Yes I do![]()
Yeah I'm on the road a lot and getting a little tired of lugging the huge thing around, don't get me wrong I love my 9262 ( hands down the best laptop I have ever had and handles every game even Crysis with ease) but I'm thinking of leaving my 9262 home as a desktop replacement and getting/looking to get something a little bit easier to live with on the road.
Just the power brick alone is so big.
So yes just looking for a nice secondary laptop to have some fun with:![]()
(Wow! that just sounded like an add from the personals...lol)
Was really torn between the G51 and G71, loved all the extra features the G51 had over the G71 ( mostly the backlit keyboard and the smaller size) but I also really dug the all Black look and the CPU performance advantage the G71 had.
Now not really sure which way to go with each having there own issues, but the G51 looks more and more like it will be the one.Maybe!![]()
I'll will probably wait a week or two, hopefully by then the issues will be straightened out, or see if some retailers will start offering these models (and yes I do know the G71GX-A1 is delayed for a reported Bios issue).
If I'm going retail online shops it will more than likely be the G51 the Red trimmed G71 looks nice but the White G51 looks better, to me anyway.
Online retailers are a last resort, don't want to break open the old piggy bank yet.
That's why the BB models look like a good deal, probably much cheaper than what the retailers are going to charge, but I am also waiting for a E-Mail as to when my favorite online retailer gets the G51 in stock. They do say they will run some extensive benchmark and game test's on it, hopefully the results will be improved.

how do you get native 720p resolution? non of those laptops are 720p. or am i wrong...?
-
1366x768 is a little better than 720p i think
i just played crysis for about a half hour and my gpu is at 101 haha im glad i have the warranty -
Guys i bought my 1 asus G71g-7s I would like to know if this series is known for giving any problem? Till know i been satisfied with it, no overheating, no noise in fan, temperature sticks to 60º yesterday i found out a problem, not big deal, but i dont know to fix, The inside micro is working to low... and i dont get it why, because i got all micro options at max, anione can help me? anione had similiar problems?
-
played crysis again for awhile and it maxes out at 101 degrees C
-
Dont know mate whats your problem =/ I been playing fallout 3, even crysis for 4 hours in a row, and that doesnt happen to me, i check reguraly the speed of van, speed of cpu and temperature of cpu, Cpu gives me "normal temperature on asus info" and cpu speed while playing usually on 80%, the van changes from normal to max, depending on what i am doing on game
-
its the gpu that gets that hot im using the g51 tho
-
tryed upgrade drivers wich graphic card is it? I got a g71 mine is a 9800gs.. at least till now been working perfect.. to bad my micro problem
-
all the the new g51's are running kinda hot and the new g71 with the gtx260 is downclocking at 82 C, have you read through the thread?
-
To much power for a regular Cooldown id say
glad my graphic is good, and not perfect
still my micro
-
So can the this problem be fixed by a download of some sort? I really want to get this computer since my other one isnt working. I can live without pushing it to 82 degrees for a few weeks if thats what it takes to fix the bios or whatever. How confident are some of you that this will be resolved without a massive recall?
-
The G71 is so right for the price I'm willing to hang in there for a fix.
Anyone know where one could purchase another HDD bracket??? -
Kaze you don't even have a gtx260 from what I know... Also byte no one really knows yet. Try asking Asus. Also jicka you keep talking about the G51 and G71; however, my question is are you playing SF4 on the same resolution for both or diff resolutions. B/c G71 native resolution is 1440x900, while G51 is 1366 x 768. Also you are right about the resolution I got confused for a sec :\.
Not only that does anyone plan on buying the G71GX-RBBD09 with the quad? It might not have the same problem. -
Hey! I just bought the new G71 from best buy. (obviously previous to finding this thread) and am having the same downclocking issue as everyone else. Does anyone have any idea how long until asus will prolly come out with a bios update? is the GPU supposed to be downclocking at higher temerature? I will take it back before the 14 day guarantee is up if they haven't fixed this issue yet.
-
Yeah, someone contacted Asus and they claim its 105C; however, the GPU starts to throttle at 82C.
I'm now wondering if the Quad core G71GX-RBBD09 will have the same problem. It prob will but wish someone had that version -
there should be new thread about fix after its realese
-
call asus at 510-739-3777.The more people call in complaining the faster they may fix the problem!
-
-
I was discussing this situation with the guy at BB today. He is my main guy who actually seems to really know his stuff. After explaining the issue, he said on the nvidia web site, you can download a utility to kick in the fan speed higher to eliminate this issue.
Anyone tried this? Thoughts? -
My suggestion for anyone who bought it is to just return it for the time being in case they dont fix it right away or at all and again money speaks louder then words sadly , so if they see everyone who is buyin it is returning it with the same issue maybe they will get right on it instead of turning a blind eye.
-
i dont have another laptop right now, so im going to wait till the 14th day before returning. thinnking about getting the g51 instead.
-
-
Maybe he's talking about this?
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_system_tools_6.05.html
When I had my Gateway 7805, the fan speed was greyed out though. Maybe it will work on this? -
The fan speeds are regulated by the bios on almost all laptops and the only machines ive ever been able to control them on were my Dell XPS by a program called Fangui .
-
Has anyone had any other games besides Crysis that will shoot my temp about 82 degrees? I want to test out my new G71, but do not have Crysis.
Let me know if you have had any luck (or dis-luck) with any other games. Thanks! -
download the crysis demo
-
I hit that temp easily with a few games i tried , Stranglehold,Bioshock,Mirrors Edge . Its not hard to hit 82 degrees on this machine . i have the air on here but my place is not cold either like bestbuy was where it took quite awhile to hit that temp before it throttled.
