Had a chat with a sales rep at HIDevolution who didn't think they'd have any problem replacing the mSATA drive with a standard 2.5" caddy so I'll wait and see.

Tempted to just order the 770m model since it's such a good price. No US Release until at least September is really annoying for the 780m model. Maybe I'll try calling Notebook.de and see if they have any english qwerty keyboards handy lol.

The testing I have had on my 770M has shown it to be very competent and tweakable (of course asus models may differ) it runs very cool too.

I thought they were looking at mid August, where did you get September from?

EDIT: Ah here I assume? Has that date been confirmed by anyone else in the US?

XoticPC has the same date and ASUS support also told me "some time in September."

Update: Just got off the phone with Notebook.de (via Skype Call). They have surprisingly very helpful and nice sales reps. I asked them about the keyboard and they did confirm that their models only came with a QWERTZ keyboard HOWEVER they also confirmed that the 770M model keyboard fits perfectly inside the 780M model despite the slight difference in chassis design. They also said they would ask he manufacturer if they could have a QWERTY keyboard model, but I doubt they'll get a yes on that one.

So depending on how long it would take, I'm sure I could order the model from Notebook.de then ask one of the resellers or ASUS to sell me a keyboard from any of the other models.

Depends on whether or not the shipping would take as long as waiting until September anyway I suppose. Just something to think about.

Don't forget, if you order international that you pay delivery (probably 50-100 USD from Germany to America), Taxes, Toll, ... which can also add an other 100-500 USD, depending on your local taxes!

Computers are duty free as far as I know, and most states still don't charge taxes for items purchased online.

Shipping will be approximately $200 though.

Here you go default extreme setting.. GPU core +140Mhz and RAM + 500Mhz. The G750 will be able to match this when the 780M is overclocked. And you have a 230W PSU where my GT60 has a 180W one. I could push it futher but it uses my battery and I don't want that (MSI hybrid mode)

Vs stock 780M clocks on G750JH. (thx Killian)

As you can see overclocking does make a big difference if your playing games in Ultra. The extra 6-7 FPS is free :) I notice it more running at 2560 x 1440p

What I wanted to say with my 1 word post, the reason for it not working is Nvidia and their "not so good in the last several months" drivers. Try the newest beta one, which was already mentioned.

Nice results Hendrickson! Maybe i try to OC the JH in a week or so. I don't have that much time now :/ But OC seems worth it. But don't forget the driver. I think my old nvidia driver also slows down the system especially in benchmarks like heaven.

I know this gets asked a lot but at what temperature should I start getting worried? My PC reached 78C (CPU) after an hour of gaming(GTA 4), I know this is normal. What should I expect once the PC starts aging?

Is Asus using the Broadcom ac like they did on the G75VX on these new G750 or are they still using that crappy Atheros AR425/AR485 card that keeps on disconnecting?

My G750JX came with a Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter. No ac, only n. Definitely worse than the intel in my old Clevo - that one used to get max bars (5) from my router, this one is usually at 4, sometime 3. However, I have had no disconnects whatsoever. I'll probably replace the wireless card in a year when it's time to repaste.

Would be awesome if you take a picture of the keyboard when it arrives. I wanna see how the german keyboard looks, and if it's worth the hassle to change to a US one.

Also, do anyone know if it's possible to configure the laptop with a 120Hz 3D screen somewhere?

I saw a 3D model with the 770m listed on australian and british websites, don't know of any 780m with the 3D screen that is out yet.

    I wish Asus wasn't so slow -_-

I went to notebook.de to check out their prices, and dude you got totally shafted. You say that their price is cheaper than XoticPC's preorder page but lets take a look at it shall we. first of all their base price is 1999 euro, which if you do some basic math is about 2647 dollars on the day im writing this. That is already much higher than the 2499 which is actually about 2424 after their 3% cash discount. And guess what, XoticPC is offering FREE shipping, so that is a nonissue.

