I think some careful application of automotive Red high temp RTV Gasket Material should work very well as adhesive and positioning for both M.2 and SSD perhaps leaving some air gap between the two card for air flow?

I would think that some RTV Silicon Adhesive in a couple of spots would serve very well as an adhesive and also Support and positioning. Perhaps even leaving some space between them for air circulation. A Couple of small spot would be easy to remove later on if necessary.

Sorry about the double post just getting use to this new system and my internet connection really sucks right now.

Hey everyone, I made this post over at this official RoG forums, but I thought I'd cross post here to get some more input :)

I am really close to pulling the trigger on a G751jy, but one thing I am concerned about is the display/screen quality.

Right now, I have an older generation G74sx-XT1 that has a glossy screen and the display is gorgeous. That being said, the G751jy and all the other G751 models (apart from the touch screen version I think) come with a IPS Matte display.

My question to users who went from the G74 to the G751 - and even other users who switched from other laptops with a glossy screen to this - how do they compare in terms of screen/picture quality? Did it take some time getting used to the matte screen? Was it better?

I would really like to hear your feedback regarding the display on the G751 because I have only had laptops with glossy screens up until this point, and I've always found their picture quality to be overall better than the matte screens I saw on other notebooks. So, to my fellow ROG users, help me out

JerJer123, from my own experience moving from glossy to matte screen, I hated the matte screen for the first 10 minutes, then I got down to work and didn't think anything of it, until later when I took the laptop to a workbench and sighed, thinking I was going to have to figure out where to set / angle my screen to avoid reflections as I had done hundreds of times before... and I didn't need to do it - the matte screen was good to read at any angle to the lighting, very nice.

My own Macbook's were all glossy, until after that experience with a work laptop with a matte screen. After that I got all matte screened Mac's, except for 1 - which I returned after the matte version was available - I couldn't live with the constant intrusion of glare on a glossy screen.

Most everyone loves the new G751 IPS screen. There have been a few reports of bleeding intruding in from the bottom of the screen, but those have been fixed by returning and getting a new replacement.

If you get a G751 with bad bleeding, test to see if it happens only at boot, or if it happens during normal usage, and if it does try not to despair, simply return it for another one.

Congrats on the new G751 :)

the problem with the back-light bleeding on these models is the pressure from the panel pushing against the screen. Since the panels easily pop apart, i was able to adjust them and now have zero light bleed.

Light bleed is sadly an IPS problem and you can't do much about that other then this.. You have to get used to having some light bleed... You can try your luck with other units if your retailer allows exchanges but every unit will have some light bleed..

The mod may work better with the really small PCB drives you get out there, they may be short enough to let the M.2 sit flat.

Wishmaker if they pulled it for these notebooks I would highly recommend that you don't install it. There is probably a very good reason they pulled it.

See, my "it will take several months until new drivers will be out" prediction was correct :)
Ok, one less "issue" that keeps me from buying it! I just hope Witcher 3 will run fine on it, once it's out.

The drivers may have stability issues but I doubt they would cause damage Clint.

New audio driver, gotta try it out :D

Any of you can tell me what improvements can I expect out of it? And would just running the setup sufice, or should I uninstall my current driver first?

Running the setup uninstalled everything and asked to restart. This broke my sound. I then had to run the installer again to install the new driver. I think it says that it's going to do that when you first run it.

Short version: yes, run the installer. But be prepared to run it twice with a reboot in between

dorioo, the installer should have automatically run after the first reboot, done the install, and then requested to reboot one more time.

If you haven't rebooted since the install, you should do it now. :)

Don't click cancel when it asks you to reboot, otherwise the installer won't start automatically after the first time you run it.

Just installed it. Everything went ok.

I do notice a significant improvement in balancing L/R speakers. I just turned on the 5.1 option and I like the sound of it, good bass and presence even though there's still a bit of annoying hissing down there. This made be realize that I never actually heard the subwoofer all this time, always had it in stereo (i think?) so I have little to no basis for objective comparison. I guess we just have to realize this laptop's audio is just not that great...