Now if the place you live in is like a Fridge or you put down a beefy cooler under it you might be able to avoid the 82 degree temp for along time or entirely . -
as i said i got an asus g71g-7s, the nvidia 9800gs runs fine, i dont need more, i play crisys with all at max, on 1440of resolution and it runs just fine, and GPU heat stays on steady 70-71º i am happy with it, unlike with the sound system, all works fine i got a intel acl633 sound card with realtek system, the stupid incorporated micro doesnt work, and external micro, i nearly need to put it inside my mouth so people can listen me normal, any solution ? anione had same problem?
-
Kazekun, where did you get your laptop from? I can't seem to find any retailers/resellers
-
-
i am telling you, The game detected Pc settings and set it all to High Quality, i didnt move a thing, I lowered the speccs because laptop is new, and i didnt wanna try laptop to much since begin
but i play with most of things on high, I bought my pc in portugal this one
http://www.mlshop.net/loja/ver.php?id=223027
I can only say, was expensive, but i am satisfied, this are the games i played till the moment, all with high settings on max screen defenitions
World of warcraft, Assassins creed, Gta 4 (didnt try yet with max settings only medium), fallout 3, Crisys, Prototype, Dead Space
Never came out Disapointed, i check the CPU/GPU speed all the time, GPU never went above 71º, about CPU i dont know because program dont say how much º it goes but the program says that Cpu temperature is "normal" and never went above it, as i said, only problem i got on it is the incorporated micro that works to low -
I'd expect high to run, but not very high, so it makes sense.
Good to hear about the temp though, that's nice. -
Well i duno, only opened settings once, and was all on high, and game was working perfectly, no lag at all ^_^
Yea this laptop is expensive but worth the price, got space, memory, and everithing runs smooth, Sorry to hear that the ones with gtx graphic cards arent doing so well =/ but this asus g71 is running everithing for me pretty fine, for exemple wow, i run it till 250 FPS when doing quests and flying around northrend with very high settings, and in raids with 25 people drops to 80 FPs due to massive quantity of spells graphics, But i am pleased, my old one was a dual core 1.68ghz, 2gbs ram, and nvidia geforce 9400 gt, so i am extremly pleased with this laptop -
If Asus doesnt do anything to address it tomorrow I am just getting another laptop. At least say SOMETHING, even if its just telling the public they are aware of the problem and are trying to work out a bios update.
-
A side question:
I know upgrading the CPU voids the warranty, but is there a way I could send the notebook plus the CPU I wanted to upgrade to ASUS (or an authorized technician) and they could upgrade it without voiding the warranty (if so, how much would it cost)? Also, does upgrading the display panel void the warranty?
Thanks! -
-
With all current problems of this asus with gtx cards, i wouldnt pick one of them, if you dont mind losing a bit power on graphics, go for a g71 without gtx, you can always pick one with 9800 GT or GS its like i say.. i am extremly satisfied with mine, No fan noises, no overheating, No crashes or downstream, pretty good gaming performance, extremly fast Windows acess + programs, only problem found in past 2 weeks wich i am owner of this laptop is Integrated microphone that works extremly low... But its not hardware issue is the damn drivers for the sound board that screw that , hopefully some update later will fix, its a good laptop for the price they ask, i got asus g71g-7s, this is what it comes with:
Core 2 duo 2.66ghz, 4gbs ram, windows vista ultimate, 640gbs of 7400 RPM each, 9800 gs nvidia, extremly efficient cooling, good Sound and screen, i guess most choises in asus g71 or g50 are worth it, just check 1 if people with same Series of your g71-g50 have been having problems, because there is toons of diferent series of these laptops, dont go only for the speccs -
Just you let you know... This Asus G71GX is 1.1k dollar less than than your Asus G71. And it sports a better GPU.
2,250 = cost of your laptop
1,150 = cost of Asus G71Gx at BB. -
Thought I would post my results. I downloaded the Crysis demo and at 81 degrees, it slowed down.
I am assuming once it hit the max, it does this, because when I toggled back to the program that displays the temps, it said only 61 degrees, but the max was 81.
What do you have to do in order to play again? Reboot? -
Yep... Shut down completely is the only way to "fix" this. What a shame... This really killed my dream.
-
ok so whats this heat problem I been hearing about
? -
-
But it has never shut down like that. they need to fix that fast. it "should" be able to get up to 105 c until it shuts down to save itself i think -
Yep. Asus also said it should throttle once it hits 105c. However, it starts to throttle at 82c.
-
So this could be just a quick BIOS fix, correct?
*currently looking at G71 (BB version) or MSI GT725 for gaming laptop for college* -
Will settle with a BIOS upgrade?, Someone knows something?
 -
No one knows anything sadly and people hoping they would say something publicly are going to be very upset as that is not how they operate. It could take a week it could take a month before they have a fix for it , in the mean time if you do not want to return your machine call them like everyday if need be and in between then Email them everyday and dont take no for an answer.
I told everyone to return there machine till they fix it because they may drag there heels on fixing it or claim there is nothing wrong and you returning the machine IMHO will make the biggest statement to them about the need for a fix. When and if (which im sure they will) fix it you can go rebuy the machine knowing everything is peachy .
Its a great machine no doubt but not with such a huge flaw. -
1)Buy the zalman nc2000 laptop cooler
2) Take the bottom off (be careful with this step) and put it on the zalman
3) undervolt it
That should keep the gpu temp well below 82 until they fix it
but yea asus is generally kinda lazy when it comes to things like this -
how responsible! They need to get this crap done! -
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a fix. If you really want a laptop now look somewhere else. But if you can hold out then just sit tight. It shouldn't be such a hassle though just to get some recent games to run decent...
