BigDRim, it sounds like their many year deal with Cyberlink expired... let me send an email or two and see if I can get a better answer![]()

Aorus X7 Pro Power, Battery Life, Efficiency
"The X7 Pro bumps up against input power limits when both GPUs are enabled. We were able to test maximum CPU load and maximum GPU load, but any attempt to fully load all three components resulted in pronounced throttling."
Review: Aorus X7 Pro - Laptop - HEXUS.net - Page 9
"The laptop's gaming credentials are excellent, there's no doubt about that, but Aorus's relentless pursuit of speed has left room for improvement in other areas. Battery life is still lacking, CPU throttling remains an issue, and fan noise is as prominent as ever."
It's not really a surprise that fitting all that hot hardware into a too small physical package would end up throttling performance.
Also, you can't fire off rounds from an AR from your couch, but you can fire off rounds in a game on your Laptop from your couch

And, thanks in advance hmscott.
I bought a blue ray software player from Aieesoft (I forget the name at the moment). But, the blue rays I chose did not seem to play unless connected to the internet; furthermore, I didnt realize the Aieesoft Blu ray player ONLY plays blue rays. So, I had to download VLC to play DVDs. And, while I applaud the folks behind VLC, the end result still seems far short of a good commercial Blue ray and DVD software player. So, I am very much hoping ASUS responds favorably. -
Last time I looked, after trying all the other options, Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultimate was still the best - lessor of evils - all of them need to update their encryption keys - new installs all need to download an update - and updates are frequent as new blockbuster movies release on Blur-ray. It is just the way the system works, totally connected - unlike DVD's.
VLC is workable, but you have to be willing to dig through the raw files to find the right start blob, and figure out what other blobs match and in what order to play them... not non-technical user friendly.
Update: VLC won't natively support even playback of the video files from an AACS encrypted Blu-ray, or do menus, better stick with the commercially available products for now.Last edited: Dec 4, 2014 -
The other thing is where I rest my hand to play WASD style, the keyboards flexes and squeaks a bit when pressure is applied. On the side where the numpad is, there is no squeaking or flex at all, and it feels sturdy. I can take one finger and press every few seconds on the left side next to caps lock and create a squeaking symphony.
Today I also noticed that one of my usb ports is not working. Have not got to troubleshooting that yet. Windows just says that "there is something wrong with the device you connected" no matter what it is, and the device always works just fine in every other port. -
Yes exactly, I sent it as DOA because I thought they will send me a new one but unfortunately they did not have any more in stock ... It's all right i work in the computer shop and can get one from official distribution for even better price. I contacted our product manager and he said to me that they will come by the end of the week plus few days for logistic and will be available for purchase 10.11.2014 and second wave will come 17.11.2014. -

Could anybody with a unit, Windows 8.1 and a WIFI compatible TV test if you can add the TV as a second screen?
Here is the manual on how to add a second WIFI screen: Project to a wireless display with Miracast - Windows Help (the first part "To add a wireless display to your PC"). -
Idle fan noise when web browsing and low load stuff would be my main concern. 970m sli seems too good to pass up for me if both are in the same price range. -
It seems that a basic requirement for highest performance by the SLI 970m's will also require feeding the CPU the power it requires and not be throttled at the very point it is most needed, at high demand / load of the 970m SLI.
I think the next generation Aorus, with a new frame and support hardware (power) would be the one to get excited about. -
For the current gen games the cpu and Gpus won't even be close to the load that prime and furmark puts on them. -
Try BF4. It's can stress CPU and GPU very aggressively.
-
If the AORUS didn't have such loud fans It would be right up there with other laptops I'm considering buying.
One thing that really turns me off is excessively loud fans, fortunately there are other laptops with 980M's to consider. They might not have the same performance as 970M's in SLI but close enough without having to deal with issues that SLI has like micro stuttering and screen tearing. -
What the heck.
Update from Vietnam: "The shipment on mid November cancelled, ETA now is end December" - ASUS employee
That's what i get after 2 months of waiting xD -

I think that's a french SKU so it will yes.

I can't imagine getting a product I know fails under load like that...it is an instant pass. I am hoping they will fix that in the next design. For now the testing shows a problem with the design so I can wait. I doubt Aorus planned it that way.
And, I am ok with SLI as you can disable one of the GPU's for applications that don't perform well with SLI.
I wouldn't want to encourage manufacturers to ship products that can't deliver full performance, and resort to throttling to run. -

Depends on the level of load required to do that, I rarely sit and play furmark

Im finding it pretty crazy that the MSI GT72 980m is £400+ more expensive at £1999 starting price where as the G751 is around £1550. Am I missing something here?
That's a big difference, anyone here know what Overclockers UK christmas sales are like? Any owners having any other major issues with the machine than that speaker incident a page back. -

Update on the audio rattling/buzz thing. Some tests with a sine wave showed that the rattle/buzz happens most at the 300-500 hz range peaking at about 400hz. It comes from the left side of the palm-rest area, where incidentally the CD drive is located. I tried padding up the CD drive to see if it would help, but it didn't seem to do much. It looks like theres something else in there that causes the noise, and I am not prepared to pull my laptop apart just yet.

