Fremont, CA (April 29, 2012) - ASUS is excited to launch the Republic of Gamers (ROG) G75VW and G55VW notebooks. Featuring Intel® 3rd generation Core i7 processors, NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 660M/670M GPUs with up to 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM, up to 16GB of DDR3 DRAM and support for dual hard drives in RAID 0/1 operation, the new G-Series redefines what is possible in a gaming notebook. The dual-fan intelligent thermal technology ensures the system runs cooler, optional Active shutter glasses with NVIDIA® 3D LightBoost technology* in 1080P resolution, a built-in subwoofer and ASUS SonicMaster audio capabilities provides a rich and immersive gaming experience.
Intelligent Thermal Design
An abundance of performance is useless without adequate cooling. The new G Series has an intelligent dual thermal system that keeps heat away from the gamer with a unique rear-venting design. The G55VW utilizes a pair of fans to improve thermal efficiency, while the G75VW features dedicated fans for the CPU and GPU, complete with detachable fan filters to increase thermal efficiency.
Immersive 3D Entertainment
NVIDIA® GeForce GTX graphics deliver full immersion with Microsoft DirectX® 11 support and guarantee blistering frame rates with the latest blockbuster titles. The new G-Series 3D uses active shutter glasses and NVIDIA 3D LightBoost technology¹, to deliver an unrivaled experience in 3D games and movies either on the move or on the big screen at home. The visual feast is backed up by ASUS SonicMaster audio technology with custom tuned stereo speakers and a built-in subwoofer that delivers powerful and rich bass.

The slightly inclined chassis provides comfort during prolonged gaming sessions, while the rubberized soft-touch palm rest and the anti-glare matte display with a wide viewing angles reduces eye-strain during late night game sessions or media playback.
¹NVIDIA® 3D LightBoost technology is only available on the G75VW

Nervously waiting for the G55 release in Finland. Any idea about the release date
in Europe, and should I consider ordering from US (if some sites offer it)? -
So they changed the thermal design of these new models? It says the G55 uses a pair of fans, whatever that means. Hope to see a disassembly.

this might show u roughly what it means i guess. to me it still looks dedicated for both lol.

Hopefully Xotic begins listing them soon, or they reach NewEgg.
Not a fan of TigerDirect because of crappy return policies, and HIDevolution's model is the lower-tier version at $500 more than Best Buy's. -

So far the cheapest price I could find for the G55 WITH the backpack and mouse is from Prostar. It's about $10 cheaper than powernotebook ending up at $1429, only thing added was upgraded thermal compound. It might be a little cheaper for the G75 also im not sure. Heres the link to all the ASUS G laptops Online Laptops | Gaming PCs | Best Custom Gaming Laptops | Cheap Extreme Gaming Laptops | Ultimate Gaming Laptop | Custom Built Powerful Graphics Notebooks
EDIT: if you use the code "ProstarAsus" you'll get $30 off your order. Please do note that this price is using the 3$ cash discount. -

Sweet find Sound. Didn't see that site earlier.
How's their customer service? I just don't want a DOA computer that won't get taken back/refunded/replaced. -

So, is there switchable graphic cards on any model?

Do you guys think that its really worth the extra money to upgrade the thermal compounds? I think I might order from Gentech but they charge you $75 for the freakin thermal compound upgrade!

Does anybody know what's the display resolution for bestbuy and amazon models? I do believe it's 1980*1080 but I just found one of the tigerdirect model comes with only 1600*900.

Any reason you went with Gentech over prostar Sound? Prostar and TD are the only providers that carry the DS72, however both have extremely mixed reviews.

Oh yeah, through GenTech i'll be getting 1600Mhz ram rather than 1333Mhz from Prostar and most other places -
Asus G75VW Ivy Bridge 660M Review!
Looks like the GTX660M can beat 670M easily, his 660M's bandwidth is already at 86.7GB/s with a little bit of memory clock OC vs GTX670M's 72GB/s. Now he just needs to OC'd core clock by around 5-10% and the 670M will be downed. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!

I'm considering the one from Bestbuy for $1250 because it's cheap. California tax is about $109... is there anyway to avoid that? Suggestions? I would order it from Amazon but they dont have the model.
-
Also, Amazon sells their ASUS for $1499.99 (660M+DVD+16GB RAM) and Tigerdirect sells their for $1525.00 (670m+Blueray+16GB ram)
Isnt Amazon overpricing their unit? I should pay $50 for the Tigerddirect right? Better Graphics and Blueray. Or am I missing something? -
Hiya guys,
Just bought the G75 from Xotic PC. The reason I chose Xotic PC was because of the sheer amount of options I have over the ones at pro-star or anywhere else. I wasn't able to chose a Matte type display, so that really turned me off, as well as the ability to very specifically pick the brand of ram, hard drive, etc. - here's the spec I chose...

