Hi Hendrickson, enjoyed chatting with you over on the MSI boards about your GT60, and as an Asus owner as well with the same basic design machine (G46), I've torn down both several times, so I understand each machine inside and out... and your signature is not fair or accurate: MSI GT60 is I agree *either* HOT or LOUD, but it is by no means both, this of course with the 780m, which as others have said is a huge difference in performance/power/heat GPU than your current 770m G750. We were more than fair and honest when helping each other on the MSI side, and as a fellow Asus owner that does own both brands and likes each, let's at least remain honest for the people that randomly google search these pages and don't read the other posts. The Asus G750 is a great machine, just never meant to be opened by the user. It's at this point cooler and quieter and noticeably less powerful. The JH when released should perform with the other top end machines, which should be compared to the GT60 780m, but it's not correct to compare the two at this point.... you should be comparing the GT60 w/770m which you did not own or test.

Not trying to start any issues or fuss, and I own/love both brands; we each reached different conclusions on where to put our money. If the G750 had an upgradeable CPU, Optimus, and the 780m wasn't late to the party I'd probably own one and be praising it completely, but that wasn't the case. I love the Asus design and prefer them, as well as the newer G series build quality based on my G46 which I LOVE... but let's at least compare apples to apples :)

I've always commented that the 780M is much more powerful in these threads. And hotter, and too that the 770M is weaker and cooler. People would know from the number that the 780M is superior. I'm sure the G750JH will be much hotter and louder too. Out of the box the G750JX 770M is quite and cool. My repasting is not something that most would do. But all the resellers do offer it. Gentech, Xotic, HIDevolution etc...

Saying the Gt60 was hot and loud is true when I used it out of the box, no 3rd party fan controller to force the fans to 80%. I'm not making anything up here. Just find my post in the thread when I game out of the box on my desk without a notebook cooler. Owning both systems at the same time you make these comparisons. One thing I did compare apples to apples is the CPU temps.. But that's not fair as the Asus has no thermal bridge and dual fans. Oh and the G750 screen is much brighter almost double it seems.

I'm not trying to make a fuss or issue just stating facts from a person that has had both machines. Again, my own personal view as I'm sure you will all know its a forum full of personal views. The GT60 is a good machine if baby sat with fan controllers to set your own limits on fan noise and heat. But your forgetting that my unit had a loud buzzing fan at idle (common fault with the NSTech fan) Faulty Blu ray drive that threw a fit when trying to read disks. Again I'm just stating facts on my unit, that it seems some don't want me too. Being honest about my experience is not to be confused with trying to rubbish the machine....Don't people google for honest opinions of a product they are interested in?

I will edit my sig as the MSI forum finds it offensive it seems that I called it a "hot loud beast of a machine", no harm intended! It is a powerful beast, hot and loud... But ok....I removed it.

For the record I brought the $1999 GT60 intending to keep it. Not to bash the MSI forum lol :D...I lost money from it as returning it was going to be too costly (I'm in europe) posting back to the USA was going to be about $300 to return it. SO I sold it to a friend that was going to take the G750. In the end we swapped. If only the GT60 had worked out for me.

If I can get hold of a 780M G750JH and borrow my friends GT60 I will compare apples to apples.

Well the JH is going to be bigger, so hopefully larger heatsinks will offset some of that extra heat output.

Bigger? Well, taller slightly from what's been said and shown.

Who cares about the fanboys. I don't have any kind of brand loyalty, so it's hard to imagine what they go through when they are conflicted.

By the by, GPU is overrated. High-end GPU used to be important some years ago but it is not anymore. Mid-range laptop GPU will suit the need of the most. Being able to play games in Ultra is just for e-ego . If set up right, even my Lenovo Y480 played Skyrim smoothly which I was shocked to find out.

Yep if you don't need ultra mode SXA, AA x 8 and AFx16 etc etc modes then mid range is fine. I'm sure the 765M will be enough for most.

Unless you want to play the latest AAA titles at 1080p at around 60FPS.

PC gaming sucks mostly these days anyway. It has some FPS and that's about it. I don't play FPS and I don't care of so-called AAA titles. It's consoles where the good games are most of time.

P.S. Playing Shin Megami Tensei 4 on 3DS at the moment. Finished The last of Us few weeks ago. God, that game was a masterpiece. Neither of them is on PC.

I cannot agree with this, Pc gaming is amazing, mods are amazing, multiplayers and mmo's wipe the floor with what is on consoles, though I must agree for The last of us, what a beautiful game, it is nice to see the genre (infected post apocalyptic) finally done justice, shame it will never see it's way to PC .

that's why you get the JX instead of the JH and then use the difference to buy a console and use it to play console exclusives and crappy PC ports that have bad FPS on the laptop :D best of both worlds.

