    DEAR G73JW OWNERS

Does anyone know the average FPS improvement when the GPU is overclocked in games like CRYSIS, METRO 2033, FF14, or any other graphically demanding games

If anyone could posts some before then after videos or 3dmark scores it would be great.

I Really hope the graphics when overclocked are near the G73JH

    Thanks

I'd love to... Is everyone playing FF14 just dealing with the fact that it runs at like 15fps?

Also, how is everyone running 260.63? I can't find a version that will install.

I found some working 260.63 beta drivers and installed them. After doing that (and while running Afterburner with the numbers above), my FF14 scores are as follows:

    High: ~1900
    Low: 3305

Greenprell - pretty much the same clocks I use, except I boost the Memory clock to 1450 or so..

Tried the specs that Ken from Gentech could OC to and started having some issues ("artifacts" as Quadzilla and Nocturnalis have now informed me :) )

Stick with the entry level processor. Most games are GPU bound, and any i7 is going to be enough for 90% of your games, for the next year or two. An 840 isn't a bad upgrade for a few hundy, but you'll find more of a performance boost feel by getting a nice SSD instead. Don't get a 920/940. Waste of money for the extra processing power, unless you know you need it for number crunching.

Probably should be a little higher. On an M15x using an 820QM/5850M @850/1075, FFXIV scores are High = 2,459; Low = 4,093. Your overclocked G73JW scores should be pretty close. The little 5850 is a decent GPU, but I would certainly not have expected it to deliver a 30% performance advantage over the new GTX460M's. Something must be awry with the setup.

Hey guys, I'm getting my g53-3d soon and I'm wondering about bluetooth, since it's similar laptops, I thought I'd ask here.

How many connections can they handle at one time? I have a bluetooth headset and thinking about a bluetooth mouse if it can handle multiple connections.

I also wanted to give a HUGE thanks to the wonderful folks on these boards. With your advice I was able to avoid an RMA due to that dang speaker static bug. Hadn't realized that the JW's were susceptible to them until I got mine... Fixed it by installing the latest Realtek drivers and XFiMB 1.1. =)

FYI, NotebookCheck posted last weekend a review of the G73JW.
Interesting review as they have compared the GTX460m against GTX480m, 5870 and 5850.

    Review: Asus G73JW Notebook (GTX 460M) - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

    Conclusion
All things considered, we compiled the following rankings:

    1920 x 1080 | (very) high graphics settings:

    1st Place: GeForce GTX 480M (+21%)

    2nd Place: Radeon HD 5870 (+4%)

    3rd Place: GeForce GTX 460M

    4th Place: Radeon HD 5850 GDDR5 (-1%)

    5th Place: GeForce GTX 285M (-6%)

i tried the 820/1640/1420 but after an hour or so of playing games, the screen will go blank for 5 seconds and my gpu clock speed will reset to default clock speed. it doesnt happen in 782/1564/1450 though.

the Gtx 480 is not exactly the best, when I was building a desktop, the GTX 460 actually ran better, the 480 is a hot devil. But I ended up with a GTX 465 due to costs...

Nvidia GTX 460 Do Better Than GTX 480 And GTX 470 | gizbuy.com

And alot of people seem to agree if you look around the net. 480 in a laptop would have given asus a bigger challenge in heating...

Anybody experienced a bluish tinge where the white background or white images don't really appear white. I have tried using the NVidia display to tweak the colours, brightness hue, vibrance etc but the white just does not seem white. Others colours are ok. Please advise short of buying a Spyder Colorimeter to tweak.

Have I bought a lemon........?

It's the same thing with my laptop. I thought all G73 laptops are like that. Mention this at the owner's thread here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-reviews-owners-lounges/518687-asus-g73jw-owners-lounge-40.html

Maybe enough people can let us know what's going on.

Edit: They actually say that the default colors are poor and there's a colorimetric shift towards blues here: http://www.digitalversus.com/asus-g73jh-p479_8320_150.html

I tried their color profile and it didn't seem to work or do any difference.

I mentioned this in a different thread but in case others miss it I will repeat it here. I found that the Splendid utility would often reset the profile to the original profile regardless of what you set as the default. So to make sure your profile changes persist, uninstall Splendid. I found that it really makes a lot of difference but the whites do not improve. In fact they appear duller but I think this is a limitation of the panel as opposed to a color problem. I think that the shift towards blue makes the white appear cooler and more accurate but it's apparent that the colors are incorrect. For me, the whites are comparable to a sheet of of paper. It's white but not stunningly white.

This is perfect. Thank You very much! + rep... this is irritating... seems ATI's drivers are forcing the 5870M to run in PCI Express 1.1 mode... this should help in some comparisons... really thanks.

I'm trying to decide if I should purchase an Asus G73JW-A1 laptop to replace my out-dated PC. I would rather have a laptop than rebuild my PC(again). Although it cost me more money to go with the laptop, I like the fact that I can take it with me anywhere I go. Anyway, back to topic, is this a reputable dealership? Has anyone purchased a laptop from them before? They have good prices, free shipping, they'll repaste, they also give you a 6x Blu-Ray Read/8x Super Multi Combo Drive(instead of the 4x). All for $1835.00. Thanks for the input!

Your questions would probably be better served within one of these threads..... :

    "Asus G73JW Owners' Lounge"

    "Asus G73JW discussion thread"

..... rather than creating a thread in the interest of a specific reseller. Most all the Asus resellers here are very reputable, and equally competitive in their services and pricing.

I did have my sights set on the G73JH, but I've read so much information on it about how many problems it has, it's kind of steered me towards the G73JW. I've also read that the 460M will perform just as well as the 5870M. I've never owned an ATI card so I was really wanted to try one out! But it seems like it's a never ending list of problems =( .. I'm not THAT great with solving computer problems, so I think the G73JW will do just fine. I also only play a few games. World of Warcraft on occasion(till cataclysm :)) and Battlefield Bad Company 2. I'm running an nVIDIA 9800GTX+ in my PC and it runs BFBC2 like poop and WOW on HIGH is fair. =)

    @ Michael087

I moved you post and responses into an existing thread

Enjoy your new laptop purchase, and I welcome you to the forum

The Asus section here is very active and if you take time to read there is quite detailed information here on the G73 series

PowerNotebooks ,GentechPC and XoticPC are frequent forum contributers here, and any of them would be a fine choice

is the stock thermal fine? because my idle temperature in my g73jh is 70c-73c. I'm thinking if I put the IC diamond would it help lower the temperature.
