    New Intel M Broadwell is out now but are more for tablets and ultrabooks full powered version for laptops will not come out until much later. No chance it happens in January.
    Back on topic:
    I'm sort of wondering if there will be any difference in performance between the 4GB vs the 8GB 980M at 1080p.
    From what I know the MXM version has 8GB and soldered version has 4GB but some newer games use a lot of GB like BF4 and wondering if the 4GB will be at a disadvantage for upcoming games that will be more demanding.
    I know everyone was making fun of nVidia for using a lot GB's on some GPU's at first but now not so sure if more is really better or just a more marketing garbage.

    The thing I hate most about Asus now is how cheap the displays they use are. To compare, the current G750 model uses the AUO219D display, which has an average brightness of 277 cd/m^2, covers 79% of sRGB, has a black value of 0.57, and a contrast of 502:1.

    Three years ago, they released the G74SX with a far superior display. Average brightness of 431 cd/m^2, covers 90% of sRGB, has a black value of 0.67, and a contrast of 691:1. Okay, the black value is higher, but everything else is worse than it was three years ago. All to save money on production costs. Besides the more powerful CPU and GPU, nothing else has changed in this model for the last three years.

    The same issue lies with the G551. The G550 used a high quality IPS display (SDC324C). But now, the G551 uses a much inferior, non-IPS display (AUO36ED). The same mediocre display as the Lenovo Y50. You only need look at the G551 thread to see how many people are pissed off about the display.

    Meanwhile, MSI has been hard at work shoving the 970M into a laptop which weighs 4 pounds lighter. Acer has popped the 860m in a laptop which weighs 2 pounds lighter, but has acceptable cooling. The lead Asus used to have over the other manufacturers has flipped. Now, Asus is the one who needs to step up their game. Well, maybe they still have fans from their glory days, back when Alienware was still popular. I used to be one, but I have to judge laptops as others have reviewed them.

    Uhm - I can't say much about the G750 and earlier, but the screens in the G751 models are all IPS.

    That's good. We'll have to see how good of a IPS display it is. Asus can certainly find some very cheap ones to put in, but it's usually not the case with IPS.

    Now, if Asus could only reduce the weight from 8 to 6 pounds without negatively impacting the great cooling system, this would seriously be the best heavyweight gaming option out there. But I doubt they're going to change anything, given how little has changed since three years ago!

    I am able to natively edit 1080p60 AVCHD in Premiere using the G73SW in my signature. No transcoding required. It is usually smooth as silk even when scrubbing around the clip quickly. I can do this with Encore and Photoshop open at the same time, no big deal.

    If my Sandy Bridge can do this, I'm sure Haswell is more than capable. Premiere is almost entirely CPU-dependent, and the GPU doesn't really matter, but having an Nvidia GPU is a must if you're using Adobe software. You can allow Premiere to use a CUDA-enabled GPU to help render effects.

    I also can't imagine that the i7-4710HQ would be a bottleneck for the 980m in anything except for some GPU-heavy games that are poorly optimized for multicore performance.

    EDIT: For editing, it's important that you have 2 hard drives. At least one should be a large-capacity HDD @ 7200rpm. 5400rpm is not acceptable for editing, and I wouldn't recommend an SSD for my scratch disk. The two drive bays and the cooling were the main draws for the G73 over other laptops with similar specs.

    Things i dont like about asus g751:
    - red color keyboard and red backlight
    - made only the vents side thicker and the design looks weird from side pose
    - only 4gb variants of 980m, and not using MXM? i think this has to do with the design of laptop which is only thicker from the vents area... msi is thicker all around and uses MXM.
    - HQ soldered cpus option only
    - screen?

    I can't imagine a situation where you would need 8GB of GPU RAM over 4GB unless you're hauling your notebook AND a 4K display in your backpack.

