Yes scampupy, I would have to agree with Justin and Quad here. Those idle temps are a bit high, and a re-paste with ICD7 should be helpful. Since this thread is devoted to the G73JW (which runs significantly cooler), I do not think Ken initially realized in his reply, that you had the G73JH model.

What are the ambient room temps when using your G73JH, and are you sure the cooling vents are clear and free of dust & debris? Could it be time for a cleaning of fans and vents..... a little canned air perhaps?

    :)

I thought you were talking about G73JW, yeah if you have G73JH then you better repaste with IC Diamond.

This is exactly what I get as well. I did have a repaste done which sort of confirms Ken's thoughts on the JW's need (or lack thereof) for repasting.

Sorry, from one former Marine to another, I can't let that go without mentioning PowerNotebooks.com.

Don't know who is 1st, 2nd or 3rd, but I do believe PowerNotebooks.com, Xoticpc and GenTech are the top 3.

Hi could someone give me the cinebench R11.5 OpenGL score for the 460m on their g73jw with twin turbo on and off? I need the cinebench R11.5 OpenGL and not the one for R10. I need this to compare with the radeon card.

    Thanks

Some news about the 3D / 120Hz display version of the G73JW?
Pre-order should be available very soon.

I have seen that the 3D version of the G53JW is already available though: the G53JW-3DE

Did you update your GPU to the latest driver? I pre-ordered this game, but I haven't made it to gAMEsTOP yet to pick it up. Anyhow, check out the 'Known Issues' or 'FAQ' sections of the game booklet and website. Normally, you will find GPU specific info as related to game fixes & optimization. Also, I would review and post in their forums. If updating the driver does not resolve the issue, this MAY be a situation where the next driver release will resolve the problem.

Good Luck with this, and keep us posted! Hopefully, someone will post an answer and known solution soon! (And I might add, whomever does this, will be a HERO!) :D

    :)

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere, but I saw on the Asus official page on facebook that the Asus G73JW-XT1 is on sale at tigerdirect for $1499.99. From what I can tell the only difference between this and the Asus G7JW-A1 from other vendors is that it's only got 1x 500gb hd. Could be a decent deal for some ppl.

    ASUS G73JW-XT1 Laptop Computer - Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz, 8GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, Blu-ray Player/DVDRW, 17.3 Full HD, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Black at TigerDirect.com

Oops, turns out there's already another thread on it just below, my bad =/

the XT1 also has no backpack or gaming mouse.

The warranty isnt as good either.

Unless youre really strapped for cash, the A1 is probably the better option.

You are not alone, looks like the game still buggy and it only happen in single player right?

The first link has a workaround by reset nVidia 3D settings and I am sure the latest patch in the future will resolve the problem.

Is there anyway the touchpad can be made multitouch? (the ability to pinch, swipe, rotate or scroll through images on the display screen with a simple brush of your fingers).

    hi,
I am just about to order the g73jw-a1 - it sounds like a great machine. I wanted to ask: are the fans running all the time or are there also periods when they are totally off. with my previous laptop I could write and surf without any fan noise... and I kinda like that...
    thanks!

    about the g73jw-xt1:
there is a g73jw-xa1 on amazon which uses ram with 1066Mhz instead of 1333Mhz... the tigerdirect homepage states 1333 though...

could the xt1 be 300 $ cheaper than the a1 only because of missing accessories, 1 year less warranty and one hdd less?
I guess there might be something fishy ;-)

What the heck-I just got my G73jw in, and the box has a big mercury warning on it. It's supposed to be LED backlit.... Between that and the thermal paste issues I'm seeing 90 threads about I'm thinking I should just send it back.

What thermal paste issue? that's a different laptop you're talking about, the G73jh...and I always heard Asus sticks the mercury warning on all their laptops whether they're florescent LCDs which contain mercury or LED backlit that don't. It's cheaper for them.

Hey guys, I'm finally going to order my own G73jw, but I have some questions before.. Hope you'll answer me :) First, I'd like to put in IC diamond thermal paste. Is it worth?.. I'd like to OC 460M in the future, so lowest temps could be advantage..I need advice. Second, is better wirless card really necessary, or stock is enough?.. In case, what is the difference, between them.. Thanks for the answers :)

    IMO:

The re-paste question is a hard one as I chose to have it done and I get the same temps as those who did not. It sounds like the heat concern is not as critical as the was on the JH. Still, if asked if I would do it again knowing what I know now, my answer would be "yes". High temps can kill a system almost as quickly as throwing the system up in the air and onto a street. . Considering that you are also interested in over-clocking I'd say go for it.

Also on the wireless card. I did get the upgrade (6200) and it works GREAT! I can't speak to the systems that did not get this but I have seen threads that indicated that this was a worthy upgrade.

OCZ Vertex 2 120GB SATA II Solid-State Drive (Essential must buy)
I have Crazy fast boot times also programs load so fast.

The re-paste question. I got it done on mine and I have the same opinion as the last guy I do not see much difference in my temps but if you are going to spend so much money on a notebook its a nice reassurance that you have the best pasting job.

Finally i would advise you to get the extra year warranty. I don't need to tell you why you should spend the extra $89.00 for this.

PS Recovery disks if you are lazy like me.

    hope this helps.

    Kool
