hi THIS website says ..Asus G751JY @ 2200 CAD. As per google, 2200CAD = 1950 USD (1 CAD= 0.88 USD). What is the Difference .. I mean the specifications are same as ASUS G751JY-DH71 (2499 USD). Plz tell me what is that I am not seeing here .. may be due to excitement.. :D

    Is the GT72 screen 120Hz?
The ASUS G751 and MSI GT72 are my choices but which one to buy is the question , performance should be the same but the ASUS is quieter but the GT72 more upgradable. Both have excellent cooling systems.
You guys did excellent reviews of both systems but my question to you is exactly how much louder in person is the GT72 under load? can you really tell the difference?
I keep on flopping back and forth as to which laptop to buy.
    Is it close?
How much better is the G751 IPS panel over the GT72 TN panel? I know both have their pluses and minuses but can you get almost as good colors from the GT72 TN panel with calibration?
    Thanks :)

    Ken,

Would it be possible to make ASUS G751 vs MSI GT72 comparison video? I want to get one of these laptops, but i'm still not sure which one to get...

From what I've read, the GT72 is actually quieter than the G751 when the Turbo fan is not on.

    Hi Ken
Here is the thing: the screen on my G750 is Chi Mei which comes on default @60Hz BUT, you can manually set it to a 100Hz refresh rate thru Nvidia Control Panel/Custom Resolutions,no higher than that cause of the artifacts. Even Asus Tech Support said that it's fine and that screen indeed supports up to the 100Hz.

So, that is what i wanted you to try out.

    Thank you!

What is the point? U should compare 2 maxed fan, not 1 maxed and one not.

So it supports 100hz too? If so it will be ok.

From what I understand, the Turbo fan doesn't need to be used except in exceptional situations.

Can you confirm if the battery is integrated or removable? It didn't look like you could take it out unlike the G750. :( Another step back.

Both system have excellent cooling systems and I did see temps for the GT72 during some benchmarks but what I would like to know if the benchmarks were done using the Turbo Fan profile on or off on the GT72.
It's going to be a tough choice between these 2 laptops.

Reviews or benchmarks, they always turn on Turbo. That's what i notice after alot of MSI review videos, simply because they want to know how the thing performs at best.

Would love to see temps without the Turbo Fan on then. I'm wondering what the difference would be with and without.

The G752 does not exist, but I find myself asking the same general question:

When and where can I get the G751JT-CH71? It sucks that while everyone is getting their systems, I'm stuck waiting for mine to even be available. :(

I want to buy this now just to make a disassembly video and look at the cooling system..

But it should be about the same. I am more curious about the "slim" 970m? version! And how that pipe system looks and preforms.

For me it's going to be a tough choice too, between GT72 and G751. From what I've seen so far, from reviews, the GT72 seems to run cooler than G751. The GPU temps for both are hovering around 69-70 degrees Celsius, but the CPU temp for the GT72 is around 70-71 degrees while the CPU temp for the G751 is around 73-75 degrees. So there is almost 5 degrees difference.

Another thing is that I like the fact G751 has an IPS panel, but I'm questioning myself if the ghosting due to response time of the screen being lower compared to TN panels will be an annoying thing or not. I've never had an IPS screen. People say that TN panels are better for gaming and IPS panels are better for editing. If someone can comment on it, that would be greatly appreciated.

So does it make any sense?
"Upgradeable GPU. without having an upgradeable CPU as well, what's even the point? The newer/more powerful the GPU, the more CPU power it needs to compensate for it so without an upgradeable CPU I don't see the point. Unless the GPU fails, of course..."

It does. I rather buy a new system (with new tech of design, screen, keyboard, speakers etc) after 4 years than buying an expensive chip for something outdated.

Pretty much - if you ever upgrade to say... a Nvidia 1490M in 5 years, but cannot upgrade from your i7-4710HQ, the i7 will hold back the more powerful Nvidia 1490M. These two parts of your computer need to balance and equal out, or else one part holds the other back.

Like the above poster says, you're usually better off buying something with all the parts updated after 4 years, rather than upgrading a single part. That way everything stays balanced.

G751JY models are already out. I don't know about the G771.

A lot of us are waiting for the cheaper and more upgrade friendly G751JT, which as far as we know only releases in early November.

I think a lot more people would say the same if they kept the white color! :D
(The G751 design overall is better)

The keyboard is actually sand blast finished, which looks more subdued but is more fingerprint + scratch resistant.
(I have the same finish on my SS TJ11) LOVE IT! :)

Got my G751JY - it is about 9 lbs and it is 2" tall, not 1.7". Not sure if it is a fluke or not, but it does not have optimus. I actually want Optimus as I do go away from the wall regularly.

Keyboard and touchpad and screen are all excellent though.

Did you put it on a scale, or is that a rough guess? (Specs say 10.5 pounds)

Weird no Optimus tho, says they get 4+ hours battery life.

No, but at first I was not crazy about the "new" look but it has grown on me.only thing I would change is the keyboard key colors. Red is OK but I would have liked to see more color options like there are on other laptops with programmable keyboard colors.

Rough guess with a scale - me on it and me on it holding the laptop - it could be totally wrong. it is a big beast.

About Optimus, GenTechPC's video confirms this, around 7:50 where they show the device manager, Intel is missing from the display adapters.

Someone asked about the refresh rate. I have been able to set a 70hz refresh rate through the nvidia custom resolutions and it takes and switches to it but I don't know how to verify if it is actually doing anything.

Haven't tried games yet, but I can't usually see ghosting anyway, I use IPS screens for all of my displays, so I'm used to it if it is there.

It does let me do that and the screen still works, but again, I have no idea of how to confirm if in reality the screen is displaying at anything other than 60hz.

    Thoughts?

Testufo.com reports it as 100fps, 100hz but I don't know if that is trustworthy or not....

...and in Finland about same. Cheapest goes for 1479€. I'd imagine price goes down when more retailers get their 751's. Wouldn't be surprised if it settles somewhere like 1299€ by Christmas.

UK is another place I could purchase mine... but once again they haven't heard about currency conversion. G750 was more expensive in amazon.co.uk than traditionally expensive electronics stores in Helsinki.

The G751JT-CH71 is $400 cheaper than the next version up (the G751JT-DH72) and lacks the SSD. This means that you can use that money and buy more upgrades which make it better than the DH71 version anyway. A 2 - 4x larger, 512GB SSD = $200, Then you can upgrade the ram or bluray player too, if you want.

It's just a smarter purchase to choose the CH71 instead of the DH72, if you know where to find the parts and how to install them.

My apologies. I didn't realize I was able to make a custom resolution that forces a higher refresh rate. I added a pic of what I currently have it set to run at. I will do some game testing and report my findings.
