I will try and use it somewhere else doing the weekend.. Might be because of the wall reflecting the sound like someone said.
I contacted the retailer about the CPU - They said it was a bit high and offered to RMA it. Perhaps I should just do that.. And wait 2-3 weeks on getting it back![]()
-
Yes, do it. Probaly because of bad pasting job, should be fixed with the RMA
-
Does anyone know the type of the default 256 GB SSD Asus is installing next to the 1 TB HDD in the G751JY laptops ?
-
I've been reading about i7-4710HQ and it seems to handle temperatures up to 100c as max!
So.. RMA or not @ 81-85c ? -
85°C is fine.
-
Just got my G751JY and I got to say... The speakers on this thing is awful. The fact that they placed the speakers at the bottom of the laptop doesn't help neither...
I had ASUS G73JH before this laptop and that one had much better speakers. The bass and the sound quality was really good, and that laptop is over 4 years old. The G751JY lacks alot of bass.. disappointing.
It is also heavy, but that didn't come as a shock.
That being said, this laptop is fast as popsicles!!Can't wait to test out some more games. Just played DayZ: Standalone so far and it runs smooth!
Does anybody have know about a program to test the temps? Would like to see how hot it gets while gaming. -
If your sound is coming from the bottom of the laptop, that's not right.
If no sound is coming from the back (left and right sides of the hinge), then you've got the same problem me and some others do. -
Lol another one?
-
Not sure if my speakers or working like they should or not, doesn't feel like there is a lot of sound coming from the right side of it..
That being said.. There is NO BASS at all!
My G75VX actually had some good quality sound when playing without headset. -
FALSE ALARM EVERYBODY!!.. There is an app called ROG AudioWizard. In that app you can controll how much bass you want and some other stuff. I tried it and the sound got alot better.
There is sound coming from the bottom and from under the screen. I think there is speakers built in under the screen and above the keyboard. I can't see them, but hear them. -
Turned the crap off and everything was back to normal - Just the way I like it! -
Tried it for my problem, no dice.
-
Does anybody know how to turn off the red light "Republic of gamers" logo at the back of the screen on G751JY, like permanently?
I know it is possible to turn off and on the light on the keyboard, so should be able to turn off that light too... anyone? -
I spoke to someone at Asus and I asked them whether their laptops had international warranty and they said they did. What I am confused about is I got told you couldnt get international warranty on the G751 if bought outside of your country. Now the information I was given from the person is that incorrect?

You need to move the laptop so the exhaust vents aren't facing the wall, both for sound reflections and hot exhaust air reflections, directing hot air back toward the laptop air intakes under the laptop..
The worst case is if you have the desk up against the wall in a corner, over time the hot air will collect behind the laptop, eventually coming back toward the laptop intake vents pulling in heated air, adding to the CPU temp.
I resolved this by turning my desk around and exhaust heat toward the center of the room, away from the wall. If you can't move the desk, move the laptop around on the desk and try to angle the laptop such that the rear vents are exhausting heat to open space to the side of the desk.
If you are still getting sound reflections, you can put sound absorbing layers under and behind the laptop to reduce the reflections. -
Just played BF4.
CPU temp was allways around 50-55 celcius while GPU was around 48-52 celcius. Played on Ultra. The wierd thing was that it showed 29-30 FPS constantly. I used Fraps.. I would think that BF4 can do more than just 30FPS?
I have G751JY. 980m, 16gb memory, 256GB SSD, 4710 CPU... -
View attachment 117714
I started at 50%, listening at high volume, checking for subwoofer distortion, and now. I run at 65%. -
Check if your power plan is Battery Saving, or u playing unplugged. With that temp and that FPS, you using about 50% horse power. -
Okay, so with all the issues going on on this thread I was growing a bit apprehensive about my early order for the 751. Given that my last experience with an ASUS early launch, the G73JH was less than stellar, there was some reason to be after seeing some of these posts. But, as luck would have it, my JT-71CH arrived from Amazon a-okay and I can report all is well so far. .
Pros:
* The screen is best of all screens we have in the house including the ASUS G73JH, ASUS 750 (model with 860M - worst screen), Alienware M17XR4 7970M FHD hands down. Great color, great viewing angle and overclocks to 72Hz with no problems (might try higher later, but this seems fine so far really)
* The single HD was actually quite fast. Much better than even the upgraded 7200 rpm one in the 750. Still swapped it out for a SSD though, because even faster is better! And I had it already on hand. If you don't have a SSD though, you might be reasonably happy with the mech HD depending on how impatient you are, I would give it a try first.
* Build Quality: Good, but Alienware feels a bit more solid with less flex and such
* Noise and temps: Very good so far will try prime 95 with Heaven later tonight. But Heaven alone was 64C with highest settings, except normal tesselation.
* 970M: A beast! Makes my old Alienware's 7970M seem like a mid range card, which I guess it pretty much is now come to think of it.
So So:
* I am not a fan of the keyboard versus say the Alienware, and prefer white to the red lighting for sure. It is okay feel wise. A bit of getting used to the small esc key though which is kind of scrunched up with the function keys to make room for the special ASUS keys.
* Track pad. I guess it works reasonably well. Thankfully however, I will normally use the mouse as the trackpad mouse buttons seem kinda tinny feeling. If I were a business user, this might even flirt with the poor column if I were expecting to be flying a lot or what have you.
* Audio, is actually is fairly clear even when loud for both treble and bass. I would call this good (for a lappy) but it does however seem to make a sort of quiet hiss-click hiss-click when ever it is first activated in a game, or sometimes even browsing of all things. No idea here. I guess that makes it a So So for this feature till I can figure that out.
* Networking. It seems to work okay. I am getting drops in LoL, but that is the same for every PC in the house. And I have had no drops or bad throughput / ping on anything else. Did come with the latest drivers, so that may help versus some of the issues that a few were reporting
Poor:
* Unable to buy an equivalent model through a notebook reseller like PowerNotebooks for even close to the price. I greatly prefer this route, not only for the pre-check, but also so I could get a 3 year ASUS warranty. However, at $400+ dollars difference for a small SSD for the equivalent DH model? It just was not going to happen
* Too bling for a "Stealth" inspired notebook. Red lid light and bright red rear vent colors. Go back to black and no light, thank you much.
* Finish: Oh it is decent enough... But it is already looking like it will be a grease/dirt/scrunge magnet on day two.
Over all I am very happy so far. The Poor rated stuff is pretty minor for the most part compared to the good, that is for sure.hmscott, praetorianx, Demike and 1 other person like this. -

