This laptop was #1 on my list, but if it does not arrive prior to 2015 i'll have to pull the trigger on something else. Does any other system come close to this slim design/specs? 15-17inch
-
My theory is due to the delayed 4K panels they are now waiting for Broadwell.
Closest to this are the Clevo P650SE/G, Gigabyte P35W/X v3 and MSI GS60. -
moviemarketing Milk Drinker
No idea, but my guess is most of the new thin gaming laptops will use 970m instead of 980m. -
I think I just found the reason to get the P35xV3 over the GX500 which may have the 980M and that is the VRAM. All asus laptops seem like they are having the 4GB version of the 980M. So if you want more VRAM that is your option.
BUT.
If 4GB is enough for games for a while. The better screen of the ASUS will be the best bet. -
Kinda ridiculous... they present the GX500 in june and then won't deliver them until 2015...
As a member in this forum already said: "ASUS announces something, then you wait and wait and wait...but nothing comes. A year passes and ASUS announces their next notebook - while you are wondering about that, you find out that the notebook models announced last year were briefly available for 1-3 months prior to the next announcement (and maybe already gone as well)."
I initially thought this can't be true, but obviously it is. Seriously... a joke.Xentar712 likes this. -
i'd pull the trigger on aorus x3 plus which is an absolute beast and great looking slim laptop or if you are willing to go 17 inch the new aorus x7 that currently runs 2 gtx 860 in sli and soon probably will get 2 gx 960 in sli.
edit: the x7 pro is already announced! X7 Pro has TWO nvidia 970m cards running in SLI, total of 6 gb vram. i hate 17 in laptops but i'm strongly considering this one. -
It's also very expensive and runs hot and loud under load, maybe the 970M's will help with the heat produced but I don't see it running any quieter.
Your better off with a single GTX 980M and get about the same performance as 970M SLI.
Just my opinion. -
According to gearburn, the GX500 is expected to come out in Q1 2015, but they mention that it still has a GTX860M...
-
With Maxwell, 970M SLI scales by double so not really...
-
Yeah, a SLI setup 970M is probably comparable or better then a desktop 980 in SLI optimised scenerios, so it would be better then a 980m
-
I said get about the same performance not the exact same performance, I know 970M's in SLI would get better FPS with with SLI optimized games but with either set up you can get at least 60FPS maxed either way you choose and that's what really is important.
Now back on topic on the lost GX 500 that is truly disappointing it has yet to be released. -
Yeah, sadly the GX500 seems to be vaporware at this point. Still no release.
-
Well Marshall changed his post, which is looking like it might not have an 860M anymore... That's something at least
GX500 - Meet The Coolest Ultra-thin 15.6â Gaming Notebook -
Its pretty obvious it will launch with a Broadwell i7 and GTX960-970-980M early next year.
Also if you look at the most recent pics, there is a design change. (Its not final yet, ASUS is checking interest first.)

first one is blocked by proxy. can you rehost?

Both are working for me, on 2 different computers...

its a proxy issue - it has nothing to do with your computer vs. mine. i'm at work.
use imgur or photobucket (please).

would everyone please take to FB/G+/Twitter and start bombing ASUS with demands for explanation on if they plan on "upping" the specs to Maxwell chips? The delays are unacceptable and an underperforming laptop (heat issues, etc) is unacceptable at the price it's rumored. I don't care if there are shortages with the 4k screens, this laptop is obsolete at its current asking price.
-

Why not just wait and see, buy it if it suits you or go else where. Asus is going to listen to cash over Facebook bombing.
-
what cash are they listening to if a product doesn't exist? we've been in "wait and see mode" since the thread opened back in June. social media has success and if enough of us make noise, maybe we can squeeze a little more information out of ASUS.
-
I don't know how much the price will be, considering how much the razer blade pro and the msi gs60 costs. On the other hand there is Lenovo Y50-70 (59427359) which is identical to the speculated asus gx500 (yes I've also read that the screen on the lenovo though is terrible) but it costs 1560 dollars today. My dream is that the Gx500 comes out with a 970m, and costs around 2000 dollars, then I would be so happy.
-
Well a GX500 with 970m would be a dream come true, though we still have no info on anything.
-
Well, if it hasn't been out by now, it really can't compete in the gaming department with other laptops having the 970m, especially at $2000.
-
If they want to sell it, they should add a Gigabit ethernet port and use an Intel WiFi AC card. Gamers prefer cable over wifi so they can save some money in WiFi. Using CPU cycles to use Ethernet through USB is not nice.
Also, they should upgrade the 860m to a 970m. With their full aluminum chassis heat shouldn't be a big problem and new Maxwell produces less heat than the first generation. 6 GB of VRAM is not a bad idea too. OpenCL / CUDA can benefit greatly from that, and future proofing for games is also a necessity if we are talking about a laptop which costs as much as $2000 without possibility for ugprading the GPU later.
That laptop is already 2.2 Kg. You have the MSI GS60 at 1.9 Kg with a 3K screen (no wide gamut), a 970M., 2xM2 slots and a SATA HDD. A 150W AC adapter with a size similar to the Razer Blade should be added to the package.
The 4K screen is good and allows perfect scaling at 1080p. Supposedly the NANOSYS sheets allows them to produce those high gamut screens without any substantial increase in manufacturing costs. They alread removed the touch screen for the GX500.
In conclusion: add gigabit ethernet port, upgrade to 970m and push 6GB of VRAM. The 860M is just an 850M with higher clocks. -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Maxwell 2 is more efficient than maxwell 1 per watt but they are much larger chips so do draw more power over all.
-
I expect the GX500 to be released early next year, with GTX970M-GTX980M + Broadwell i7. (The 6GB-8GB GPU versions aren't going to happen unless ASUS is making a board with extra VRAM.)
The GX500 will most likely employ copper heatsinks, side + bottom vents, and smart dual fan cooling. (ASUS does not want to produce a loud G-series flagship notebook.)
The screen in the GX500 is probably the best to ever be put in a notebook. (Color gamut 100% NTSC, great black levels, and viewing angles.) (Great scaling for 1080p gaming.)
M.2 SATA raid 0, don't expect it to be cheap... ($1,899-2,499)

