Does anyone know how to get the internal bluetooth adapter, and if installing it would void the warranty?
I got the BB G71 and thought I wouldn't miss bluetooth, but I'm missing it already. I could buy a USB dongle, but the doors over the ports make that a little awkward. -
dude, it comes with internal bluetooth doesnt it? at least mine does. rxo5 right? double click on the wireless icon bottom left corner of the screen.
-
Did anyone else just get the BIOS update? I got it through Asus live update.
-
Eh? Best Buy doesn't list it as having Bluetooth. Neither does CNET. In fact, they even commented on it. Are you sure you got the G71GX-RX05?

What I realize, is that I've been following and reading these G51/G71 threads since post one and not one Asus rep has identified or made themselves available to anyone. Further, if you ask several of the resellers who are present here, I'm pretty sure they will tell you the same, that Asus does not actively follow this forum.
In fact if anyone here should be credited with bringing the issue to Asus attention or the discussions taking place here, its most likely their vendors who contacted them and pointed out the issues. -
For those who want the BIOS update, please visit this post to get it:

Thanks!
-
yeah dude. even go check out the display model it has bluetooth.
-
so? is it working?
-
I had an error message with mine when I Flashed. Ive tried it a couple of times but it cant read the ROM properly. Im going to keep trying all day and stay on the forums until I get this bad boy fixed
-
yeah i think im gonna wait for the "official update" to come out on asus's website.
-
Well they did and it still is causing problems:

Asus blunders again
...

I agree it is unlikely that ASUS frequents these forums. Regardless, recognize that it is speculation and don't act as though it is fact. I have seen a few of your posts lately where you shoot people down based on your speculation. You should present your opinion as just that, your opinion.
Any mini-pcie bluetooth adapter should work. I don't know for certain but I do not believe installing one will void your warranty. I say this because the warranty sticker is on the CPU heatsink which you will not need to mess with. I suggest giving ASUS a quick email if you aren't comfortable with it. -
The system tray "Wireless Console 2" thing shows bluetooth along with the wifi, but I think that's just vestigial. I was psyched when I saw that, as BB lists it as not having bluetooth, but it doesn't actually do anything. No bluetooth in device manager, control panel, or anywhere.
@ Thunderchunkee, did you get yours at BB, and are you actually able to use your bluetooth? -
to tell you the truth no, but when i saw that bluetooth option on the wireless console I kinda figured it came with bluetooth right? but your right it don't look like there is an actual device in this thing. maybe we should try it out to see if its putting out a signal. why would they put that on here and have the ability to disable/enable it if there was no device??? well then again this is the best buy customized version. anything to save on price.
-
about his whole bios update officialism thing, I think im going to wait until i can to the website, go to support>downloads and put in my model and for a new bios to pop up there.
-
No one got it through live update? I'm the only one?
-
I haven't received mine
-
I have Live Update 2.5.7 It shows nothing to update. So far..the rom file 1201 will not load using any version of Winflash or using EZ Flash (boot sector no good). If there is anyone that has the 1201 BIOS working then please update us as to :
Where did the file come from ?
Did it include any readme file?
Which method was used to install it?
Where was the ROM file located on your hardrive (probably doesnt matter..but hey!)
Thanks,
-
i had bios version 1102 pop up in asus live, but it only has a hotfix for the f9 raid utility error.
still no 1200 or what have you... -
So where did this bios update come from?
Do we have to still wait until next Saturday still? -
-
Alright guys please stop fighting and STAY ON TOPIC. This is a big thread and it will be a real shame if we close it but lately we receive so many complains/reports that we might actually consider closing it.
Some posts have been deleted. -
I scanned for a bt signal using my phone and didn't find anything. Irritating that the system tray software is there taunting us, but the < $5 part is missing or disabled.
-
Yes please keep it clean. This thread has been very helpful thus far.
Using live update after a fresh restart it is up to date with 1102.
I suppose ASUS will roll out 1201 tomorrow morning with the live update? -
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=395957 this worked for me- just load the .rom file with the winflash while the .rom file is on a jumpdrive. I got my GPU up to 90c and my frame rates were still a steady 40ish
-
So people, the bios update is real and officially working - IF you have a thumb drive. People are now hitting 90c with no frame drops. So update people and post your Temps and benchmarks
! I want to see how this thing handles Crysis
! DeliriumTrigger, mattmar1, bludgeon, and Thunderchunkee, it's time to update
! Try it out, your Asus G71GX is now officially fine and working well past 81c!!!
-
Woot!! Been updated for four hours now. Not even hickup. Overclocked the gpu to 550 core and 950 mem, and perfect not a problem one. I have run Crysis warhead, Left 4 dead, Street fighter 4, Prototype, Call of duty 4 and 5, Pure, Dead Space and call of juarez 2. All run perfect with everything maxed!!! Also usiing extreme gear to overclock to 2.9 ghz. Woot!!!! Love the system. Its so easy to update just follow the link. I made a usb drive with the following files. very easy.
-
Check this screenie. Check the speeds and temps. It runs faster fps, but thats in a window and with the meters in front. Amazing system.
-
I coulda gone further then 90 but thats where I stopped furmark. I'm currently updating Vanguard Saga of Heroes right now and im goona see how that runs maxed out...im kinda guessing since furmark ran fine at high temps my games will run fine too.
-
So I was thinking about getting this but I noticed that the resolution is only 1440x900. How big of a difference is that compared to 1680x1050. I'll be using this for gaming and possible running linux in VMWare for some development type work.
My current laptop is junk, this is to replace my desktop. -

