Why can't they just create a top-level section of their DB called "Mobile".
I never submitted to notebookcheck before.

this is what they are working on now. thanks to sam and i, but...
the part that most of us are forgetting is..there are quite a few desktop computers using mobile gpus and cpus. they are trying to figure out how to define what is what...any ideas are more than welcome on this.
we we're working with them to get a global ranking system for laptops...hopefully they can figure out a way to make it work.
the other alternative would be...to get BIGGS database up and going....
i only said hwbot because it's in place and the guys are listening and open to ideas and suggestions on how to make it work.
plus...one click to all your benching marking scores...
downfall...no gaming benchmarks... -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
desktop are not using mobile gpus.....but some laptops are using desktop cpus
-
some imac apple's used mobile gpus
clevo as well...
need to get don on this one because i can't find it now.
they even had one at a major over clocking competition a year or so ago... when they we're testing the 4870m as a matter of fact. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Those are all-in-ones.....an insult to real desktops haha
But yes, I guess you are right. -
If it has a keyboard and LCD built in, it's a mobile unit.
-
dont care how far fetched an idea sounds...if you have some mandrake..we are all ears!!
that's a whole lot easier said than done...
theres an xbox built into a laptop...does this make it a laptop?
it has a keyboard and lcd built in...
there was also a guy turning a laptop into a desktop...is it still a laptop? cant find his pictures, but he is around here somewhere.lol
and clevo already has a mobile desktop(mobile defined as a unit built for a car system). if they build it just like this xbox does it become mobile then? -
A guy on my team built a PC smaller than my G73. No moving parts and external power adapter. Still it's not a notebook. -

the thing is though Mandrake, their database uses hardware to make the distinguishment, and you only have the cpu and gpu to represent a system. So you have to figure out how to draw a line saying these gpus are laptops and these are desktops.Same for cpus - and as me and John pointed out, it is not that simple
-
-
-
you dont get it...your looking at this from a sane persons point of view.
you need to look at it as a "i want the best score on hardware" point view.
you have to be able to filter out the cheaters. and just saying it's a notebook won't do. to many ways to get past that as well.
although..the brands out now are well know enough, they would still have to be policed by people who know about them.Attached Files:

If I came one here with say an Asus W90. Posted a 3DMark06 score of 20K while everybody is posting 15K benchmarks a red flag would go up. When you see that the CPU voltage was changed to a setting which is impossible to change in the system you know that system has been modified. Is that a cheater or just a smart person with outside help? It should still count because the explanation for that high score lies in the CPU voltage. -
1: we would be your proof
2: your score is reflected when you submit it to orb
3: then its submitted to the bot
4: screen shot is taken and matches with data submitted to orb.
5: exactly why they don do gaming benchmarks.
6: they would have ran your cpu against a desktop version just like i did and got the same exact results. and would have known it was legit.
7: desktop over clocking is far more advance about finding how you do things than the notebook over clocking group.(because you can have 50 people testing your theory to find out if it's true or not)(right now..it's just a hand full).the group and it's and data just isn't big enough yet.
8: and last but not least...your explanation would pretty much have said it all as to why the score is legit.
the only way you get flagged is if another member thinks your cheating...
kind of why we we're trying to get all this started now..so this time next year....we can be the pioneers on how it got started and why and hopefully perfected... -
Have a small group of judges who may ask for additional info before making a benchmark legit. Nothing is official until approved. That's how NBF works.
-
hummm nbf has 20 submittals
hwbot has 1000 submittals
but it's all good. i hear what your saying.
hummm, now things are making more since...before when you showed me that screen shot..i was thinking it was of nbc and not nbf
question:
do they have an over all top scoring system? -
NBF has a nice setup. Never dealt with notebookcheck before.
-
when you said go get an account and i tried and looked and couldn't find anything. come to find out...it wasn't even the right place.
we we're talking about two different things that whole time...rotflmao
and i do have an account with nbf
diziam!