Don't forget to power off and unplug the laptop from AC - you can't pull out the battery, but check the manual for the G751 - available from support.asus.com - search for g751 and download the manual in your favorite language and look at the adding memory / disk and see if they mention any cable internally to disconnect to disconnect the internal battery. If there isn't such a cable, don't sweat it Asus likely have a relay disconnecting the power from the motherboard when powered off - the power switch enables the connection again.
On my G750 there is the Realtek Audio Manager => Audio Wizard => with 2 sliders in the equalizer you could use to de-emphasize the band around the resonance frequency to reduce the effect till you get a chance to work on tightening the insides.
Did you try putting in a DVD/BD/CD into the Optical drive to see if that stops the buzzing? -
So after 3 months since I sold my first notebook, the Asus N56V series I finally bought a gaming notebook: Asus G751Y-DH73-CA
I bought it from DirectCanada and here's what I found after having this laptop for a few days.
SCREEN: This is my first time using an IPS screen. It's very pleasant to look at it, the colors are so vivid. At the beginning I was concerned about ghosting on IPS panels, but I haven't noticed anything that bothers when playing the game. It is just gorgeous and very bright.
KEYBOARD: It is very pleasant to to type and I liked the red backliting. Since I use it with the lights of my bedroom turned on, there's no need to turn the backlit on. I can't comment much on the trackpad because I'm using a mouse, but it is very responsive too.
SOUND: I found it to be very good. The eye bass does the job in delivering a good bass. At the maximum volume I didn't notice any distortion or lack of quality while playing my musics. I still prefer my headphone though
PERFORMANCE: So far I've only played World of Warcraft and Heroes of Newerth. Both games run maxed out with 100+ FPS. I've also installed GTA 4 for performance tests. I can play it maxed out too, but as we all know how badly optimized this game is for PC, in some areas of the city I could see my FPS dropping below 30. I've noticed that by only decreasing view distance and detail distance to around 20 it runs at full FPS again, lol.
TEMPERATURE and NOISE LEVEL: This notebook runs very cool and quiet even at load. Playing wow temps were max 54 C for CPU and 50C for the GPU. For HoN temps were max 60 for the CPU and 50C for the GPU. Only for the GTA 4 the CPU temp was about 76C and 69C GPU.
I'm using wireless connection and the wifi is getting good signal. As someone has reported before I also had problems to get a connection at the windows setup.
Two things that I've notice so far is first, on the right side of the screen the bezel is slightly loose. Have someone else noticed this too?
Another thing is my that "x" key is making a different sound, a louder sound when I press it and this is annoying me a little bit. Looking straight down I can see it misaligned with the other keys. I popped it out and switched with the "c" key just see if the problem was on the key itself or the clip the holds the key. The problem is on the key itself. What should I do? I am thinking in setting up a RMA and see if they can ship me a replacement key. If not I will just send the notebook back. Too bad, because I'm enjoying it so muchZerockX likes this. -
Demike, actually the noise of the X button is intended engineering. It's a reminder that you shouldn't watch it too much, better get a gf instead.
Btw what's your ambient temp?Richdog likes this. -
Hahaha! Just like I said, Amazon has updated my order and it is now being delivered on the 6th, this Thursday.
Hopefully I don't have any issues with the machine like I've been seeing others have here - I'll probably go pick it up on Friday and check it while I'm still in the states. Wish me luck!praetorianx, Cakefish, dazzy123 and 2 others like this. -
Come on guys, considering the temps are so great I'm not seeing a lot of overclocking action on that 980M...

. Anyway, you're right, I don't use the X button ver often, but now it starting to stick on the frame. For all other keys there are little gaps around them, except on the bottom of the X key. I kinda fix the sound, but the key sticking is worst. Here's a picture

Head for a local fixer, it should be an easy case for them. If it was me, i would go nuts and send for RMA xD -
I wouldn't say MSI pricing is a joke if you configure both laptops with similar hardware the price is much cheaper for MSI here.
You guys are lucky finding/getting such cheap prices for the G751.praetorianx likes this. -
For £2300 I can buy Clevo 980M SLI notebook with i7 4810MQ/16GB RAM/512GB SSD -
I have narrowed down my choice to the G751, GT72 and P35X v3.
Could anyone tell me if the CPU and GPU throttles when under heavy load?
For anyone who has the G751 can you tell me the pros and cons of the laptop please? Thanks. -
I'd prefer something that doesn't throttle in any situation of course. That's the trade off for a thin form factor and two beasts inside...it's gonna get hot. I like how the Aorus tries to push the envelope in performance and form factor.Cakefish likes this. -
When you get yours, please post all the details -
I'm still undecided hmscott. I'm gonna wait on user reviews and see what they say about it.

Gentlemen, can someone please confirm that this SSD should fit in the G751?
Samsung 840 Evo 500GB https://shop.mediamarkt.ch/de/compu...samsung-840-evo-mz-7te500-500-gb/idp9m8ob6hk3
Width: 10 cm
Height: 0.68 cm
Depth 6.98 cm
Weight 53 g
Seems like a good upgrade at 180EUR, so if it fits I will get that. -
SAMSUNG 840 EVO "Laptop Kit", 500GB https://shop.mediamarkt.ch/de/compu...samsung-840-evo-laptop-kit-500gb/idpumsw3yksq
Width 6.99 cm
Height 0.68 cm
Depth 10 cm
Weight 53 g
The main difference (other than the laptop kit extras, of which I'm not fully sure of the point) seems to be the depth, which is 10cm... -
Just buy the normal model.Samsung never made SSD with 10cm depth. Might be an error with listing.

The laptop kit contains an usb-sata adapter plus a software to clone the system drive to the ssd and then use the old system drive as an usb-disk. It's very useful if you want to exchange your old system drive with a ssd without reinstalling everything.
