Hey, i noticed you have the GL704GV with rtx 2060, could you please save a copy of your firmware and post it here? I used the updated firmware from the Asus driver list and would like to roll-back and don't have a copy saved..

All it takes is downloading GPU-Z and 1 click-save, like here:

    http://nvidia.custhelp.com/rnt/rnw/img/enduser/gpu-z.png

    Thanks

Hi guy's... i don't post nothing from a couple of days because my 704gw is dead, and i had to send it on assistance to repair. Motherboard is dead and assistance need to order the new part so i have to wait because the don't have the part at the moment.

This is the first time that a laptop is dead in 2 month from the buy, incredible. I already extended warranty to 3 years for a security purpose. This is not a good signs, but can be just a bad luck.

    So...

My Scar is still hitting 92 degrees after repasting with liquid metal.. but before it was 100 degrees.. whats wrong with this computer? why its getting so hot? lots of bios also come out but anyone have made a big difference on heat problems

The CPU and GPU share the same cooling system...the RTX 2070 gets really hot so that gets the CPU hot..you can set a thermal limit on the GPU. I know this because the GV version is much cooler and the only difference is that has rtx 2060.

Since the GPU & CPU share a cooling system as mentioned above, if I switch the Preferred Graphics Processor to be the RTX 2070 globally in the Nvidia Control Panel (since my laptop is used as a desktop replacement and generally always plugged in), does anyone know if this would increase system temps, have no effect, or decrease them?

It would rise idle temps by a bit also would rise load temps when no games are involved (like for example programming work), would not change <game> load and max temps.

another weird thing thats annoying is the battery time.. i put it into power saver mode in windows.. set max cpu to 30% in advanced power menu but the battery drain really fast, without gaming just webbrowsing i get max 1h .. in this mode its just a i7 with intel gpu 630 ..

2 weeks has passed and my 704gw is still on assistance. they said that first repair (new motherboard) was not succesfull (i'm just wordless) and needed to order another new motherboard, i just hpe that this time things go in the right way because this is really strange.

It already was strange the way laptop died (perfectly working when i go to sleep, and finded totally dead at the morning), but now is very strange that even the new motherboard they ordered was faulty...

for my luck and mental sanity i extended warranty with 3 years options, i have a bad feelings about this laptop, i really hope that are not rtx series pretty faulty as happened years before with 8000m series or 6xx (macbook for example)

I have the same issue here, but mine GL704GW died in less than 2 weeks.
    No overclock, nothing. All stock.

Just went BSOD while i was watching movie and never booted up again from neither media/storage both internal and external. Every boot from windows 10 installation ISO or anything else resulted in immediate BSOD every time with different error message. Returned the device with full refund.
I have huge beckground over 15 years with notebooks but have never seen anything like that before.

The beast tfinally come back a couple of days ago... on assistance report result that they changed 2 times motherboard (so even the 1 repair part was faulty, incredible!). I think that first motherboard have a bad cpu, because the i7 in old mobo scores about 3000 points on cinebench r20, that is almost insane for an i7 8750h... the new motherboard scores about 2700 point that is the right value for an 8750h... anyway, i added 3 years warranty, so i will stay calm for this period

Very few laptops get that hot..on mine the plastic started deforming (like a pond) near the power button..returned..if not i'm sure with time a hole would have formed there.

anyway i don't understand if my laptop with the new motherboard (or the repasting maked during installation of new motherboard) is hotter than before... or if just a direct cause of summer days. I think i have to wait autumn to have the right answer

    Hi,
i'm facing the same issues about temperatures... i tried to apply all advice in this thread but i cannot undervolt my cpu more than -60mV... My temperatures are anyway high so i don't know what to do, except repasting (which i'd avoid at this time since my laptop is 1 month old!).