    Very soon if not already. But mobile GPUs are not powerful enough to utilize the full resolution on high graphics settings so it's sort of a moot point. At this point because most software has not transitioned to 4k, it's best to stick with 1080p or 1440p as it is very frustrating changing from one program with super small text to another with giant text. I have a 3k display UX303LN and I just keep it on 1080p.

    IPS is locked at 60hz according to an Asus Moderator on their forum. They decided to use IPS instead of TN (which can do 120Hz) because people wanted to quality and viewing angles that came with IPS.

    Ken from Gentech said he will check it out. Dunno how long it's gonna take tho

    You don't need the 4860HQ.. Its literally not worth it with the 4710HQ being almost the same.. The 4860HQ just has Iris Pro graphics so unless you need a better integrated GPU, its pointless.. Get the 4710HQ model save yourself some dosh..

    Specs wise, the MSI is better, but not in any way that's actually necessary unless you plan on using 4K or going long periods with intel integrated graphics.

    if you want to save $300, go for the Asus. The Asus will likely be built better, run quieter, and have less lights. (The last thing is more personal taste than anything)

    Good day everyone -A lost new user who is desperately trying to get a Laptop for my travels in Europe!:hi2:

    First of all I would like to apologize for the placement of my post, it seems I cannot create a thread due to the following reason.

    "Your submission could not be processed because a security token was missing.

    If this occurred unexpectedly, please inform the administrator and describe the action you performed before you received this error."

    As such this seemed to be the most appropriate place to ask my question.

    I have been thoroughly an Asus fan, I tend to stick to them from my GTX 780 which ultimately is no different to any other branded reference card all the way to my ROG mobo and so on.
    As I am a creature of habit, I would like to continue this trend and purchase the Asus ROG G751JY-T7004H.

    I have tried the Asus info booth, Asus directly, and all retailers that stock ROG equipment from the Asus 'where to buy' list. I am somewhat at a loss.

    I have been privileged enough to live in Australia for most of my life and would generally not encounter this issue but alas, I am in my home country of Greece and cannot source this beautiful product from anywhere.

    The only hot lead I currently have is France, although I am certainly not interested in placing such an exorbitant order for an AZERTY keyboard.

    My humble question to you is;

    Where in Europe (I am willing to fly to the country if need be within 5 hours in any direction from Greece) can I purchase a QWERTY version of the ASUS G751JY-T7004H?

    England is also acceptable but have no dates for stock, has anyone ever encountered this problem or know of any way to obtain such a beautiful machine? :confused:

    I would like to finally note - I could purchase from America and Australia as I have friends in both country's (that counts for France, England, Serbia & Italy) that can accept it and ship it, but between Air Cargo, possible damage & corrupt Greek customs I have already dealt with for the 170KG I flew in 2 weeks ago of personal effects, I don't see myself getting the laptop for a reasonable price.

    EDIT: The G751JY-T7009H is also on the list, essentially which ever I find first in QWERTY.
    Thank you in advance & Kind Regards,
    Elefhterios.

    Can someone tell me why the 4860 is a better CPU than the 4710? If im correct the 4860 is 2.4ghz while the cheaper 4710 is 2.5ghz so the more expensive CPU is 100mhz slower than the cheaper one. Surely the Asus 751 with 4710 would be the better option?

    I'm wondering this too. The 4860hq seems to get a much higher score in the Passmark CPU Benchmark:

    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

    4710hq - 7924
    4860hq - 9259

    If this is just due to the fast Intel 5200 Graphics vs the 4600, I don't care. If its actually 20% faster, it might be worth it.

    The 4860hq is mostly faster in certain tests due to the large cache it gets to borrow from the igp. In integrated mode it will offer higher gaming performance while keeping battery life long but the cpu difference is mostly a wash. The 4860 is also partially unlocked more for overclocking.

    I've read the review. These are the key points I cared about (TL;DR).

    Design - Black with red accents on lid. Weird layered design on the bottom of the laptop makes it thinner in the center. Still really big and heavy.

    Keyboard - Great, except you need backlight on to see letters on keys.

