I had the same worries - but yes, it can take a 2.5" SSD. It doesn't seem to have a a 2.5" caddy for it though.. Which is a bother.

Does anyone know where to get one of those cheap in Canada?

Ok so i think i will buy one before my G751 is delivered.

EDIT: There (if you can read french :p), it is confirmed that the G751JT-T7016H (the JT with no SSD) has a 2.5" free slot!
And i didn't know that the JT version has a blu-ray player?!

What makes you think that caddy is not included? I'm sure it comes with it ,even when you going with one HD configuration. Ask retailers here to be 100% sure.

This does. Skip to the 13:00 mark.

Gentech confirms that the JY model at least does not come with a 2.5" caddy for the second drive bay.

If you get ssd in msata config - then no caddy of course. If you get one hard drive option - caddy is included.

I hope you're right. Thankfully there's an NCIX right by where I live, so if not, hopefully I can find something there. (... Though I can't find any laptop drive caddys on their website..)

I thought I would put together a list of communications as of today, detailing the responses
from the different stores around Europe and England & Australia. I found it rather interesting dealing with so many
shops and equally interesting reading some of the responses.

    The generic message I have sent to each inbox or webnote service is as following;
    ==============================================
    Hi there,

    I'm searching fora quote on the following;

    Asus G751JY-T7009H

    When will stock become available?
    ------------------------------------
What is the cost to purchase in-store?

    What is the quote for the laptops plus delivery to (happy for fasted safest more expensive shipping method);

    ------------------------------------
    Estimated shipping time?

I have been attempting to throw my money at someone! Hopefully it's you!

Optron, can you check to see if the PCIE connector is there at the top of the bay, where if the M.2 PCIE SSD / tray were there it would plug in.

Without the PCIE connector already there for the tray/M.2 PCIE SSD to plug in, you won't be able to add an M.2 PCIE SSD drive.

You are the first person I have talked to without the M.2 PCIE included, and we appreciate you looking to verify if the PCIE connector is there - you may need to pop out the 2.5" drive in there first to be able to see that area.

Here is a video showing the M.2 PCIE SSD / tray and removal showing the PCIE connector.

the m.2 connector is exactly as in the video, 13:20s in the video you see it. If you remove the m.2 caddy, you can put 2.5 caddy there instead.
Just my notebook came only with one drive and with 2x 2.5 caddy.
And the 2.5 caddy is blocking the m.2 connector, so i cant install it on top of the caddy, just need the same m.2 caddy as in the video.

praetorianx, that is for the M.2 SATA SSD's and RAID0 adapter card in the G750JH/JZ, it doesn't apply to the G751.

I posted an answer to Optron, and there is a video that shows the tray / M.2 PCIE SSD and bay connector.

I did make a post with info on the new at the time Samsung XP941 M.2 PCIE in preparation for an eventual Asus use in a laptop, it might be a little dated now, but anyone is welcome to post an update with additional new M.2 PCIE SSD's and the tray for the new G751.

Optron, that's great news, we were worried that the M.2 PCIE connector wouldn't come with G751's without an M.2 PCIE SSD.

Did you check around in the box? The G750's came with parts in the box, some had caddy's installed already, some didn't. Since the M.2 PCIE tray can't live in the bay at the same time as the 2.5" drive, maybe Asus tucked it away somewhere in the box?

Asus taped the drive attach screws for the spare caddy to the inside of the box, inside a plastic bag.

You will need to contact Asus, as it is too early to have the part available in the Asus estore. The G750 parts showed up about a month after release of the G750. A search on G751 doesn't turn anything up yet.

(you'll need to copy the URL manually, the automated parser is cutting it part way in so you can't just click on it)

    G750 estore listings
    http://us.estore.asus.com/index.php?l=search_list&s[search]=g750&s[title]=Y&s[short_desc]=Y&s[full_desc]=Y&s[sku]=Y&s[match]=all&s[cid]=0

G751 estore listings (when G751 parts are listed)
    http://us.estore.asus.com/index.php?l=search_list&s[search]=g751&s[title]=Y&s[short_desc]=Y&s[full_desc]=Y&s[sku]=Y&s[match]=all&s[cid]=0

Early on us G750 owners would ask for such parts from the Asus support via a Technical Inquiry. You can create a login, register your laptop, and file the Technical Inquiry here:

    https://vip.asus.com

Be patient, and be prepared to go through several people before finding someone that can help - be persistent but polite - and state your case in short simple English (or your native language) as their first language isn't English. It can be frustrating at times trying to get your point / question across, but eventually it works out.

Please come back and let us know what Asus says.

Optron, have you plugged in the M.2 PCIE XP941 to test what kind of support it will need - size wise?

I am thinking a couple of pieces of Cork under each corner, and a piece of foam on top, might be enough to wedge it in - even without glue... but I don't think I would travel with it :)

Please let us know how you get it fitted, and please post a photo or two.

