Is there any way to automatically install things from the Drivers pack?

Or do you have to install it manually. If so how? (sorry for a nooby quesiton)

I don't know if it has been mentioned before but...
A little edit thing I found out for the Direct Console...
Open up Direct Console and set it to user mode and put something random in, and then save/apply it then close the problem
Then make a 1bit bmp, thats 32x(a multiple of 32) and replace the USERMODE.BMP thats in the "C:\Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Direct Console" directory
Then reopen Direct Console, the bmp you made will display.
With some creativity you can make some pretty fun stuff :)

http://members.cox.net/miyabina/USERMODE.BMP is my current one (I like some trailing space so it doesn't wrap and makes it look a bit better to me)

Did you download the drivers off laptopvideo2go.com? If so, you need to also download the modded .INF file from the same webpage that you downloaded the drivers from. Once you finish downloading the modded .INF, you need to copy and paste it into extracted driver's folder (replacing the old .INF file). Run the setup after this and it should detect your video card.

    Hello

I had the same problem.. You must enter in device manager and turn off "Intel ICH8 PCI Express Root Port #3". That should help :)

Same problem too :) .. You must install D-Max camera drivers from device manager. I Installed drivers for MS Vista and problem with picture gone ;)

    Sory for my language

BTW.. I'm back to Vista.. it's not that bad ;)

    My first post here!

Thanx to NilsG I finally feel the power of asus g1s !

You folks that have problems, DID you read NilsGs HOW TO at all,and followed it 100 percent ?
Look in the Drivers section of the ISO and install them in the order the HOW TO says ( HOW TO is in the drivers directory too)
Look in the Asus_Utilities section of thr ISO for Asus programs.

This ISO worked 100 percent for me with 4GB ram and I also read NilsGs explanation on switches earlier, macine see 3.5GB ram.
Vista is sluggish and the looks is like from a dumb fairytale :p

    XP roxxx :D

But Yes.. I follow all instruction in 100%. Only disable'ing "Intel ICH8 PCI Express Root Port #3" help for me. I have 3GB ram.

Well - I'm from Norway and I prefer the english version of any OS since the updates/patches always will come for the english version first :)
Regarding your root port problem - did you try to uninstall it and thereafter do a "Scan for hardware changes" ?
I have as said before installed XP on three G1S ; two of them had 4GB RAM installed.
The only problem I have had was with my own machine - MediaCenter refused to work after updates - did a reinstall and then everything turned out ok.

Using "hacked" laptopvideo2go drivers might be tempting - but I would NOT do it on a MediaCenter installation - I have a feeling that the MediaCenter part of XP would not work..... (without knowing this for sure).

    My pleasure :p

Just purchased my new G1s-B1 with 3 gigs memory yesterday and the first thing I want to do is install XP, so....I have a feeling this is a stupid question, but...

The iso located here to install XP on a G1S:

    http://www.ocshoot.no/binaries/AsusG1S/

It's 1 gig large...so I can't burn it to a cd obviously, how are you guys installing it? From a DVDR? Thanks.

Also, the cd key from my cd of XP Pro that I bought 2 years ago will work when I install this, correct?

    Hi.
Well. I'm not try uninstal it. I'm only disable this port.
But if You installed XP on others machine's with 4GB ram, maybe this problem is only in machine's with 3GB ram ?! Hmm.. strange..
I'll try it and I will let You know ;)

    Excellent. Thanks a lot.

Last question...I've read through the whole thread, but still confused...if I install with this ISO do I still need to do the slipstream thing for SATA? Or disable sata in bios?

I believe the online posted ISO already has slipstreamed drivers. Give it a shot with AHCI enabled in BIOS and see if it works. If it doesn't, then disable AHCI and try again. :)

I am wondering as the top of my G1S is easily getting scrateched.. Do you know a site or some sort of thing that allows you to create some sort of skin or cover for the top of the G1S?

Something that is computerrelated - and why I prefer my desktop in favor of any laptop - anyday...

This is hardware raid - and is extremely faster in real life than matrix raid.
Using my laptops feels reall slow and sluggish compared to my desktop - a laptop is no desktop substitute - and will never be :)

    System :
    Intel Core2 6700 @ 4003MHz (aircooled)
    4GB corsair Dominator 8500 C5D @ 3-4-4-4-2 sync
    Areca 1210 controller (Intel 500MHz CPU / 256 MB ram) - 2x Raptor X 150GB
    2x 8800GTX
    2x Promise SataII (hotswap) controllers
8x backplanes - total ~5 Terrabyte of storage +++ a bunch of eSATA and USB drives

Still - fun with G1S - but it's only something I use when away from home...

I remember installing the ethernet driver using the "Have Disk" method.

As far as the base system device, you can install that by inserting the G1s drivers CD for vista and having XP search for the driver on the DVD drive. It will detect it and install the device just fine.

XP install went great, but my NIC does not seem to work correctly. I plugged in my Ethernet and nothing works, the driver is working correctly, in fact, all hardware has been found.

Any ideas? I guess I will ask, for people that has a working Ethernet, what is your driver version and date?

    Hello chaps

Could someone please confirm if the 169.09 drivers from laptopvideo2go.com the "best" Vista 32 bit drivers for the G1S currently?

    Many thanks,

    What is the problem?

I have tried these drivers: 156.75, 163.44, 165.01, 169.01, 169.04, 169.09, 169.12 and my best 3dmark06 score is only 3338. I've been reading that normally people get around 3800 without oc.
On load my gpu temp rises 98c and what I've read its pretty average temperature. On idle temp is stable between 65-70c. Couple weeks ago I sent my laptop to asus and they send it back (fan reassembly). So the problem isnt hardware anymore. I hope only some of my settings are in disorder etc.

