Yeah we are all curious, will the 780M throttle, will it be loud, or run hot? Will it overclock ok etc guess we still have to wait a few more weeks. (I was hopefully for some Chinese site leaking a review)

What we do know is its about 300-400 grams heavier. 5kg in total quoted on some sites. 4.8 kilos on others. And of course much thicker than the JX/JW version.

    The wait continues....

I want to ask if there is any possibility to change the screen on the G750-JX version to a 120hz capable screen?

There is, you can buy an aftermarket screen and do it yourself. Not too expensive, but I wouldn't recommend doing that - voids your warranty, and the process itself is not what I would call easy.

Switzerland has it listed, but not yet on stock.
Check out those stats of this model: ASUS G750JH-T4081H
    ASUS G750JH-T4081H - brack.ch

    32 GB RAM!
256 GB SSD plus 750 GB 7200rpm drives
Non-Glare screen with unknown refresh rate and unknown WIFI module though.

The price is around 2300€, not so cheap, but maybe it drops once it's on stock a few weeks.

Having replaced my G750JX screen with the AUO Optronics LCD I had from my Clevo (P170HM), I can confirm any screen that works in that Clevo model should work in the Asus. Just saying this, because over in the sager/clevo forums you are more likely to find LCD reviews/recommendations, due to those models being a lot more customizable. P170HM screens should work in most if not all Clevo 17" chassises, so that gives you a large pool of potential reviews for screens you could use.

Replacing the LCD, while probably voiding your warranty, isn't any harder than it was on my Clevo. The plastic bezel may be a bit hard to pull out but after that it's standard LCD replacement.

Without optimus you should be able to overclock the 60hz to around 90hz giving you much of the advantage.

It's the same crappy one as every swiss model (JW&JX). Only 802.11g/n with no support for 5 GHz.

Glossy screen is just apparently of generally better quality, contrast/colours etc. So it's a shame.

I contacted some shops in Germany (including one that sells G750JH) and they have no information about 120Hz laptops ETA. :-(

The G750JH is starting to pop-up for pre-order on some US retailers websites. Looks like $2500 with a shipping date of September.

I've owned previous iterations of MSI G series and Asus G series and these are my two cents.

MSI - Definitely cheaper, and better sound quality, but that was because the G74 I had was awful for sound. Sounds like G750 is improved, but only slightly (seems like lots of issues with the poorly placed subwoofer). My MSI hinge broke in 6 months, and by 9 months the laptop lid could not stand upright on its own (MSI wouldn't fix it), so I had to prop it against windows/walls to type. Battery life was at around 2 hours, and the laptop was obnoxiously hot and the computer was obnoxiously loud, so much that audio was muffled by it. After about 9 months games that I was able to run dropped significantly in performance/lag was more noticeable, and luckily soon after that it was stolen (I got reimbursed for it through insurance) and used the insurance to buy the G74.

G74 was very happy with the cooling and performance, and even 1.5 years after it is still running the same FPS on the games that I play, and is still quiet (though it is now quite hott, but I've read that I need to reapply thermal paste). The trackpad on the ASUS is AWFUL. I used the patches that I read about in the ASUS forums, and it's stil awful. My left click on my trackpad is permanently stuck, so I have to disable it and use a mouse. Coming from the MSI my battery life was much higher so it was nice since I travel a lot and don't always have access to an outlet. There are very few backpacks that fit it, but my Swiss Gear backpack does, which was mentioned on the ASUS forums. Installing an SSD and Ram was simple, but repasting thermal paste and getting into the motherboard is a hugeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee pain. Really not user friendly.

I'm looking to buy a new laptop in a few months, and am pretty happy with the G750 and how it looks, and it sounds like MSI has not fixed their issues. However, I'm also looking at Alienware now since my work will reimburse me for my purchase, the price isn't an issue. However, I'd like to keep going with ASUS but I'm curious

    1. Is the screen that has the lines issue a glossy or matte? I don't know if it matters since I'm going to use Xotic or another reseller and upgrade the screen.
    2. How bad is the audio/subwoofer? This is not a big issue for me since I usually have my own audio setup, but there are times where I'm just too lazy to plug things in. Also, is the headphone amp that bad as others have reported? If so, that is very unfortunate.
    3. Is the trackpad more responsive/better?
    4. Can i replace the standard wifi card easily? '
    5. How is the optical drive? The one on my g74 is quite loud when reading discs.
    6. How long did it take for anyone to reapply thermal paste to their CPU/GPU?
I think those are my main issues/concerns.

Still sad no optimus, as much of a headache some users have with it I find it to be invaluable for the times I spend on a plane or a train or an automobile. But this asus seems to have an extra hour or two over my current asus, so can't be that bad.

