Window machines come with key embedded in BIOS. A windows 8 installation will automatically read out a key in BIOS. You can override this key by using a customized USB boot disk, but there is no reason to unless you are upgrading to pro for oddball reasons.

So, just pop in windows disk and you will be good to go.

Like I said, all drivers and other crap come on a ROG DVD. If you break the DVD, then all the crap are on Asus website.

    Grats.

The asus is a good choice for someone who is not going to make any changes to the system.

Nope but in your post in regards to the additional $900 for added FPS i was just stating that its not $900 for a 770m vs the 780m that it also covers the cost of the 2 SSD's. I would love for them to give an option to get the 780m without the dual SSD's :( talk about sticking it to you. Most people dont even know what raid is and there being forced to get it in order to get the best GPU option *SMH*

Guys, I'm 111% positive they will offer: $2,000/2,500/3,000 versions of the JH, just give them a couple weeks (no JH SKU listed with 3D screen yet.) SKUs are missing right now. (Don't buy the JH-DB71 right now.)

(I saw someone find a SKU for $2,000 already, (don't remember where tho.)

Yeah, I hate this business practice. It's common that companies divide a product into tiered models. For many the low end model would be fine, if they could just also configure it with max RAM, or that 'best' GPU, etc. But that's only available for the high end model, which in turn includes other 'upgrades' that you don't need or want, but still have to pay for.

Any notebook 1600Mhz ram work in this G750 or does it need that DD3 low volt ram 1.35v?

ROG forums have a sticky that explicitly says you MUST use 1.35V ram because of Haswell, so...

I think a lot of the people posting here (myself included) are waiting for news on the G750-JH before making a final decision and buying.

Anyone have problems with the audio out on the G750? I have the JX version. Asus says the laptop has an "exclusive" headphone amp. However, it is full of hiss and crackles on my laptop. Also, the matte treatment on the screen seems a little overkill creating a "sparkle" look, especially in white areas.

I went with the cheapest one with 765m. I was looking for 750m originally, so 765m works.

I replaced its optical drive with a hdd caddy + WD black 1tb. And replaced stock HDDs with 1 intel 128gb ssd and WD black 1tb.

765m is totally overkill for Crusader Kings 2, Football manager 13, Age of conan, and X3 Albion Prelude and the likes. GPU fan barely spins when playing those except for Age of Conan.

I'm thinking of adding the optical caddy too, is it Sata II or 3 any speed loss? And how does it look can you add the DVD bezzel to it ? And if its not too much to add got a link for the caddy?

Removing the optical drive is easy. Just open the bottom lid and unscrew one. It's easy to tell which one it is because it's right where the optical drive is. It is the same as G75, so google for ROG G75 hdd caddy and you should have plenty of tutorials/info to begin with.

Removing the bezel is a bit tricky and may require some past experiences (or mistakes, lolz). It's best explained in pictures though. Google that as well. I broke few bezels at the beginning many years ago.

As for potential speed loss, you don't need to worry about that. spindle HDD can never exceed even sata 2.

Do you think it is worth it to have "IC Diamond 24 Carat Thermal Compound on both CPU/GPU" from gentech, if so, how does it affect the warranty.

It doesn't void the warranty if its done through one of the main retailers (which includes gentech if I'm not mistaken). As far as value, it's up to you. The tests I've seen haven't made a strong case for a re-paste over the stock compounds, so it's not something I would spend money on personally. However, there are others who have little faith in the factory job and like the piece of mind they get from the upgrade.

Strange... I have the feeling that the embargo has been delayed once again. HIDevolution doesn't seem to have the pre-order for the JH version up anymore. It is still visible on the "Featured laptops" screen, but it is not clickable and you can't search for it. I hear there are some major supply issues for the 780M at Alienware, who are delaying orders because of that. Maybe that is the reason we don't hear anything about this?

I think for the small charge it is definitely worth it, and it doesn't affect warranty if done by the authorised reseller (like Gentech).

Apart from the ICD lasting longer than stock before degradation you also benefit from it being easier to open and service the computer yourself at a later date, as usually the first time is the most difficult. Often if a cable, plug or clip is going to break it will on the first time, so why not let the reseller take the risk?

I've been reading the ROG forums for a while and there seem to be a few issues with the laptop. I have no idea if they're widespread or not, you know how it is, people with problems make more noise than happy customers, but still, these problems appear on more than one unit. They report some horizontal lines on the screen (which appear to be a driver issue, not hardware), and some crackling and hissing noises from the headphone jack (so much for the headset amp), and one or two mention that their CPU heats up a lot, but the CPU fan doesn't spin at max speed (or even near it), and a lot of them complain that the 5400 rpm HDD slows down the computer a lot (not a problem for me, I'm definitely going with SSDs). So I'm glad that the JH model isn't out yet, so we can see how all of these problems turn out. I'm still waiting for some proffesional reviews to start popping up. I still haven't found any other laptop that I would like nearly as much as this one, so I don't know what to buy if ASUS did too many mistakes with the G750.

