You can get 3 year global warranty if you order thru resellers like XoticPC , PowerNotebooks, or Gentech. Don't know who else offers it.

Wireless cards are cheap, it's a shame it's a bit tricky on this model to change it.

Im finding that my panel has quite noticeable "IPS glow" compared to my old laptop IPS panel... quite noticeable on dark scenes. Anyone else finding this?

Hope this doesn't go too much off-topic...

Does anyone game with screen lid closed via TV? My current laptop messes with settings (no workaround, I wont go details... please believe me) and gets much hotter when lid is fully closed.

Also, planning to buy SSD separately. Hopefully anyone hasnt had any issues with certain brands/models? Only worrying since I vaguely remember some previous Asus models being bit difficult in that sense...

    GOOD NEWS GUYS!

Before I left home for work I Googled someone with a similar issue and managed to fix my initial throughput problems.

    The solution was this... https://communities.intel.com/thread/47426?start=15&tstart=0

Basically on your router you need to "Enable WMM (Wi-Fi multimedia) settings" in the QoS section on your router settings (mine is Netgear 6300, maybe yours is in a different place).

I now get the full internet connection speed that my Wireless N-equipped laptop gets!

However, what I have not tested yet is if I will get through Wireless AC throughput between my router and my laptop, or if the Intel settings page now states that I am connecting at AC speeds.

However, this is already a BIG improvement! :D

So it wasn't the Intel chip fault. Poor Intel for the blaming.

it most certainly IS an issue specific to this Intel chip... all of my other laptops are 100% fine without this setting enabled. ;)

It still Intel's fault. You don't need that to enable with other cards.

bigspin, actually WMM is like the #2 thing to check when trying to fix throughput issues. The 802.11n spec requires WMM (802.11e) for N speed support,

Wireless Network Speed Tweaks - as good an explanation as any :)
SG :: Wireless Network Speed Tweaks

You need WMM enabled in your router to get the best throughput with Apple products:

Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network - Apple Support

The #1 thing to check is the correct encryption, WPA-2 / AES must be set to enable faster than G speeds.

Fast Wi-Fi's little secret - you have to turn on WPA2 encryption - Blogs - Techworld.com

Those are the two most likely miss-configured router options when moving to 802..11n

They aren't Intel's fault, Intel is only following the 802.11n specification requirements.

The driver and router firmware updates are the most important first things to check. Check directly on the router support site, don't rely on the router built-in update check.

Oh yeah, be kind to your neighbors and tune your Wifi signal power to as low as needed. I drop mine down to as close to 0 as possible - and I still get a great connection.

If you can't get the new Intel 7260ac to work with your old router, kick in a few bucks and get an awesome new router. The RT-AC66U and RT-AC68U have worked great for me.

    Networking - RT-AC66U - ASUS

    Networking - RT-AC68U - ASUS

This beast is new, and I haven't tried it out yet, if any of you get one, please let us know how it works :)

    Networking - RT-AC87U - ASUS

With any single Wifi adapter sucky bad wireless can be anywhere, get a USB dongle Wifi adapter - I use one with a long cable to route it up high up and out of the way of obstacles at client sites - when the lab/cube/office is too dense to penetrate with the built-in antennas - a long USB cable puts the Wifi where I need it. And, a 2nd make/model of adapter increases the number of routers and AP's I can use.

    Networking - USB-AC56 - ASUS

It pays to have a couple of backup network devices in case of incompatibilities. USB wireless, USB ethernet, USB 4G

Why throw away a great laptop for easily worked around problems?

Scott i have Netgear R6200 and my Broadcom AC card which i brought through ebay working without a issue.
I initially got Intel 7260 and got tired with having to do driver modifications. I still think issue lies with crappy Intel driver.

bigspin, I only wanted to be clear that WMM and WPA-2/AES in particular aren't Intel's fault - and in fact should be the first 2 things to check when you are having bad connection and throughput problems.

It is common to find routers configured without WMM, or WMM support is broken - get a router firmware update or a new router, and WPA-2 / AES is also not set, both together causing connectivity and throughput issues.

Your 2 devices are new enough that the defaults are correct, which is why you didn't have any problems. Getting new components supporting new protocols kinda goes together. Which is why I recommend getting a good AC router for your new AC Wifi card.

But, you already did that :)

i tried to follow this thread closely, but am not sure if it was already talked over...
what's the reall difference between i7-4710 and i7-4860, i mean except the iGPU (since iGPU is disabled [and no way to turn it on] in non-optimus asus g751, right?) and except the not-so-much-diffrent clock speeds?
is the 4860 worth the extra $$$ in this case?

unless can some1 confirm that it is possible to switch between integrated and discreat graphics in this laptop?

    JT vs JY

I guess this was talked over already around here but I would like some fresh opinions:

I am looking at the G751-JT-DH72. I would love to have the JY instead with the 980M but I don't know if the price difference of almost $500 is really worth/proportional/justified to the increase in performance. All this considering that the lifespan of this laptop will be around 2 years and that I am not a hardcore fps/performance freak... I don't mind lowering some graphics settings at some point.

