Was that run on the 1280x1024 res though?

I noticed you only have 6gigs, so I assume its the BB model. Still a impressive score though, GJ :).

Test was ran with the free version of 3dmark06, all settings are locked in and unable to be altered. As far as I can tell all 3dmark06 scores at the front of the forum were ran at 1280x1024. (1600x900 LG monitors show 1280x768 in free version) (corrected from earlier where I reported 1024, although the difference should be minimal)

yes, but why does everyone cover up the resolution and the os used?
last time we checked...it allowed for a full screen picture...(im just saying)
    lol

also, cant really tell about default, because if your screen resolution is smaller than standard...then so is your default...(speculation of course)

Use the app i7 turbo in conjunction with Argus monitor to get real CPU utilization and the proper turbo multiplier readings. Hwinfo does a good job with C2D and GPUs but not i7.

in your case...if you click the edit or more button, this will allow you to see your resolution and the rest of that screen you posted.

Well heres what my 3dmark06 settings look like, I took the benchmark around 3 am last night so I don't have the webpage anymore but I do have a saved 3dr file of it that i can't open without buying the advanced. I have the 1600x900 LG monitor so I guess it is 1280 x 768. If you are skeptical and would like to see the 3dr file and you have a paid version ill be more than happy to send it to you. I used betaflames pictures on his screen at the top of the forum as a guide on what to include in mine, I never though to include the resolution since I figured everyone was just using the trial version which isn't able to be altered.

nope, that's what we wanted to see. nothing to be skeptical about.. just need resolution verification. and in that screen shot it shows. thanks!!

so to your original post...that is NOT what a real 3dmark score looks like... :D :D

just messing with you.... of course.. :)

ummmmm.....i hate to break it to you....but ummm......for you to set a record.
you need to bench at 1280x1024.....1280x768 isn't really considered recored breaking....im sorry....

now if you have an external monitor...then connect to it and rerun that test at the correct resolution....that's only if your interested in setting a record.

nice run for a non default resolution though. wtg!

This was a bad run my hdmi cable seems to be having issues but heres for the record anyway at (1280x1024) even though ill replace it with a much faster score later on. I would also like to add that since half the people who got these asus laptops have the 1600x900 res I think it would be fare to have a benchmark chart for that one as well.

there is nothing wrong with that run, it looks pretty good!

as for the resolution thing...we have been down that road before...not going to happen....sorry. most of the verification needs to follow uniform suit...and the world standard is 1280x1024....

now if you would like to be the pioneer on that resolution...then by all means..go for it....

but in the end, most who buy highend gaming laptops....usually get a hd screen with it, so buying form best buy/microcenter/frys or any other retail store....really isnt the best choice....they give you what is pre ordered...and not made to oder.

(The resolution of that run was at 1280x1024 i ran it on a external monitor it was 1000 points ahead of the other 720qm benchmark at 1280x1024). I only mentioned the earlier resolution because alot of people with this notebook are wanting the LG screen at 1600x900 rather than the 1080p screen and there has been debate on how well it performs based on earlier posts ive read.

Are you kidding me? The Best Buy one is pretty amazing!

It has the lower res 1600x900 screen but for games thats fine plus you get about 15% better frame rate then the ones at 1920x1200. And if you want you can still hook it up to a 1080p TV. (you really shouldnt be using a laptop as your primary gaming machine anyway. Thats what desktops are for)

It has 6GB or ram instead of 8 but they do indeed install the rear keyboard one leaving the easy access ones on the bottom open. (I got another exact stick of 2GB DDR3 on ebay and threw it in for a total of 8GB for 30 bucks)

1 less HDD. Has a single 500GB which is fine for most users and adding another would cost you like 60 bucks.

So for $1,100 bucks, if you dont mind the lower res screen, its a steal!

Just out of curiosity - and forgive me if this has already been addressed - but what should the 3DMARK Vantage score yield on the Asus G73JH-A1 stock out of the box?

Is there a range that should be hit when testing straight out of the box with absolutely no pre-tweaking?

I am in the process of doing my "fine tuning" - debloating, optimizing, etc. - and now trying to achieve the best possible benchmark score for my system.

    Thanks!

Yeah I had to hook mine up to an external to get a proper res score.

I HAVE noticed that with a duel fan cooler on the bottom, I do go from 94ish degrees in Furmark to about 91ish so those do indeed do just a little but.

Anywho, how does one find out the make of the LCD on the system?

    Thanks

The RAM is the easy part to overclock lol...if you have good ram it will go all the way to 1400 MHz no sweat

Note that lower density modules tend to OC better and by good I do not mean the OEM crap

you see where i said...medium to high.
    since 720 is lower..right?
    then there is
    1200p
    1600p

so pretty soon..1080 will be medium low high def and 720 obsolete. :)

Hi-Def is just a marketing BS term.....I would not get caught up in saying it. Use intelligent terms like WUXGA (1920x1200), WSXGA (1680x1050), WXGA (1440x900) and so on (unsure what they are for the 16:9 stuff though)

Depends on the application. For PC's, yes, it's kind of useless marketing, but for broadcast television and movies, it's really not and has a place.

    hi again,

well I told it earlier that it was not any modification or bios mod. i did nothing to my notebook. its all how i bought it from amazon on 24 March.

I'm running the Catalyst 10.4 without any Problems. Here in this room there are 21° when i run the bench with vantage and the notebook is still standing over my table without any notebook cooler. hope it is okay with cpu-z

    900x1250

    thanks again

I'll say, I figured he was doing a portable AC thing to stay in the low 70s with a 900 core. To hear it's with no mods or extra cooling that it can even be stable enough for a pic, much less run Vantage is mind boggling.

Welp I finally did some OCs, I can't get a stable 800 core, but my score in 3dmark06 is still pretty good.

Best I've got so far is 13,228 with stock CPU and GPU@790/1101Mhz.

    13228-790-1101.jpg

My temps also seemed to do well, I'm sitting in a 82f room right now, and yet still maxed out at 78c as my highest GPU temp. So I guess it sucks I can't OC more, but at least my temps are still good.

    @ quagmire

    my preferences were:

    Power 4 Gear @ Entertainment
    GPU: 900 / 1250

I took the screenshot directly after the 3d Mark Vantage score. And its normal that the CPU speed will go down because the minimal load is about 5% and the maximum load at 100% not even like the high performance where is 100%!

I runned furmark in 1920x1080 with msaa 8x and extreme burning, post fx and stability test, i can run it how long i want to the temperature will not go over 94° by room temperature of 21°.

The score is how mandrake said to me with gpu-z and cpu-z and now please take this score in to the top score!

by the way i runned also the vantage at high performance with gpu 900/1250 and the score was 9814!

But I think the 720qm is the problem it is limiting my gpu, with a 820qm the score would be more over 10k !

21C or 21F? Boggles my mind how you can have 900 overclock and remain in the 70s. If it is, yours is the first G73 I've heard of that can do that... The first notebook with HD5870 that can do that...
