I also heard that while assembling the device, they didn't screw the heat pipes and the fan tight enough (I saw it on a youtube vid, and the guy said that the pipes and the fans were loose). And also, the workers seemed not to get paid enough or sth, so the way they add on the thermal paste is just like kids playing with the glue if u get what I am trying to say :p

Is it a good recommendation then, if we buy a GL503, to open it and check all thermal paste used ? Actually, is it a good recommendation to always open your brand new gaming laptop and check the thermal paste ? (and fix the issue of needing more or having a better one?)

I honestly don't know. I just remember reading something over on the ROG forums. It was something along the lines of the 3rd fan resirculating the hot air.

Here are the following things I would do if I were in that case:
    1. Estimate the temps of your device will reach, like low 80 degrees Celcius (or Fahrenheit up to you) for example.
    2. Fire up the device, clean up all the junks and bloatware to make the test more precise.
    3. Run some stress tests. If the temps are meet your expectation, you don't need to do anything further. Also, try to undervolt it to see if the temps meet your expectation, too.
    4. If the temps don't meet your expectation (even after undervolting), try to open it. But before you do so, make sure to check if the manufacturer voids your warranty if you do so.
    5. Check all the screws to see if they are tightened well enough. Go back and do some stress tests to see if any improvement on temperature. If it is improved, you don't have to bother buying thermal paste for now.
    6. If not, then yeah you may have to buy thermal paste and disassemble the fans and heat pipes to repaste the CPU and GPU.
Hope you find it helpful, mate! Cheerios :)

    Thank you !!
Can anyone please help me with the undervolt process ?? is it different depending on the device? Can anyone please point me the part of the forum where this is spoken?
    Thank you !

For me, I use a software called "Intel Utility Tools." You can google it and click on the link from Intel. It's sort of difficult for me to show you here, so I will link you a video that you should fine helpful:
And for voltage, I used to undervolt the i7-7700hq on my GL502VS down to -0.1200 mV, but the temp did change, so I ended up returned the laptop and wait for this new line up to come out and see if there is any improvement!
    Cheerios!

As it looks pretty obvious just seeing that picture, it doesn't help at all if you don't re-design the whole thing to accommodate a proper air flow based on 3 fans instead of 2. You can't just slap a fan like that in there and expect magic to happen.

Here is the first look at the model with 1050 inside. And guess what? It's hot and loud. With 1050. ... Good job.

If they use the same cooling for the 1060 model then it's DOA for me.

The CPU temp doesn't look bad maxing out in the mid 70's but there is no reason a 1050 should be hitting high 70's.

In regards to looks, I think this laptop looks very good.

Anyone else find it odd that Asus used a 1050 rather than a 1050ti. Just seems strange to me.

It seems like Asus recycles the cooling for the GL503/703 Tradition because I never see they mention anything about changing thermal design like the other special models, Hero & Scar. A bit disappointed but the laptop looks attractive, not gonna lie. And for the 1050ti, I heard that it would be available in November or December, but it depends on the regions.

Yup. Same here. I would have purchased it last week but I had to pay a plumber 2 grand. I don't like digging into savings or charging things so I gotta wait another week or so.

As of right now, I'm going for the 1070 model because pricing made the 1060 model pointless. I really only need a 1060 and was hoping to see a GE73vr with a 1060 for around $1500 with a 256gb SSD. From what I read, there will be a cheaper 1060 model coming out.

By the way, if you go to YouTube and watch the Raider reviews in foreign languages, you can fast forward to the benchmarks. The Temps look really good for a laptop that size.

Nice. You just going to add an SSD?

Have you heard anything about the MSI GF72? I can't find anything on it. It is around $1500 for the 1060 model.

I've seen GF model, and I have a feeling ..... that for $250 more - you'll get so much more with GE.

I don't have the Raider but most people with it are seeing nice Temps. There are a few who need to repaste but if you order from HID with the IC Diamond, your looking at CPU temps maxing out in the mid 70's and the 1070 maxing out in the high 60's. This is while running Aida 64

They have updated the Asus Scar Edition page. It now says it has G-sync, Thunderbolt 3, and GTX 1070.

    https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ROG-Strix-SCAR-Edition/

Though I watched a recent Youtube video where it shows that they have changed the touchpad to the old 2 button style, which is extremely odd, no one should use a touch pad for gaming anyway, so that decision to downgrade it for normal use makes no sense.

    Right, that's what I said too :)

Just the one mention on the overview page of a 1070, and no 1070 model listed in the Tech Specs page.

MSI has done this before too, it sometimes takes them a while to get the copy to match, their staff only has the tech specs to offer that are given them. Maybe the 1070 model is lagging through their release cycle :)

You can clearly see from both videos, that it is the same exact chassis (the one with1050 and SCAR)
Which means only one ,sad thing. The cooling is not reworked and not beefed up. It's is the same , as it was on 702s.
I am really pissed with Asus. I was looking forward to Scar with 1060 and 120hz screen cause of the way it looks. They've nailed the design this time. Too bad they can't seem to figure out overheating and throttling issues.

The main page is updated, not the specification page. The main page now clearly states G-sync & Thunderbolt 3, and the GTX 1070 is stated a little clearer. The VD and VM version will not have G-sync or Thunderbolt 3, which is why the specification page is not updated. But the VS version with GTX 1070 will, but it's delayed.

i hope those specs are incorrect. The 15" gl503 scar might be gimped again, with just a hdmi 1.4 port .

I don't understand why they can put hdmi 2.0 in the 17", but not the 15".

Why not just get the 17"? Gaming in a 17 is much better than a 15 in my humble opinion. It just feels more immersive to me.

In regards to the Scar model, I don't know that I'd pay extra for it over the 703VM. Both will have the same specs except for the display and in my opinion, the 1060 isn't powerful enough to worry about having a 120hz display. Just get the 60hz and overclock it to 75+hz

pretty sure 1060 can handle 1080p at 120hz.
A lot of games are way over 120fps, and gsync will downclock the screen anyway, so you get maximum smoothness.

Most triple A titles will not play at or above 120hz unless you crank the visuals down.

Games like Counterstrike will however run way over 120hz.

Don't take my word for it though. The information is readily available with a simple Google search.

It just seems too much time; taking into account other vendors are already having their devices ready for Christmas and for reviews that can be done before Christmas.

True, certain games will require you to turn visuals down. Looks like the 1070 version are the ones with G-Sync, with the 1050 and 1060 having Optimus but 120Hz on certain models.

Also the 1070 version looks to have either an IPS 144hz with 9ms, or the TN 120Hz with 5ms, yet both offer G-Sync. Also the 1070 model is just slightly larger and just a tad bit heavier.

hmm looks like the laptop cooling got worse. Managing 60 degrees with a 1050 while the GL502VM manage getting to 62-63 degrees with a 1060 (same reviewer). Disappointing so far but i guess we will find out in a couple weeks.
