I used a candle with no sucess. Except the drip of wax in under the #2 key. I finally gave up scrapping the wax out with a little screw driver.

No suction anywhere around the screen, keyboard or between the display and hump. At least that I could tell.

hi guys, i'm new around here.
I just bought a G73, I was curious about the speed of the RAM, if it would be 1066 mhz or 1333 mhz... I used CPU-z to check that out, but as I dont understand much of these things... I'm here to ask if this -> [IMG] means that my ram speed is 665.0 mhz... o0 ?

665 is the actual clock speed, while 1066mhz or 1333mhz is the effective running speed.

Just flip the computer over, unscrew the door, and pull out one of the RAM modules. It will say what it is on the backside of the module.

He could also just take that CPUz number and multiply it by 2 (due to the double data rate) = 666*2 ~= 1333MHz

666 is the frequency at which it is running but since it actually does 2 cycles of work per clock it would multiply by two = 1333mhz which is technically not the frequency speed at which it runs, more a frequency of the amount of throughput "bandwidth" (kinda confusing)

I just got into this thread, after just having returned mthe DELL studio 17 core i7 , due to major problems.

Could someone summarize the benefits...and also the exposed weaknesses of this laptop?
    Thanks.

First, let us have a few moments of silence for our fallen G73 brethren :(
    .
    .
    .
May Asus expedite a proper solution...

I have uploaded the Cinebench10 on the G73 w/ an i7 720QM. Interesting and somewhat confusing results, but the verdict is in. When I was rendering this video for youtube, the G73 was working all 8 threads, x13 multiplier and between 60 to 75% CPU usage while still allowing me to easily do other things.

To sum up the G73 for me:
    1) Very pleased with gaming ability.
    2) Satisfied with encoding ability.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKE_rRWev20

I intended nothing fancy with the video and I figured you would want to use your own tunes ;) , but you can hear how quite it is and that is with the cooler running. Comments welcomed.

Thanks for posting that up Q! +Rep for that.

So what happened to 1.6Ghz? And more importantly for me, how is it that non-turbo was locked at 1.73Ghz and turbo was lowered to 1.7Ghz? Where's that Treysouce guy.....He seems to know about this type of stuff. As Jim Rome would say....REACT TO ME!

    Thanks JS.

Never seen it when there was a full workload, it was either 1.73GHz with the Asus TT Off or 1.7GHz with it On. If it is a for real clock and not some sensor error that all the programs read from, it's good to see it to the upside.

For it to make sense, of course, we would of want to have seen 1.6GHz locked with Asus TT Off and 1.7GHz with it on, but what Cinebench and meters are showing here explains a lot of the "useless to hindrance" I have experienced with it in all the other apps before this.

EDIT: What it looks like to me is Asus TT is actually working correctly as it is outputting 1.7GHz, but for some (good :) ) reason, I have an OC of an extra multiplier from the i7, giving the clock the next step (1.73GHz), and to turn on the Asus TT negates my unexplained multiplier OC, but still boosts the freq by 100MHz.
If it wasn't for all the performance testing I've done with different apps, I might think the extra multiplier could be erroneous, but given my data, I believe it's possible that I am getting the benefit of an extra multiplier without Asus TT, only obvious on full load.

i do not understand what exactly is going on. please explain to me what the issue is... it sounds to me like the twin turbo utility used to OC the processor is buggy and not working correctly

try running prime95 @ 4 instances... and load up all the cores 100%

With TT off, you are witnessing the Intel overclock of the 720QM, which is designed to operate at 13x (1.73GHz at default BCLK) when utilizing 3 or 4 cores. With TT on, it appears that the multiplier is locked at 12x but the operating frequency is then increased by 100MHz, giving you 1.70GHz, a small net underclock. The purpose of this is unclear.

    Very nice video. Thanks.

My guess on the three strike counter is that if you get the CPU settings such that it won't POST or something, it'll try three times before resetting the BIOS to default. Or the notebook might like baseball... who knows. ;)

Thanks. The purpose was to find out how my G73 works with the turbo(multipliers), Asus TT and full thread loads since I am concerned about its encoding ability and I'm looking for the best config to do it with.

    Giving this graphic: http://communities.intel.com/message/81232;jsessionid=AFF548030BC79B502746AF0F8F4AA8E3.node5COMS

And this graphic, that shows the 920 with a single turbo multiplier at full load: http://hothardware.com/Articles/Intel-Core-i7-Mobile-Processor-Launch-Review/?page=3

I have to conclude you are correct about the 1.73GHz being normal (never was a 1.6GHz for full loads) and thank you for your input, but since that's the case, it would show that the Asus TT is just gimmicky. I doubt it would provide any assistance in 1 or 2 core loads either since the i7 clock lives or dies with the turbo multipliers and the TT might just neuter them like it does on a full load.

And Mandrake, I'm feeling it now ;) , just a little slower to the dance I guess :D . All I need is a way to unlock x15 when a full load is detected and I can have my 2GHz across all 4 cores when encoding. Solely based on the temps I get on full load 1.73GHz, I think the cooling system could handle 2GHz, but I wouldn't expect to sustain more than that for a project.

If someone can upload the power4gear software (I'm not home) I can run more tests with the Asus turbo feature. I also checked the Asus site and I don't see it.

    Its not under the G73.

    Go to Asustek.

Select Notebook as the download category.

Then select "Apps" NOT the G73.

    Then select P4GHybrid.

I agree it is in a really weird place.

If you install the extreme utility, the 920 multipliers go to 40x and your system will spontaneously ignite into a large ball of flames ;)

Oh and MEGA kudos to Gromkins for putting us on the trail. I was on that forum last night on that thread and it only had one reply to a guy asking if 10.3's were up. The reply was "is this a joke?", so I figured I'd move on. I wouldn't have thought to look there again so soon, so A+ Grom!

Do you have the ATK thing installed, too? Maybe you need both... one to enable the hotkey to work, and one for the app the hotkey calls?
