Yes, i checked them, im just saying, the price on ASUS is not bad, if you get the same configuration they offer you, you get around the same price on custom build systems.
PD: I need 16GB Ram, i use VMWare Workstatin a lot.
My question is, there another computer same specs but better GPU, that can match ASUS price? because everyone is saying "it is underpowered by the price" and i belive its not.

Does anyone have a thoughts on Sager/Clevo vs Samsung 7, highest end laptop, that can be bought late may. Things like how long you expect it to last, noise, screen quality, specs, price. I have a general feeling that Samsung is superior, but I could be wrong.

1 win xp, 1 linux distro (varies a lot), 1 win 7
Is it good for you to have more ram running VMs? YES
Is it great to have a SSD? Much better.
And you can always buy yourself more ram latter, they have 4 ram slots in those, much like the asus has.
-
I know the asus laptops are not upgradeable, but I am guessing these custom builds are? -

i usually do big test labs, and even with the current 8GB i have, i really strugle
Adding more later, its not a really good options, since im shipping the computer to Argentina, and laptop ram is not that cheap here. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
I know your pain, I live in brazil... Last time I bought more ram here, it was R$200 for 2x 4gb sticks, my SSD I got it fairly cheap at R$650
I never ran a SQL server (intensively at least) nor ESXI, but yes more ram would be beneficial to you. -
Is the G75 even worth it if the 7970m is going to blow the 670 away?
-
if its a gamer notebook u want and 7970m being twice as fast as 670m... either wait for 680m or go with a 7970m
-
That Sager NP9170 looks beautiful, especially at that price point with 7970M and a few other changes coming out to 2.5k. However, the lack of Ivy Bridge CPU's is what makes me stop from purchasing it. Seems like a waste when Ivy Bridge is right around the corner.

I don't know what's up with all the hype. I mean, sure it finally doesn't get a weak gpu only so the notebook can be "cool and quiet", but it's just more of the same. I praise Asus for the fan accessibility and for bringing back the subwoofer. A color keyboard would spice things up by a lot. Don't you guys think?
-
honestly, if you care so much about quality and spending 2500 on a supposed POS, get yourselves an xbox for ‹1/8 the price. Its a G75 thread, and you hear more clevo, msi and AMD and 7970 than anything relevant to the thread topic.
-
But Asus does have quality, the bad thing is that it's so tired. Getting a color keyboard is like upgrading to an ssd. Msi is the new kid in town and it already superseded Asus. Even with a color keyboard, Clevo notebooks still leave something to be desired.
-
and compared to the rest i would think the g75's style and beauty is more "future proof" xD Asus might have its premiums but abit more for craftsmanship is alright.
-
So my retailer said this would be to western Canada by May 4-9thish. Is this accurate? And will the G75 have the BSOD issues of the previous models?

guess it's possible with an external PSU and treat thunderbolt as PCIE using converter but it's limited to 10GB/s, hopefully it doesn't lag too much using eGPU via thunderbolt.

I was planning to get the ASUS G75 with 670M for $1500ish.... but after hearing the news about 7970 and the BIG gap between between 670/675M VS 7970M... I will stick with the Samsung's gamer notebook with 7970... I'm sure it's about $200-$250 more.
Sorry ASUS, Samsung got me on this round -

Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
you can still get the p150em at 1500 ish with the 7970m, the samsung compensates that, much the same way as asus, throwing unneeded RAM, and adding tons of storage, it comes equipped with 2x 1tb hdd, and yes it 1900 from what I saw at provantage, but they do markup their prices so, it could be cheaper elsewhere
-
Sager doesnt look like a business computer does it? Im asking because I never seen one. I like Samsung because I can take it to work and play games while poeple dont think I am lol. As for Alienware and ASUS... I dont know. People will judge and assume LOL
-
Samsung's series 7 gamer will not disappoint. It won't cost over $2,000. The 7970m is cheaper than the GTX 675m. Look at the upgrades when you customize the Alienware M17x. Guess what? It's cheaper to upgrade the 7970m rather than the 675m. I believe that XoticPC and other websites marked up the 7970m because it simply has better performance. On Samsung's Canadian website, it says(could change or be incorrect) that the 7970m version is the 3D model, and the GTX 675m is just the 2D version. It seems as-backwards but I believe they did that because if they had a 3D version of the 675m, it would cost well over $2000. Samsung is a very smart company and they are probable very cautious entering the mobile gaming market for the first time.

I'm in need of a new laptop for college, so the G75 seems to be the way to go due to noise levels and that the reliability is good on most ASUS models. I'm looking for something that will run GW2 flawlessly on mid-high settings, and my budget is below $1700.
I'm not really concerned with getting the absolute maxed out specs for the money; I just want something that will keep quiet and cool and will last me through another three-four years, but will still permit flexibility with upcoming titles like GW2 and perhaps other games that might be released in that timeframe.
I know a bit about computers and have built some desktops, however I honestly don't know what to expect when it comes to the future of laptops. Should I get the G75 when it's released in the next few days, or should I wait a month or two in hopes that the G75 will be released with the gtx675m/680m?
I'd like to get it fairly soon as my desktop is outdated to the point of that it would require a complete re-build from the ground up, meaning it's barely capable of running GW2 due to the fact it's running a 9600GT as an intermittent card since my previous one's capacitors blew out. My deadline for a new machine is early June and I have to order by then. Should I wait in the likelihood of a gtx675/680 or do we not expect ASUS to include these cards on their new machines in the near future? -

this guy just got the G75 off bestbuy at $1279. Here's his initial review.
Review Asus G75 Ivy Bridge Nvidia 660M Laptop! - YouTube
He said he'll further test the machine and you can keep up with his results here
http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...659534-asus-g75vw-ivy-bridge-660m-review.html
$1279 seems like a pretty good price but its a G75 with a GTX660M -
Seems nice just that 660m makes it a turn off when you now know 7970 is more than twice better than the 660. Should be more like $1100 max

Wasn't the graphics card stated as being a 670m? The fact this model is a 660m is making me a lot more skeptical as to whether or not I want to purchase it.
That being said, how legitimate is this video? The fact he purchased one two days before release at a big-name chain retailer seems a bit odd.
Edit: Oh it's up for sale now on their site now. No specific model number, nor does best buy specify if it's IB or SB. Something seems a bit off.
Edit #2: Aha, looks like they will be releasing two different models with different GPU's.

So we are getting all our info tomorrow as the embargo is lifted! is it confirmed with a 670M yet?
-
Blah.Blah.BlackSheep Notebook Enthusiast
If you checked the link, TigerDirect is selling another model with the 670M for $1529 for the G75 alone with much better specs than the one on BB, and the bundle for $1559 with backpack and mouse.
-
There's an ad for these laptops on this month's Wired magazine. It links to this address:
ASUS G75vw | G55vw The Ultimate Fighting Machine
You can see the different versions there. I believe they are the same that had been posted in this thread many pages back. -
Actually I've been looking around and wow there are a lot of versions of G75. There's the three in the link above (DS71, DS72, DS73-3D), the Tigerdirect models (TS71, TS72, TS72 Bundle), the amazon model (AS71) and the BestBuy model (BBK5).