Yeah I wouldn't want to be playing Skyrim and all the mods on a console! It looks amazing in 2560 x 1440p and plays really smooth in Ultra. 50 fps more or less.

Yes, there are some games on PC that need to be played but what you cannot play on PC are just too many. There are games on PC I play that never made to consoles such as Football manager series, X-universe and so on but if I honestly compare the amount of games I would miss out by not having consoles is huge.

If I was given a choice of ditching PC games for consoles games, I would do so. PC gaming is not amazing if you widen your prospective which is why I have Xbox, PS3, Vita, 3DS, and Wii. I didn't buy Wii U because there aren't hardly any games on it. That console is a failure. It's even more failure than Vita.

When you cannot play a heart wrenching game like The last of Us, it sucks. FF Crisis Core, Tales series, Persona, some select NIS games, Xenoblade, Monster Hunter, God Eater, the list goes on and on. PC gaming has neither quality nor quantity.

Meh I do not agree, I would pick PC gaming without hesitation .
Consoles cater to kids, JRPG these past years have gone down the drain, shooters are dumbed down to the point were they add auto aim, strategy games be them RTS, 4X or simulations are rare I could even say extinct, anything worth playing RPG wise is either ported to PC or from PC, the only console games I feel I have missed out on in the last console generation are; The last of us, Forza 4, The Uncharted series, the last Zelda game, I cannot think of any others, I got to play those anyways, I just do not have the pleasure of owning them .

The only thing I feel I am missing out on is a handful of games in an entire console generation, and I will gladly miss out to avoid a >13 year old multiplayer gaming community .

I would have missed out on waaay more PC games in the last few years alone, Diablo 3, LOL, Dota 2, Xcom, Civ5, Planeteside 2, Arma 2 (DayZ and mods) Arma 3, Guildwars 2, Torchlight 2, PoE, StarCraft 2, Fallen Enchantress, Warframe, Eve online etc etc not to mention all of the games ported to and from consoles and the extensive mods that can be added to them making them soooo much better than their console counterparts .
Anyways just saying, maybe I am getting old, but button mashing games a la God of War got stale for me really quickly, the lack of maturity in JRPG makes me hate a once loved genre and a complete void in strategy oriented games and previously mentioned gripes are for me a deal breaker .

That said I do enjoy playing Consoles from time to time, be it to play that must play exclusive, or hanging out with friends in front of a multiplayer, would I ditch PC gaming for Console gaming? not a chance . ^^

Each to their own, I shall not say more.

I guess I am a 40 year-old kid then :p At least play The Last of Us. Missing that game out is a brutal shame on any gamer.

I'm playing that too, its a great game. No doubt be my last game on my PS3 for a long time. Plan on playing GTA 5 on my Xbox 360, then i guess its onto the next gen xbox one for me or ps4.

Back on subject, any G750jh news yet? I'm interested to see how much heavier, louder it will be and hotter it will be compared to the JX/JW.

Yes of course, to each their own . =)

For the ">13 year old" and "cater to kids" statement, it was only intended to point out that most console gamers are pretty young, I do realize that there are many adults too, just less than on PC ...
And yeah I got the chance to play through The last of us, I had my eye on it since the first obscure artworks surfaced, I wouldn't have missed it for the world lol I have got to say it is my top choice for game of the year . ^^

Anyways rant/off =P back on topic

That's about $2400. And 200 grams heavier than than the G750JX/JW, must be 200 grams more of copper cooling pipes and heatsinks in there. Cooling the 780M.

My beloved Asus G73JH is showing its age and I was considering to buy a second hand Alienware M17xR4.

But wow, these new Asus looks superb! The aluminum like palm rest is just beautiful!

Looks like we'll have more information about the configuration with the 780m on next month (august, right?) but for $2000+... I really don't know :(

The ASUS should run quieter and have more GPU power but lacks the easy maintenance and upgrade options of the Alienware. I would choose between this year's Alienware 17 and the ASUS G750JH.

If you are shopping for a 780M there is also MSI to consider which is the cheaper of the 3 (780M models) and does offer easy maintenance if you plan on keeping it for a few years its not hard to remove the fan and vacuum out the dust from both sides.

    • The Alienware 17 is more expensive. And has the best build qaulity. And from what I've read its not that quite and did have throttling issues?.
    • The Asus should be the quietest of the 3, but this won't be confirmed till its out. Price is not confirmed either. Could be aprox $2200 to $2400
    • The MSI is also loud, but its the cheapest coming in just under 2k for the 780M GT70 or GT60

Sager/Clevo offer 780M's too, tend to be louder machines. Good temps, nothing really wrong with them.

The AW 17 is not too loud either. After a repaste, I would expect it to approach G750 noise levels. The 18" is quieter than the 17", because Dell seems to have "cheaped" out on the 17's CPU cooling fan and heatsinks as usual.

