So after some hours with my G751JT, only two (small) things are annoying me:
-the plastic of the screen makes noise when you move the screen (it creacks)
-the f***** word "gamer" everywhere. The laptop's elegance covers the fact that it is massive but "gamer" ruins everything (for credibility) ^^
And i did'nt think it would be so heavy.

I so so was hoping that the 970m would be in the slim chassis..

That's model I'm planning to get too. Could you please tell us how are the temps during gaming? Some pics of HWmonitor would be appreciated. Thanks -

At least the weight is doing something practical (cooling)
now try holding a p570wm, it even feels truly heavy on your lap.

any decibels reported while gaming so far? a youtube video review or a benchmark somewhere?
MSI GT72 varied from 53db to 68db under load. How is the Asus G751 doing? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
We did a shootout of g750 vs gt72. The ratio should be similar with the g751 being quieter.

GenTechPC had these results:
ASUS G751 under load benchmarking
http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...ator-pro-gtx-980m-owner-s-lounge-g751-fan.jpg
MSI GT72 under load benchmarking
http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...ator-pro-gtx-980m-owner-s-lounge-gt72-fan.jpg
MSI GT72 under load benchmarking: Turbo Fan on
http://forum.notebookreview.com/att...pro-gtx-980m-owner-s-lounge-gt72-turbofan.jpg
So from those results we can say under the same load the MSI GT72 is actually slightly quieter than the ASUS G751 and the MSI GT72 only is louder when using the Turbo fan feature which is useful if you want to over clock but not really needed during stock settings and everything maxed out.
Both have excellent cooling systems and both are relatively quiet during gaming so either way you choose you get very good performance with no annoying loud fans when gaming.
You can't go wrong either way and it probably comes down to how each laptop handles fan profiles when stressed.
Now I'm just going by what info I can find and do not have either laptop ( I'm really torn as to which one to buy ) I would love to hear more detailed results from what you found Meaker. -
IKAS V, it isn't just the noise reading at load, it is the resulting CPU/GPU temperature from the cooling that is important to note.
What is the CPU / GPU temp at each of those 3 fan points?
The G751 doesn't have a turbo fan setting, so it needs to use it's maximum fan speed on it's own automatically. That is what you are measuring for the G751, so the only fair comparison is against the GT72 Turbo fan setting.
The partial cooling non-Turbo setting of the GT72 isn't a fair comparison against the G751
What is important to compare is the CPU/GPU temp on both laptops at their maximum cooling at maximum load. -
Hi , i'm new in this forum and this asus g751 really interested me.
But are we sure that the laptop weighs 8,4 pounds ? cause resellers and reviewers do not mention the same specs...
And asus official website say about 11 pounds for jt and jy models. -

Temps were comparable within a few degrees of each other but overall very good.
Look I'm not trying to start a war between which one is better becuase I'm really interested in both systems and trying to decide between the 2, either way the consumer wins, both are amazing laptops with phenomenal performance with each its pluses and minuses but overall they both are very good laptops so you can't really go wrong with either choice.
I'm still not sure which one to buyfabioniza likes this. -
Same here, but im preordering a JY for the IPS screen. In a war like this, for me, the best screen win. -
The lovely IPS screen is also why I'm considering the G751.

The out-of-the-box benchmark of the MSI GT72 done by GentechPC, starting minute 8:30, shows audible fan noise during heavy load which goes all the way up to 68dB when turboboost is activated. In my opinion, this is loud! Does the Asus release the same amount of noise at full fan speed? Please someone tell me it gets quieter than that while playing a cryengine 3 or unreal engine 4 game at full settings.
So far, the MSI GT72 is easier to disassemble and clean from the back at any local repair shop, unlike the G751 which needs to have its screen and keyboard removed for internal dust cleaning! That's an important point for me. -
Sorry if this is a noob question =( -
Why do you care about noise under load that much? Since MSI & ASUS is not one of Clevo laptops, they do good job under load. The critical thing for me is noise at idle or surfing on the internet or just watching a film. My G750JZ is not totally silent. Every 1 or 2 minutes fan starts to work for 10-25 seconds and then it stops. Actually It just did it while I was writing that. I am using power4gear mod and it is maximum how it can be. A laptop should be dead silent when it is idle IMO.
-
Well noise is not terribly important to me I will have noise cancelling headphones (non active - game or music) on most of the time.
Temperatures on the other hand mean a hell of a lot to me. Although I do not like to speak on others behalf, some people do not have the luxury of making to much noise. -
Turbo Fan profile is nice to have and good if you want to OC and squeeze the most performance possible out of your laptop. I do believe they mention Turbo Fan is the shown just for the worst case scenerio.
Your point about easier maintenance and cleaning of the GT72 is also one of the reasons I'm considering MSI.
Thanks to -=$rT|k3r=- for these benchmarks of the GT72 not using Turbo Fan.