I have removed all unnecessary bloatwares. I also have done things which are listed here:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=179315
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/show...t=vista+tweaks
I have also done rmcpu things but no help at all
( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=169410 ) Should I use recover cd that came with my g1s? reinstall vista? gentlemen, please help me find solution so I can get my g1s work as it should

    specs: g1s: t7500, 2gb ram, 8600m gt ddr3 256, hd 5400.

Hey, this is a general question to VISTA. Ever noticed how slow file transfer can go? - and that vista don't like to transfer more then about 6 GB at a time? - anyone got solutions for this?

Belga, im not sure, are you running 3Dmark06 on default (Trial)?

Ye ofc I am, and so are everyone else. Normal 3dmark06 result for g1s @ 1280x1024 is around 3800. If I use stock drivers I get 2600points

Irathi could u add at begining of this topic how to fix VgaSave on XP with 3-4gb ram?
    just paste this:

If u updated ur G1S with 3-4gb ram u propably cant install GPU/VGA drivers cuz XP uses some wierd VgaSave driver.
Solution: run everest, on chipset tab find northbridge and southbridge, on one of them at the bottom here are 5 ICH8 Root Ports.
Propably 2 of them are empty but in hardware manager they r using resources and they are causing conflict with GPU/VGA.
Just disable them in Hrdware Manager and XP shoudl detect new VGA hardware after restart, now u can easly instal your fresh moded drivers for nvidia from laptopvideo2go.com ;]

and another short fix for ppl that have problems with instaling XP on 4gb ram from asus recovery cd:

If u have 3-4gb ram in your G1S and trying to instal XP from asus recovery cd and ure recovery freezes at "Now Recovering..."
Solution: just remove 2 gb module or reduce ram to 2gb or less cuz aplication used to recover just dont like if there is more than 2 gb ram in laptop

and another question what place u recomend to put about 700mb big files, so they wont disapear after month when no one wont download or something like that?
i want to upload complete cd with all fresh drivers and software for g1s and 2 asus recovery cds - polish xp only unforunatelly ;/ since G1S is supported as vista ultimate and bussines downgrade to xp there should be no legal problems with that, but mostly i want to upload that drivers and software and short "how to" ;]

guys which of freeware av u recomend? avast avg avira bitdefender or any other that have proactive guardian so it wont be only on demand scanner ;]
and what freeware fw u recomend? zone komodo syngate or other ?? ;]

If you go into the device manager, there is one of the hardware with an exclamation. You need to manually install the driver for that hardware. I basically used the search for driver in a specific folder method and pointed it to the audio drivers folder. That will detect the rest of audio drivers and install them correctly.

I've tried that already. Comes up at zilch. I was expecting an exclamation on the PCI Device item, but it's just there under unknown devices. I've tried most of the available drivers for xp and used the ones for the G1 as well. None of them have worked so I don't know if it's my copy or my pc.

Hmm...try doing an automatic search for drivers on the Vista Drivers CD that came with your G1s. I know it sounds crazy, but I remember doing that for one of my devices in XP.

Hi There. I'm looking at getting a G1S with 4GB of RAM & Vista Ultimate 32bit. I have the intension of using the /pae boot switch option to access the entire amount of RAM.

Can someone who has a G1S with 4GB please confirm if the pae does in-fact give a total RAM amount of 4gb? Even better, a screenshot from the Vista's System Control panel would be good as well.

I have recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 1520 and even with /pae can only see 3.5GB so I wanted to know if this is an issue of the dell chipset used or not.

The first post of the thread mentions that this point (6) about the 4gb ram is still yet to be confirmed, so I'm hoping someone can shed some light.

    Many Thanks :)

I've done the force PAE mode and if i type "BCDEDIT" it will even list PAE as Forced. Which means it should show me 4 GB ram, but when i type ctrl+alt+del and look at it, it shows 3 GB..

I'm attempting to put XP Pro on my G1S.

The .iso in the beginning of the thread doesn't recognize my HDD during setup and I can't find the SATA drivers to make my own slipstream. Anyone have any ideas? I really can't stand Vista.

As a new gs1 owner i wanted to give back to the community for some of the great information that has been posted here. Someone asked why vista is slow at moving files. I wont bore you with the details but there is a hotfix for it here. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/931770

    Enjoy

    Hi guys.
I will say one thing up front.
I really like my ASUS G1.
    BUT.
Unfortunately I bought it from Best buy.
I have several issues with my best but purchase.
One they advertised the computer as having a Intel 7500 CPU the unit in my computer is a 7300. Hell the box it came in did not even have the CPU type on it It was weird.
They did not mention the fact that if you buy the unit from Best buy that you were stuck with GEEK SQUAD service. Not factory service. Infact when asked I was told that the computer had a stock factory warranty.
This came to the fore front when I sent a message to asus about an Issue I am have with keystroke dropout and lag. ASUS directed me to Geek Squad.
    Man I was pissed.
The Geek squad people were NO help they had no idea what I was talking about and tried to sell me on a home visit to fix the computer.
    What Baloney.
Best buy has ignored my messages to them regarding these issues.
What ever you do Do NOT buy your ASUS from Best Buy.
I am very happy I bought the computer with my American Express card.
Anybody have any ideas about how to deal with my keystroke dropout /lag issue?

    Thanks
    Yaesumofo
