I haven't yet... I'll discuss it with who ever I need to make sure it's free. I'm not paying for fixing a faulty or poorly manufactured product that wigs out on me after a mere 3 months

If the shop isn't an authorized asus service location, then they will charge you for the repaste, since Asus will not reimburse them.
-
-
OK, so they're just trying to milk you for money. Nice.

Well my notebook is on it's way to California, yeah was lazy getting it shipped. I ordered IC7 and thermal pads yesturday. So I'll have that ready when the notebook comes back.
I just told the techs that Bios 209 fubared everything -
well guess what, after almost 2 weeks of owning m g73 again, the gpu idle temp increased by 2 degree celcius from 59~61 to 63 and my room remain roughly the same. Should I worry? lol

can downclocking the GPU damage it in any way? I kinda worry because of the screen flicker when downlclocking with AMD GPU Tool
-
-
Euh, anyone else experiencing slightly higher temps with the 10.7 CCC than those of the 10.6 ?
-
My temps reach 104c with furmark and idle around 64c. I don't overclock i just lower my voltages from 1.15 to 1.05. I use 10.7a drivers. I think my temps get high due to the thermal paste but considering this things max temp is 110c i think i am not really worried.
-
Just wanted to share: my temperatures are absolutely astounding right now. At stock thermal paste and clocked at 200/405 I am getting an amazing 47-48C browsing this forum and watching YouTube. Never gotten this good of a temp. I think its because I automatically reverted to the low clocks without doing so after a few hours of gaming. Amazing! Loving the G73 now...
Awww it's climbing up to 50C -

I posted in the Owner's Lounge, but I think I'm going to post here to.
I've never really worried about my temps, but I decided to run furmark just now and I almost immediately hit 100 C, within about 1 min. Is this normal? Browsing the internet I'm usually 64-67 C. No idea what my room temps are, but they aren't super hot. Not cold, either, but... -

Um, I just ran the stability test for 1 minute, and I hit 101 degrees.
1080p fullscreen, no other settings on. -

EDIT: Nevermind, retesting...

Uhm...
Okay, running with only these settings: Furmark1.png picture by powermapler - Photobucket
I get these temps: temps2.png picture by powermapler - Photobucket
This is after only 2 minutes...Also, twice Furmark spiked to 127 C for about half a second, but apparently that's not showing up in HWInfo. What do you think..? -
mmm 101.5C ... those temps look like what I used to get, which I thought was high. So you probably have a sad paste job like I did.
-
I'm thinking about doing a repaste myself, I get 98ºc - 101ºc just playing WoW.
-
how do you change clock rate?
mine runs at 700/1000 (i think..) is that rite?
and is it good to leave it at that? thats how it came out of the box -

EDIT: If it does become a problem, should I RMA or replace the paste myself? Is it difficult to do? I've never done anything like this before, and it's reassembling it that I'd have a problem with. -
Personally, i'd contact the nearest ASP and ask them to do the repaste. The G73 is a real pain to disassemble (see Chastity's thread on her repaste experience).
-
.
You can leave it at those clocks if it doesnt bother you. If you think the gpu is running a bit hot you can always downclock, or if you wanne play an intensive game you can always overclock, however read above ^^. -
If you feel upto doing the pasting yourself, you need:
-this vid: YouTube - Asus G73Jh Disassembly Take Apart G73 Replace Video Card G73 service manual
-some cloth to put on your screen when you flip over your motherboard;
-some alcohol to remove your previous paste (if there was any lol);
-some cotton sticks (those to clean out your ears, don't know how they are called in english lol)
-a plastic bag to spread out the thermal paste on your GPU;
-a credit card to flatten the spreaded paste;
-the thermal paste ofcourse. (i only needed like about 0.5 gram, even less)
here's a vid on how to apply: YouTube - How Thermal Compound Spreads (MX-2 Edition)
-A DECENT SCREWDRIVER ( which I didnt have, I used one from my pocketknife)
-Huge amount of guts if you wanne open up your sweetypie...
PS: I am not responsible if you fck up your laptop -
-
Well those are what I use.
However, I had some problems getting them back up to 700/1000 if I wanted to game. If you try it, and ur screen turns grey-lined (GSOD), next time just do it int steps; go from 100/200 to 400/600 to 600/800 and finally 700/1000. thats what worked for me...
You get 58C when browsing the internet? Thats quite good for a straight-from-asus-G73. But 100/200 will surely get you down to mid.40's.
PS: My ambient is21C, runnin bios 211 (which still hasent fixed my missing keystrokes btw), cat 10.8, and ive got a notebook cooler under my g73. Im gettin 50C on my MemIO, just by browsing here =). -
I've just completed a re-pasting of my GPU & CPU with IC Diamond 7. I'm getting good temps for my GPU. Previously I was idling at around 66~68c before the re-paste and know I'm getting 55~58c. The best result is when running games like SC2 where I previously got 90~100c on ultra settings and now I'm getting max 72~76c on the same settings
The ambient temperature where I am is high even at night and it hovers around 30~40c depending on the weather. -
Nice results, especially with those ambients -
For those with high idle and load temps let me refer you to this gem of a post

