I've had a few failures but that was mostly bios issue related.

Hey guys, what are the temperatures when gaming on this thing? Does the laptop ever get hot to the touch? How loud does it get? I have several laptops in mind that I want to look at before making a purchase and these are pretty important to me. Thanks!

While gaming we see CPU temps in the low 70's and GPU temps in upper 60's so very good temps. Its pretty quite as well, probably the quietest of all current 17.3" with comparable hardware.

It definetly has Asus's standard quiet and leading cooling system :).. One thing I really miss in my Alienware :(

Sweet. I think I'll get this. Is it advisable to get a laptop cooler for this if I plan to use it as a "laptop"? Its pretty heavy at 10lbs but I may be giving it to my gf to use while I'm not working out of town.

I recently picked up a new G751jy (I seem to have a growing collection of Asus laptops!!) and I just use a laptop pad from belkin (laptop cushdesk). I use it all around the house and have never found a need for a laptop cooler.
    Cheers!!

The only reason to get a cooler is to elevate the back a little allowing the fans to breathe more easilly and to have a handly place to put it. Extra fans are not needed.

Hey guys, just got the laptop a few days ago. My question is this: when installing software and what not.. I've saved the files on other partitions other than the OS C drive yet the drive is always low on space somehow, it even went to 0 before while I was saving to the other drives. Anybody know why its doing that?

When you open explorer, click on My Computer... Then right click in the left explorer tab and select manage.. Under manage storage, see all the parittions in the drives... Delete the recovery partitions if you don't need them..

It should not be backing up all the time, you likely had installed something that was using up all the space.

That's highly doubtful, I've dealt with partitioned drives (coming from mainly desktop) and as a desktop enthusiast (GTX Titan SLI) etc, I've never ran into a problem like this. Nothing on the C drive shows that stuff is being installed to it. I've even set all my gaming software to save on every drive but the C (even temp files).. So dunno what the issue is.

The page file would be the only other dynamic part. The restore partition is a static copy of factory default.

I'll have to take a look. Thanks :).

Is there only space for one m.2 ssd and one 2.5" HDD for this laptop?

I've been reading around a bit. How does one get this panel to 75hz? Haven't oc'ed and monitor panels before. I'm guessing it would void warranty?

Any OC's to the GPU for extra performance?

    Thanks guys!

You set a custom resolution in the nvidia panel. It's either 1× m.2 + 1x 2.5" or 2x 2.5". If you go a bit custom you can fit both a bare pcb 2.5" ssd and an m.2 drive in.

For the owners out there.. Do you guys just leave the laptop plugged in? I barely have much of a reason to not plug it in, and would love to remove the battery if I had the choice. I read somewhere that its possible? But wondering if anybody else here have tried

I wouldn't remove the battery. This gives you some UPS functionality. I've also got my old G73jh always plugged in, with the battery plugged in and after now over 4 years, the battery still has 80% of the original charge. You won't get much better numbers even if you have the battery in the fridge.

Is this the official thread for the meniotned notebook? I'm quite interested in it.
My first question is: Is it possible to install 2 ssd and 1 regulard hd?
The version I've found includes a normal 1tb hd, and a 128 ssd (I think it's an m.2) Is it possible to install a sata 3 ssd under the M2?

You can if you hack it a bit, there is not normally space but if you take the PCB out of the 2.5" drive (and short PCB drives work better) then you can squeeze them in.

But normally no the m.2 eats the 2.5" bay.

    Hi,
I've just read something similar on the official forum, like someone stripped bare a samsund evo sata. Do you know anyone who has done this and posted a guide/pics? It is really important for me, because I need an additional ssd, with lots of capacity. Also wonder if the new cheap crucial bx100 1tb would be strippable.

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/8747/samsung-ssd-850-evo-review/2

As you can see the PCB is small inside (with the 128 and 250gb being pretty small), you have to unscrew the case (voiding your warranty) and simply take the pcb out. You will want to secure it with the likes of electrical tape and isolate it from the m.2 drive with a thermal pad or electrical tape.

The time for has come to ask my local ASUS RMA to clean my G751JY from dust and repaste the CPU because there are some games that makes it throttle (90C+) and also asked them to make a clean factory Windows restore.

    They response:
"Sure no problem, however dust removal and cpu/gpu repaste is not covered by warranty so you have to pay $50 work fee"

I couldn't even give a reponse to this so I just said "Thank you" and hang up .. strange that repasting is not covered by ASUS warranty :/

You probably showed to much knowledge ;)
Just tell them that recently games started to run very slow and the machine is noisier than usual. You expect some issue with the cooling, if they could check and repair it :)

Throwing out a quick question here. Looking for a couple of opinion on this matter:

Is this a good time to get a G751JY or should I wait?