The only one thing that really worked by now is limiting the cores turbo... i came down to x38 for all the cores (instead of the 41-41-40-40-39-39 by default)
Temperatures have dropped significantly (from 95c cpu / 86 gpu to 83 cpu / 73 gpu)...
So my question now is: is this a correct way to lower the temps? or lowering cpu turbo is not a right choice?

    any other advice?
    thanks a lot!

i don't why this hype about high temperatures. Pc is perfectly fine because all this laptops with 8750h are made to 95-98 degrees when operating. I play with cpu locked a 2.8ghz with throttlestop at about 80 degrees (is fine for 60 fps gaming, cpu doesnt lock gpu performance in this case). All this pc's have high temps, look alienware m15, razer blade etc etc... only option to lower it by a big margin is liquid metal but i don't reccomand it, cause of corrosion and probable leak out of dissipator. You can repaste with better paste, like kryounaut or gelid extreme or notctua nth2, but you can gain 3 to 5 degrees max, and onestly i don't know if that gap value the maintenance time to spend...

Anyway, you don't risk anything, if motherboard die (like on mine) this die for total other problems (i have 75 to 80 degrees in thhe past tmonths, and mobo died) when on my older gl703vm in 1 years i played all the time at 90 to 96 degrees and was just fine...

Thanks for the answer. I'm not scared about temps or anyway i don't care too much about it, but i do care about thermal throttling. As my computer has thermal throttling issues, i'm trying to find a (partial) solution about it, since all the other advice in these thread have had poor results to me! :)

how much throttle did you have? this verifies in gaming or benchmarks? Only cpu or gpu too? there are many variables to look at

    well,
i've some peaks (maybe 5 to 10) in temps (about 97c/99c) in about 1 hour gaming.... it's only about cpu and not in benchmark, only in gaming...
To be more precise i've throttling only using Assetto Corsa Competizione which is not well optimized yet... i don't know if nvidia would release a new driver soon or game developers will patch it somehow.
I believed that with this beast i'd not have problems anyway!
(With other games temps get high but no throttling or much less)

assetto corsa competizione is the worst game optimization i ever seen...just tried a couple of days ago and uninstalled. Limit cpu at 2.8ghz with throttlestop and you will have at least 10 degrees advanted with no fps loss. Then if your pc is single channel ram, add a another stick of ram and you will gain 10-30 fps and much more stability because optimus bus and cpu buus are not sufficient for 2070 bus.

Thanks again for your reply. i've already added the second 16gb ram stick, changed ssd with samsung 970 pro and added a firecuda 2tb SSHD...
on assetto corsa (the first one) i reach 180 fps (epic settings), on Apex Legends almost 100fps (epic settings) ... these are the only games by now i've installed :)

I'll try what you suggested about cpu limitations. how do i have to limit the cpu? entering in FIVR option and changing turbo limits by lowering the turbo ratios, or entering the TPL option?

    thanks again

in fivr change turbo ratio limits (in every core) to 28... i use even 25 at times, because many games are just not bothered for 60fps...

another tip, if you have a display or a tv use this with display port (or an hdmi to display prt adapter) instead of laptop monitor or hdmi port because display port is directly attached to rtx 2070 and have full bus... hdmi or laptop screen have optimus so bus is limited cause of intel gpu that render the screen

It worked! turbo ratio limits @ 28 keep temps around 78/80c. In assetto corsa competizione i was able to run epic settings with 60fps average (i play on a connected 21:9 AOC monitor which lower the framerate compared to the laptop monitor). As you mentioned, i already have a DP cable connected to the monitor!

    thanks again!

you can lower it even at 24 or 25/26 depends by the game cpu use... from my exeperience even at 2.5ghz there's no issue on fps side, couple of drop on 2.2-2.4 but nothing major actually...

bios 307 is out on asus site...i already updated it, seems a bit cooler when under load (cinebench) but scores are lower on cpu side, 2580 points (307) vs 2650 (306). Nothing major but i don't love when scores are lower...

i dont know what im doing wrong but every time after i try reinstall the computer the fans goes nuts as fast i install armoury crate... from silent to 100% up and down all the time.. ?? when i reinstall and not install armoury crate the computer is silent and the fans starts slowly to increase when the laptop gets hotter.

Is armoury crate totally crap? or is the all this Rog Live service **** that is the proplem? is armoury crate really necessary?