-
i have to start all over. trying to set it up now....damn page didn't save.
man, i see your point. +rep if i could
damn!@#$$#%^$%#@!@ notebookcheck had me thinking it was all bad...lmao!
ok..new plan!
do they have a banner system like the one in my sig??
any idea how the scoring system works or is it just all over the place? -
-
guess it was like one 9800m gtx submitted.
and is there a total over all score or just king of the hill sort of thing?
does this amount to anything as a total or whole?

Edit: I think I see what your saying. They use a credit system but it has nothing to do with what you scored. Just the fact that you submitted it.
BTW that Steve guy seems to be the main mod over there for benchmarks.
They are pretty open minded there. Maybe they can do something like that. -
where is that at?
-
Most of my credits were gained for submitting my benches. -
ok, cool...was wondering what that was.
diziam!!!
that's right...i had two uniwill laptops..and was complaining about the battery on one so i ditched it. damn!..wish i would have benched them babies now.
i was in the negative...submitted one benchmark and went up like a 1000 points. -
I used to be on NBF, but this forum blows it away.
Maybe for benching the other is better. -
yep..that's why i came here...way back when.
but i dont remember that benching database being there -
It wasn't when I was a member there. But I haven't been in years. lol
-
ok, so i wasn't tripping then..
last visit was june of 08 -
If you looks at their 3DMark06 database you'll see that Ken from Gentech holds the #5 spot with a score of 17142 with the W90. That's what I want to beat with the G73.

Aren't you almost there already? lol

I upgraded to the 10.3 preview drivers. It looks like my average FPS in Crysis went up a bit. 31.4 to 33.2
My GPU temp hits a maximum of 86C, but stays around 76C most of the time.
That is Crysis with all settings at "High" and the -DX9 switch set... 1920X1080 no AA.
My speakers make this horrible static noise sound at full volume when I exit crysis and start inspecting the captured FPS and sensor data. Is this because I have Creative installed? The only way to make it stop is to hit the suspend button and then wake it back up. The volume keys don't change the decibel level of the static noise at all. -
-
I just downloaded Batman. Here is a stock run.
Edit: I'm kind of surprised that the i7-920XM adds 23 FPS. -
A properly coded game.
Imagine that! -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
Well, that game is a poster child for physx, so you can't really say you are getting the full experience in a G73.....
-
However, I can't afford to buy a 920XM and get a divorce... and she would definitely want one if I spent more than half of what the unit cost on a CPU upgrade.
Since you mentioned Arkham Asylum, Kotaku mentions that you can buy it for $12.49 until Monday (the PC version) for those who haven't played it which includes me.http://kotaku.com/5481794/weekend-coupons-months-that-end-in-y
Does anybody have any thoughts on the horrible screeching sound that came out of my speakers after I stop playing Crysis? The laptop seems to be running great other than that weirdness. -

Q -
People are complaining about the Batman game with ATI cards?
-
Because it lacks all the NV physx.... Still an amazing game with or without physx...
-
My wife actually stopped to watch me play the game a bit and commented on how good the graphics were. -
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
Q -
No, I bought it for $12.50 yesterday. I saw the deal in the NBR marketplace.
-
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
, I'm still an NBR newb
, I haven't even been out of the Asus part yet.
-
Me? I haven't even been out of the G73's threads -
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
, just kidding
man, this 3Mb/s DSL at work is killing me, I don't know if this d/l will finish in the 4.5hrs I have left, good thing I'm getting paid for this
EDIT: Def not going to make it, this is my 1st GFWL d/l, does anyone know if I pause this and shut down pc, will I have any issues resuming? Thanks.
Q
Sweet, thanks for the confirm Jody. -

Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
I tell you what, I'm not happy with this GFWL d/l's. It didn't give me a choice which drive to install the game on. Is this how all of the d/ls will be? Automatic C: drive install and sol about it or did I miss something?
If anyone knows how I can install this to my choice drive, please let me know. I'll hold off on activation in case someone knows. d/led cab files in the GFWLive folder disappeared after it installed, so I don't hold much hope. Thanks.
