The design looks nice. I like the reinforced keyboard the most. Seems like the keyboard would have little to no flex under button mashing, which is what I hate the most about my G73. 4 USB 3.0 ports is a nice touch too. And it may be thinner, but is it any lighter? LOL.

But at the end of the day, I could care less about cosmetic upgrades and improved input ports as I do about actual performance improvements, which looks to be sketchy based on the current rumors of the GTX 670M right now. Maybe the only upside to this is the Thunderbolt port which introduces the possibility of adding a desktop graphics card as an e-GPU to give it more graphical oomph.

You will be pleased by the performance increase compared to the previous G74SX. ASUS has done some really cool stuff with this new G75 series

I'm pleased by the inclusion of the numlock (I play many MMOs)

As soon as NVIDIA releases it's embargo on the 6XX/6XXm series you will be able to see the true specs.

The only thing I can say for sure is that NVIDIA is changing the hierarchy of the chips compared to last gen.

Example the 555m is now the 635m (The new N series features this chip)

"Example the 555m is now the 635m "

HMMMMMM THAT'S sure promising! Totally different than other info we've been hearing.

I assume you can't say if it uses Optimus? PLEEEEEEASE don't use Optimus! (Geez, I must know 3 or 4 people who bought the G74 besides myself because it didn't LOL)

I'd say wait for the G75, you'd need to OC the GTX 560M's core clock to at least 1000MHz to reach the level of a non-oc'd GTX 570M or 670M.

Looks like the G75 shed about an inch or so of thickness! (Give or take). Bet its probably 2-3lbs lighter too! This is indeed good news and really makes me think that the 675M is a 28nm part.

Same here. Is the GTX 670m the only option for a video card, or has there been any talk of a GTX 675m or 680m? Is July still the date that it is expected to release, and will the final details come from Asus themself at Cebit next week? I also noticed that there is just a DVD drive. Gaming laptops always have a option for a blueray drive, so that means that there must be different versions of the 17.3" model.

@ Drowningshrimp I would wait for the G75 for sure. I would like to expand more but I do not wish to violate the agreements we have with ASUS. I am a product manager for a local computer re-seller who ONLY sells ASUS units. A good deal of my customer base are in the Gamer/poweruser category. Our relationship with ASUS allows us to get a .. 'heads up' on units so we can properly market and plan our stock. I have the full spec list for the G series and am very pleased with what I see. I know that we are not the only retailer who is excited to see this new G series design. I also made sure to get my ASUS reps full approval before posting those photos.

There's always multiple SKUs for ASUS G series. I can only tell you that you will be happy with the launch line up! :)

Interesting, TechpowerUp reported that Asus will NOT have a booth at Cebit. With a launch as big as the G75, you would figure that they would show it off?

I was told i'm not allowed to disclose the release time frame or actual 'hard specs' or MSRP.

I will ask in the morning if i'm allowed to disclose what quarter it will be released in

ASUS has had a LOT of presence this year @ shows.

I also don't think that ASUS has been overly keen on just promoting it's G series line up.

Most of ASUS's biggest products have already been launched or demoed this year.

I don't think ASUS considers it's G series laptops 'mass market appeal'

I've requested a unit for testing (but I doubt I will get it as i'm not sure how high VARs are on the list. Not only that but ASUS is pretty bad about sending out test units unless it's for a VERY high volume retailer or large volume bid)

I'm not comfortable disclosing that information right now. As soon as the information becomes public I will have no problem with that :)

Stock on the G74SX is still pretty decent (I only know distro, not retail)

I'm curious to see if ASUS is going to knock down the MSRP on the G74SX

Either way, still stands the fact that users might go to the "EOL G74" instead of G75... as u can see on this forum and other talking about this release, you could talk to one of them as long as i'm against spending more than 1.6k on computer wich in one year will be at least 25% cheaper, why am i telling u that? G74 still works fine in the present market and also allows customers to upgrade their laptops pretty easy, wich many of them do this... ;)

Hi I bought my first gaming laptop, a g74sx two months ago.
So now Im wondering if I should upgrade to g75 when that comes out, but it all depends on the gpu. Since I`m new to this I have a few questions.

