving is better right? Hopefully this will be a while for me, ain't got all day exchanging laptops. Besides, this is my 2ndary machine, my desktop with ATI 5870 is still the heavy weight, though I'm entertaining the idea to cross fire... god help me..

    HAHA!
I'm just like you, always fighting the temptation of getting the latest and greatest.
To tell you the truth I think this us the way to go, buy a good performing laptop relatively cheap(compared to other gaming laptops) and upgrading when you get the urge.
This way you don't spend 2 or 3 grand every time.
I'm satisfied with the BB G series, it might not have top shelf hardware but it still is about 75% to 85% as powerful as the top of the line gaming laptops.
Best part is you don't have to feel to guilty blowing a months paycheck on it.

By the way..installed Starcraft 2 on G60-JX, max resolution allowed was 1280 x 720, says it does NOT recognize my video card (GTS 360M). Hopefully its just a beta glitch.

I should be more like me too, haha. I kept my 9800m G[T]S equiped G50vt-X6 for all of... two months before I jumped shiped to the omgsoawesome G51. I've tossed in a SSD, a new CPU, and modded the crap out of it.

But since I've put so much money and effort into the damned thing, I feel morally obligated to keep it around for a while. And, like I said, the GTX 260m is still quite powerful.

You didn't say what model n61jq you're looking at, so Abula's info probably wasn't correct.

The model n61jq you're probably looking at has the same CPU, but a much worse GPU than the G60jx

No, absolutely not, because NO laptop can run every game NOW maxed out. It should be able to run every game pretty well for quite some time though.

The n61 would last a much, much shorter time than the G60jx. The G60jx is a pretty great value today.
