Heh, with an i7-720QM I don't see him getting very close. If it was a Vantage contest the GPU overclock would make things interesting, though.
-
Hey Mandrake,
i wouldnt mind if you put my 3dmark score on the front page.

he wasn't in the low 70's...he was clear up to 85'c.

Still remarkable, at the very least. -
can anyone tell me how i can oc the fsb ?

it could have been 105c, but if it completes for a record, then it's good enough for me. -

@rsp, I'm not saying it isn't real, just mind boggling
Q -
Hi RSP, please can you take here your gained score of Vantage and 3DMark2006 test with OC your CPU and fantastic clock on your GPU. I think that you will beat the magical 3,2 GHZ, if you would make following steps with your NB exactly as user " betaflame" back in this thread... http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/458025-asus-g73-benchmark-thread-185.html
P.S.: To gain 10K points and more of Vantage benchmark try to use a Zalman NC2000 Coler or something better else. I bought it two years ago too on my MSI GX700 and it is very efficiency and silent cooling to downing temp your all comp in your NB -
i have a problem, i bougt the setfsb but i get only to 150 Mhz FSB, than my system freezes. I cant run 3dMark 06 oced, it will run only with 800 / 1100 otherwise if i will oc more it crashes but not at the beginning of the bench, it crashes after 30 seconds, another at the 2nd bench its strange?!?
-
i think i said the same exact thing about his allstar gpu in another thread. -
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
All good aside john, he was in the low 70's on the core which is what I was referring to (72 & 74), ziddy also, so let's just get that straight and not say he wasn't
-
nvm, to many conflicting answers about the dispio -
Hi RSP,
Hmmm this clocks are possible to gain on G73 for everyone piece. My advice is that you try to apply on it some cooling system, as for ex Zalman, CoolerMaster, Thermaltake etc. Certainly it will be better and more stability then -
the problems are not from the temps, i dont know what it could be but not the temps, my notebook is very cold infront of the most g73jh.
if i run furmark,
1920x1080p
msaa 8x
extreme burning
stability test
i get max 93° i could run it as long i want, average is 88°
the temps are perfect -

Hello all,
I am no expert when it comes to this type of knowledge, but I just wanted to report my score using 3DMark Vantage. I'm not looking to break any records here, but I was just wondering if I am in a good or above average neighborhood for scores.
I am running the Catalyst 10.4 driver. I am not using Turbo boost.
Forgive no screenshot - I am not at my PC at this time:
3DMark Score: P8308
GPU Score: 7716
CPU Score: 10790
This is of course benchmarked at the performance option of 1280.
Thanks! -
but when i look at mine using gpuz 4.2....it shows it as just voltage.
and that goes for all my cards....so if it was dispio or what not...i would think they would keep the naming scheme instead of changing it.
but as you say...in the end...it has to be connected to something....
and the shader thing...i would have to agree....them suckers getty toasty on the nvidia cards.....should be the same on the ati's as well...even though they dont show there shader sliders in gpuz...wonder how that relates as well...you get the answers...im all ears. -
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
Kalim found the latest test build GPUz that actually shows the temps and clocks now for the 5870m here.
HWiNFO32 is naming these temps and I just match them with the readings of other monitor apps:
HWiNFO32 - AMDGPUCT - GPUz - MSI Afterburner
GPU DispIO = TSS0 = GPU Temp#1 = N/A
GPU MemIO = TSS1 = GPU Temp#2 = GPU Temperature
GPU Shader = TSS2 = GPU Temp#3 = N/A
Extras:
HWiNFO32 has GPU Thermal Diode which stays real close to MemIO temps, but no longer tick for tick.
GPUz has MemIO temp shown for "GPU Temperature" just like MSI Afterburner
It would appear to me by the mans descriptions of the 3 readings that the Shadercore is the workhorse. I'll take all the info I can get
Q -
then i think ill run with it, with you...
which brings us back to your original question..(which now makes more sense)
why the temp so low....
ill test one of my 5k series cards later today and watch that temp thing to see just what it does. -
Quagmire LXIX Have Laptop, Will Travel!
His temps are impressive at 900core and it's why I thought he was using a portable AC.
Given the fact that I've had 3 5870m's with what should be considered good temps at 700x1000 (DispIO 50C light/idle, mid/high 70Cs gaming & Shader mid 50Cs light/idle High 80Cs gaming) his 72C DispIO and 79C Shader with a 900 core Vantage run seems like a golden egg 5870m.
His other component temps are the same or higher than mine so it def doesn't look like he's sitting in a freezer doing benches. I think just achieving those clocks is impressive, but being stable enough for a Vantage run and with those GPU temps, he may just want to bronze that GPU for future generations to studyor at least send it back to ATi so they can clone it for the rest of us
Hey rsp123, just to be sure, you did have HWiNFO open before starting the Vantage run, right? Thanks. If not, that would explain the low temps.
Q -
Indeed, it's relatively clear that DispIO = Display I/O which would be the display controller, MemIO = Memory I/O which would be the memory controller, and Shader would be the actual processing elements on the chip.
Although this should mean that the shader temperature is the one to be most concerned about, it still doesn't give any indication what the expected operating temperatures are for these parts of the GPU.
As far as I know, under 100 degrees is fine, but perhaps MemIO can handle higher temperatures? In any case, the GPU is supposed to resort to safety measures when it thinks it's in trouble - i.e. throttling or shutdown - but it would be interesting to know which sensors trigger this and at what temperatures. -
Any idea what kind of vantage score I can get that is 24/7 safe on a cryo lx cooler? I know each card is different, but what do you think is a safe 24/7 overclock (ie furmark with Prime 95 with gpu under 95C, not that I would run that 24/7 but stable if you know what I mean) and what would the scores be around?
-
Hey guys, I got 13572 in 3Dmark06 with 780 engine, 1300 memory clocks. For some reason, I can't overclock the engine to 800mhz with the 10.4 drivers. No CPU OC.
Sorry, don't have GPU-Z or CPU-Z installed yet.
-
I would try to do some benchmark with this machine
before proceed can you suggest me some advise, for example:
do you replace thermal compund or add a cooler? (because i saw quite low temp in first page of this thread)
during test the best resolution is 1280x1024 right?
Turbo boost on or off? ( i won't use setfsb)
thanks everybody -
@luca4s
it's pretty hard to replace the thermal compound on this laptop, as you have to take apart the everything before you get open access to the GPU and CPU.
Personally, I don't think a cooler for this laptop helps that much compared to others because the bottom of the laptop remains cool for the most part even under load. I guess if you have the money to shell out for a cooler, it couldn't hurt.
1280x1024 is the standard resolution under which 3Dmark06 is usually compared.
With twin turbo on, I got 350 higher in 3Dmark06 with no OC.
hope that helps! -

