No words about audio? There are a lot of benchmarks and videos available... but nothing more detailed than "it's loud!" about the audio. It's also a very silent gaming laptop so I'd like to read some opinions about sound quality and power, possibly compared to MSI Dynaudio laptops...
For everything else, we already know it's a GREAT gaming notebook ;)

Anyone have any idea if XoticPC will get the G751JT-CH71 models? Also, how hard do you guys think it would be to clone the OS onto an SSD if I grabbed one and then put my own SSD in? I don't really feel like the extra cash would be well spent getting the m2 SSDs, otherwise I'd go with their current model on XoticPC. It's jus tway cheaper to buy my own SSD and put it in afterwards.

My other concern is the battery. I'm wary of a laptop where the battery cannot be replaced, as from my experience, laptop batteries are really bad and I really don't want to be glued to a wall if the battery starts failing. I'm getting this laptop for game development so the mobility is important to me (but I don't care about weight enough to get something slimmer)

Also from your experiences, how's the market for re-selling ASUS laptops? I'm likely to need to replace it after two years or so, would it hold it's value in decent manner?

Hey guys, quick (possibly stupid) question. Will the Asus G751 have SATA III for all its drive bays? (Or at least the primary bay?)

I've recently bought myself my first solid state drive, a 512GB Crucial SATA III SSD - but I've been having a problem. It's rated to get up to 550MB/s Read & Write speeds, but according to CrystalDiskMark I only get up to 260MB/s on my current machine. (An HP ENVY 17 3D 3000 from late 2011)

I'm assuming it's because my machine uses SATA II, but I've been having trouble proving/disproving that. Is there any software I can use to check the SATA ports on my computer? Is there a possibility the drive is defective, or is it more likely that it's connected to a SATA II port?

You can download sissoft sandra, it will let you look at your hardware and tell you what SATA version you have.

Anybody know why the Canadian model ( Asus G751JY-DH73-CA ) cost 2199$ CAD with the same spec than the US ( Asus G751JY-DH71 ) cost $2499 USD ??

Well - from what I've been able to gather, my HP has:
    • 1 SATA III Port (Bay 1, OS Drive)
    • 1 SATA II Port (Bay 2, Data Drive)
    • 1 SATA 1.5 Port (Optical Drive)

Does that match up with this information?

    SATA Specs copy.jpg

I've tried placing the SSD in Bay 1, but I'm unable to change the boot order to use Bay 2, so I cannot test it that way. Using an even slower USB 3.0 -> SATA 1.5 Transfer cable leads to results of 32 MB/s read and write speeds. (Unsure if that helps)

According to Sandra, it looks like your SATAIII drive is running in SATAII mode. SATAIII is 600, SATAII is 300

Could be a BIOS setting, or an SSD/SATA version compatibility issue maybe.

I'm not much a of a laptop guy btw, this would be my first gaming laptop I'm purchasing, only for gamedev on the go really. I'm build my own desktops though so I'll impart whatever knowledge I have :)

I have been reading alot about this latest edition to the ROG series and read some reviews and there doesnt seem to be any negativity towards it. It seems its out in the states but I could be mistaken, but is there any indication when it will be released in the UK?

The SSD wasn't in there when i did the test, and I cannot test it in the OS drive bay (Bay 1) because the BIOS will not allow me to boot from the drive in Bay 2. (Meaning I cant get into windows and run CrystalDiskMark while the SSD is in Bay 1)

Though if what you're saying is correct, it indeed means that the SSD is only being held back by the fact that it's in a SATA II bay, correct? When it's placed in the SATA III bay on my G751, it will run at full speed?

I would assume so, barring any compatibility issues. If the drive is supposed to be SATAIII and doesn't run at SATAIII speeds then I'd say its defective

So yes, basically what happens is this:

SATA III drives run at SATA II speeds when put into a SATA II connection. If you plug the same drive into a SATA III connector it should get the right speeds.

I hope you're both right, and the SATA II port is all that is holding it back. It'll be too late to return it by the time I receive the G751, hence why I'm panicking so much.

Regardless - thank you very much for your help, all I can do now is hope I guess!

Apologies - I should have moved it to PM. It's done now.

    Again, I apologize.

Just thought I'd let people know that the G751 is cheap in Canada. I just bought mine for $2200 Canadian. If you live in the states, it could be worth driving up and getting it here, since it's about $1950 USD. Not sure why the price discrepancy (Xotic has it as $24XX USD), but it's there.