I suspect it's matte. I had the matte screen upon arrival, and while I didn't notice lines I had it on for no more than 5 minutes. I did notice flickering when the brightness was low. Whether this is hardware or caused by software Asus installs (splendid smth), I can't tell. I replaced the LCD with my AUO glossy from my old Clevo and have had no issues at all.
Comparing to my Clevo P170HM it's about on the same level. It's loud enough to comfortably watch Netflix on the kitchen table (yeah, I know, I shouldn't). Haven't noticed any problems with the sub. What I think, though subjectively, is that the speakers are sort of obstructed by the screen, so it sounds like they're behind something. Still, I'd rate them as slightly better than average laptop speakers. I've heard a LOT worse.
Edit - I've used Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro (80ohm version) headphones with the headphone jack and have noticed no hiss/crackle or whatever issues. Can't tell what results would be with other headphones though.
Trackpad is amazing. I can compare it with my wife's Macbook Pro's trackpad, and it's almost as good. It's huge, smooth, and has large easily clicked buttons.
You'll have to semi-teardown the laptop (and will void the warranty, I believe). The screen will have to come off, then the whole keyboard panel (it's flush with the palmrest). YOu will then see the motherboard. Top left is the CPU fan, with 2 wires for the antenna connecting the lid to the wifi card next to it.
Can't say, as I haven't used it at all. I think in the past 3 years I've used the optical drive on my laptops twice.
Quite long, as you have to entirely tear down the laptop. There's a thread (called "G750 disassembly") with pics from 2 members that will give you an idea of what to do. It's not for the fainthearted.

    Hope I helped.

The screens that have the lines were mostly matte I think. I had them for 5 minutes aswell, until I downloaded the new drivers and removed all the ASUS bloatware (not sure what fixed it, did everything at once). The audio does seem a bit muffled, as villiansv said, but it's better than any other laptop I ever used, and it's louder than most. I think some tinkering with the settings and perhaps turning the "subwoofer" off would help with the quality. As for the headphone hiss, I have none of it, and I even ran the sound through my 150W guitar amp, and there was no white noise (there was some on my previous laptop, and that had no hissing that you could hear by just listening through headphones, so it's a definite step up). In regards to the trackpad, it's amazing, I didn't expect much of it, since I owned an Asus before, but this one is very nice to use, huge, responsive, and the multitouch gestures work as they do on Apple products. And the temps and noise are low, even when gaming. I have yet to break 70 degrees (while it's 35+ degrees outside, mind you), which is ice cold for a gaming laptop. And the build quality is really solid, I love the look of it. So I can easily recommend it.

    @optimus12345

    1. My screen on my G750 was very bright. It was almost twice as bright as my GT60's. Its more grainy looking. But I got use to it and preferred it over my GT60's dull screen in comparison. I had no lines issues that some have had. Lucky I guess?

    2. I have had both the MSI GT60 and ASUS G750 at the same time while the sub helps in the G750. Its no way near as good as the GT60's speaker placement and sub. That sound is the best i've heard in a notebook. And I've heard a few in my time.

    6. Repasting the CPU and GPU took some time. I would say an hour. Was a pain. But I went really slow with it and very please with the results. My idle on the 770M was as low as 35 degrees with an ambient temp of around 28. Which also meant the fan didn't even spin up much when browsing websites etc.

    5. The optical drive makes some noise yes. Every time I powered it on or it came out of sleep it made a zip..buzz zip noise. Not really an issue but still a pain nevertheless.

Unfortunately I no longer have my G750, long story..... I have my Gt60 back which I need to fix a few issues on. My G750 had zero issues out of the box. GT60 = a few small things i'm now fixing.

I would also add, if your a big time gamer and like gaming with max settings at 60fps always. The 770M might not cut it with all games. If you want 60fps all the time that is. I was happy with the 770M it preformed better than i thought and overlocked I got 6k 3dmark11 points out of it. Putting it level to a stock 680M?

Build quality and design in the G750 are top notch.

Thanks for the input guys, that definitely makes me more at ease now. The trackpad was a HUGE issue for me (and still is right now) so the fact that it actually works now is good to hear =).

Hopefully, I won't have to repaste CPU/GPU for a while, might just upgrade it immediately through Xotic so I don't have to do it on my own. How much of a temp difference did anyone get from repasting their CPU/GPU? If it's only a few degrees I might just wait but if it's over 5 I might just have to avoid it.

Also, how is the key registry? The middle of my keyboard it seems to have some trouble registering the keys sometimes but not very often.

I repasted because my cpu was hitting 98 degrees under load. Turned out half of it wasn't even covered by paste. Under burnin test, after 10 mins, it now maxes out at 80 degrees. GPU was fine from the get-go, never going over 70 degrees (cpu too, while gaming).