What do you think?
Vantage: GPU:7659
CPU:10622
Are these okay? (No twin turbo or OC.) -

Not really benchmarking but i have been having some serious temp issues, i don't know if i should update to the beta bios 209 just updated to 206. Maybe i OC the gpu too much but i get so much better performance when i do. Randomly freezes up, i really don't want to remove the creative drivers i do use external speakers 2.1 setup but i don't want to lose the sound from the soundcard anyway. So anyway it idles at stock 700/1000 at 66 as it currently is now, this just began happening. Here i am playing mass effect two with the gpu at 800/1100 it froze a few times also, and also the cpu running with twin turbo mode.
-
you might have to play around with the clocks if you try to overclock because for me, 800 engine always caused driver failures (10.4) and occasionally locked up in games like BFBC2. 66C at stock clock idle seems a bit high, mine idles at 58C but the ambient temperature is pretty cool though.
-
It never ided at 58C, i am running the 10.4 beta drivers.
-
Ok i figured out the freezing was probably caused by ram that seemed to have fell out no wonder why sometimes it felt bottle necked, seems to be better now, i then also re screwed the partial video card exposed as i was trying before to get to it in the past. The gpu is still slightly running at the same levels as before. Just degrees less, 64 C.
-
I found that the last 3dmark06 scores I posted weren't under completely stable conditions. Here are the next highest scores I got
-
I idle at 50C =/
-
jeez, at stock clocks?
-
see: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/486256-fun-tweaks-g73jh.html -
do you have the 10.6 drivers? I idle at 57-59C at stock clock, and 48-49C at 250/450. I used to idle at 42C at 200/300 but that was with the stock drivers, and I can't UC that low anymore with the 10.4 drivers.
-
no I'm running 10.4.
I don't know if the GPU controls the right fan, or the mobo does.
I know Dell lets the mobo do it. (in the I9300/9400/E1705/XPS) chassis -
and with vantage which settings use it?
there are 3 different settings, maybe the score will be different if you choose one of this:
# Entry - 128MB DX10 Video Card and a monitor capable of displaying 1280x1024 resolution
# Performance - 256MB DX10 Video Card and a monitor capable of displaying 1280x1024 resolution
# High - 512MB DX10 Video Card and a monitor capable of displaying 1680x1050 resolution
# Extreme - 512MB DX10 Video Card and a monitor capable of displaying 1920x1200 resolution
