Hybrid drive? It came this way 'standard', or did you order the hybrid drive?

Are you sure you got a hybrid drive, and could you look in the device mgr, and give us a model number?

    Thanks!

Edit: I have been told it will work with the existing hardware and does not need an extra antenna etc..

The drivers are on my JW disc but no WiMax card :).

Thanks dude.. It sounds like upgrading some Intel's software over 6300 wireless card for getting (WiMax) activated hands down! is not.. I know its a dumb question, but when it comes to 4G technology.. it virtually deserves to be on this beast very soon lol.

What i found out is the card is a 6250 meaning it only needs 2 wires and the 6300 needs 3 wires ... So i guess when the 6400 comes out it will need 4 lol...

A big disappointment? How do you figure?

The 460M is the same gen card as the 5870... of course it is going to deliver similar performance. If you want something better, you need to either pay a lot more (480M SLI) with a different laptop, or wait for the next gen mobile cards.

The JW is just a little refresh of sorts, not an entirely new notebook.

The amazon description says it has 8GB DDR3 1066MHz memory... I thought the standard on the JW was 1333MHz

Just ordered the G73JW from POWER NOTEBOOK.COM (Shipping to the UK). Spoke with Donald *10 out of 10* for customer service he also saved me money on a unnecessary processor upgrade. I am Going for the OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SATA II Solid-State Drive upgrade instead

My wait for this great notebook is nearly over (YEAH)

Guys can this Run a 30" external screen on its own at 2560x1600 with a HDMI Male - DVI Female plugged into the HDMI slot? My 30" only accepts DVI-D.

Although the newer 30"s have HDMI i think, would that work?

Few on here said HDMI1.3 will do 2560x1600, but some said no.

And what speeds can i expect with USB3 on small external HDD?

    Please advise. ty

    Hi all,

After reading this entire thread, I have a few questions re the G73JW...

    1. Should I get a 128GB Crucial C300 SSD? I'm not a heavy gamer but I like a fast PC. Who doesn't, right?

    2. Anyone have any problems with their SDD? Glitches, error messages etc.

    3. Is 128GB enough to hold Win 7 Pro, Home/Student Office, Photoshop CS4, Lightroom, and Sony Vegas? I have no experience with Win 7 so I don't know how much space it'll take up. Or, should I just get the 500GB SATA as drive 1 (see question 1)?

    4. Do I get a prize for reading this whole thread? :D

I bought Asus G73-JH from BB 4 months ago, and unfortunately i did return it to the store because of the keyboards issues and 1600 resolution. missing keystrokes happened every time i typed in keyboard. it has given an intermittent response. The only solution was to disable the touchpad in the bios. so i did RMA for JH version. since that time, i dont know if Asus fixed this glitch or not.

However, I like the new design for G73-JW.

Can somebody confirms me if Asus fixed the keyboard lag (missing keystrokes.)

    many thanks

Question for GenTech, Xotic, PowerNotebooks.com and other vendors:

Is the 3D (120Hz) version of the G73JW still scheduled for November?
I haven't seen any pre-order page, so I wanted to confirm if it is still on schedule.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the quick response Ken!

Maybe it is not yet disclosed, but do you have any info you could share about:

    - differences with the non-3D G73JW: based on what I have gathered it will only consist of 3D-120Hz display, embedded nVidia 3D Vision controller IR emitter, nVidia 3D Vision active shutter glasses

-price: perhaps around 2,000$+ (nVidia GeForce 3D Vision Kit is around 200$ and extra cost for 120Hz may also be around 200$)

Yes you are right about the price and the only differences are the 120Hz screen and embedded 3D vision kit.

    $2,000+?!?!

Geez, I knew 3D wasn't cheap, but that's not economical at all...I could pick up a GTX 460m Qosmio and the Asus 23" 3D pack and that would only come out to $1,700, with a way better screen to boot...

    infatuated,

I have a G73JW, and I ran into this super-annoying issue as well. I found a solution, though: Uninstall the Synaptics touchpad driver. It screws with the keyboard somehow, causing this issue.

After uninstalling the Synaptics touchpad driver, the keyboard works like a dream.

The only problem now is that the touchpad reverts to the default Microsoft touchpad driver, which always has tap-to-click turned on. I downloaded the program TouchFreeze, and that solved my problem. NOTE, however, that you have to turn off TouchFreeze while playing games, or you'll lose mouseclicks.

So I've been playing FF14 on my G73JW, and I've been pretty disappointed. I've tweaked all the graphics settings I can think of, and I still get awful framerates (I'd estimate somewhere between 15 and 30 at the best of times, outdoors).

Has anyone else run into this?

Even after overclocking the GPU with Afterburner, I still only get ~1600 in the official FF14 Benchmark app (on High mode).