I'm perfectly fine with what I had though, it was never really a problem for me. With this improvement i'm more than fine :D

I must have hit cancel because it didn't automatically try to install after the first reboot. I manually installed it though. All is good. Thanks.

UltimaXemnas, you aren't the only one that has mentioned the hiss, but you say it is down there? From the sub? Is it buzzing vibration like, or hissy like too much treble?

If it is too much treble you can use the AudioWizard equalizer to reduce the high frequencies. I use the 250hz to cut output to reduce buzzing in the subwoofer.

The Sub may now be over driven, you could try adjusting the slider down from 100% subwoofer level to see if that helps - I have my G750JH set to 55 when I have Loudness enabled and 80 when Loudness is disabled.

Apparently the fix only applies to 2.1 sound, if you set it to 5.1 the full frequency sub comes back...

I saw someone mentioning adding a little foam around the speakers to help reduce vibration.

I wonder if those new realtek drivers also work on my old G73Jh, as it also has a subwoover which can't be correctly controlled on Win8 (without creative software)?
    [edit]
Drivers installed fine, but sadly no new control for the subwoofer.

3nDo3mO, what updates? Nvidia driver, or? What is saying this? Did you run this same validation check before the Nvidia(?) update and it said it was ok? Or are you running this requirements test for the first time?

Those requirements tests are notoriously bad, especially for mobile CPU/GPU, they simply don't work.

I would use the numbers you know, speed of the CPU at 100% Turbo, speed of the GPU at full clock, and do the comparison against the written minimum/recommended values from the game maker.

And, look for videos with people running the same mobile CPU/GPU, or even the same model laptop, and the game you are interested in, and watch their video.

Your G751JT should be able to run all games out today without problems. :)

I'm sorry, yes the Nvidia drivers and no I didn't run any validation checks. After the Nvidia driver update 347.52 all the optimal settings are low (texture quality, shadow quality and environment quality) and evething else off (SSAO, FXAA) and resolution is 1366x768 and I get the message in my NVIDIA Gefroce experience that "Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for optimal settings in the game. Same with EVOLVE.

I would say, revert to the previous driver release. It sounds as if the GPU was not correctly detected/installed.

You can check Nvidia Control Panel to make sure the games are set to High Performance or select the GTX 970M. It may have reset to run of the Intel HD when you updated the drivers.

Yep the control panel setting for PhysX was auto so I changed it to GPU. Also rolling back didn't help it had the same optimal settings so I reverted it back to latest drivers.
Is there anyone else who installed any of the latest games on their G751JT?

It does but getting low frame rates, like 35 to 45 sometimes even lower. The only way I get higher frame rates is if i use the optimal settings.

So a store here in Norway got a pretty good weekend deal on a Asus ROG G751JY, being discounted from 19000 Norwegian kroner to 14500 kr. Basically 20000 kr would buy me the new Clevo P771ZM with i7 4790K and GTX 980M 8GB, 1TB HDD and 256GB SSD but without Windows. Reason i'm leaning more towards the Asus one is better battery life and it being cheaper.

    17" matte IPS 1920x1080
    Intel i7 4710HQ 2,5 GHz
Nvidia Geforce GTX 980M (Not the 8GB one D: )
    Apparantly Optimus free?
16GB of RAM so guessing its 2x 8GB
    1TB mechanical drive and 256GB M.2 SSD
    Standard DVD-RW optical drive

Anyone got some experience with this notebook? Going to order it as a store pickup in case i get a dodgy unit so it's easier to get it returned.

Ended up getting a even better deal on the same notebook so ended up paying 12000 kr for it. (1578 USD) Just too good to pass up and since it is a store pickup i can just return it if i need to RMA it.
My first ever Asus notebook so hopefully it can live up to the reviews i been reading about it.

Follow this link and click on the text that says "Spesifikasjoner". Seems every retailer here in Norway sells it with the Intel i7 4710HQ but at least i got the good one with 980M. :) Even ended up getting it cheaper that the 970M model. haha

    Great :D

I got the most powerful one: 4860, 32gb ram, 980m, 512 m.2 ssd. It cost me 2000€, it hurt alot but in the end I was not dissapointed.