Anyone here who overclocked/downvolted the RTX2070? i have search the web for some laptop overclocking but nothing fits my needs. First of all i would know if it's possible to gain some fps and then how to do that!
I tried with MSI afterburner following some guides but i can't see any difference.
    thanks!

you have to use msi afterburner... but depends on temperatures i don't reccomand. Oc depends much unit by unit, is not the same for all models... for example my actual 704gw goes stable up to 150 mhz on core, my older motherboard (changed on warranty) can oc the gpu up to 200 mhz totally stable. On memory side you can go stable up to 400-600 mhz (even 1000mhz at times on gdrr6 that use this rtx card). You can gain 3 to 5-6 fps... honestly i don't reccomand espacially on summer with high ambient temps... and then i don't know if that have sense because this rtx can push 80-100 fps at ultra settings, you really want to push the card for 3 fps more? Instead buy another stick of ram if you have a single channel, dual channel will gain 10 to 30 fps, much better gain respect to the oc...

i recommend everyone to reinstall a clean windows and dont install anything from asus after that... then you got a new laptop that works as it should... completly quiet at webbrowsing, 43-50 degrees , no battery drain (lasts for 3h) and a fan that dont goes nuts all the time... also maxtemp at gaming have decreased.. only energy mode "balanced" is availible but thats good enough

never worse advise than this.. armoury cratte is a good software, the problems that you have is because you was in turbo mode and fan go up (it's make for this purpose the turbo mode). There's a "silent" mode (that you don't have without armoury) that force the fans, cpu and gpu to work in a "fresh" silent way and in my experience is one of the best out there.

You basically doesn't know abything about how it work this software, without you have only balanced mode because is the only one avaible in windows... installing armoury (and the services need to make it work) you will have 3 profile:

-silent=use power saving profile of windows+ low rpms and low rpms governor to a max of 4000rpm when needed power
-balanced=high performance profile of windows+ balanced rpm and a much faster governor to a max of about 5000 rpm when needed
-turbo=high performance profile windows+ fastest max rpm and fastest governor curve to a max of about 6000 rpm
-manual=high performance profile windows+ manual fixed rpm or rpms curve that goes from fanless to maximum 6800 rpm.

Now, over this "automatism" from asus that is INSANELY good, you can even change windows power plan AFTER you switch profile in armoury. Example you can use turbo mode but after you set ti you can go in windows power plan and customize the performance profile that this use or even switch to balanced. For example i have all profile customized, from silent to turbo to my purpose.

So armoury is just necessary to make laptop working at max possibility and is anyway needed to enable other features such as panel overdrive that make display refresh rate lower to 3ms.

NEVER DO BAD tip if don't understand how it works a thing.

of course i know there are 3 even 4 fan modes .. BUT if dont work as it should? even in silent mode my fans get up and down.. 0 or 100 percent.. also my battery drained from full to empty in 50 min webbrowsing... after a clean install and dont use asus software my battery lasts for over 3 hour....

i tried reinstall all asus software 3 times without success .and i know many people have heat problems with this laptop so if its a bad tip??? no way... YOU dont understand...

feel free to try,, if you donty like it you always can reinstall asus **** programs ..if you know how to do it ;)

if in silent mode your fan go at 100% (6800 rpm) silent mode is basically not working, as probably all other modes... you have to install all related services to make it work properly such as intel thermal framework, armoury crate service, asus keyboard hotkeys, and just at last the real armoury app. Then you have to learn how work things as i explained in other post.

My battery in silent mode last about 4.5 hours in browsing and movie with cpu cloked at 1ghz... i repeat you probably make something erratic during reinstallation of windows and armoury isnt working properly.

There are instructions on all installs and i picked them every one.. so maybe my machine is kaputt.. but why does it work without armoroy crap? Something makes my laptop goes nut with that program or the live services. Also i got 100 degrees on cpu . i bought a laptop that someone before me has so put back to the store so i never got it with all programs pre installed. Read other forums and you will find plenty of people with battery drain and heat problems..also why is there so many new bios in so short time? Something isnt as it should be with this laptop

because probably all people use pc just in balanced mode that use high performance power plan with cpu maxed at 100% that increase heat when gaming and even when not... when people read silent mode think "ahhhh this is useless, i want powa" and then start complaining about battery life (lol, battery life at 3.9 ghz when cpu pulls 40 watt) or heat.

