With todays tools and Windows 7 and newer it doesn't really matter anymore. So cloning is fine by now.

Sorry for repeating myself but I really would like feedback from owners of the G751.
Would anyone tell me if the CPU and GPU throttles when under heavy load?
Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of the laptop please?
Again apologies for repeating myself. Thanks.

I'd really love to know the SATA speeds for the 751JT

ASUS forums say that only one of the bays is SATA III and the other one (where the 7200 RPM drive is) is SATA II.

I'm thinking of replacing the 7200 RPM for an SSD, but I'm unsure about getting a 751 if this is the case, as I'd hate to be stuck with an SSD not performing at its full potential

All of these questions have been answered in the thread. Do a search within the thread for "throttling" and "heat" and just spend some time reading the thread in general, as well as reading online reviews and also the Youtube video reviews. There is tons of material out there, and no reason why everyone here should have to re-write the same stuff over and over. :)

Hey folks.. Just wanted to say thanks to all those who contributed to this epic thread. After reading through the whole thing (!) I decided to bite the bullet and order the G751JY - for those in Canada, got it from Direct Canada at $2143 + tax. Think the price has gone up a bit now (I had the tab open in my iPad for a few days, so I managed to sneak in an order at that price), but it says they have stock in Vancouver (I'm in Toronto) and my order has been processed. Just waiting for shipping confirmation.

Here's hoping I avoid some of the reported early-model issues reported here...

Edit: DC seems to have that price again. Best I've seen for that model.

I have watched some reviews and read comments and it seems people are saying the laptop is really bulky and the build quality isn't good and could even break.
Would any one care to comment on this and prove what's been stated as false?
    Thanks.

BigDRim, are you sure that is a SATA II port, several others have established it is a SATA III, it helps if you post the model-configuration with your post so we know which one(s) are thought to be SATA II in the 2nd bay.

That is actually a better throughput rate for the 1TB disk than we saw in the G750, pretty much max speed posted was in the high 80's, I get 89/89MB/sec for the 1TB in the 2nd bay of my G750JH, but when I put in a Samsung 840 Pro 512GB I get 500/500MB/sec, and it shows as a SATA III port. I use hwinfo inventory pane to look at the interface speed @ current active speed - it gives both potential and actual throughput.

Rico21745, there have been posts of SATA III speeds in the 2nd bay as well, but for some reason, people don't list the model-configuration ID, so it's hard to say which has the SATA III and if there really is only a SATA II in some models of the G751, I find it hard to believe myself - Asus is better than that. The SATA III ports are there and available in the chipset, why limit it to SATA II?

Yeah, I bought mine from DC too, paid $2090 + tax. They had this price only at the beginning when it was first listed.
I wish you best luck with yours, mine came almost perfect except for the "X" key that came off centred and was causing it to stick a little bit when pressed. The bezel on the right size of the screen was also slightly loose, but I don't see that as an issue at all.

A public announcement if you're in the market for a kick SSD. Samsung 840 Pro 512GB SATA II for $269.99. Use Coupon Code: "EMCWWPD86" to drop it another $10. Expires 11/12

I already have one and might pick another one up at that price.

I have a G751JY-DH72X. The HDD bay is definitely SATA II, not III. I used Intels Rapid Storage Technology driver to check as it is usually most accurate. The included 1TB HDD is a SATA6 model, but but is only running at SATA3. To confirm, I put in a 512GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD. Same result, it is only running at SATA3. I have no idea why Asus did this.

I came over a website that had the ASUS G751JY in store. That version with 4710HQ, 980M, 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD and 16GB of ram.
There was 1 left and the price was ridiculous low! It cost me $2045..!!! Not bad considering this is a laptop that usually cost about $2615 in my country. I later found out that the website had set the pricing wrong.. 3 hours later they had corrected the prices. I literally robbed them in broad daylight!.. Cheap as fuaark! ^^

Would that be in Denmark by any chance ? :)

I found a cheap 1 as well on dustin.dk - Bit lower then everyone else.. They even had a G751JT priced wrong :D

Sadly the last one got sold, just as I was placing my order, so now I have to wait a week or so..

Heey guys, I live in the netherlands and saw this gem in germany: ASUS G751JY-T7061H

This is the High-End JY I think. Does anybody ( maybe people from germany) know if they also have the low end Laptop? Cause going over there to buy it would be way cheaper than in my own country!
Can't wait till I have my own..

I am picking up my G751 tomorrow and I am planning to test it in a coffee shop for about an hour or so before taking it home. I don't want to drive more than an hour to my pickup location, drive home, then realize things don't work. (I've seen quite a few QC issues with this release.)

    Among those issues, I've seen:
    • Dead Pixels in the center of the screen.
    • Improper thermal pasting jobs leading to temps of 110 when gaming.
    • Fizzy Sounding, Punched In, Disconnected, and Loose Fitting Speakers.
    • Improperly placed keyboard keys. (Leading to clicking problems)
    • Broken Trackpad Buttons, Misaligned Trackpads. (With Palmrest)
    • etc.
Are there any portable utilities I can use to test how high the GPU temps will get at load? (Something to put on a USB stick, then quickly copy onto the machine and run) Would the Unigine Heaven / Valley Benchmarks work?

The other tests I can do with a video, music, or physical check, but the GPU temp check is a bit more complicated.

    Any help is appreciated.

Use HwInfo to monitor CPU/gpu temps. You don't need to install. When you start the application select sensor only mode.

Thing is the issue only arises when gaming (leading to temps of over 110) - using only HWINFO won't stress it at all.

I need to see if the laptop cools properly, without having to wait and download a full game on coffee shop internet.

Use HWiNFO to monitor temps. Use prime 95 to stress the CPU (install not required), heaven benchmark to stress the GPU (install required)

If you run prime95 and furmark for 15-20min you can expect maximum heat. Not recommend running furmark for more than that. Make sure to take screen shots so others can know the maximum heat.

With Furmark + Prime95 Less than 90°C is ok, but around 85°C is ideal in my view.

    My clovo p150sm with oc'ed 780m going up to 85°c (CPU/GPU) with furmark + prime 95

Yes. That way you can know the maximum heat output. Don't run it more than 15min or if you see GPU or CPU temp going above 92°C

Do it as a one off run. Don't run it regularly.

    Got it, thanks.

I've heard from people that Furmark can damage the GPU - would it be better to run the Heaven or Valley Benchmarks in its place, along with Prime?

Furmark can damage the GPU, not the CPU. One off 15min run is fine. I did to all my gpu's. However don't do it every time when you want to check the temp. Heaven is good for everyday use.
