With non-extreme procs all you have is the 7% OC the turbo button gives you.

You'll find out more when you install it and see the new bios options.

Furmark Log GPU Temperature test, and also extreme burning mode, man it destroying the gpu, i totaly agree with mandrake the gpu and the cpu needs to repasted with OCZ freeze which i have, i just wish why they make it so hard to do something that is important to do for stability during long sessions.

I can't get AMD GPU Clock Tool to work, "Failed: No Valid Devices Found" or "Can't load kernel driver" in compatibility mode for XP SP 2.

Can't get Rivatuner to work either, no "Customize" button. I think I have to enable Forceware Detection??

    Anyone know what to do?

    Thanks to Mandrake's leadership, I just got a 13260 3DMark06 score, up from 11490.

I used ATI RBE, followed the steps in the tutorial and when I loaded the BIOS, I got a message asking me if I wanted Rivatuner modified so it would work with my card. Sure, why not? Right? So then, I used Rivatuner to change my GPU clock to 800 MHz and RAM to 1150 MHz.

    Mandrake rocks!!!

Ziddy123 there is nothing wrong really, i just need a cooler or stand that will elevate the my G73, i have used machines on flat surfaces. I was playing Hawx last night for hours, everything on max and 1080P the highest my temps went for my gpu was 72 and then down to a cool 69.

Yes, but in that case has anyone tried setfsb to see if it can change the BCLK?

If the ASUS program can do it from windows it's probably just messing with the PLL.

Power4Gear also pegs all 4 cores at 2.6ish when on max performance. I don't think that's just the PLL...

A friend of mine got like the X1 version, and it P4G was only messing with the FSB/BCLK.

I have an ASUS eeepc and it does the same thing, the power levels(Powersave, performance,Super) just mess with the FSB

For some reason I can't get the SSD I put in my G73 to break 150MB/s (SATAI).

    Anyone else seeing this issue?

    Gskill Falcon (I)

It's an indilinx MLC running fw 1819

In my other machine it does (p55) 230MB/s

Here it's doing 140-160MB/s I've disabled all normal services.

It's the same speed using msahci or Intel RST 9.6

Edit: Also how do you keep P4GH from messing with the background?

10GB used out of 119GB. I swapped it between computers, it's got to be the SATA controller.

Also do we know what BIOS 206 is? I'm tempted to see if that clears up anything.

Anyone else with an SSD running a sequential read test could verify this, or show that I did something.

I'm exchanging emails with the guy who makes setfsb, and I'm trying to find the PLL for him. I don't want to break my laptop open enough to the point I void the warranty, so if someone has high-res pictures of their board, when they were doing the 920xm mod or something, that would be appreciated.

Also if you have one open and can find the PLL that would work also.

It's the PLL, all ASUS P4GH does is simply order the PLL to raise the FSB(BCLK) by editing the PLL Registers.

So if you use setfsb (I was sending abo(the setfsb author) the PLL register dumps from my G73JH) you can change the FSB to whatever you like.

Note that he hasn't released that version yet, and he requests 500 yen ($5) donations to use the software.

    Photoshop? really?

Edit: I love this feature: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1137425

The program has been available for free in the past.....

it should be as simple as adding a simple device string to the existing code so that the software knows how to interface with the pll chip

I'm getting PMs and stuff now, so do the following:

1)Go to the setfsb site and read the instructions for donating $5 CAREFULLY
2)Get the ID number for your setfsb WHILE ON YOUR G73JH
3)wait for the official release, or you can use the f and g test builds from his server in the meantime (don't email him about test builds please)

Congrats! on finding a way betaflame.

I would be very interested in some temperature comparisons and stability tests. HWiNFO32 would be a good monitor app.
Maybe a 30 minute run without the OC on a game, then a 30 minute run with the OC on same game (BFBC2 if you have it).
A 30 minute run on an easy full loader (all 8 threads) like Prime95 (no need to kill it with IntelBurn) without OC and the same with the OC.

I know the 142 BCLK Asus Easy OC puts a bit of a whoopin on the temps compared to a 133 BCLK and I'd sure hate to see a parade of returns due to people OC the BCLK so much and heat causing problems all over the system.

    Thanks. Q

remember, the system is designed to deal with a 920xm too (3.2GHz) at turbo, so heat shouldn't be a problem.

I audibly detect slightly higher noise from the fans under load, but it's not very much.

Plus I don't keep it clocked up unless I'm doing something intensive.

    welcome to the party

The 920XM does 3.2GHz with the 133BCLK. It's not only about what the CPU freq can do so much as what the higher BCLK does to the system as a whole. The 920XM also has a higher TDP. Asus designed a cooling system for a 142 BCLK, can the system handle more is the question. Mandrake OC his 920XM using the turbo multipliers, but even he didn't go above the 142 BCLK.

It's good that you hear the fan kick up.

Of course, so please do something intensive and show some temps with and without the OC BCLK to show what it does. Thanks.

lol, no I'm still in the car outside the party listening to the music ;) . Until the band plays a full set, I'll wait.

@ Mandrake: What's the word on your RMA?

Raising the bclk raises the temp much faster than raising your turbo mode multipliers.

They lost my hard drive and optical drive and called me today to say they found it. Then they said they will replace my whole system. Still waiting for confirmation on that.

Indeed, this is what I'm trying to get across to the multitude that are going to start OC their BCLK. I know the 142BCLK really raises temps and I fear going above that will cause component failures other than the CPU and including the 45W TDP 720. You're likely allowed to OC the turbo multipliers of the 920XM due to its differential of TDP, would I be correct in that line of thinking?

Unbelieveable, but good news in general I hope.

OK, my test bed 30 min game OC off and 30 min game OC on is real world. Prime95 is a little more than needed to simulate video rendering (8 thread load), but it is the lightest full load tester for simulating it. Unless you have a video rendering program, it was the best I could think of. Thanks.

So far all I can see is it is stable enough for a CPUz screenshot :)

Mandrakes suggestion of OCCT is another, but imo, a little more stressful than Prime95.

EDIT: This thread is on FIRE now :D

    Ambient temp: 24C

    Idle 152MHz: 4x 42C
    8x p95 In-place FFT: 4x 80C after 10 mins

    Idle 142MHz(ASUS Turbo): 4x 42C
    8x p95 In-place FFT: 4x 78C after 5 mins

    Idle 133MHz: 4x 42C
    8x p95 In-place FFT: 4x 70C after 10 mins

My assumption about the 2C difference between turbo and 152 is that the fans must be picking up. It's pretty hard to hear a difference.

(I'd already run the 133MHz p95 test at 24C before, I'm running it again but it's the same numbers)

Edit: Abo just updated setfsb official, use that instead of the test builds.

Well that's something, thanks, but screenshots of the HWiNFO32 window would be more complete.

I'm also a little surprised at your superhuman time shifting ability to run 25 minutes worth of testing between a 21:03 post and a 21:21 post including setup, comprehension and typing the 21:23 post ;)

    EDIT: Oh, I see, thanks.

Also I should mention that I watched many of your youtube benchmarking videos while I waited for my G73 to ship.

Edit: I just realized you got the post in the 10 secs before I remembered to add that line, good job :V

Edit 2: For you who are pushing the envelope "CPU-Tweaker" lets you change your memory timings to get more leeway on the BCLK