Next if you had even read the specs of the system you bought before you spent that exorbitant amount of money you would have seen that notebook.de's base model only comes withh 8gb of ram, whearas the XoticPC model that is already $200 cheaper with free shipping comes with 24gb. There isnt even an option to add that amount of memory at notebook.de you can add 16gb or 32gb, and to add 16gb with 2 8sticks that you could expand yourself to 24gb it adds a whopping 319 euros which brings the price to over 3100 USD.

Also, i have spoken with the folks at XoticPC about their preorder for this product and since asus is being quite tight lipped about the release of this system, they say that the price and options listed on their pre-order page arent set in stone because the product hasnt actually been released yet, they specifically said it may come stock with a blue ray writer as well.

I understand that some people just cant wait to get the actual model that asus will push and market to the masses but dont tell people that you are getting it cheaper than 99% of US places are offering it for because you are paying a premium for what is likely to be less than what will be avaialble.

Notebook.de price probably also includes the German 19% vat, which you probably can discount, if it's not happening automatically. Where as the American model probably is excluding vat?

If you're not looking for a customized G750, Newegg has a 10% off deal using v.me (up to $30) which might help save a few bucks, especially if you live in a state where you don't get taxed.

Guys be as patient as you can, or you might buy something without final specs and end up paying too much. (a lot of websites have wrong specs) :(

Also in the US, for $3,200 you can get a beast G750JH! :D

    XoticPC

(90% NTSC color, FHD glossy screen)
    (thermal paste upgrade to GPU/CPU)
    (copper cooling upgrade)
    (32gb of 1600Mhz ram)
    (afterburner lighting)
    (laser sketch lid + palmrest)
    (2x 128gb SSD raid 0 + 1 TB HDD 7200RPM)
    (intel wireless AC card)
    (Blu-ray reader)
    (extra battery 8-cell)
    (extra adapter 230w)

Mine would have the 3D screen tho. ;)

I'm trying to decide whether the 90% glossy or 72% matte screen would be better
I read that you can buy a matte cover to put on notebook screens anyone have any experience with those?

Seeing as you are not biased against either glossy or matte, just use common sense. If you plan on using the laptop in a dark room, glossy will likely be better. If you plan on gaming in sunny/well lit rooms and glare is an issue, then go for matte. It also depends on whether lamps in your room are always on, for example, and if they happen to be directly behind you (thus contributing to glare/reflections). IMO (personal preference) glossy is a better choice overall for a gaming laptop, since you are less likely to use in in a well lit/bright environment.

    1. No US places are "offering it" as of yet, even XoticPC has taken it off of their website once again.

    2. The total price I was quoted including shipping and insurance was 1,826.89 Euros, or $2,421.54 You do not pay duties on laptop computers and I do not pay sales tax on items ordered online in my state.

    3. RAM is irrelevant. If more than 8GB of RAM is what you desire, it is always cheaper to buy from Newegg and install it oneself regardless of the reseller.

    4. I actually did cancel my German order because it became available from Canada (America's hat) this morning. I purchased from NCIX: ASUS ROG G750JH Intel Haswell I7-4700HQ 24GB 1.5TB 256GB SSD GTX780M 17.3in FHD BD Win8 Notebook That model does come with 24GB of RAM, since that's a big deal for you lol. Even so, my total price with shipping and insurance came out to $2,399.20, a paltry $30 cheaper than ordering from Germany (granted I ordered with expedited shipping). It does however save you 100$ on the replacement US keyboard since the Canadian keyboard is the same as ours (called to confirm it was not a bilingual model.)

    5. One should always research before criticizing others. If you want to wait until mid-September feel free, of course.

I did my research and that's why I responded to you I was unaware of the extra fee being discounted but my point still stands that even if you were to purchase the ram (which on a gaming laptop 8gb is laughable and useless) on new egg you would still end up paying 100-200 more than the xoticpc pre order price

The purchase from Canada though is a nice development however, although I may still wait to see if the 3d screen is available in the us release

On a gaming laptop 8GB is the sweet spot actually.

