UltimaXemnas, there are lots of hardware inventory programs. I use hwinfo64, as it also has a sensors mode for monitoring and logging CPU/GPU temperatures, and Thermal Throttling events.
http://www.hwinfo.com/download.php
Go through to the inventory program part, leave Sensors and Summary unchecked, click Run, and look at drives:
Here is the drive info via Summary

Thank you for the links.
Just checked, apparently I have a Samsung SSD -
-
In my analysis it says Samsung MZHPU512HCGL-00004 [512]
Nothing about being 2.5" or M.2, but the store where I bought it said it was M.2 PCIe x4... -
Is there a fix for audio yet?

$750 ish for a 980M and $450 for the 970M mean it can make sense.
That's a 512GB XP914 Ultima.UltimaXemnas likes this. -

I know XP941 is a Samsung SSD, just didn't know that specific number given by hwinfo.

Well, after a full day of use...i'm freaking loving this thing! And i'm actually seeing the awesome side of this s***ty Intel Wi-Fi adapter, it peaked at 9mb/s while downloading a game off Steam...which I was never able to reach with any other PC I had with a wired connection O_O I'm still yet to test it under war conditions like games and, most importantly for me, heavy vídeo editing. Better hope it meets expectationsLast edited: Jan 23, 2015 -

I just purchased the g751jw a few days ago.. so far, so good. I updated the bios to 205 and installed all new drivers. My left usb ports work fine, my wifi seems stable, I have no screen bleed or IPS glow at all (very happy about that), and I have sound coming out both back speakers and not just the sub (sub doesn't work at all, atm). Overall, this laptop seems like one of the good ones.
I have a few questions... 1) What drivers/config do I need to setup so I have 2.1 stereo and not just 2.0? I would love to hear the sub working.
2) What are the normal temps I should expect under load (far cry 4 for example) for the cpu and gpu?
Thanks for the input guys! I've been through the whole thread in months past but don't have time to go through it all again. -
Can anyone shed some light as to what you guys are using to clean the rubberized soft touch finish on the top lid of your G751?
That thing attracts oil from fingers like crazy and water has zero effect in cleaning that surface. -

Yep, +1 on the microfiber cloth. However, my personal recommendation is that you use an external mouse/keyboard while not on the go, this kept my 6 year old XPS in mint condition even to this day
Plus... as good as the keyboard from the laptop is, it's still not as flexible as a gaming one, which you can use without worrying that you'll wear down the palm rest. -

Hi UltimaXemnas can you tell me on which store you bought your laptop?
I m from Portugal as well. By the way are you still happy with it?
thanks a lot pal enjoy your great machineUltimaXemnas likes this. -
So I was playing Dark Souls II, while connected to my Elgato Game Capture HD through HDMI to record some footage. All was going great, until I was summoned to another player's world and all of a sudden my audio dropped significantly...what the s***?! And after the session ended, the audio returned to normal...
I had to up my speakers volume nod, so that I could hear the sound from the game. I immediately turned the game off to understand what the hell happened, and I noticed this audio drop affected the recording as well. This audio drop also happens when I summon a player to help me, and I imagine in invasions as well. It also happened while I was just playing on the laptop, without recording...
So basically the laptop drops the audio significantly whenever an online activity happens in-game...any of you might have an idea on what satanic witchcraft this is?
Thank you for your help.
EDIT: NEVERMIND, JUST FIXED IT!
Guess all I had to do was right click on volume on the task bar, go to sounds, communications tab and click "do nothing". Pfft, obviously right?...WHY DOES THIS EVEN F***ING EXIST?! Scared the s*** out of me, I was already thinking the laptop was broken or something xDLast edited: Jan 25, 2015 -

Hey guys, new here. Got my G751 last week and its been working really good. Only problem im noticing now is the wifi problem thing some people seem to have, I get problem with downloading some files stuck at 99% and corrupt files and etc. Im thinking of switching the card out in the future, but im wondering if anyone have tested it out with an usb wifi and if it works good ?
Can also add that i get this issue with cable also, this network card is really .
EDIT: Found Solution, uninstalled that Gamefirst III and now its working. can download files and its alot faster.Last edited: Jan 25, 2015 -

Ah I see what you mean now, that's likely just the program unable to detect the speed properly.

Guys, I just used CrystalDiskMark to check out my XP941's performance. What do you guys think?

Someone on another thread suggested I use screen cleaning solution but it didn't help and now I fear that the damage from fingerprints might have been permanent. -

You should not need to use any solution really, how old is the machine? The XP941 performance above looks normal.

