Haha, I live in Canada too - BC to be exact. If you live close enough to the border you could do what I plan on doing - ship it to a depot in the US, then just take a day trip across the border to pick it up and do some shopping. (Things are cheaper down there anyway)

Haha, because you didn't mention G751JT-CH71- CA I thought you were from USA. Anyway, that sounds like a good plan, but I won't be able to make it. I'm from Winnipeg, closest place for me would be Fargo or Grand Forks. I guess I'm gonna have to wait a little more :(

GentechPC ships to Canada (having previously ordered from the before while living in BC) and the G751 looks to be in stock on their website.

Hmmm - I didn't know that, though if shipping's free for the US, I may end up doing that to avoid customs and shipping costs anyway.

The G751JT-CH71 doesn't seem to be available anywhere yet, and Newegg currently has it pinned for release on November 4th - I'll message Gentech to see if they will be getting it in as well, but XoticPC apparently doesn't know if they will, so I'm not getting my hopes up too high.

Hopefully they'll be getting it - since it means I can get a hard drive caddy as well.

Annnnnnd Gentech has no ETA on the CH71 either.

Seems that the only reseller with any idea of when that model is releasing is Newegg.

Do u guys think the 8gm vram is neccessary oin the MSI? Asus has only 4. I know shadow of mordor ultra asks for 8gb and nothing else, but i dunno if 4gb will be enough after a year as well.... Or aftertwo years... Msi is good because of the 8gb vram and i can upgrade the gpu later but asus has better built quality and the cooling is not that loud. Toughts?

Neccasary, no but it doesn't hurt either. At 1080p most games will not need/use 4GB's of Vram.

Would be nice but don't hold your breath.

Posting this from my G751 that arrived today. It lives up to the hype! It is very quiet and plays Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel maxed out with ease (the only game I've played so far).

One thing that is strange, the laptop's 1TB spin drive came in two partitions. Any idea why it would be that way?

Also, I had very bad luck using the Steam button on the top left of the keyboard. It runs a version of Steam that isn't compatible with my games. I had to uninstall it, then re-install Steam to get my games to work.

Aside from that, this was a great purchase and don't regret it one bit. Even the Nomad backpack is top notch!

Asus always splits that HD in two. And dedicated Steam button is a little bit over the top imho...
Can you please go to Nvidia Control Panel/Display and try to set your Refresh Rate to a 100Hz? Please?

.... Well that just solidified the fact I'm purchasing from the US.

The $1,499 model of the G751 in Canada has:
    • Nvidia 860M instead of 970M.
    • 6GB less RAM.
    ... than the G751JT-CH71.

Seriously, Asus? I can't wait for the G751JT-CH71. Why would I pay the same thing for so much less?

What about the audio (speakers + subwoofer) of G751JY?
I always loved MSI GT6xx Dynaudio quality and power... I've read in this review Asus ROG G751JY-DH71 review | Digital Trends it should have "excellent" and loud audio this time...

I tried to adjust the refresh rate from 60Hz, and it will not let me. This is also using the most recent Nvidia drivers. Had to update those upon turning on the laptop the first time.

Ask and you shall receive! My apologies up-front for the lack of quality in the pics. I am neither a photographer nor do I own a nice camera (iPhone 6 only).

I went with the G751JY-DH71. I like the IPS screen, though it seems to have some slight ghosting (possibly from slower response time?). But I came from a 1ms 144Hz TN panel on my old desktop, so it will take some time to get used to it. The colors are vibrant on the Asus. I haven't monitored the temps closely, but the laptop runs quiet even while gaming, so they can't be getting that high. The red keyboard is lovely! I used to use a mechanical keyboard that wasn't back lit, so this was a step in the right direction for me.

Screen quality seems quite good. The laptop is very sturdy, absolutely no flex.

Someone asked about the sound volume and quality. Volume gets quite loud! Quality is a little lacking, but what do you want from laptop speakers? If you need higher quality playback, I would go with external speakers or cans/amp.

Any other questions, just ask. I check back on this thread every now and then.

    Hey,

While the model isn't the same (JY-DH71 vs. JT-CH71) I was wondering if you could open up the bottom panel and take a few pictures of the connections available on the G751? I still haven't gotten any solid answers on if I can replace the OS BootDrive with my 512GB SATA III 2.5" SSD while keeping the 1TB (7200pm) HDD the laptop comes with.

Could you please check and post pics?

Asus has always won when it comes to noise level and cooling - and apparently they've won again with the G751. So there's your answer.

@TheCrimsonG thanks for the pics. I have a question and particularly about the screen.

I notice in the second and third picture, you took pics from an angle and there seems to be this bluish tinge to the screen. Is this actually how the screen looks when you look at it from an angle, or is it just due to you taking a pic of a screen with a camera?