As i suggested to another guys the best way to limit heat when gaming is turbo mode combined with throttlestop with cpu locked at 2.8 ghz, no fps and 10 degrees better temps...

Thanks for your reply! I already bought the second 16gb ram stick and but i cannot play Assetto Corsa Competizione on epic settings...
And there's another issue related to this game... after about 1 hour playing, the game start to have micro freezing: every 5-10 seconds the game freezes for a moment... i cannot explain why... cpu and gpu are about 78c, all seems ok. i'm very disappointed :(

is just the game bad optimized... rtx 2070 OCed on desktop pc in pratice mode goes with dips at about 48 fps (and the desktop is basically 400mhz faster than the our laptop version)... i tried assetto competizione, and is just one of the worst optimization i ever see beetween need for speed payback and a couple of other games

Thanks a lot! i'm a little happier hearing that! :D

About your previous post about armoury crate... i love that app... but....
i installed a 970pro replacing the original ssd and so i installed a clean windows 10... after that the armoury crate never shows the cpu frequency/temp and the fan rpm... i can only see gpu freq/temp... fan mode still works but i don't know why of that issue...

you have to install intel thermal framework (if you don't have it installed, search on control panel because can be auto downloaded from windows), then asus keyboard hotkeys, then armoury crate service, and just for last the armoury app... should be good like that

i think that's better if you use the order... but maybe doesn't matter and you can just remove armoury servvice and then reinstall this only thing. Before you make all of this, search con control panel wich versione of armoury service, live service, you have installed

5th try... and now in silent mode the cpu is 48 degress and the fan loops 0- 4500rpm all the time.. no way this is normal..!!!!!!!!!! someting sucks very hard with this computer... new reinstall tomorow and now i dont install any of ASUS bloatware programs... i can live with just balanced mode because its 10000 times more quiet than silent in armoury crate

I tried as suggested but it doesn't work :(
uninstalled armoury crate, then armoury crate service. asus hotkeys and intel thermal framework already installed and untouched. Reinstalled first armoury crate service, then armoury crate and finally the asus update package.
but again i have only gpu data and gpu fan data working... nothing about cpu! Plus, i don't have the scenarios option ..... i'm a little upset!
armoury crate version is 2.3.5 (downloaded from Windows store) and the armoury crate service is the last one provided by asus on July 15th.

    no more ideas

it also make me crazy.. for me the fans shows the right value.. but sometime its shows 0 rpm but the fans goes around 5000 ... have also tried many different installs and none have worked correctly..

If everything was normal ... then install a few simple blotware program would be the easiest thing in the world... Something is nuked with this laptop or asus software

it wasn't installed... then installed, but same as always... cpu data not work. it's not a big deal as i use hwinfo64 + throttlestop... but i ask myself why previously it worked and now it doesn't!

Anyway... (since all in here are much more expert than me) what if i see some white artifacts randomly shows up on my 21:9 connected monitor while gaming? it comes as horizontal white stripes in some part of the monitor... it shows up for a brief moment approx every 2 to 5 minutes...
I know it could be wrong downvolting/overclocking but i see this also with default gpu settings...
could it be due to low cpu freq (28x multiplier on throttlestop)?
could it be due to v-sync/gsync issues? (i use a AOC AG352QCX connected to the laptop via DP)
could it be due to not optimized graphic engine of ACC? (yes, again! :D) ... i mean, is it possible that a non-optimized game can cause this kind of artifacts or it's a hardware problem?

    thanks again!

well you have to to some test:
    -try another game
-try disabling gsync with the erratic game
    -try disabling any undervolt/oc
-try in hdmi (monitor should be drived by the intel... even if in my laptop after intel driver of june this is drived by rtx too lol, i don't understand this things at times)

After those tests you can find the answer