I've never seen anything like it. Stunning images. -
Well it looks like the G71 is fine now, time to buy this laptop!
-
You forgot to link to or attach any screenshots.
On another note, now that this BIOS is out, can someone please write up a detailed review of this notebook. I (and many others) would appreciate it. Thanks!
-
I went from 1900x1200 to this 1440x900 resolution, yes it is alot smaller, but I think it's still great for gaming @ native resolution with high settings.
I think the best thing you can do is go down to your local BB and just look at the G71 or any 17" with 1440x900. -
YES!!! WE MADE IT HAPPEN!! Good job guys. IT WORKS! Great computer for the price. Came out sooner than I could have hoped! Thanks for everyones help. Frikin Sweet.
-
Trust me people on these forums helped also. Yes, they don't read the threads to often (prob not at all); however, through all the returns and complaint calls Asus gets the picture.
-
The were too big to post. I can send em to someone to post. By the way u can just use the ez flasher in the bios to flash the new one on bootup.
-
You can go ahead and send them to me, and I'll post them for you.
-
Just wondering how are you overclocking the GPU?
-
The way I would do it is by modifying the speeds in the BIOS module (I don't know if that requires changing the voltages though). I'm not sure how he did it though?
-
I am assuming Asus will still release this BIOS patch through their updater program? I dont have a flash drive to do this with and would still like the updated BIOS.
Thanks. -
Yeah, see I'm new to do that stuff so if they have the correct configuration and a little walk through it might be helpful. Also for the CPU you are just using the overclocking system Asus supports, right?
Also I was wondering what kind of warranty people recommend? I know Asus gives 1 year accidental warranty. Do you guys think its fine with that or should I get some kind of 2 year non accidental warranty from Best Buy?
Just wondering what people think about these because I actually don't buy to many laptops. -
The 1-year accidental warranty isn't included on Best Buy models. Another poster referred me to SquareTrade, which seems like a pretty good deal ($300 for a 3-year extended warranty with accidental insurance or $150 without the accidental insurance [the accidental insurance has a $50 deductable though]). I'll just stick with my Visa Signature warranty (since it's free). For me, if I get an accidental insurance policy, I never have an accident, and if I don't, I usually always have an accident. I guess its fate.
-
Im just using Nvidia Ntune. Theyre own utility to open the gpu settings and overclock. I am running windows 7 ultimate rc and using dox modified x64 180.85 driver from latptopvideo2go.com
How can I send these pics to you?
u got an email address to send them? -
u guys know its on the Asus.com support website and you don't have to use EZ flash anymore right?
-
10,074 3DMark06 score!
Seems that once the gpu gets into 82C+ the fans start working at their max. -
SteelersWorship Notebook Consultant
Score seems a little low, given Sunny's 9555 on an overclocked G51. Was that done at stock clock? What series of GPU drivers were you using? -
TIMOUT! not working?? my frame rates still dropped right after installing?? what the hey???
-
the one on asus site is 1102, the f9 raid array bug fix
i dont see 1201 which has the gpu throttling point fix
hopefully in the A.M.
