I think it should be able to allow for control over clock speed and voltage at least? I just want to have modded bios to underclock the GPU and (maybe) undervolt so I can keep the 6800m from going too fast and cause issues

anyone check IC Diamond for cooling with this lady? I try it too with a bit better LM but total worst valus. I try IC Diamond and LM on my GT75VR a long time ago and they were not so much different for cooling. and as i see it is not in charge did i miss something they are still alive?

 

Phobya Nanogrease and Gelid GC Extreme are more preferred traditional thermal pastes these days. I've not used the former but have had great results with the latter.

Hello all. I just got one of these like 4 weeks ago. I haven't done anything to it yet, as I haven't had time. Work has been insane (hospital IT employee) with COVID spiking again. Does the consensus seem to be that if we have 1xR8 ram, we are not jacked on performance like the earlier models that had 1xR16? Also, do we have any RAM kit recommendations? Cheers!

 

Hi mate so far i answer with a yes find here the datasheet 8GB (x64, SR) 260-Pin DDR4 SODIMM (mouser.de). regarding the datasheet is the memory single rank if you want dual rank you can try this one Crucial SO-DIMM Kit 32GB, DDR4-3200, CL22-22-22 (CT2K16G4SFD832A).

Another opition would be HyperX HX432S20IBK2/32 or Fury Impact KF432S20IBK2/32. regarding the datasheet HX432S20IBK2_32.ai (gzhls.at) you can see what they should run with JEDEC.

Or G.Skill Ripjaws F4-3200C22D-32GRS but for this one i can't find a datasheet with information about xmp and jedec.

A few sites before must be one more possible choice for memory.

Some more Settings in the bios would be awesome and therfore i try to get an mod bios with some more features with the help of the bios-mod.com team so far i was not able to create a dump file for them which they can use

 

Update regarding mod bios for our ladies...
1. i try several programmer applications and noon of them seems to identify the chip
2. there seems to be something like a security part which request a secret key so far i understand the datasheet correct
i asked the guys in the bios-mod forum and they confirm that it can be possible that both points above are given.

so far i try to find a shop where i can buy this chip to go further but so far it looks like that this chip is not offer to buy anywhere atm.

 

Anyone else running into the random reboot issue?

I have had it happen 3x times to me so far in the past 10 days.

Yeah - updated AMD display and chipset drivers. Windows is also up to date.

It is hard to reproduce the error and I *think* it has only happened while not using an external display. I have until Wednesday for the return window at BestBuy.

i had similar issues with my 3700X and 5700 XT Gaming X and solution was not the latest driver version but a driver which was the last whql driver in 2019.

Thank you for sending this I need to find a replacement for the right side I bought the system and took apart the heating to make sure liquid metal was nice feeling over I’m glad I opened it because it was definitely too much in there however the right side fan is messed up

It is not to much i do the same and had poor temps. Recommendation here and i think the same. I do not change the paste on the other parts.

 

I ordered now Kingston FURY Impact 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz DDR4 CL20 Laptop KF432S20IB1K2/32.
And i await another clip for reading the bios chip.

 

I come back with a question because i can't find the answer on my own here.
After using the passiv cooling how big was the temperature decrease ? Under 10° or more?
Maybe some pictures from before and after?

 

Unfortunately I don't have before and after comparison pictures, but before the memory of the 970 Pro was reaching 90C+. Now it doesn't reach that hot.

So for those of you who want to know if the cooling is useful.

just one picture after build in the cooling and running then crystal disk mark as you can see the Sabrent 2TB has 14° less and the Samsung PM991a hast 12° less. i could imaging that a high work load - not gaming - could be benefit as well. Gaming maybe a little i don't check the temperatures befor and after some gaming session.

Confirming my unit purchased July 31st from BestBuy has the dog doo doo 1R16 RAM. Both sticks are that. Going to need new RAM. I saw someone who said that they got a laptop with better ram from the factory. I tried to order some from Amazon, but my order is now backordered.

 

Does any one have the issue where when gaming the cpu clocks drop to 400mhz then back up and repeat ? The temps was around 93c

Try to get the Kingston FURY Impact 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz DDR4 CL20 when you got them for a good price.
I can confirm the better RAM. i had 1RX8 CL22 Single Rank from Factory in my G15

So far not did you repaste the cpu?

Looks like that the G15 benefits with the AMD 21.8.2 driver all three runs get 12.000K in gpu score.

 

Don't use Turbo mode for gaming. Stick to performance mode or create your custom profile.

I run 75% fans and 180W.

I will do l ater runs with silent and performance mode. but be sure that the other modes don't get 12K at GPU score.

Not really much but system is running more smooth i also installed the new amd chipset driver which gets now Windows 11 support added.

Any encountering frame rate drops when playing a game and watching a video? Regardless if I'm using an external monitor via hdmi or not, whenever I play Diablo 3 and watch some video whether it's Youtube via Chrome or a local video file via Media Player Classic BE. The frame rate drops from around 112 fps to 60 and as low as 15 fps. On average it would bounce between 20 fps to 60 fps. When I check the CPU usage, the RX 6800m is only using around 22%. I force the MPC to use integrated graphic, but that didn't help.

When I force Diablo 3 to use integrated graphic, it tops out around 78 fps. When I play a local video (via MPC), Diablo 3 tops out around 66 fps (locked). How can this be? Using integrated graphic yields a more stable frame rate.

Anyone has fix/workaround?

I need a additional storage stock SSD 512 GB i will use for windows. Disk read and write speed doesn't matter as long as it doesn't impact gaming frames per second. Loading times i can live with it. Or its mandatory to get another SSD ? anyone try gaming with the lid closed? i wonder if its just a placebo effect but it seems to run warmer. i read somewhere that it uses a sensor to monitor heat on keyboard as well as some vents from the top, but i only read that in one place and havent found any verification on that.

 

I’m sure the radiant heat above the keyboard is getting trapped a bit more inside of it causing a higher temp.

I’d keep it open a bit with a USB fan blowing across it and see if it drops the temps even further.

 

Which driver version from AMD did you use currently? And you use Windows 10 or 11?

You can only use M.2 SSDs which supports the nvme protocoll there is no space to use a 2,5" HDD or SSD and the both M.2 Slots don't support the sata protocoll.
If you want do gaming only i would say 16GB is enough for the first time. you can use it and check if 16 GB is enough or not.

if you want to buy it then buy 32GB it makes no sencd to change 16GB with another 16GB. or you check if you have 1RX8 CL22 Single Rank in your device if yes there is not really a reason to change it in my opinion. but it is your choice if not really needed i would recommend to use the factory memory and buy new memory later.

I have good experince with sabrent i use a 2TB PCIe 4x Gen 3.0 and a 1TB Rocket Q4 PCIe 4x Gen 4.0 nvme ssd M.2 in my gaming rigs.