Only professional uses or highly modded titles would need more.

I've been using NCIX as my Canadian supplier for years, and was waiting until the G750JH became available. I didn't want to pre-order, so I could keep my options open until release time and in case it was offered faster/cheaper elsewhere. Anyway, I called them today and they said they got a supply of them in today, but immediately sold out from pre-orders and the next batch will be Sept! I'm very disappointed. If they knew about these pre-orders, why did they not order more, unless Asus is greatly restricting the amount that go out?

No it isn't. I think you don't understand what "highly modded titles" mean. First of all there is no game in the world which needs 8GB ram or even close to it. And they won't be any game in the next 2 years which will change this (maybe 5 years).

Only a few games can be modded to an extend that this much ram is needed. Maybe the guy who runs Skyrim with +150 mods needs nearly 8GB ram but imo not even him. And i also don't think to try this is not why i buy this machine :).

There are only two scenarios to need more than 8Gb ram today:

    1. professional use. Specific software like CAD or something like that.
    2. Doing many things paralelly. If you want to play highly modded skyrim + encode a video + run some 3dmark benchmark at the same time then yes, 8GB will not be enough. But in this case not the ram is your problem but the cpu and gpu..

So overall, absolutely no reason to have more than 8GB in a gaming pc / notebook these days.

Pulled the trigger today on a JH (German version). Pretty sure it is a great notebook, only remaining concern is the display. It competes against an Eizo screen and a Studio XPS with Adobe gamut. I am on business trip, when it arrives, so my feedback will only be in ten days.

Who ever mentioned the Canadian site NCIX, I love you man! I have purchased it from them Lastnight 2300$ canadian dollars, aprox. 2223US $ which is not bad at all! compared to the EU Estores markets, and i believe it would be around the same price once its released in the states.

shipping to States took 60$ through fedex ( 2 days shipping!) so shipping route would be Canada > US > Kuwait lol ( middle eastern country :p ) through US i have a forward box that forwards shipments to my home address in Kuwait :)

Along with the awesome laptop purchase i have, bought a discounted laptop bag for 80$.. too bad this year they are not coming with any Asus/ Laptop bag/Mouses ? or maybe its too early to offer it with that now ? I hope they won't offer it with the US offical release lol..

Anywho expecting it to be delivered to Kuwait next week! hopefully will make it for FFXI ARR early access start date :D

Thanks again for this awesome post.

So why are some people complaining about the G750 display being too smudgy/grainy? Are these the crappy best buy models or even the regula retail models are having these issues on the display?

Is it a Chi Mei or Auo or LG display?

It is the Chi Mei. Some people do not like the relativ grainy matte coating.

I am more worried because it is a) TN and b) has only 80% sRGB gamut.

The memory thing is a "PC clicker thing".
There are almost zero 64 bit gaming titles. Still people believe that games magically can break the 4 gig barrier.
You can put in 1000000 gig memory on you PC and see zero difference in gaming (today).

And since gaming is 32bit, 64bit just slows down the computer. (X86 is slower in 64bit then 32bit. Its an extensions thing)

Last: Windows have poor memory management. You can throw on 32gig and still don't have memory free since Windows take as much memory it can to cache stuff.

Now: I don't advocate buying 32bit computers with 32bit OS and only 3.5 gig memory.
But people should have a bit of IT know-how before they tell people that they have to have 8gig + for "high resolution gaming".

the screen on my G750JX is the ChiMei N173HGE-L11, which is too grainy. So I decided to replace it with the LG display screen, LP173WF1-TLB3.
The LG display is so beautiful. It is not too grainy compared to the ChiMei. The colors look really better.
There is also a big green float appearing on the ChiMei screen every time I restart my laptop.

The ChiMei is really cheap crap.

I am please with my LG screen now.

You need to open up the screen. The model number is on the back of the panel.

Or check the hardware ID in the device manager. I have the CHI MEI aswell, but I kind of like it. I got used to it in a few minutes, and now it's fine.