Anyone feel like starting a G751 owners' lounge? The only requirement is an informative first post.
ASUS Reviews and Owners' Lounges -
I was quite worried when my furmark+prime95 tests were 90 degrees-CPU and 70 for GPU and it got worse when max for CPU was 91 and GPU 69 for heaven + prime95.
So, thought I would try out Battlefield 4.
Played for 3 hours on Ultra settings and best part was the fps remained 51-60 mostly 55 (used v-sync like someone sugge. Here are the temps for three hours
The fan makes very little sound on the CPU side, can be heard only when I mute the sound of the game.
Please let me know if these are too bad. (Will try to send to ASUS for repasting job)
Just like SoulMisaki my speakers are really bad, the sound comes mostly from subwoofer. (any suggestions about third party drivers would be great)
About the Speakers I didn't notice until today(was using headphones or earphones since I got the laptop)
The home and game center keys were little off - make sound when being pressed (adjusted now after pressing them several times)
Overall awesome laptop and for now I can't see anything that would give me trouble in the long run.
Oh btw the graphic card is already oc'ed by 5% for some reason.
Was reviewing older posts and came across the wireless adapter problems. I have none so far, I updated to 17.1 driver as soon as i connected to the internet.
Gives me actual download speed of 9mbps to 17mbps on 5Ghz wifi (crappy default twc modem) for 300mbps internet and 12 mbps to 30 mbps for rthernet connection. (making roomies more jealous with these wifi speeds) -
Guys, I have a big problem!!
On the 256GB SSD version of G751JY, they have partition the SSD and HDD in half, meaning there is not enough space on the partition with OS to innstall Battlefield 4 including expansion packs and other games. I can't change the installation folder for BF4 neither.. :/ It has to be innstalled on C:
I don't understand why they split up the SSD in the first place..
Screenshot of how it looks like:
So here's my question; Is it possible to combine the two SSD partitions without having to re-install windows?
I really don't want to delete everything on the SSD just to put the to half's together.... -
Go to storage management delete the empty partition and make your c drive encompass/expand it.
-
Your problem is very easy to solve:
To put the partitions together right click on windows on the bottom left corner and choose disk management. You'll see the partitons listed, for your case right click on partition D: and either srink it or format it to get free space in your ssd. After ther you go to partition C: to expand it. -
Thanks!!
It worked! So happy I didn't have to re install windows
-
Your BF4 temps are low, and likely more like the load you will experience, so that looks good too.
Did you update to BIOS 204 yet? Some have reported that they get lower temps after updating. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Considering how much BF4 loads CPU and GPU those temps look fine to me.

What should I do to make the laptop perform even better? Any updates of any kind I need to install? How do I clock the graphic card?
The only thing I have done so far is updated the Nvidia driver and combined the two SSD partitions. -
-
Has anyone tried overclocking their G751JT? with the 970m? The only thing I could find about this was by cowcot TV where they overclocked to max possible i guess : +135 for GPU and +350 for memory or vRAM.
-
-
You have to change the vbios on the card to go over that limit.

So I got mine today, nervous that the AC7260 would ruin the party.
AND OFC IT DID.
Entered the wireless password during the first windows logon, and it said that it wasn't able to connect me to the internet.
After I skipped that step I was finally able to get online, but my download speed has dropped from my normal 2 mb/s to 250kb/s and I get huge lagspikes and disconnects.
Thanks intel for making such a stellar piece of steaming junk like the AC7260.
Is this card user replaceable or should I just RMA the whole laptop? -
It gets much better once you manage to install the latest drivers for it. Try using Ethernet to download them.
-
I tried the latest drivers, no difference whatsoever. I have also tried all the suggested hotfixes, and both 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands. No use.
I wonder what clown at Asus decided to go with intel instead of killer or broadcom.
Money saving perhaps? -
Funnily enough, they also have Killer & Broadcom options on their Wifi Driver Support Section for this laptop.
It seems ASUS is intent on marketing us great machines with sh*t QC and software - I'm going to be without a machine for around a month because of the issues I've been having with mine.
UGH...Demike likes this. -
-
asus sounded so good on paper. too bad they have no QC. GG
-
My Wifi works great. Top speed. 50mbit download and 12mbit upload.
Does anybody have problem with utorrent on G751JY? Utorrent keep crashing on mine.. I don't know why :/ I have tried BitTorrent and it is the same.. -
-
Guys... For someone waiting for its availability, it's a nightmare you guys are giving me lol. But it's ok for i will know what to do if mine get any of those issues. Looks like Asus QC pretty sucks.

Is there somebody smart here who have figured out a way to turn off the logo light at the back of the screen? Don't ask why...
Can I do it through BIOS or software? Or do I have to open up the screen and disable the electric wire? -
-
Is the logo light from the screen itself or does the logo has its own light? -
is there any way to disable the shadowplay/steam button on the keyboard? havent found anything on it

The warranty is dependent on the part number and retailer you purchase from. The only way to know for sure is to communicate with the seller.