I am currently considering RMA.
My temperatures are not that high, when compared to what I've seen other people are getting. Stock drivers worked absolutely fine but then yestrday I decided to upgrade to the latest ones to see if the system will be stable.
The temps are as follows:
Idle - around 50 - 60
Load - 80 - 90 (got max temp of 90 yesterday while playing GTA IV: L&D)
No BSODs, GSODs etc so far. Not sure how demanding the game is, so today I'll probably try the latest Stalker to see what happens.
However, as soon as I run Furmark I will get a BSOD, GSOD or RSOD within 2 minutes.
Clock speeds are set to 499 / 1000. Not sure why, since I didn't change them. I know defaults are somewhere around 700 / 1000. Is there any foolproof setting that could be applied here?
Apart from this my screen bothers me - the picture quality is rather disappointing and there's bleed near the bottom edge. I hear Asus are using a new screen model for repairs so there is hope I could get a better one with RMA.
I've contacted an Asus rep in the UK and have been told it takes approximately 10 days to repair a unit, provided no parts need to be ordered. Not sure what to do.... -
my temp is 358 degrees celcius

I just replaced the paste on the gpu only. I was hitting 110C and it would shut off while gaming. Now after some tests and gaming sessions with new paste it maxes at 74C.
I should note that I did have the overheating issue on the GPU, but never once had a GSOD.
Happy Camper here! -
Now that's a nice repaste
What paste did you use?

That is indeed a good repaste. Well, any repaste is a good repaste when it's about our beloved G73JH.
More and more people are getting these high temperatures just like a few of us already predicted. -
This is what I used. After a couple more hours of gaming it still maxes between 74C and 76C. Freeking awesome, I still can't believe it made such a difference.

Over the weekend, my G73JH (from BB) started shutting itself off while playing Eve Online. I've played various flight sims and Eve since getting this thing back in April without any problem. It only seemed to happen in one mission, so I didn't really get too worked up. Then I bought and installed Civ5 today...can't play it for more than three or four minutes without a complete power off.
For whatever reason, I wondered if it was getting hot, so I installed and ran HWINFO32. At idle, my GPU Thermal Diode reads mid 80C.
Is the repaste a PITA, or is it really dicey? I watched the disassembly video and was a little concerned when the guy ripped the keyboard off and said "That'll have to be straightened out or touched up later." I'm not averse to tearing stuff down, but if my five month old system isn't going to go back together looking like new...
Very unhappy. I swear I'm never buying another high performance laptop again.
EDIT: Will repasting the GPU void the warranty? -
Mine only sits at 81 to 83C while running furmark for over 10 minutes.
-
Value: 85
Min: 83
Max: 85
I've upped the bios to 211, downgraded the ATI drivers to the box stock jobs from the Asus site. -
did you try the vBIOS provided by Chastity?
-
-
Thanks for that. The odd thing is that I'm not getting a GSOD, just a complete system poweroff. The problem didn't start until this past weekend, though, so I'm thinking it's a hardware issue, not a firmware issue.
EDIT: I just noticed in HWINFO32 that the Current Clocks Mhz for the GPU is 1400 and Memory is 4000. Is that right? I have never done anything with overclocking so I have no idea, but reading in that vBIOS thread, people are talking 400/1000. -
Go to my GSOD Resource link below, and download the AMD GPU Tool. This will show you your current clocks, and you can also use the app to monitor temps as well.
-
i am not getting anything like GSOD but my idle temp is always higher than 84 degree celsius. should i consider RMA?