About cost: Dell has given out 10-30% coupons for the last few days that stack with discounts and gift cards from haggling. The offer expires today. People are getting the Alienware 18 with 780m SLI for cheaper than I expect the G750JH to be.

Hey, some new official info for the G750JH! :p

    Compare:

    Asus G750JX: 410 x 318 x 17 ~50 mm (WxDxH) (w/ 8cell battery) 0.66in -1.96in

4.8 kg (with 8 cell battery)

    Asus G750JH: 410 x 318 x 18 ~58 mm (WxDxH) (w/ 8cell battery) 0.70in -2.28in

    4.8 kg (maybe without battery?)

Still less height than the G74, not bad Asus.

Just got my Asus G750JX, awesome PC. So far no problems, no lines, no headphone issues, max temp was 71 C under heavy load. It is a big fingerprint magnet, and win 8 is horrible.

Thanks to GenTechPC for being patient and friendly :)

Wow this is the best thread i have found for this topic! nice feedback everyone! ^^

Prolixious, is it too late to get one of these coupons/gift cards ?! D: that Alienware 18 SLI would so beat the G750JH.. but how is the cooling system with that ? the extra space would let them have bigger cooling pipes?!

Unfortunately, the coupon ended on 07/31 at 7 AM. I've read that the Alienware 18 has significantly better cooling.

EDIT: To not be misleading, I meant that the 18 has significantly better cooling than its predecessors, not better than the G750JH.

Okay, I just recieved my G750JX and I'm loving it. I had the horizontal lines issue, but it went away when I installed the new drivers from nvidia (and to be honest, it was really hard to notice it in the first place, I wouldn't have, if I didn't know what to be looking for). I have no headphone hissing (the sound is good), and no other problems, that some people were talking about, so all is good. I'll be trying some games as soon as they download, I'll be back with updates in a few days.

Anyone using an AC router with the AC wireless card this machine has? If so does your range improve? Lid closed using external monitor i'm only getting 2 bars of signal at best. Lid open its better of course 4-5 bars.

Thinking a AC router might improve things a bit.

Be aware the antennae are in the lid so if you close it you are changing their orientation, you could match that with your router to improve the signal.

I read your post and looked at the pic, and am confused. I just ordered a G750JW as well as a Samsung SSD, and plan on installing the SSD myself. I assumed that both drive bays would have cables and I would just plug in the SSD and move the OS to the second drive bay and use the 1TB drive for storage. But according to the pic, the Sata SSD connection does not have a cable. So, that leaves me with a couple of questions that maybe someone can answer.

    1) Does the second drive bay have a cable, and where on the Mboard is it connected to? If there is no cable, then how difficult is it to get to the SSD connector on the mainboard.

    2) Why would one Sata port be marked for a HD and the other for a SSD? If they are both Sata3 connectors, what difference would it make what port you connected the SSD to?

I haven't gone through the whole thread, but is anyone having problems with background noise when using earphones?

I have a rather high annoying background noise. It's a hissing sound that sounds like wind blowing or something. If I turn the volume all the way down it disappears but comes back as soon as the sound is enabled again. Changing the volume from 2 - 100 has no effect on the level of the hiss. Only turning it all the way down to 0 will take it away.

I have compared with my old Acer, but there is no such sound on that one. I have a G750JX.

I need a more powerful router it seems so might try a AC router if that helps give me a boost in signal with the lid down. I do like the new routers that have usb3 ports that I can plug a 2TB hard drive into as a network storage solution.

Its unused, but the SSD models must make use of this. Or its for future expansion? Really I could not see where the mSata would go. And there is talk of the JH having two mSata connectors in one of the 2.5" bays for raid0. Maybe then its used? The HDD connector runs both the 2.5" bays and sata3 x 2 ports. So it must be for the x2 mSATA in the raid0 ssd models.

I live in germany and I'm unable to find ANY version of the asus with a glossy, or even better, with a 120Hz semi glossy screen. The normal matte one is super ugly grainy, not usable for my needs. If anyone has any info on where/when I can get these models from?

I bought mine in Basel, Switzerland from digitec.ch. It has a glossy 120Hz screen. So if you live in the south of Germany...

A few companies do offer screen upgrades to gloss types. But they are in the US. Gentech, xotic and hidevolution etc

As I wrote on the previous page, they are available in Switzerland - just south of Germany. :)

If your router has multiple antennae then you could try to re-organise them to get the best spacial coverage.

Asus is offering 120hz screens in glossy or matte based on their website specs.

Each of the 3D screens should have around a 700:1 to 800:1 contrast, around 400 nit brightness, and 85 to 90 percent uniform back-light! (very high quality) ;)

They also haven't launched all versions the G750 yet so I would give them till the end of this month. :)

how you translate 400nit and 85-90 "uniformity" into very high quality? That contrast seem unreal for tn aswell.