I want to buy the Asus Nomad or Shuttle backpack, ( I think nomad is better). But i'm having some trouble with finding a good site that sells internationally.
P.S: buying it dierectly from asus would cost a fortune (about €170) Even if I have to get it from Canada or USA im fine if the price is lower there.
~Thanks! -
Seems to be exactly like the JY, to me...
I'm not sure weight and size will become an issue for me, I intend on taking it with me to various places so with the backpack it should be cool to carry around right? -

Yes...we need to know if only the ssd JY models come with the m2 adapter or the JT has it too

Off Topic Question here:
I've received my 512GB SATA III SSD, and decided to test it in my current machine to make sure it works and is non-defective, but I've run into an issue. In CrystalDiskMark I only get Read / Write speeds of 261MB/s / 250MB/s. (This is using the second bay of my HP ENVY 17 3D 3000 from Late 2011.)
Is it being limited by a possible SATA II quality connection, or is it the drive causing the problem? I've been having trouble finding out which connector that bay uses, and therefore cant verify if the drive is alright or not. (Though SSDLife Free reports that it has 100% health and has a expected life of 8 years and 4 months.)
Any help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Back on topic though: Thank you very much for the pics, BigDRim! Could you please post some pictures of the ports and the bays and such? I'd be very grateful. -
Asus mentions GameFirst III software for G751, yet i can not find it on their support page? Is it something built in then?
-
I opened the pc but i can't go further, my screwdrivers are too big :/
So what we can see:
(First slot) It seems to be a m.2 connector but i don't really know
And in the second (empty) slot the 2.5" caddy is there.

I have GameFirst on it.hmscott, ALLurGroceries, praetorianx and 2 others like this. -
Is there a reason why asus doesnt offer an AC wireless card?

Do you still have to remove keyboard/ screen to clean fans?

Great question.
Thats one reason that makes me hesitate to order. Easy access for maintenance.Demike likes this. -
Also check if there is screen ghosting, an ips may have that problem.

So, confirmed G751JT has an M.2 slot (hopefully wired up) and comes with the extra HDD caddy!
THANKS BigDRim!

That's referring to the screw type being used.

M2.5x5 means ISO metric size 2.5mm thread, coarse pitch, 5mm long screw.

Someone knows what is the references of the screws fixing the ssd to the metal bracket? Because Crucial doesn't give them with their ssds.
Do you think the screws of this kit will fit?

The GT72 is around 30-40dB when he is taking measurements in front of the display, which pretty much everyone does
That said, G751 should be a little more quiet than GT72. Asus knows their cooling.
But you are paying the price of not having a notebook that can be upgraded and which is not really easy to upgrade and repaste/clean -

Hi guys here is another review!ZerockX likes this. -
Well guys, I just caved in and bought the ASUS G751 with 4GB GTX980M for what I consider the great price of £1280 (EUR 1616)... even further reduced by £100 over what it was a few days ago! The PC market is crazy cheap where I live (non-EU, almost USA prices), so really happy with that purchase, considering I know the screen area really will make a difference ot my eyes and immersiveness when gaming. Additionally, the 980M will last me a fair while considering the games I play.
My only mild concerns are the 4GB VRAM which I'm hoping won't be an issue on the games I play, and just to confirm... does the laptop not support one SSD and one SATA without using a caddy?OgNat and UltimaXemnas like this.