Nice, I bet you are enjoying the higher refresh rate

I'm curious as to what temps you're hitting with that OC. My CPU stays at under 80C and the GPU at max 70C, from what I've tested so far.
I could do with lower temps if ASUS would get on their stick and released a more aggressive fan profile... I'd rather have the most life out of it and a better cooling allows for better OCing -
More board pics. I also fixed the audio issues by adding black silicone around the speaker, thus damping the vibrations. No more weird resonating squaks from the chassy.

deteplete3, thanks for the photo's! I think you have a G751JY, or?
It would be really helpful if you could post photo's on how you plugged in and secured both the M.2/2.5" drives in the same bay -
I was wondering if anything bad would happen if I uninstalled Asus Gaming Center. I really don't see the point of this app, would uninstalling it cause any harm? I'm also facing trouble while trying to uninstall Asus Screen Saver, it asks me for a password...

Nice shots of the motherboard, it's crazy to think some graphics card use about the same amount of PCB as that entire system board with everything on it.
UX have you tried leaving it blank and pressing ok? -
It's really simple mate, some high quality tape from the local hardware store. Not a very precise cut, but you'll get the idea. A better cut will make for a more clean looking solution, as is, works just fine. I was a bit clumsy and damaged the end of the M.2 connector (the plastic is really soft) when pulling the laptop from a bag (Asus ROG Nomad) with the drive hanging out at an angle from the port.
You'll also see I removed the mesh from the speaker.
So we have the very fast 256gb Samsung drive in the M.2 slot which flies at around 1000+mb/s and a 840 Evo Samsung in a 1TB size (930 or so GB formatted) in the sata socket. The cover closes just fine and fits both drives. The tape secures them without moving, they are very light drives anyways. Bellow the M.2 drive theres a double-sided tape as well to act as a cushion.

deteplete3, looks good, thanks
Have you used something like CrystalDiskInfo to watch the temperatures of the M.2/2.5" SSD's?
My concern would be the complete coverage of the devices in some regions by the tape, holding in heat.
Maybe thin strips of tape will still provide the structural hold without the insulating quality caused by coverage of a large area with tape?Last edited: Feb 1, 2015 -
Great pics @deteplete3, thank you so much for sharing
That solution of having both slots used in that same bay is very interesting, although i'm a bit scared to do it myself because of what @hmscott already pointed out. Could you show your temps and speed? Is it really true that the SATA port under the M.2 slot is SATA III?
-
Temps should be a non-issue, I'll use thinner stripes and I also have some high thermal conductivity tape as well that I can route around and add some copper plates for heating.
Samsung drives use very low power, 20nm components if I'm not mistaken, the only part that would heat up it's the controller, so I'll handle that as well.
I really like this machine, even the screen has no problems running at 100Hz. A really fine piece of hardware. I held off buying the previous versions, G73, G750 etc. because they've always used TN panels which is a big no-no. I'm not a gamer and this is a workstation PC that will sometimes be used for games and I hated the limitation imposed by using mediocre TN panels just so latency is kept in check.hmscott and UltimaXemnas like this. -
Mine came at 75Hz, so can I up it to 100 with no issue?
-
Thanks for the heads up re temps. As shown above, the temps went to 50C for the ssds. Now I've reduced the tapes using small stripes and added a few adhesive heatsinks on the controllers. The temps don't go above 36C now. Even at 50C I don't think it was anything too worrysome but still, 36C is a lot better.
hmscott likes this. -
deteplete3, that's great news, 36c is normal.
My G750JH has 2 M.2 SATA drives, right now just powered up, and they are at 36c/38c. While my Samsung 840 Pro in the 2nd bay is at 23c.
Those bay's don't get a lot of cooling air flow, so HDD's get pretty hot in there, the SSD's do a little better, but the M.2's seem to get hotter than the 2.5" SSD's.
What is your 2.5" SSD temp, also 36c?
When you get a chance, please post the new taping so we can see what coverage works well.
Thanks deteplete3!
Update: In my G750JH after about an hour up-time the temps are 38c/39c M.2's, and 28c 2.5" Samsung 840 ProLast edited: Feb 2, 2015UltimaXemnas likes this. -
You did the same as @deteplete3 did to the M.2/SATA bay already, @hmscott?
-
UltimaXemnas, I have a G750JH, and it along with the G750JZ had models that came with 2 x M.2 SATA SSD's for a RAID0 boot volume.
It has a special layout for the Bay's, the left Bay is a platform for mounting 2 x M.2 SATA SSD's, and the Right Bay is a standard 2.5" SATA III bay.
It looks like this:
