i just think that something is really WRONG with your pc, starting from armoury behavior, till this 1 hour web browsing problem... i think that your rtx 2070 is still active as primary gpu when on battery instead of using optimus...

if you want a good tip, restore the laptop with secret partition from asus (should be present as usual) and try if ALL (frequencies, battery, armoury) work good... if the answer is yes= you made a mess, if the answer is no=you have a hw fault and you HAVE to send on warranty.

Anyway if i was you i will NOT repaste with liquid metal as you did because to do this you have to unscrew the screw with triangle lable that is a warranty mark, so you basically now have just no warranty... bad choiche my friend, you just wronged EVERYTHING in troubleshooting and in operations to do. NEVER go against warranty mark when you have it and laptop doesnt work good. NEVER.

I already have repasted it before.. so i did it again so the problem was already there.. if i dont i have send it on warranty for long time ago :) but the battery drain was there from the beginning.

Im not so stupid as you think ;)

Hi everyone. I want just ask, whether on 704 are the same problems as in 504, I mean fps drops for 50%? How about throttle after repasting? Is it? And is it true that on external monitor there is 10% FPS more, due to direct GPU - monitor connection in opposite to hybrid iGPU and dGPU? Is it possible to switch off the iGPU?
And how about lower performance due to one channel RAM?

1=i have no fps drops on my 704, such as don't notice about fps loss on 504 that work on the right way (i spotted some guys with software problems on youtube that have fps loss, and was just a software mess that i suspect they made in some way).
2=pc works good even without repasting (i didn't on my unit for example, temp's are high but in the working range of intel and nvidia)
3=is not even 10%, sometimes yes, sometimes could be much lower, 1-2%, but yes there's a bit of improvement cause of direct bus of nvidia in display port
4=is not possible to switch off IGPU because display laptop is connected to this

of course dual channel is needed... i upgrade on dual channel a couple of weeks ago, i've gained 15 to 50 (50!) fps on some games...

Ok, my last question, I've read the thread, but there's kinda mess. How about throttle and temps (before repasting and after)? And how about temps with fan modes, I had only msi laptops, Asus never before. Does it have any strange problems? How to do repasting without voiding a warranty? Only ASUS service?

504 and 704 doensn't have max q, only full spec 2070. so, check better with other programs... could be just a naming error

also Corsairs iCUE makes my laptop go nuts.. looks like as fast i got other "services" to start its get in conflict with armoury crate.. the laptops get hot around 60 in idle and fans goes up to 4900rpm in Silent mode.. then i uninstalled the software and the laptop gets quiet again..

i really hate this laptop and cant recommend it to anyone..

i don't have any problem with afterburner (i use it every day to use my custom voltage curve for lower the temps)... still don't have any problem with armoury xD

My only problems is nahimic services that by about 1 month goes nuts after a windows update... but i'm pretty sure that with a clean format this problem does not present because a my friend with another 704gw doesn't have any problem.

So... is big time that i repeat to you to send your laptop on assistance because all the problems you have (voltage, temperature, fans curves) are just not normal. Your pc (or your configuration of windows after formatting) is screwed up in some ways, if not software is for sure hardware.

ah anyway, use afterburner or any other programs to oc gpu only when you games, because when you open those programs nvidia 2070 remains ever active (this is the normal behavior for all laptops with nvidia optimus)

today i tired different settings on curve editoor on afterburner...

i used to had 2 profile: 1= 1410mhz at 700mv (less heat, over 10 degrees cooler than stock, and more or less 10% less performance than stock), 2= 1500mhz at 713mv (better than stock performance at about 5 degrees cooler).

Now i just create 2 new profile: 3=1570mhz at 737mv, 6% better performance than stock and 2-4 degrees cooler; 4=1605mhz at 743mv, 8-10% better than stock and 1-2 degrees cooler than stock.

Considerations, if like me you games at 60fps, you can use 1 profile that i mention, and play at about 70 degrees, cooler, and no stress for dissipation. If you use 144hz gaming or very heavy AAA games that are a problem to reach 60fps (new Control RTX for example) you can create a profile like my 5, and gain 5 to 10 fps, that are IMPORTANT to reach 60fps... or at least 48fps (fps in sync with display).

Obviusly test carefully because not all gpu's are the same, and any unit have much different sensibility. For example my older motherboard support 200mhz oc without curve tuning, on my new mobo here can oc max to 150mhz without crashing...

Seems to be very nice, especially profile 2. Want to try it myselft but don´t know exactly how. Do you can explain it, or post a picture how it looks like?
I don´t need overclocking, but if i can overclock it, with a lower temps as stock, this will be a good deal :)

actually if you don't know how it works is just better to don't try because there's still a bit of risk... so maybe it's better to see some tutorial about msi afterburner and curve edit on laptop.... here's screenshot of my curve of the 2 profile

no, they just changed motherboard 2 times when it was on assistance (they said to me that even the 2nd mobo was faulty and they ordered a another one). They took the pc for 1 month, because after the first mobo they had to wait again for the 2ns mobo.

Actually this mobo i think that's perfect because i have it now by 3 months and i don't have neither of all the little signs of the older faulty mobo such as the left speaker that was stopping working after a couple of weekes.