Is there any info about any upcoming model? Haven't been following the market lately so I don't know what's going on and what's coming soon. Mostly speaking about GPU/CPU.

I would wait. At least here in Switzerland the G751JY is in end-sale mode. I assume we soon get a successor/refresh.
There is no information about a new model though, which is very untypical for Asus.

I dunno, but there isn't really much new on the CPU or GPU fronts... If i were you I would get the unit now. It is still a great machine that runs every game at high in native 1080pn resolution, even the most demanding games such as GTA V and Attila Total War. The machine is a beast I tell ya :) You'd love it.

Thanks! Looks like I'll kind of follow both advices. I'll wait for about 2-3 months and if nothing new comes up, I'll get this one.

I am sure it will make me happy. Currently I have the G75VX and it still runs everything. It's true I have to tweak graphics settings but GTA 5 for example runs very well. I plan on keeping the new laptop for about 3-4 years, so I'm not in a real rush to get it now.

cykelman, depending on how you are stressing the laptop, if you are running the ultimate stress test 100% CPU/GPU with Prime95 (small fft's) + Furmark, then you likely will Thermally Throttle briefly, not to worry most G751's will.

The key is does it happen during normal work / gaming. Likely not.

Using hwinfo64 "Sensors Only" to monitor the temps, and if you see Temps hit 93c, check the Thermal Throttling entries for a Yes, and if you have 1 or more Yes's, then turn on hwinfo64 logging to see how often it happens.

If temps stay under 93c, and no Thermal Throttling most of the time, then you are aok.

Most gaming shouldn't cause Thermal Throttling, and the Prime95 (small fft's) + Furmark aren't really typical use, unless you do batch processing of audio/video rendering, then it might be important to you.

You use Intel XTU to turn down the multipliers on the CPU Core 3/4 a couple of notches to stop Thermal Throttling under 100% CPU/GPU, and keep Core 1/2 at maximum multiplier, but don't do this unless you need to, otherwise keep the multipliers up to the maximum for all 4 cores and cache.

    Have fun :)

cykelman, those CPU temps are too low. Did you select "Small FFT's" test when starting Prime95, that's the test that gets the high CPU temps.

And, the Valley test is fun, but it doesn't have the same load test as Furmark 1080p 15 minute burn-in.

You also didn't show your GPU temps... use GPU-Z Sensors tab for simultaneous view of CPU in hwinfo and GPU in GPU-Z.

Why vary the test from Prime95 Small FFT's + Furmark 1080p 15 minute burn-in that every one else posts?

The idea is to run exactly the same test on each machine so you can compare the results :)

You will certainly TDP throttle with such benchmarks, the stock TDP is not high enough to maintain high boost clocks under stress tests.

I just recently bought a jy version from amazon. Id like to know if they give out codes for the nvidia game bundle akin to purchasing discrete gpu since this laptop has their top of the line mobile gpu aotm. As seen on nvidias site that they are giving away redeemable codes for the witcher 3 etc. For any gpu purchase.

Id really like to save a few bucks if someone can point me to the right direction to claim said promo.

    Thanks!

Uhhh.... you realize this is like driving your car to the dealership you bought it from with the expectation that they clean it for you... lol no... this your responsibility.

Normal maintenance is not included in most warranties, I bought a 2013 impala, I have to pay for oil changes even though its still under warranty. See what im getting at here?

Just tell them its running slow and it'll all be done for free....

Though it's not something a user can do very easily on the Asus. $50 is not too bad of a charge however.

It's a common issue, I could not find a 100% cure, but I did go into the Device Manager and disabled the option to sleep for each USB add-on. This reduced the on/off frequency of the plugged in devices. I still get it sometimes, just not as often.

Haven't posted here in a while, been too busy worshipping my new god machine...if 5 months can be considered new :p

Anyway guys, I was hoping you could help me with something: I wanted to buy an extra power brick (I think that's what it's called) for my G751JY to keep in my nomad backpack at all times, so that I don't have to take my original one out of it's already complicated place everytime I want to move the laptop around and work somewhere else.

But I have no idea where to get one, specially for the exact model I have. I've searched on eBay but it doesn't have one for my exact model (JY-T7029H), and I can't seem to find it on Asus' shop.

Thank you for your time, guys!

My laptop came back from RMA where it got a repaste to Arctic Silver MX4 and it lowered the temps by absolutely 0 compared to the default factory temps when I purchased the laptop. By this I mean that with XTU it reaches about 75C, but if GPU is utilized too, then it gets 93C. This was the same when I got the laptop, so I consider this "normal".

Before I've sent it to RMA the temps got 95C in XTU too so at least that got fixed.

But have to send it back for another RMA because the keyboard light cable got damaged during repair or the technician forgot to plug it back in ...
