I got the copper from ebay, LINK1, LINK2. I also got the thermal pads from ebay but they were too thick so I bought this, LINK. It won't be in until Tuesday so the system remains apart.

I also have thermal tape and adhesive for any "loose" pieces.

Guys, what's your average in Borderlands?
I'm getting only 35~40 FPS and sometimes ~50.Everything is on,except for Anisotropic and Bloom(there's no AA in Borderlands). 1920x1080. Is my average normal?
    BTW,I'm using 800/1070.
    There's no much diference when I use Anis 16x,maybe - 4FPS

Do you turn vsync on? If no, do you see any screen tearing?

Yes,sir. That is the only temp to keep an eye on.

I may be attempting this when I get bored. Thank you for the links!

Did you look at Vicious' review thread? I thought he benchmarked it there. If not, someone else did.

Hey Mandrake, know asking a lot here.

But when you do this, can you take your time in providing step by step with a few photos?

I am interested in this modding, this would be worth opening up the case for :p

It's already done. Just waiting for thermal pads. There really isn't much to it besides making sure there is clearance and since the G73 is so thick towards the back there plenty of clearance. I could have even used bigger copper.

    Prety weird thing happening.
    Borderlands doesn't have Vsync option.
I'm using ''Force Vsync'' and ''Force Triple Buffering'' on D3Overrider for all the games, like BFBC2 and MW2.When I turn the Vsync option off on D3Overrider,I just don' get tearing in Borderlands!

You need to edit an ini file for Borderlands to turn vsync on. I would tell you which if my G73 wasn't in a thousand pieces.

I'm not as familiar with D3Overrider so I'm not sure what it's doing.

Can you create a new thread for it or post it on the first post of this thread or something?

Like did you glue it or solder? I'm in the dark how to do it. What does stacking more copper on the copper pipes do? Dissipate heat passively better?

And to me, the cooling on the Core seems ok, but it's the memory that Asus decided to ignore. Are you using the thermal pads for that?

Mandrake, you will get getter cooling if you put all the copper on the fins and heatblocks but NOT the heatpipes...

for them to work efficiently you have to have a polarized heat situation, the copper on the heatpipe makes the fin to block heat ratio less polarized. Hope this helps - this is starting to look like alot of M17s did haha

Not much if there isn't proper air flow. I will need to test.

I will consider it if I find a way to make a significant improvement.

It's similar to the way I did the M17. There is very little room to do it towards the front of the GPU so it has to stay towards to back where the pipes are. Putting it on the fins in the front I will have issues with clearance. Any other suggestions?

    Just the gpu?

I think I know what you're saying, give me a sec.

It's on a slant the back of it I can easily add the ramsinks while toward the front I can add it as long as I don't put the cover back on.

I ran the DMC4 test just like I did HERE. Temps were identical. I still need to replace thermal pads but I doubt it will help much. Hopefully it will help when benching.

all those extra heatsinks wont do jack unless there is good airflow over them

was nice in the M17, just take the bottom of and sit it on a Cryo - saw huge gains

    With or without the A/C?

If they are with the cover on and without A/C, I'll be jumping up and down.

I don't have that bench. But on vantage my core was 77 and my memory in the 90s. 3DMark06 was 74/88

So that's a very nice decrease in temperature. Maybe having the cover off makes a difference also.

I'm guessing it has to do more with lapping the heatsink, replacing paste and thermal pads.

I attached around 15 pieces of copper.
