Sorry to hear. One thing makes me wonder: I never get artifacts. Remember when I first tested overclocking capabilities on this machine and tried 1350mhz on memory I just got black screen
    , but no artifacts.

yeah i know that but in my logic the newer the driver the better the performance will be
the guy was using 10.10 and got better score than me and i mean a lot better
what can i tweak in the drivers? what do you mean? haven't heard of that

something is wrong either the drivers either i need a fresh install of windows, i can't remember of anything else

    i must get at least to 9500 i vantage , i don't want more :p

Drivers are focused on making hardware work with the latest games. It is not uncommon for there to be a trade off in performance of older apps to make optimizations for newer ones. ATI does not make as many tradeoffs as nvidia does fortunately, but there is still usually better performance to be seen with older drivers. For 3DMark 01/03/05/06 typically the oldest driver that will work with your card will be the best for those. For vantage you have to hunt around a little but I have found 10.6 to be best for the 4870s so far

As for tweaks, look into the 3D settings in CCC. Also look at a program called ATI Tray Tools that gives you ALOT more control (but requires a little more advanced knowledge to use well)

i got your point but do you think people make those tweaks to get better score i think 90% percent of them didn' make any change in 3D Driver and still they have good score

i am going to try with the original vbios
this requires a lot of testing :)

Anyone serious about benching is making those tweaks, and they DO affect the score

And yes.....benching is a full time job if you are serious about it haha - ask John ;) We have had many a late night IMing back and forth while benching

the highest stable core value I can obtain for a 3dmark06 benchmark is 823. this isn't stable for sc2 even though it's fine under furmark for an hour

Different programs will tolerate a overclock better than others. For example, 3DMark06 often is not stable as high as 3DMark Vantage will be. I usually can overclock both my CPU and GPUs further with all other things constant for Vantage than I can for 06.

If you want to play it safe and have stability for all programs....just run stock. The performance gain from overclocking is minimal at best

Stock and progressive OC'd Vantage runs with temps on the JH. My mem clock is the weak link. 10.10 WHQL.

quagmire...you seem to be missing gpuz in that video.
so...what bios version were you using?

yep, the jw is slower, but they do have 3.0 usb.
when i talked to asus...i told them..they should make a 3.0 replacement chip for us to install on the left side of the laptop. in place of the 2.0 chip...they havent gotten back to me on that yet....lol

my bad, but meh, purely intentional since the clock tool shows clocks and I wasn't challenging the top spots; figured enough of those images are out.

but, I understand about the vBIOS, so...here :)

Just ran wPrime 2.04. The prog wouldn't pick up my system specs, but when I ran the test it finished the 1040M in like 550 seconds or so. 50% CPU usage @ 170.5 FSB. Never went over 71 C. I'll try to get it to pickup my hardware info for a proper score.

    Edit:

Ran wPrime again. No luck on it seeing my hardware as of yet tho grrr. I set it to 8 threads this time. it was only at 4 last time by default. I ran the 1040M again, maxed at 78 C on the cores and finished up at 416.117 sec. I'm not sure if this is good or not due to my lack of knowledge/experience with wPrime. Hopefully it's fine though. One thing i did notice though was that the cpu multipliers at 100% load were only 13x. what gives with that?

Also ran the 32M for fun, got 13.701 sec there.

    Edit again

Figured I'd post again before bed. Max seems to be 196 on the setfsb slider. Really high huh? Runs the proc bus speed at 171.00 and the ram at 855.00. The 32M gets me 12.913 sec like this. Temps about the same

What's your P and GPU score mite_jan? My next step that night was 885x1140 and it crashed, but since the 875x1128 broke 9000 GPU score, I called it quits because my mem wasn't going to allow me to break P9554 to get in the top 5 and there wasn't anything else to go for.
I just tried 880x1140 and 879x1135 and Vantage crashed on each, so the only thing left would be to up the CPU (BLCK) for a 875x1128 GPU assist, but I'm just not into it.
The point of the vid was to rate JH 5870m performance and temps to an overclock on the same unit. Brings something unique to the table I think.

i can't remember exactly the numbers and i am lazy at the moment to run vantage but if you insist i will.I think it was like this
    840/1100 without CPU OC = around 9150
    840/1100 with CPU OC (155mhz FSB)= around 9350

you can get to 9500 with the CPU overclock probably but some games won't even use your CPU maximum so it's not worth it (i havent tried some game benchmarking)

but don't just get happy with the numbers.... try some games with those clocks and report

Ok. Have runned now new test. First one was just to compare how more improvement it will have with 100mhz extra on memory compared to one guy in this thread who runned his machine on 850/1200. Now I tried 880/1300 and it finished test without hickup but d&%n vantage would not show score online. Shall try to get new code and test again.
