    NiR has sexy legs.

On a non-homoerotic note, I'll second what Tev just said. Not all components are created equal, etcetera etcetera.

Feeling a bit bad for Tev, actually, since his G51 seemed to have gotten the short end of the stick component-wise.

    sad face

Well I might as well try to see if increasing the voltage will make a difference in the chip's overclocking ability, so how would I go about doing this (increasing the voltage that is).

Stop looking at my legs, that is so gay. You should be looking at my crotch.

You're just jealous your legs aren't getting any love.

Go to Tev's optimization thread. The GPU's are the same, so it'll be the same methods.

Make sure you get acquainted to blind flashing, though.

    kthx

Also what would be a good voltage to try at first?

Edit: So I have been reading that overvolting isn't particularly good for a laptop...

I've never undervolted so I'm on 1.225v as of now.

And it's really gay that the G71 GPU still downclocks at 82ºC if it has been in sleep mode.

Have you tried any of the higher clocks that the G51 owners have been using? And if so, have the clocks stuck? For instance: 600/1500/900

While the foam is perfectly fine, I would prefer to have a bracket rather than not.

guess they finally threw it up online for people to get...
    http://estore.asus.com/shop/item.asp?itemid=4316&catid=601

and ren3g7ade, if i got that hard drive, do you think it would be worth it to format and throw my operating system onto the 7200 rpm drive vs the 5400? or just call it a day and install all my games and apps i want to run faster on that?

I've already started another thread on this, but does anyone still have the keystroke issue?

Seems like not a lot of people in this thread are talking about it, but it annoys me a lot!

Is there a fix I'm not aware of? o_O

i'll get a double typing type thing maybe once every day or two, but i think its user error.... it only happens when im typing ludicrously fast as well. i think its a user error problem if what im experiencing is the double typing issue.

I never have hadd a dbl typping problemm with mine ...i use the laptop's KB and an external one about 50/50 of the time. I honestly think its from the way ppl type...i'm a very bad typist using 3 fingers on both hands..so every key hit is kinda slow and exact...i can see how people w/typing skills and typing fast could get a dbl key hit at times with this keyboard..but i for one love this keyboard!

    just my 2 c

edit: i'm getting crap stuck in my speaker cover vents, like lint or little specs of whatever. How can i clean this? just a can of air or tape or something? has anyone cleaned theirs already?

i love to clean my computer. I've already wiped it down with the cloth twice :D

Could someone please try to clock their GPU at 600/900/1500 and see if it is stable? :)

And removing/ripping/etc. the sticker on the heatsink voids bestbuy warranties. It doesn't look like I am going to be replacing the thermal paste or anything for the next three years... haha

The typing issue has been present with the G50 and G70/71 series for a while now. I'd take a guess it has something to do with the overclocking feature of these laptop's.

Open up your G71gx and prod the sticker to see if it's not stuck down all the way. The last two Asuses I had I could access the screw the tape was covering and remove it without any sign of me having done so.

I finished with applying AS5 a couple hours ago, and I can say that based on RealTemp3 and HWMonitor 1.14, my P8700 has dropped 3-4C at idle and 8-10C at load (Crysis High). I can also say that I believe it has dropped the GPU and chipset 2C at idle.

However, my attempt at treating the GPU and chipset was set back. Does anyone know how to access the GPU and chipset? Do I really have to dismantle the whole bottom portion? I could really use some help on this... Thanks!

I was checking youtube videos and the following appear,

Asus Gamer Test G60vx vs G71GX

Maybe its usefull for people trying to decide about the size between g71 n g51 (seems very similar to the g60).

On a side note they seem to be using other drivers (190.40 n 186.81).

Nope. The GPU is under that other heatsink you see to the right of the laptop.

He warned, though, that people who put on AS5 on the GPU don't see immediate results. It takes a while to cure.

i just figured anything that could read clocks would display it, and i think so, although the ntools said the factory settings was 500 not 600 on core

Well, factory is 500/1250/799. Anything you do to those clocks is non-factory.

It's just odd that CPU-Z has a GPU clock reader that only seems to give stock clocks. Not very helpful.

You are talking about the g71 yes? because from what I see, the chipset screws are under a thick plastic part of the frame and I cannot remove the gpu I believe without removing the entire bottom piece. Has anyone had experience with this on the G71GX?

Also forge, if you go into CPU-Z's GPU tab and select 'uknown' (yes they misspelled it) from the Perf level menu in the top right, it shows you your *correct* current clocks.

dude you just voided your warrenty. on mine it has a yellow sticker over on of the cpu screws... how did you overcome this or did you simply just remove and and not try to cover up that it was removed? I know i would love to place a cpu with more cache like the intel p98xx series with 6 or more mb of cache on it. but that sticker on it prevents me from doing that.

On my last to Asuses, the sticker didn't even cover the heatsink screw. It was unstuck and it was a simple matter to push it out of the way to let my screwdriver in.

On my G71, I peeled the yellow void sticker off and it left no residue at all, in fact, it still is sticky so I can put it back on whenever I need to remove it.

Wait... I mean, who would do that? I certainly didnt... *paranoid*