It's bizarre to see a 5400RPM drive in these at all. I'd much rather see them go with a lower capacity drive to cut cost, like a 500GB 7200RPM, instead of dropping rotation rate.

I was a G73 guy and man those machines had terrible QA. I returned 3 of them for different defects. And the forum here is riddled with giant help threads. So I'm hesitant about ASUS... If you get a flawless machine they are awesome though.

I have none of those issues. And the horizontal lines appear to be isolated to mainly BestBuy version. And complaining about HDD is laughable. For the record though, mine came with 2 7200RPM drives which I immediately replaced as soon as I got the laptop.

Overall the issues you mention are really minor. Go read MSI Haswell GE60 thread. The issues that laptop has is major.

As I have said, Some people are having them (and are of course vocal about it) and most aren't. The only problem that worried me was the headphone audio output. I'll be changing the HDD and the lines are proven to be a driver issue. How is your audio output on the headset alucasa?

Its down to luck really, but I'm sure that 98% of people get a good G750. The G73 did have assembly line quality issues for sure. I found out first hand as mine had tape in the CPU fan making a noise. It shipped out like that, so quality control failed. Very unlucky. After I fixed that my G73 was a great notebook. And normally those 98% happy customers, you don't hear from.

HIDevolution are going to repaste mine and with that if there was tape again inside other Asus laptop I get then they will find it. To be honest the factory paste job is average at best.

My UX32vd had average paste job, I redid the paste with IC diamond 7 and my GPU temp dropped 6 degrees. So its worth it. Proof here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...87-asus-ux32vd-owners-lounge.html#post8755269

Add Audio Control panel that disappears after upgrading audio drivers (or reinstall Windows) and inability to use OEM Nvidia drivers. I ended up canceling my order with Xotic, cause I have very little to no faith in Asus's ability to fix all those problems.

Battery life seems to be very good on JW/JX: it's around 5.5 hours with everything off and minimum brightness, and around 3 hours with web and WI-FI ON.

Big delay on my G750 from HIDEvolution. Seems they had a lot of orders and have to wait for new stock from Asus. Could be 3 weeks wait then another week customize my system :(

So I canceled my order unfortunately too much of a wait for me. Second thoughts on the G750 due to maintenance. I'm getting a bit tired of opening my latops up nowadays. Got a GT60 780M instead...Will be my first MSI. Easy to upgrade and easy to clean out dust. Its going to be a beast. Noisy and hot when gaming I know :( Shame it doesn't have Asus's sexy stealth look and cooling + rear vents.

    GT60 positives over G750

    780M
Easy to upgrade, add IC diamond etc
    Easy to clean out dust
    Great audio
    Optimus

    Negatives VS G750:

    More expensive
    Hotter
    Louder
    Ugly

I might come back for a G750Jh if they are $2,000 for the base 780M model without mSATA's. And only if my MSI GT60 is just too loud and hot and the G750 is cooler running ;)

Good luck to G750 owners. I almost was going to be one .....

Personally for me, the only options I'm gonna take are the asus g750jh or clevo p370sm3, waiting on a full review on that asus jh. Would like to know about the headphone out quality on the asus. Was slightly miffed about the soldered cpu, but as a develpor was pleased about the vt-d on the hq. Msi is not an option. Intersting dell can multiplex the optumus and direct gpu for alienware and precision range, but for the type of laptop I'm after, optimus not a major factor

I had a lot of audio problems on my G53 when it first arrived - uninstalling the realtek audio software/drivers and loading the generic windows suite fixed them all. Not sure if it's the same issue with the G750's.

LOL funny to hear all the MSI bashing from all the Asus fanboys here:

    Lets see...

    GT70 vs G750

    1. Mechanical keyboard with customizable LED vs Generic keyboard with one colour

    2. Dynaudio (best there is) vs SonicMaster

    3. One fan vs Dual fan

    4. Changable fanspeed through software vs locked fanspeed

    5. 3*mSATA in Raid0 vs 2 standard SATA slots which you can raid

    6. Aluminum on both lid and palmrest vs Aluminum only on palmrest

    7. Upgradable GPU since it have MXM slot vs Non upgradable GPU since Asus use their own MXM form factor

    8. Upgradable CPU since its a non soldered CPU vs Non upgradable CPU since its soldered to the motherboard

    9. Then we have the GT70 screen which is a ton better than the Asus G750 screen:

I`m sorry but the MSI is far better in everything except cooling since the G750 have dual fan. But its sort of a moot point since GT70 is more than capable of cooling the hardware without creating too much noise or damaging the hardware inside.

Good luck, dude. My experience with Haswell MSI is limited to GE60, so I can't commend on GT60. GT60 does offer superior customization ability and do allow you easy way of cleaning fans.

And, yeah, raiding SSD is total waste of dough. You would be wise to avoid the GT750 with msata raided.