- Smart Li-ion Battery (8-Cell)
Came out to be ~$2,600, and I know that's expensive but considering the parts in this thing, it's going to definitely last me half a decade.
Reviews say it's super quiet, very cool (Temperature wise) and super solid, especially the keyboard, as it is re-enforced, and all around an awesome Desktop Replacement.
For anyone considering the 670M option, don't be a fool! The 670M uses technology from 2 years ago and is simply a rebadged GPU. Sure, benchmarks may show it outperforms the 660M, but just wait until Nvidia updates the drivers a few times, and we'll see who has the last laugh then! >D
Can't wait to play with my new toy x] Actually, the reason I chose the ASUS G75 is because I am a 3D Artist and would like to work on the move (and I'm constantly working in different locations and require a DTR for my industry), as well have the features that the 660M affords. Also, the option to choose a Matte screen is delightful for an artist, especially one who likes to work with at least some sunshine in the room (Unlike many others who want to bleed their eyes out in complete darkness).
Here's the reviews that convinced me to buy this Beast of a machine (By the way, this will be my first ASUS, I am not a fanboy. The Tech just speaks for itself.)

Asus G75VW Ivy Bridge 660M Review! -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
the 570m was launched last year. overclocked you can try to achieve that on the 660m, the problem is that 670m is a great overclocker.
the other problem is that you overpaid immensely, waste of money all around, for that you could buy the m17x and be quite happy with that. or the samsung series 7 or the np9170 or the msi gt 70.... and have a lot more performance.
dont try to pull a smart one, seriously dont try that -
I can cancel my order if need be, or return this machine within 15 days no problem. I am not object to getting a better machine at a better price! Could you please elaborate on your points Mr. MM?
I know the AMD 7970 is a hot topic recently as well, but being a 3D Artist, it means nothing to me. 3D Art and AMD do not go well and that is a fact. Other than than, please point out to me what I've overpaid for?
The fact I wanted a Kepler architecture GPU was also a deciding factor, and none of those laptops you mentioned offered that to me.
I did just create a configuration of the Sager NP9170, however, and came to about ~$2,500, with a similar spec to the ASUS, however that is with the 3820QM, which is awesome. But I am not willing to sacrifice the 660M for a better CPU. Just my preference. -
I can see that you ordered a Secondary Hard Drive.
Can you confirm - maybe with a picture - that this Secondary Hard Drive can be installed in the G55.
I think a few members here are waiting for this to be confirmed.
I had a bad feeling about it when I read that there is no RAID in the specs of G55 (here) but in the specs of G75 (here).
I want to buy a G55 as soon as it is available here in Germany but only if 2 HDDs (or SSDs) fit in (and yes, I want to keep or install a BlueRay drive).
Thanks -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
The compute power of the kepler versus fermi is quite diminished you should be aware of that, the 675m should be a better choice by far.
The sandforce based SSD that you chose is not a good buy, search for sandforce issues, there are a lot, and yes I own one, so I quite know where to point you for their defects. And no the intel 520 suffers from the same issues.
The GCN gpgpu compute power is greatly improved you also should be aware of that.
If color reproduction is meaningful to you, which I guess it might be, it would be worth to get the glossy panel.
I wasnt kidding when I stated that you overpaid, the G series is overpaying alone, it might be worth if you need more memory, since few people do really need that kind of amount that is offered, there is no benefit, and no future proof. -
Also, you don't seem to get what I'm saying about my GPU preference.
In the tools that I use, such as Maya, Zbrush, et. al., there is a severe amount of problems relating directly to AMD's drivers and the way they run with specific applications. Nvidia's drivers are specifically addressed to allow game industry developers to create such 3D work in said applications without any graphical issues.
As far as the new AMD 7970 goes, hell yeah, I'd DEFINITELY get that if I were to be ONLY GAMING on this new laptop, however, I am not. -
a gtx 660M;
intel i7 3610QM
750 Gb 7200 RPM
128 Gb SSD;
for 1350 €
If I had paid 290 for the cpu upgrade, 256 Gb SSD and extra 8Gb of ram, I would've got the same specs as you.
intel i7 2720QM
nvidia gtx 660M;
16 Gb RAM;
256 Gb SSD;
750 Gb HDD 7200 RPM;
for 1590 €
This is also a discussion and advice forum, we don't want to harass you.
Also, this is personal advice: get the Samsung 830 256 Gb SSD. It's one of the most reliable SSD's out there. -
Hmm....I very well may have been ripped off.
As far as the SSD goes, is the Sandforce really still that bad? If so, I can change it to the one you recommended! -
there are many laptops has dual hard drive bays but without RAID controller such as G73JH, G73JW, G73SW, G74 Series and G53 series. -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
In terms of compute power the kepler loses a lot when compared to fermi. just look at the reviews of the 680.
Regarding sandforce, yeah, just go for it, hope you dont get affected by those problems that still happen and are still there. The firmware didnt fix them completely. good luck -
Looks like there is no Thunderbolt on those models, after all.
-
Dual Hard Drive bays ≠ RAID
but
RAID => Dual Hard Drive bays
I just thought chances are lower when they use it in G75 but not in G55 since they are quite similar in other specs (e.g. max No. of RAM, No. of USB 3.0 ports, ...)
I don't care about RAID in my notebook but I want to have SSD + HDD.
And still nobody can confirm that 2 drives fit in the G55 (the posibility to order it is not enough proof for me).
I think we have to wait until someone who has it in his own hands can confirm it (hopefully with pictures).
So I hope SoundOfViolence already has it in his hands and can confirm it.
