Bichop, you're having the notorious problem with the g71. to fix it, get the latest official bios update from asus and get that goin on your pc. Also on top of that, thats your gpus clocks at whatever you were doing at the time, they'll go to their max when playing a game most likely.

Also keep in mind that even with the new bios the GPU presents with the downclocking problem when awoken from sleep mode.

i want to add bluetooth 2.1 to my laptop the g71gx-rx05 from best buy, i do have the usb micro slot one but want an internal one.... i have a wifi card the intel 5300 and replacing that with the intel 5350 wi-max. is their a seperate slot for a bluetooth card like on my brothers dell xps m1730? my asus g71gx-rx05 seems to only have only one mini pci slot inside the laptop were the wifi card goes.

Ok, I have what is perhaps a stupid question: Does anyone know if it is possible to buy an Asus G71 housing/laptop exterior? Just the outside, with none of the guts.

    ebay uk or china

because it has 6mb of cache on the cpu and a newer core family i think. But mainly the cache is better twice as much. I wish this thing had two or four video cards with 1tb of video ram for each card and 1tb of 10,000 rpm drives with 1tb of cache on the drives. And bluetooth for mine that is internal would be nice....

i disable all power managment...i just turn off the laptop when i want it to save power. after all this thing was never meant to be a laptop per say as the battery will only last 2 hours in power saving mode according to asus but more like 40 minutes to 1 hour of battery life for just web surfing. it needs a solar charger for this thing. perrhaps they could meld it into the screen cover with the lights..

Well mine G71 is a replacement from ASUS for my 24 month old G2S. So all I get on the replacement is 90 days. At 1st I was mad then I thought They just gave me a new laptop. so it is all good. and if it happens to go bad in a yr and 1/2 I will have bought a newer one anyway by that time.

can you provide the link to the bluetooth on the asus e store and were does it go inside the laptop? I assume it is internal right? My model is the g71gx-rx05 from best buy. i do not see another mini pci slot like the one for the wifi card....

    :(

I was extremely happy with my G71GX, and on friday..... it got stolen at gun point with my car.

I need to get another laptop for working aswell as for playing on the road, but not sure what to do, when the G71 was at $1150 i though was a better deal for the extra $150, but with the new price of the G71GX still at $1299, while the G51vx went down to $999, the $300 is stearing me to the G51, but still unsure completely, with the difference in price i can probably get a T9600, and end up with a better CPU than the G71, but i been nothing but pleased with the G71, not sure what do, what do u guys think  .

    That sucks dude...

I'm in the same boat my friend, I'm caught between the g51vx and the g71gx. Sadly, I only have until the end of the month to decide, wife is going to take the only computer (laptop) with her to her new job and I'll be left with no computer. So she said I can grab a new laptop before she leaves [at the end of the month], and these two laptops have me making a hard decision. The G51vx has a great price point, cool [backlit] keyboard, and it's pretty portable (15") but I feel I would have to break the warranty immediately to upgrade the cpu. G71gx though pretty much has good specs/cpu (which I wouldn't feel the need to break the warranty), love the size (17"? more like a 18"-19"!), but the up in price kinda kills me everytime...

The G71gx always tempts me though, I would also like to be the first one to do a [proper] unboxing of the g71gx-rx05. I know someone already did a upload but it wasn't that good...

Well I'm more tight on time, im using a really old laptop that overheats and that battery don't work so i need to have it permapluged, and i only have a couple of days to decide, as my boss goes to the US on monday and he is willing to buy it, but no trips schedule for 3 months, so its now or never.

I might try something, gona give my boss the old reciept and see if he can persuade the store manager to sell it like that given the situation, if no luck, then probably gona go with the g51, but i can feel cpu remorse that will drag me till i upgrade it, while with the g71 i never felt a need.

That's okay. I'd never bring my pistol, or my knife, to an unarmed robber. That would be a waste of over a decade's worth of martial arts.

You central valley guys should be able to apply for one a lot easier than I can here in the peninsula.

    I've studied:

Shorin Ryu Karate for two years.
Iwama Ryu Aikido for two years.
Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido for two years.
Goju Ryu Karate for one year.
    Judo for a few months.
Northern Long Fist Kung Fu for one year.
Tai Chi Chuan for one year.
Yammani Ryu Kobudo for three years and continuing.
Shotokan Karate for 11 years and continuing.

I don't tell people about this too often, but I dedicate my life to martial arts.

And what he's learned can trump six months of Krav Maga.

Oh well, we're all grown ups here. No need for "I can beat you up" threads. Unless you're Soviet, who looks like he can back that up.

No thanks. I consider myself a pacifist. I really don't like to hurt others. Believe me, I had to learn this the hard way. When I was younger, I lost control of myself and out of anger I broke a fellow's rib while sparring and had to force myself to quit Shorin Ryu out of shame. To this day I regret it and I always try to keep my head cool while trying to overcome my short temper (it is somewhat apparent here on NBR as well). Wherever I go, I keep in mind that even if I move to a new place or start fresh in something new, I cannot forget about the things I have done the past, even if I deeply wish to leave it behind me. I guess that's how we all "grow up" as you say, Forge.

I was always non-violent. The way I interact with people has always been the same: modest and witty.

Anyway, that was back then. I've suppressed my fear and anger a long time ago. I still experience them, but I have ample control of myself now that I won't ever let that happen again.

I'm sorry for derailing this thread for almost a page. Abula. If everything has been done to try and retrieve your car and your notebook, then I guess you can take a look into the G51. You will be getting a lot of bang for the buck with that notebook.

I have two quick questions. 1. Does anyone know if the screen in the G2S B1(1920 x 1200) is the same as the one in the G71? 2. Is it possible to take said srceen from G2S and transplant it with one from G71GX-RX05?

i belive the g2s didnt have a 17 inch screen, so no.
and it has a 1440x900 screen, which imo is pretty bad quality, but still doesnt bother me that much cause im sitting right in front of it.

Check the specs on newegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220215 G2S-B1 has 1920x1200 . I got it Sep 2007 after I sold my G2P http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3462&review=Asus+G2P which had a resolution of 1440 x 900. I have been looking at the spec for this on an LCD site and they seem to be the same. I will compare them when I get my replacement laptop from asus.

hey, I have a the BB g71 and Just got it a few days ago. I knew about the downclocking issue so I went right ahead and updated the bios through the ASUS live Update. So it had me update to 1501. I am currently running 1501 and am still having problems with downclocking at 82. I contacted asus and they first said to update to 1701. So I tried using win flash to upgrade to 1701 but once it shuts down computer and starts updating while it is checking the file an error occurs. So she asus person tells me to go into bios and open the flash program in there to downgrade to 1201. When I try to do that I get another error.

all I have installed is WoW and it takes a while for the downclock to happen and I dont wanna bother installing all my other games until I get the situation figured out.