Edit: It is confirmed by WhiteEyeDoll, after contacting Asus Finland, all JY's come with the PCIE connector, but he doesn't mention anything Asus said about the tray.

I'd use a small bit of rubber to support the back and some black electrical tape to secure it if I had no bracket.

If the m.2 ssd blocks out the 2.5 bay, is it not better to just get a regular 2.5" ssd? if you buy the machine without m.2 i mean..? or you don't have a m.2 from before?

    Or is m.2 ssd's much faster than 2.5" ssd's??

Kaozm, yes, PCIE with 4 lanes can do 10/20Gbit/s and the SATA III can only do 6Gbit/sec.

But, the small form factor of the M.2 SSD can get in the way too, so you want to carefully pick the specific manufacturer/model with the best specifications. More choices are starting to become available, as the PCIE M.2 is also being included in desktop/deskside/workstation motherboards / PCIE M.2 cards.

So all that's needed is the new SSD inserted in the laptop, and ASUS' proprietary cloning drive software to transfer everything from the HDD to the new SSD?

Kaozm, things are popping for M.2 PCIE SSD's, new high capacity 1TB PCIE M.2's are being announced, but for right now, the Samsung XP941 is about the best performance, but not cheap.

This may all change tomorrow, or the next day, so keep looking for new choices, and price drops to come.

Right now, you pay what they are asking, no sales, no discounts, no alternatives...

Since there is only 1 slot in the G751JY for an M.2 PCIE drive, I would want to get a 1TB drive... but there aren't any I can find for sale, yet.

    Meaker, links help :)

We probably started answering around the same time, I didn't see your post till I was mostly through mine. I was researching my post, and saw yours so removed the newegg links I had, thinking you might edit and add them later.

only samsung XP941 will fit into the G751JY slot, because it is pcie 3.0. Plextor has different slot, it has two grooves and samsung has only one groove, check the pictures

Optron, it will work, but it has an x2 interface and only uses 2 lanes of PCIE instead of 4 lanes => x4

That is why it is so much cheaper than the XP941, which has 4 lanes of PCIE - x4

Here is an article in which they ran various combinations of x2/x4 SSDs on x2/x4 sockets.
ASRock Offers Ultra M.2 Gen3 x4 32 Gb/s Socket for Ultimate Transfer Speed | techPowerUp

"The theoretical speed of Ultra M.2 is 32 Gb/s, which is 6X faster than PCIe x1 M.2, and 3X faster than PCIe x2 M.2 (Chart 1). As for Ultra M.2 vs. normal M.2 comparison, we tested the read speed of Samsung XP941 PCIe x4 M.2 SSD on Ultra M.2 socket and reached 1.16 GB/s, 46% faster than PCIe x2 M.2 socket (Chart 2). We also tested a PCIe x2 M.2 SSD on Ultra M.2 socket. Benefited from the direct linkage between Ultra M.2 interface and CPU, the PCIe x2 M.2 SSD read speed on Ultra M.2 socket is 8.8% faster than on normal M.2 socket. As shown in Chart 3, the lower latency of Ultra M.2 design does matter."

    Plextor's M6e M.2 2280 PCIe Gen2 x2
    http://www.plextoramericas.com/index.php/pcie-ssd/m2/m6e-m2-2280

    Overview of M.2 SSDs
    http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Overview-of-M-2-SSDs-586/#PCI-Elanecomplications

"The different keys are what indicated the maximum number of PCI-E lanes the socket can use and physically limit what drives can be installed into the socket.. A "B key" can utilize up to two PCI-E lanes while a "M key" can use up to four PCI-E lanes. Right now, however, the majority of M.2 sockets use a "M key" even if the socket only uses two PCI-E lanes. As for the drives, most PCI-E x2 drives are keyed for B+M (so they can work with any socket) and PCI-E x4 drives are keyed just for M. "

ZerockX, the XP941 is the fastest, an interface with PCIE x4 - 4 lanes of throughput vs PCIE x2 - 2 lanes of traffic - it's an up to 3x improvement in throughput.

You might want to shop around for the best price, and buy local if you can - even if it is a bit more expensive - as after sale support is easier. Make sure you get the exact return period available, usually 7/14/30 days.

There is only 1 PCIE M.2 slot in the G751JY, that we know of so far, so you will want to get the largest SSD you can afford, and stretch for a 512GB if you can.

    No with a hammer! ;)
Yes I have a laptop with a non-removal battery but I have no reason to remove it.
If that's a priority with you this laptop is not for you.
Why so fixated with removable battery?

Because someone was buying that laptop from usa then send to me,& in my region no gaming laptop covers warranty so if battery got problem
the unit is useless for me,nor i can remove the battery & run directly on adapter to save battery life, as its fixed.