    Display - Above average. Good values for color coverage (93% sRGB) and contrast (650:1). Amazing color accuracy (DeltaE of 2.02) and high brightness (334 lux). They didn't mention IPS, but it should be.

    GTX 980M - It's really fast. It seems to be 25-30% faster than the 970M and 10-15% slower than the desktop GTX 970.

    Battery Life - Four hours or less for typical everyday usage.

    Heat and Fans - Still the best. Amazing load exterior temperatures (less than 90 F/32.2 C) and max noise level (38.4dB).

    TL;DR the TL;DR All Asus had to do was put a good display in, and they did. I'm pretty sure this is the best gaming laptop out there, but it does cost $2500.

    I'm still deciding between two 15 inch laptops: The Acer Nitro V15, which has the 860M and is $1100, and the MSI GS60, which has the 970M, is 4 pounds lighter, and costs $1800. With the G751, there are three excellent choices for their respective price ranges. Right now, I'm learning toward the GS60 simply due to the thin size.

    I was also really interested in an MSI laptop a while back, but ever since i've heard of their cooling issues I backed off. I want to upgrade my 4 year old laptop, and I want the G751JT to be the one.

    Is the GTX 970m good enough for games out there? I keep hearing 980m is so much better, but holy s*** is it expensive! :O

    I'm not a PC gamer, I play games on my PC occasionally and mostly when I have to because i'm a console gamer. I'm not interested in ULTRA FX DTS SURROUND 7.1 4K XTREME OMEGA graphics, is the 970m enough to run most games at good settings with cool fps?

    Actually, Shadow of Mormor already asks for 6GB or higher VRAM when in 1080p Ultra settings. I have no idea why would anyone want to play at such ridiculous settings, is the difference THAT big?

    1080p Medium-High will give you 60 fps in almost all games.
    1080p Ultra (with AA) will give 30 fps or more in almost all games.
    Here you can see the benchmarks and FPS of 970m tested in most popular titles of 2013-14.
    So I'd say its a pretty damn impressive card and definitely great value for money. Personally I think $1500 for 970m is a perfect choice if you are on a tight budget.

    Hi there ZerockX - Thank you for your response, as mentioned in my post I have done this with no avail.

    I should probably clarify, I've attempted normal avenues I have contacted all Asus re-sellers both on the phone and in writing, shockingly no one has been able to give me a date except for Cdiscount & 2 other French online retailers.

    Would anyone by chance have an avenue that may not be so common place? Maybe a friend who works there, some inside knowledge? Or, better yet experience with purchasing laptops in EU, maybe i'm jumping the gun and not allowing enough time? Since I'm not a local I'm not use to this level ambiguity.

    EDIT: Also a side note - AZERTY is not n option for me I am 15 years later stuck on QWERTY muscle memory.

    EDIT2: Kindly ignore my posts, Overclocker.co.uk have responded with what I want to hear. The search is over =)

    Those were kind of rhetorical joke questions, but whatever...
    Damn, it's even better than what I expected! Awesome, thanks for the info :D

    I really hope my G751JT lasts for more than 5 years...

    I can't wait to get my G751JT-CH71.

    From my current machine, it'll be a jump from:
    • 7200rpm HDD -> SATA III 512GB SSD
    • AMD Radeon 7960M -> Nvidia 970M
    • 1 GB of VRAM -> 3 GB of VRAM
    • 8 GB (1600MHz) RAM -> 16GB (1600MHz) RAM
    • TN Display -> IPS Display
    • Sandy Bridge i7 -> Haswell i7
    • Windows 7 -> Windows 8.1 (Upgrading to Windows 10 later)
    • HP -> Asus

    C'mon Asus! Why do I have to wait until November when other people are getting theirs now? :rolleyes:

    I'd say you are in a faster boat than me. I'm waiting to get my hands on this laptop here in Canada. So far there is no ETA for any of the G751 models :(
