    LOL
Yes i was going to post that too then thought maybe not, But yes i do this with scotch packing tape(so no glue is left) to channel the wasted air to the important intake areas IE this was done for my G72 OCing

I don't like the concept of "channeled air". I would prefer a straight shot. The less travel the better, IMO.

Yes i think so it increased the CFM a bit though i wished they put 4 fans instead of 2 with 2 blanked off?

Maybe this is because they didn't want to overload the USB Port is my guess?

But yes it does the trick :D

    I do agree,
It may be on the weak side for your purpose
This cooler is good for normal usage not extreme over clocking or record breaking attempts like your doing :D

Hi owners. I´m thinking about buy this laptop, but I´m worried about performance of mobility 5870. In Crysis performance is really bad. 1920x1080 with no AA/AF all verry high with 18fps average? The desktop 5770 outperform mobility 5870 a lot:-( Some serously 3D mark 06, Vantage, Heaven(DX11) benchmarks with resolution/detail options will be helpfull. Try to run it with stock and OCed speeds. I want laptop especialy for games: Arma 2, Mass effect1/2, new AvP, Stalker CoP/clear sky and for Crysis/warhead. Can somebody run some of these games in Full HD on high/max settings without AA/AF please?

Reading comprehension > you. Time to do some heavy lifting and read through the information that is already available.

I mean, the vantage and 3dmark numbers you are wanting are in this very thread that you are posting in. Wth?

As far as ram goes, which would be better?
    Cas 5, 1066mhz
    or
    Cas 7, 1333mhz?

Also would 1600mhz ram work in the g73jh
( i ask coz cas 7,1600mhz is priced almost the same as cas7,1333)

U right evensen, but results without any word of ressolution and details. Score about 9100 in Vantage but in ressolution? details? Noone posted score in DX11 benchmark Heaven. Its wierd because this is 1st DX11 laptop GPU.

All vantage and 3dmark scores are always run at the same default baseline.

    1280x1024.

Dirt 2 is DX11. It runs at 42fps at 1920x1080 on high at 4x AA. It runs at 35 fps on Ultra with no AA.

Vicious posted his crysis numbers in his review he just posted in the owners lounge.

Mandrake, what do you think the 5870 will do when things are sorted out? It should for sure beat the 285M. Here is what I did after installing my 285M yesterday with stock Sager drivers with a slight OC.

Can someone tell if the current driver fully support and optimise performance for the mobility 5870 ? all driver that work with laptop are for 4870 and lower right now... !?

The argument is latency versus bus speed and the answer will always be it depends on what you are testing. For everyday application and gaming don't expect to see a difference between CAS5 1066 and CAS7 1333.

Regarding your second question, since the memory controller is built into the i7 processor the processor has to be compatible with the ram and not the system. I haven't tested 1600 memory but according to Intel it is not compatible.

That depends, are you talking OC or stock?

I tried the ATI version of Cat 9.12 and it didn't recognize the card.

I´m sad that ati screw this GPU. Mobility 5870 was matched to destkop 5770 and everyone worried of this, but results are worst that everyone expect. Desktop 5770 performance is around 60% of desktop 5870. Mobility version of 5870 scores 15-20% lower than desktop 5770 so at the end the mobility 5870 has around 40% of desktop 5870 GPU. I must ask why? The prewious models 4850 and 4870 was closely to theyr desktop sisters. Why not 5850 and 5870? This is crazy. Mobility 5850 is around 15% slower than older mobility 4850!

I personally hate the desktop comparisons. Too many factors play in to make any argument valid.

Because there is no competition from nvidia at this point. And the desktop part uses like 4 times the power of the mobility.

It let ATi get a new, high-end part out quicker.

Sleey0 we expected more than 40% of desktop GPU power and more than 20% performance increase than older 4870. Mobility 5870 should be called Mobility 5750.

What do you expect when the mobility has HALF of the sp's of the desktop 5870?

I know I was a little bummed by that, and also though they should have used 256bit bus w/GDDR5.

Truth is, any game I have thrown at it runs like butter. So in the end, the performance is great ;)

    This is getting fun again.

BTW, it was power limiting my OC'ing (sound familiar). The difference is I'm able to set my own power limits in the BIOS of the G73.

I think a brand new model never performe very great since driver are not mature for those card. Maybe you should try other driver and see what append on 3dmark06 ? i think there are special driver only for 5870 because of those mid-range performance

Are you serious? Where have you been for the past 2 months we have been talking about this. It is exactly what was expected. If it's not good enough for you, what are you doing here?

Nothing "happened" with his 3dmark score. How is mid 14's on a single mobile card "mid-range" performance on a laptop gpu!?

    Am I missing something here?

I took it off. No problem!

Exactly. Shouldn't that tell us that 3dmark 06 has gotten a little long in the tooth and isn't reliable or relevant anymore? It's fun to run, but you can't measure a system's worth off of it anymore.

Vantage is ok. Games are the real test anymore. JMO.