This mobo is much hotter than the original ones, and turbo is lower, on the original faulty i was boosting the full 3.9ghz without any drop at about 90-92° degrees (3000 points on cinebench r20), on this new mobo cpu run almost immediatly at 95° and then throttle to 3.3-3.4ghz at about 87-90° (cinebench score 2650-2700)... even gpu oc is less than the older one, the older have a stable full 200mhz OC on the core, this new mobo only allow to a 150mhz, so a 1/4 of the older.

But i love this pc at 360° degrees, is just a perfect machine, well built, nice dissipation (even if it runs hot but this is still a beast of specs), great screen (except for pixel density), great audio. So maybe is not a 10-10 and some other laptop are even better on some things, but this is the perfect equilibrium on ALL sectors.

Anyway on the future months i will repaste it, because i have the feeling that assistance used a slightle cheaper thermal paste than the original one from the asus fabbric. I will put a kryounat or a mastergel, but not before than next summer, because i had temps on control even in the full summer with MSI curve and limiting cpu to 2.6ghz (that was perfect for 60fps gaming).

I am now a part of this family :D

Should I do a clean windows installation? How are the undervolt values? I have the rtx2070 with 8750h.
Is bios update critical? I generally dont do them unless they are absolutely necessary

You sure bios doesnt screw with anything else? I have some asus laptop with 970m last time I updated the bios it refused to read my pcie m.2 ssd so windows never booted, somehow they screwed up something and didn't bother to fix later on. I had to do some magical trick to downgrade bios.

    Hello dears,
I purchased my Scar II 2 months ago and I am really disappointed about the lack of updates from ASUS: for sure my next will be an MSI or I will back to my old love, the Alienware.

I am writing you about the Type-C port: does it is supported the video streaming? I connected an external display with Type-C support but it doesn't work.

So I got my laptop I am happy with it so far, the display is good. I have a couple issues though.

The goddamn fans are so noisy even when there is no load. What the hell prompts it to work so loud when there is less than 10% cpu load and no gpu load?

There is optimus. Mixed feelings about this. At least it will improve battery. Probably can be disabled from bios. But didn't check bios yet.

The undervolt for cpu is too little at least for me. I only managed -120 which isnt actually stable. -115 is better for stress tests but for gaming -120 seems to be fine. Better than nothing but still...

Rtx 2070 behaves interesting.....during benchmark sometimes it ramps up to 1800, way above boost value of 1400 mhz but has a very little load when it happens. I dont know what prompts this. The clock/volt curve is insane, i guess they use the same for every 2xxx gpu. I havent played it much, i am not sure how to undervolt it properly by maximizing performance. Boost cap is 1440 for laptop 2070, can I go above that? Anyone tried? Thermals seem to be fine. 230w power brick is fine also. But its probably capped to some limit.

Also what kind of an idiot thought putting fan to the right side was a good idea? How do i prevent my hand from burning?

The armory software. Can i make the keys white and the logo and led change colors?

How does the fan act? Noisy even in silent mode? Before my was on service i could have cpu 47degrees and fan 5100rpm in silent.. now they dont go over 3000.. and most of time at 0rpm

No not that bad. Balanced puts it at 3k-4k rpm and around 60C cpu but the fans are pretty audible.
Silence mode puts it at 2k-3k. This is much better. Also I undervolted cpu by -120 too
My bios is version 305, looks like there is even 308. Pretty scared about updating bios. Its like the most important software in the computer and they dont even bother putting a damn changelog!

use silent mode in normal use... useless to let this beast run in balanced or turbo that lock the cpu in 3.9ghz basically ever (at least when not gaming). Silent mode is just a quiet profile (very good profile actually in terms of fan tuning) from a ultrabook style laptop. If you need a bit of power use the windows profile in armoury and in windows power management set the base frequencies for cpu at 0% instead of 100% that is useless. Is not good as silent mode but is pretty good too.

I just took it from my previous Asus laptop, a 2.5 inch seagate hdd and it was slightly thicker than the frame that the nails didnt really align correctly. So I didnt nail it all :D now it just sits in the frame like that. Laptop itself wont move much and its stacked alreadyso it shouldnt be a big of a deal? :S Anyone wants to explain why I couldnt do it? :/

Installing the second ram increased the time spy score by 300 immediately. However, my undervolt of -115 started giving errors now. Maybe cpu is more intensely used now due to ram IDK. So I reduced the undervolt to -105 and it seems stable so far.

I also did some optimization for the gpu. In the end, my time spy score is 7700. Good enough for me. More knowledgable people can do better probably. Gpu max 82 degrees and 83 occasionally. It throttles due to power, however. Not because of thermals. It peaks at ~1605 mhz.

They wouldnt have increased power limit with bios updates, right? Power brick can handle it. Cooling system can handle it.

Cooling is much better than I expected. But fans are pretty loud :/

like all 8750h...you are perfectly normal. The only way to immprove thing is to use a better paste like kryounaut or liquid metal (i don't like it anyway, too dangerous liquid metal on a laptop)

using custom curve on gpu is important... then is useless to let cpu run at 3.9ghz in games, useless heat for nothing, 3ghz is more stan enough for gain stable 100+ fps and 2.6ghz is fine for 60fps gaming (like i do, 144hz is just a marketing thing to sell better gpu in a moment where gpu are too powerfull for current games [or better, games of last yers, last ones are heavy]))