At least there's an update from Asus themselves. 2015 it is then.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
This is why setting your hopes on a machine that's not got a firm date can be dangerous. 2015 could be quite interesting for this class of machine though
-
If its been Delayed I'd Like a 980M please. I'm Super Stoked for this laptop but since it wont be out for a Long time! I think I'll just buy myself a EVGA GTX980 SUPERCLOCKED
Also why didnt they Give an Update. before, So fustrating -
Hehehe called it!
-
If you read the answer to that last question on Facebook, they said there is no cooling that will support the 980M in such a thin notebook. I think you can probably count on a 970M, but I can tell you now it will still be reasonably hot unless they have some magical fans nobody else has heard of. Since they're waiting till 2015, I bet it will be 960M and maybe a 970M option.
"Unfortunately there is no cooling technology that can make a <15mm notebook suitable for a 980M or equivalent high-end graphics product. It requires G751 size to appropriately cool it. We cannot comment on an availability date and revised specification until the launch now sorry." -
Screw it. i was waiting forever for this thing but I just ordered this:
CyberPower Fangbook Edge Gaming Notebooks w/ NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M Graphics - Legit Reviews
Subtotal was $1807.85:
Its also an added bonus that they are 15 miles away from where I live in an area I visit often. I was able to do the order for pickup and if I need to return or send back for repairs I can just drop it off.
Also happy they allowed me to save $60 by not including Windows (This thing will mostly be for linux).
When the new GTX 970m/980m came out with the unbelievable jump in performance over existing notebook GPU's I knew I was going to want one of these and i knew the 980 would not work in any kind of small form factor which I am now used to with my macbook pro retina.
My requirements were:
15" 3840x2160 display
Geforce gtx 970m or better
core i7 with HT
gigabit ethernet onboard.
(home connection is 300/300 megabits and wireless wont keep up. not a fan of USB ethernet adapters, thunderbolt ok as PCI-E).
Display port 1.2+ (2x or displayport + HDMI) for 4k@60hz support externally.
This is the first notebook I have seen that satisfied all of my requirements. just slightly thicker than my 2012 macbook pro retina I am upgrading from but also slightly lighter. Significantly cheaper though. -
Quite interesting machine. But after looking at the pics I was wondering where I had seen this design before... Now I found out again: It is from MSI's GS60 Ghost Pro.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yes they are a reseller, not many people actually make machines.
-
I like the logo better than the GS60.

did anyone post these yet?
911! GX500! Will It Have 980M and 4K Screen? ASAP? Help! Life or Death!
also...
1. obviously this guy is blowing smoke, but i'd be severely disappointed if they went AMD.
2. it's interesting specific "options" being thrown out. Again, probably just smoke, but they seem specific considering.
3. proof that this has seriously gone back to the drawing board. -
Looking forward to the 4k screen, 950M/960M GPU and slim, mac-like understated design.
When does Nvidia announce the slower, cooler models anyway? -
Probably December? I'm only guessing since Asus delayed their model so far away. If they could have put a 970M in there they would have announced it by now. There's no telling when the other models will be out. Nvidia's timetable is all screwed up from the botched 800 series launch.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
It's more to do with the process shift being delayed that impacted the schedule.
-
I would not be disappointed if they went AMD next year, since they could have a 20nm + HBM ram gpu ready by then.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
We will see, I'm sure if amd get a killer product out then it would be used.
-
i would. personal opinion but I wouldn't buy it. i jumped the AMD bandwagon some time ago and none of their chips have impressed me since. i don't have any sound logic or examples other than personal opinion.
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The 7970M was pretty impressive at launch, the enduro issues did kick in but if you had a non enduro setup the jump from the 570/580 was very nice.
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
AMD has very powerful GPUs but not CPU, therefore they started to require everyone to bundle the GPU with their CPU therefore we may not provide any sufficient help. -
So how long before a snappy quad core broadwell processor is actually released?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
The rumours are that boardwell is being skipped over on the larger class of machines.
-
Sauce?
Everywhere seems to be saying Skylake is delayed, not Broadwell skipped.