As for the differences between the JT and JY that I am looking at, the extra memory/hdd differences are negligible... I am only looking at this from the GPU point of view.

    Thanks!

    There is a new version?
All these different models are giving me a friggin headache. I bought my 751 in belief it had the m.2 ssd but it turns out it has a normal one. Annoying but not a dealbreaker though. Get your act together Asus.

Sorry, just based on what I've read here, looks like there was some type of revision with an updated Intel wireless card. Xotic is showing the 7260 and m2 SSD drive. I just wasn't sure if the larger guys had the same options.

Maybe I am not seeing it but where exactly does it say the laptop comes with 3 year global warranty on those resellers you mentioned? 3 years altogether seems reasonable.

Might be a bit off topic but what is included in the T7004H model of the G751?

Knowing someone 100% responsibly if version 980 and 970 include optimus feature?

Because in Nvidia not mentioned and Notebookcheck indicate that 970 run with optimus.

    Plz solve this confuse.

From what I understand, the 980 and 970 have optimus but Asus disabled the iGPU in every model of the G751. And I applaud this decision, because optimus was never really reliable specially in gaming focused machines.

Apologies as this is my first post :)
    Currently own a ASUS G74SX, I7-2630QM, 2.0GHZ, GTX560M, no ssd... 3+ years old..

Been following up for a long while, basically since i learned G751 was about to come out...

I've made my choice (G751 JY), but am now hesitating between 4860 and 4710 proc... what would be the benefits, in simple words if possible, opting for 4860 vs 4710 ?
Initially just wanted best/optimal choice (putting aside the price) but have read here and there 4860 may not be worth the extra euro's...

G751-JY with 4710 is already available on the site i'm planning to order from and just wanna know if I'd better wait or not...
4860 one is available on amazon.fr but with small ssd (128) and with french Azerty keyboard while only 4710 is currently available but at least with a Belgian Keyboard...

Any concrete advice ? am mainly playing (not video/pic editing whatsoever) but am looking for long term replacement :) (3-4 years if it can hold to it)

    Thanks !

Various websites and stores did a Black Friday sale for the first time this year and it was a huge hit. Media Markt was selling the G751JY with the best specs (available in this country) for the normal price of the G751JY with the lowest specs (4710hq, 8GB RAM and 1TB HDD) and the stock was cleared in a few hours :) But to be more precise, they are selling every laptop, TV, phone, tablet, etc with a 10% discount.
Another big electronic store's online webshop is still unavailable due to the servers crashing because of the high demand ...

Well, I did it! After debating over the Sager NP8651, NP8268-S, Gigabyte 35w v3, MSI GT72 and the ASUS G751, I finally made a decision this morning and grabbed the G751JY-DH71 via Amazon. Maybe a bit risky, but the price was fantastic.

I know some folks have had issues, but overall, this laptop seems really well constructed. All the reviews I've seen are fantastic and the IPS screen really grabbed me. I plan on replacing the 1TB 7200 rpm drive sooner rather than later.

    Good to hear it.
The JY is much better compared to the previous model, the G750JZ.
    -no optimus
-much better screen, the IPS panel has so much better colors than the previously used TN panel
-much better GPU and much better framerates
I have tested Bioshock Infinite on both machines and the JZ was suffering from microstuttering and FPS drops on some points.
For example, at the beginning of the game, at the fare at the shooting range, the GPU usage increases from 40% to 99% (with Vsync) and under JZ the FPS drops to 40 and you get microstuttering, while with the JY the FPS drops to 55-58, which you wont even notice without fraps and you wont get microstuttering.
So the JY offers a much smoother gameplay for badly optimized games like Bioshock Infinite.

For many of those reasons, I placed the order. In all honesty, it's a bit more than I need, but should give me a few years. It won't be leaving the house very often, so a thinner laptop wasn't needed.

You are right, I hate my g750jz screen. That is awful. my 6 years old clevo has even better panel than my current g750jz.

Intel VGA is disabled in all JY models, so no, there is no Optimus.
(Even thou some models even have the Intel Iris GPU sticker on them)

Got my ASUS ROG G751JY T7037H! Man, what a beast is this laptop. Got 26k score in Catzilla which is higher than my old desktop ( i5-4670k, gtx 780). The tempatures are very solid, GPU does barelly hit 60 degree celcius while playing World of Warcraft. The SSD is very fast ( 1100 mb/s read, 900 mb/s writte. But I seem to have a problem while listening to music, sometimes I hear some sort of crackle between the music. I used to have that on my Asus VI hero motherboard too, so guess its not a big deal.

Congrats! Mine arrived this morning and I honestly couldn't be happier! The build quality is really nice in my opinion. I was amazed at how fast it loaded too, ludicrous speed haha.

I hope to start installing and playing a few games soon.