Secondly, does anyone know if it would be worth getting a warranty for this? I'm usually a desktop gamer, and never really bothered. But my last laptops (Dell M1710) video card crapped out, but it was replaceable. I believe this one is not.

That is really cheap for this laptop. Dont know how much it will cost to ship to the UK but I imagine it will be alot. Here in the UK I guess it will cost alot whenever it is released.

It's weird though - if you want the 970M version without an SSD, it's $400 MORE here in Canada than the same thing down in the states.

I'm not sure how Asus planned their pricing, but I don't think they thought it through.

I think it has more to do with how there's more models in the States then there are in Canada. Is there any $1,499 Nvidia 970M Equipped model here in Canada?

The $1,499 model at NCIX is a pathetic 860M equipped G751J M. (Unlike the G751JT-CH71 from the states)

What size is the Optical Drive they use on it? 12.7mm or 9.5mm? (I plan on getting mine with a Caddy, hence why I need to know.)

To those who have a G751 already, what size is the optical drive?

I need to know if I should get a 12.7mm or 9.5mm Optical HDD Caddy.

I'm also interested to hear if any Canadian company will be selling the $1,499 970M G751JT-CH71.

I pre-ordered a G751JT-DH72 from gentech today. I had a good experience with my old G73 and I wanted another 17inch laptop. I don't think I need the 980m so this model makes sense for me.

No no last week I opened up my laptop (Lenovo cheapie) and I see that writing too this is only a reference of the screw hole and its head size, yes it does have an M2 slot (as per linus tech tips video) but no that "M2 5x5" is not referring to that.

so it sounds like ill be ordering the g751 from xotic as the aussie market still hasnt got them. As long as the asus warranty wont be waiting weeks to get parts from the US. I can confirm it is going to be available in australia, so i dont see warranty repairs taking weeks to get parts from the US since the same model will be in australia.

can anyone confirm on the global warranty ? @XoticPC @gentechPC ??

I might buy the G751JY-T7022H. What I don't yet know is the screen type + quality and if it's easy to replace the WIFI module with an 802.11AC variant. I would vastly prefer AC instead of N in WIFI, but am also unsure of where to buy and the type of antenna(s) built into the laptop.
Anywhere already a teardown of the G751JY?

Thunderbolt is there on the G751JT.

And i put a Crucial SSD, crystaldiskmark says 270mb/s in slot 2 and 512mb/s in slot 1. I think this is clear.

    Hi guys,

I'm new to these forums, and I've been reading all the 65 pages so far :)
I've got an old Samsung laptop, and I can't wait upgrading with a great device like the G751 with IPS screen. Though I don't play, I use quite heavy photo software, many opened at the same time, and I've been suffering so much with my current PC that I wish a number one!!

I've bought an Asus N750 in January, that I returned pronto as RMA, because of the lame screen, that had a very grainy aspect. This apparently happens quite often, due to the matte coating, some people are sensitive, some not.

So a quick question to the lucky owners of the G751 : could you please verify whether the screen looks grainy?

You can easily check this : the aspect is like tiny colourful dots spaced out all over the screen on light colour (white, blue sky, pale faces...).

Thanks a bunch for your time ;)

    SWEET JUMPING GRANDMA!!

I am so freaking tempted right now, you don't even know. I have three problems though:

. From the picture they posted there, it looks like the G750. It's probably an error though, but any chance they send you a G750 instead of a G751? xD
. The keyboard must come with a different layout than Portugal right? I know this is probably a stupid question, but is there a way to change the keys in any way so it has the Portuguese (PT) layout?
. I've gotta wait a while till I have all the money required in my hand, you think this price will last long?

It is a little bit (for yellow and blue espacially) but it really depends of the picture. Windows wallpaper are heavily affected but otherwise i didn't notice anything most of the time.

Hello partner, how is the Algarve? :)
I don't think they could replace the keyboard to PT.
One of my biggest concerns is the price.. I think is to low.
BTW, I sent an email to minfo.pt asking questions about the G751 and they said that the model name is wrong, the layout keybord is PT and there is no availability at the moment, only in november.

VAT in Switzerland is at 7 or 8 % so i think (not sure) that if you import from there, you will have to add extra VAT to make it be the same as in your country. e.g. in France VAT is at 20% so you will have to add something like 12% of the Swiss price.

Do you know which stores in Canada are selling the G751 at the price you stated? I have friends there and I could ask them to check it. Thanks.