If you are getting it from xoticpc (i.e. a dedicated custom gaming laptop reseller, i personally know of them from the clevo forums), and have the option for them to repaste, I'd definitely ask them to do it.

Once again, the trackpad is amazing. It really is. Large, smooth, gestures work perfectly, buttons easy to click. Unless you go for a macbook pro, you won't get a better touchpad IMHO (and even then it's more of an aesthetic preference, really).

Even if they do, please keep in mind that in germany we have a QWERTZ Keyboard Layout (not QWERTY) with switched positions of Z and Y and other different keys like ö,ä,ü and so on.

And we have a different AC plug, so you would need an adapter.

If your real diehard you can switch the keys, removing them and put them in the QWERTY order. Or use stickers :( But I think the Dutch/Netherlands G750JH's have English QWERTY keyboards or at least similar?

Yes the G750 trackpad is one of the best I've used and its also huge which isn't a bad thing when you have a 17" notebook.

Yeahhhhh.... never mind on that plan lol. It's too bad too, the price isn't all that high to buy it and have it shipped (~2300$).

I've contacted Asus and all the major resellers and none of them seem to have any idea when the 780m JH models will ship. The September 15th date on Xotic is just another placeholder, not a known release date.

I'll wait for any new until Monday then order a 770m model. I'm not looking to invest that much money this gen anyway, maybe after the first maxwell or voltas come out.

It's the same price as the similarly equipped MSI (GT70 2OD-019), so no? Unless they should both be cheaper (which I'd probably agree with). Also, you noticed that's September 15th, right?

What I want to know is when/if we'll see lower models (G750JH-RB71?) like there are for the JX? (And of course, price)

Also, Xotic's customization page doesn't allow you to add a second HD/SSD, only 1 HD + 2x mSATA SSD's. This seems to confirm the statement a while back that the mSATA slots use up the second HD slot. I wonder if there's any way to get the second slot back (so I can use my full-size SSD)?

    1. I have G750JX with the Glare 120Hz 3D Panel from Samsung. There are no vertical lines and no grain. It's glare but just a little bit (like on the MacBook Air)

    2. Compared to my previous M18x and M14x it's bad. But not as bad than other notebooks. The Wave Setting Action helps a lot. Sound from the headphone jack is really good.

    3. The Trackpad and the Buttons are almost as good as on the AWs means they are pretty good.

    4. You have to remove the palmrest. Removing the display is as far as I know not necessarily. But you will loose the warranty for sure.

    Hope this helps.....

The lid has to come off (not the lcd panel itself, but the entire lid half of the clamshell), or you can't take the palmrest out. The whole design around the hinges is really frustrating to dismantle (at least was for me).

Ah ok, sorry didn't know that. There are only still images around. Would be nice if somebody could make a disassemble video and put it on YouTube.

Speaking of YouTube there is a very nice Review of the G750JX which covering all areas from MobileTechReview:

Very cool! Would be very nice if you'd provide photos of your beast! Which model do you own? G750JH-T4080H (90NB0181-M00930)? I guess you're living in Germany, too ;-).

    Hey guys,

    here are my first impressions:

I have the german model G750JH-T4080 with the following specs:
    Intel 4700HQ, Nvidia GTX 780m, 8Gb Ram, 1000GB HDD + 256GB SSD + Killer WirelessLAN + RoG Gaming Mouse. Price 1999€

First of all, it looks really awesome. Display is also very good. No horizontal lines or anything. Also no problem with the wireless lan quality.

It just tested the temps and noise in Idle, Gaming (GuildWars 2, 1080p, Utra settings, everything on max.) and 30min Prime+Furmark stress test:

    1. Idle: Temps 45-48 degrees CPU and GPU, sitting in front of the notebook in a quiet room: almost not hearable. Very very quiet.
    2. Gaming: Temps 62-65 degrees CPU, 60 degree GPU, Still very quiet. Hearable if you switch of the sound and the room itself is quiet. Normal gamesound with internal speakers is many times louder than the fans. No CPU or GPU throtthling. Ingame FPS ~50fps.
    3. Stress test: Temps: 78-80 degrees CPU, 77degrees GPU. The noise is also very impressive. It is hearable but still very silent. Maybe a little bit louder than gaming. It is more quiet than man old G73jh and almost the same level as the Clevo P150SM (Haswell+780m) i had a few days in IDLE MODE. I would say same noise level als the other G750s (JX,JW). But after ~10min of prime the CPU starts to throttle from 3200mhz so ~3000mhz.

side note: my room temperature is around 27 degrees because it is summer and i am sitting below the roof :)

Maybe i get some pics or a video online today or tomorrow.

In my oppinion the notebook is really really great. Its the only one which is really silent while gaming and also not too hot. I'm looking forward to the notebookcheck test but i am pretty sure, this one will win the competition against clevo, msi and alienware. Impressive piece of technology.