Since the 635m is the old 555m, what would that make the 670m? still the old 570 or better?
If it`s the old 570m how does that compare to a 560m? Bboth stock and oc`d..
I read somwhere that the ivy bridge mobile processors would be further delayed, but have a lower price then sandy bridge.
So will it still come in april with sandy bridge or will they wait for the ivy bridge to be ready?

Without a Firm, peice of hardware in-hand to review, all we can do is speculate with the data available now. From what we have seen so far, the G75 could be a 20+ bump in performance over the G74. If nVidia has been sandbagging it, then possibly more..

OK. For you. I was laughing about the part "also allows customers to upgrade their laptops pretty easy". Is this meant to be that the G74 is easily upgradeable? If yes, my LOL was right.
But you see (did you?), my G73 has a nicely overclockable 6970? In comparison of gaming power, the onboard 560m isn't an opponent. So you shouldn't lol about a G73/ATi Radeon. :p

Ivy Bridge was pushed back a few months because of lagging PC sales. Intel is trying to get rid of current Sandy Bridge stock.

As far as is it a worthy upgrade?

It really depends on what you do. This unit is superior in every way even if the 670m is a rebranded 570m (I'm not saying it is or isn't :p) It's still better compared to the G74SX's 560m.

But... i have a question, wil this kind of system worth the upgrade when not many great PC games will come out? I mean, hand it down, we will have Ghost Recon Future Soldier , Medal of Honor Warfighter ,Call of Duty Black Ops 2 (which i don't really care because it is Treyard's stuffs.) I don't know if it really worth to upgrade from the G73JH?
And i don't think i am gonna go with it right away when they release the thing, it would be like $1.800 for a brand new machine...
    Tell me your opinion.

    PS:
I should have mentioned TigerDirect and NewEggs... they always made like a sub-model which is cut something in the specs (like HDD, RAM... Blah)... and way cheaper... Could this be a good choice over the A1 and A2 series?

It depends on what you need.

This unit has all USb 3.0 ports, thunderbolt ports, higher end GPU & CPU.

If you are a light gamer (You appear to be) then there is no reason to upgrade.

Always be wary of the Best Buy and retail SKUs, they tend to be inferior (gimped down screen or GPU, less ram , smaller HDD etc.)

The G75 will have MANY launch SKUs for buyers to choose from.

Hey i need ur guys help. I was debating whether i should wait for thr g75 or jus get the g74 rite now for 1200? If theres goin to be minimal differences is it really worth an additional 600 for the g75? Or i could wait for thr g75 to come out and maybe the g74 will go to as low as 1000?

I don't know what kind of gamer i am , beacause most game i play is FPS, or something like L.A noire...
The Heaviest Game that i am currently play is Battlefield 3, and i have 60 FPS with 1280x768 and Med-High Setting...
Don't know what i am gonna do... Because next year, the price of G73 will drop like a brick...

With me... all i need is the good CPU and Not-Gimped GPU, other part can be added later/ upgrade easily... So something like a G73JH-X1 from NewEggs would be the same with a ASUS G73JH-A series when the only downside of X1 is the 500GB HDD.

Talk of $2000 for a laptop is when I start thinking about building a SFF desktop for half that price that will run circles around it. The convenience of a laptop is nice, but not $1000 extra nice for me at least...

Yes and no. You have to take in account that the G75 will have a screen, keyboard, an mouse that you will have to pay extra for if your are building a desktop. Price wise, laptops do tend to run a little bit higher than desktops. Then again, you do have the portablity of the laptops. Performance wise, the graphics card is the only real noticeable flaw. If a laptop can maintain more than 60 frames on your games, then you can't complain. The human eye can only really tell any difference at 35 frames or below. So for example. You have a laptop and a desktop that costs exactly the same. The desktop can play the game at 80 frames per/second, and the laptop can play the game at 65 frames per/second. IMO, I would chose the laptop for portability with the option to upgrade it later on if necessary.

I can see the difference in my games between 35+ and 60+FPS, 60 looks much smoother. And for $2k you're starting to get into unreasonable-for-a-laptop territory, a lot of people with these desktop replacement-type laptops never move them, I don't get the appeal of a $2000 laptop that is never moved, a SFF PC for $1k is a much better idea.
