    I admit that IF

    IF...

For just 1400 bucks they are giving us an AMAZING screen,
    a new sandy bridge
    a GREAT (looking?) keyboard
    a good design chassis
the usual 8 gb ram + double 500 hdd...
and a PRETTY DECENT 3 GB vram GPU (but I want to know HOW DECENT it is!!)...

...yeah, that would be an awesome bargain...

Just by selling my g73 I could import that thing from USA again, probably with another new SSD, repasting job and shipment without adding a single $

thought I noticed something, would that g74 in pre order lack the 3D screen?
I saw no 3D mention in the preorder spec list...
Maybe that's why it cost "just" 1400 bucks?
Still a no brainer probably... (for me at least)

3D models will most probably be made sometime after the original ones but yes not many peoples are attracted to 3D its not a good selling point on laptops sadly you would be paying 300+ bucks just for a shafty pair of glasses :(.

Again its peoples choices however i think its a waste time IMO ;).

this is what I think, but at first I thought they were going to release the 3d, thus I was surprized about such a low price...
Now that I am sure this is not a 3d variant the price is more plausible, yet I am not so happy to read here that...

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-560M.48313.0.html

This GPU may simply perform like the 5870m... which is really sad...

    Indeed sir.

Well lets hope we can re spray it and add some extra ports at the moment the MSI GT780R appeals to me unless Asus announce different models like the 6970 versions or dual 260m versions which would be cool IMO i would buy that not that they would release such a system but i love dual video cards.

The GTX 560M?!?! really? I though it was a joke but... I will hold into my G73JH for some more time then.

The 560M does not even outperform the 5870M.

I was really expecting from ASUS, to put a Radeon HD 6970M or a GTX 485M on the G74.

Sad and disappointed of this decision.

I'm really torn on what to save up and spend my money on now....

G74 is kinda "meh", and the graphics card is meh as well. Not to mention I can pick up a G73 fairly cheap online (especially considering the G73JW will be a refurb on newegg shortly)

Clevo / Sager is getting more of my attention currently, especially with the 8150 being GPU upgradable and the 4 dimms are easy to access.

I might just hold onto the cash and put it in a 12 month CD and come back later with an extra 50 bucks and a better mobile GPU market (considering the current mobile gpu market is lack luster)

Hey guys dont put the new dog in corner yet the GTX 560M will be a nice card along with the I7 sandy bridge chip nvidia just need to study the drivers better first release the chip will be terrible but after the drivers come in that's when it shines :).

Any news on g54sx in the making .
Is there any chance that it would have optimus or gfx switching .
Will it be smaller than g53 as I am considering to buy the alienware m14x.

I'm in the same boat. Kind of torn between waiting to see how the g74 actually is or just getting a sager. Not to mention that a few new Alienwares are coming out soon too.

This is another reason why I'm not touching Asus currently and looking elsewhere for a gaming laptop. Give me optimus in the G74 with a graphics card that is a solid improvement in performance over the previous generation.... currently it just re branded and not really a "huge" improvement in performance.

When the 260gm to 460m came out that was worth upgrading, but the 460 to 5 series just isn't worth my time or money.

I'm only exploring Clevo / Sager at the moment because the graphics are upgradable, the entire laptop is easy to service, and it comes with optimus.

Both the 8130 and the 8150 do not have optimus FYI.. Their mobo's are not wired for it, so it's not a matter of Bios/Drivers either. Owned an 8150 with a 485m, 510 120gb ssd, 12gb ram, upgraded screen, blueray, etc, for about a week.

What's the source that the 560m is equipped with a 3GB VRAM?

Last I heard at Cebit was a 1GB VRAM which is underpowered, even weaker than the 460m at certain aspects.
When I check notebookcheck.net, it shows a default memory of 1.5GB.

May I know where u guys found out about this 3GB VRAM?

There is a lot of conflicting reports, but the 3GB VRAM was from a Slovak website. Not too sure it's the real thing, but you can take a look.

    Its under "grafická karta"

Notebookcheck has never been very reliable in the past, I am willing to believe it's 3GB, don't think Asus would be that stupid to shove something weaker than 460M in a notebook and call it "G74".

Anyway, even with 3Gb DDR5 equipped, I don't know how well this thing is going to perform against cards like 460M/5870M, if it can't even beat 5870M, its going to be a huge disappointment, considering that's a card released on g73 about 15 months ago.

Eh. Asus put a 3gb 460m in their Lamborghini G series notebooks, simply to say "HEY IT'Z GOT MOAR VRAMZzzz...".

Since much more than 1gb is pretty useless for gaming on a card with this sort of performance ... I don't know. We'll see.

With more Vram, can you increase Memory Bus Width.
The reason why it underperformed was that it was set to 128 bit instead of 196 bit which its expected to use and the 460m uses.

Exactly plus the 560M is much more efficiently you can clock it higher i would guess and voltage increase it if it comes with 3GB of vram it will blast grand theft auto 4 out of water :).

Also who cares if it plays all games i want not really bothered just hope it can play Skyrim on high >_>.

So are you guys saying that GTX 560M won't be more powerful than GTX 460M or am I just reading wrong? So it's not worth it to wait for GTX 560M? Just go with the GTX 460M?

    Thank you

Nothing is confirmed yet, yutsmail. We haven't heard any official news from either Asus or retailers how well GTX560M is going to perform, but most likely it's just an overclocked 460M, and perhaps with more Vram, don't expect it to outperform 460M or 5870M by a fair margin, of all of the possibilities, it could be very likely worse than a 5870M, which is REALLY SAD.

From what he have seen from ASUS roadmaps the G74SX A1/A2/3DE will not be in until middle - late August. (Maybe even later knowing ASUS's history)

The G53SX is expected to come in before the G74 from what we have seen.

Ah i see. A bit confusing because they already have a 15 inch Sandy Bridge laptop out there. :p
I just thought that it had to be the smaller version of G74SX since it is SX too. But anyhow that is good. I prefer the "old" design :)

I tried searching the thread but didn't see it....

Will the G74 have a Sata 3/6bps internal port or possibly RAID?
I would love to get a vertex 3 in one of these when they're released or 2!....at the very least RAID two vertex 2's if it's only SATA 2.

Looking at the latest ROG facebook pictures of the G74 and it looks a bit better then the first video we saw. Does not have the ugly red line in the front. But still looking at the overall look its like a mutant G73. Could at least have change the look a bit more. Does not look that sealth anymore.

Designe department must have run out of ideas :D

PS. Can the admin change the threads title? I cant, would be better as "Upcoming Asus ROG G74 discussion" or something similar.