I saw the review GenTech posted. Just about everything is comparable to the MSI GT72 Dominator Pro, even cooling and noise. The reviewer didn't measure the case temperatures though, which should be a little bit lower on the Asus. I seem to remember saying Asus hasn't improved anything in the last 3-4 years while MSI has caught up in that time.

But looking in the thin-gaming sector, it's clear MSI has worked hard to diversify their lineup with the GS60. Asus hasn't even released the GX500 or NX500 yet despite hyping it up. This indicates to me Asus has failed in their design goals and chose to take only the safe route with their usual 17-inch laptops. Well, maybe they should just focus on making the best G752 they can.

FINALLY I see how the hard drive bays work. I was worried that the mechanism they put in with the PCIE port would stop a second 2.5" drive from being installed, but it seems I was wrong.

Thank you very much GentechPC for the review - I can't wait to order my system! (Seems I may have to do it from Newegg instead of you guys though, since it seems you're not sure if you're getting the G751KJT-CH71 in stock... )

Please work on getting that model in. As far as I know, it's releasing on the 4th of November.

Look at the gentech video review. They do noise tests in it.

I already knew this laptop was gonna be greatness, but just wasn't sure about the sound. It seemed really good in the video, although it's always hard to tell...

Ok just saw that review, ASUS FULL LOAD 58db, GT72 68db
btw the jump from 58 to 68 is much higher than 48 to 58 they don't scale normally
lol GS60 max out at 65db and this is known to be one noisy laptop that is super thin

    GT72 is noisy ;/

I guess the only reason I can see to consider the GT72 over this one is the upgradeable GPU, right?

    That seems to be it.

I personally prefer the ASUS due to build, looks, cooling, noise, cost, and warranty. (All of them seem to be better for me on the Asus)

I guess many gamers will see that as the main selling point, but I don't get it...without having an upgradeable CPU as well, what's even the point? The newer/more powerful the GPU, the more CPU power it needs to compensate for it so without an upgradeable CPU I don't see the point. Unless the GPU fails, of course...

I also prefer Asus. Always have. To me they are the top laptop manufacturer on the planet, and by a considerable margin.

I really would like to see an answer to this question, as well.
And am still thinking if 4gb vram is gonna be enough for some years or msi gt72 8gb vram.....
This will be my first gaming laptop, i ve never spent this much money on a notebook.
If i pay that price i want to use this stuff for at least 3-4 years. Gaming on max or almost max settings. I have some questions too. one of the most important is UltimaXemnas' question.

I just pulled the trigger on this myself. Seems like a good price when compared to other laptops available in Canada with the 980m. (except the 8Gb VRam) Except I'm not worried at all about only having 4Gb. Early reviews said it runs quiet as well.

I believe it sells for 2500 on Newegg.COM, so the price seems decent.

It's just the camera. The screen looks almost completely identical no matter where you are when you look at it.

Thanks for the review GenTech PC. Missed the full dimensions measurement as well as the weight; would've liked to see that.

Im in Canada as well :) hope will find a good price here. Dont want to buy it from the states.

Will 980m be enough to play new games on max/almost max settings for the next some years?

Thanks - I know it should work thanks to Gentech's video review, but I need to know if it comes with a drive caddy or not for the empty drive bay - in their video it didn't...

You're not supposed to be upgrading the GPU. It's possible, but you run the risk of messing up, damaging your laptop permanently in the process, and voiding your warranty. Unless you have prior experience, you shouldn't be trying.

In two years, the GTX 980M won't be able to play games at maximum settings, maybe due to a lack of VRAM, architecture optimization, or shaders. But, the laptops out then will have better GPUs. That is how companies make money.

Hey pardon the interruption but hoping someone could help.

I want to get a new Asus laptop with the 980 or 970. The one at newegg isn't available until 11/4.

Computer Parts, Laptops, Electronics, and More - Newegg.com

It's marked as the ASUS G751JT-DH72.

Are these laptops available now elsewhere? I'd love any help getting pointed in the right direction. Thanks very much for any assistance!

I still like the easy access to the fan to clean up the fan on MSI GT72. Most people complaint about gaming laptop overheats is because the dusts built up in the fan and vent, it actually kills a laptop.

I've heard so many times that people complaints their gaming laptops gets hotter and hotter and they think it's Video Card or CPU causing it. Well, it's not and it will never happen. the core temperature stays the same. if it suppose to stay at 80*C then it will run at 80*C all the time. it won't suddenly generate more heat by itself unless it's coming from outside source such is vents or fan got block.

I blow up the dusts in the fan and vents on my MSI GT70 every 3 months just to keep it clean, also if I am not able to do that or not able to easily repaste thermal compound then I'll be very upset.

Also the screen is 60Hz not 120Hz.
