205? You mean 203 right?
-
-
-
No, 205 is out. Would seem logical that they are applying their fix to other models.
-
Not sure if I trust this. 203 nearly bricked my computer. Anyone else can verify (with missed keystrokes / touchpad issues as bad as mine) that it's stable and actually fixes the problems?
-
if you are afraid of flashing, then curl up somewhere dark and become roadkill on the information superhighway. I've done dozens of flashes w/o issues. Just make sure the file is intact before flashing. The JW I am running is on 205 w/o issue.

You don't put out a BIOS if it does absolutely nothing

Has anyone else noticed that if your computer goes into sleep mode with the screen already dimmed it stops the fn + f6 keys from working when it is awakened. The animation comes up but it does not change the screen brightness. A reboot fixes it. I think this started after I installed the latest ATK package.
-
I have the laptop set to sleep when you close the top, and I run it on high-performance with a reduced screen brightness...
I haven't rebooted the laptop since doing a Win7 SP1 update through windows update last weekend, so that would be at least 4-5 sleep/wakeup cycles...
I have just raised screen brightness with Fn+F6 and lowered it with Fn+F5...
I am on BIOS 213, latest ATK, Synaptics v15.0.11... Latest Power4Gear as well... -

-
He's talking about the JW, Kuro
-
Just close and open the lid (provided you your system ins't set for sleeping when the lid is closed) and Fn+F6 will work again. -
G73JW BIOS 203 change log:
BIOS + Driver initial time > 2000ms during S3 resume process. (WHQL)
(Workaround but not solution because this is not BIOS issue)
To implement License key for 3D Vision.
Set the "play post sound" to yes then insert earphone device, the ASUS
LOGO sound does display from it with speaker at the same time.
Instant button used to switch 2D/3D mode can not work normally.
ASUS FancyStart feature will be removed from latest Marketing SPEC.
To implement new thermal/battery protection according to EE &Battery
members` suggestion.
To update thermal policy for MP products.
I don't think there's been much said about 205. Still the whole "ASUS releases BIOS's that do nothing" is a load of poop. -
can Garry close this thread now and open new one for a vbios or creative ....
-
-
Edit: flashed to 205. Touchpad just freaked on me. A few keystrokes have dropped already while typing this post. Mainly "e"s. -
better RMA it ( i would if i had some asus centre near)
... every touchpad reacts differently and they can't provide one solution for everyone...i think you guys have a hardware problem
but okay i don't want to kill your hopes -

No one ever posts when things are going right but the keyboard fix is good. 213 Bios with the drivers Gary Key stated in the first message work great.
I DJ for a living so when typing songs I would never be able to quickly find them cause I would always miss letters and now this fix has made my life a lot easier. -
Hopefully there will either be a new Bios, or updated touchpad/KB filter/etc drivers, to allow both the inbuilt keyboard and touchpad to play nicely together!
I just use a USB mouse all the time, but would be nice to have the option of using touchpad again. -
-
I have BIOS 213, no missing keystrokes and the touchpad is good enough, it is not perfect but it is very usable. I feel much happier about my G73 now. Guys with bad TPs have you tried clean install of the drivers?
-
Is there anyone with a G73JW with a touchpad problem... It is so frustrating having this touchpad issue. I was thinking of emailing the retailer where I bought mine from to see if they have a fix for the tp issue, I am betting they don't. The sad thing is I am thinking of buying a jw to replace my jh. I really like this laptop but it really irks me that it does not work the way it should. I should probably consider another manufacturer but there are many good things about the g73 to consider. I have no interest in buying something that has flashing lights all over it or over the top coloring. I like the conservative look of the G73s. I have already started angeling to hand off this lemon to my wife, she uses a desktop exclusively so the tp would not be an issue, I can then justify purchasing something that works correctly. It is sad though that a machine that I have only owned for 7 months needs to be replaced.

Since Gary Key hasn't logged on in about a month I edited the first post to link to the download page with 213.

There is no 215 for the G73JH

Like many of you I noticed that when I press down on the palm rest on the left side about an inch away from the tp it would stop working. Even after the finger or palm pressure was released the tp would not return to normal operation. This issue explains why the tp will fail often while typing. I am not sure whether it is the flexing movement that causes it to glitch or if it causes two surfaces to touch that should not.
To stop the flexing I removed the screws that come up from the bottom along the very front of the machine. I then used a knife and gently pried the palm rest up and away from the bottom casing. It pops up quite easily. I popped it all the way along but did not pry where the lights are. The lights are attached to the palm rest and you have to be careful not to lever against them. I pulled the palm rest up far enough so I could insert a pen in between the two pieces to wedge it open. I then inserted two pieces of coreplast that were cut about an inch square and stacked one on top of the other. I tried just one at first but it did not give the support needed. Two seemed to be just right. When you look inside the machine there is a nice level surface to the left of the tp, just slide them in and when you snap the palm rest back down they will be wedged.
It has been a few hours since I made the modification and so far so good. I can now rest my palm on the palm rest or press down on it and the tp is not affected. I am not convinced this is the only thing that makes the tp crap out, anyway I think it will help the situation.
Edit March 6, 2011: Touchpad still working without any glitches.
Step by Step guide -
@More - yea, its weird. after reading so many post, maybe its both hardware and software related. For me, touching near the center at random times would cause mine to go haywired. But now its getting better from these updates.
it still exist though. -

New drivers at Drivers-Station 15.2.11 instead of 15.2.7 from synaptics site.
-
Getting the numbers mixed up I guess
-
guys i have a question about the synaptic stuff
i am using the newest driver and sometimes when i scroll at the edge of the pad it opens me a video window .... it is so annoying
how to disable it? -
I think its from the synaptics option, right click the synaptic button in the system tray and go to touchpad properties. then go to tapping at the right side there is a wrench then disable the "tap zones"
-
thanks man
+1rep -
sure no problem, glad that you have fixed it
-
I just installed Synaptics Drivers 15.2.11 and its been going great so far. No going nuts even when I press down really hard right beside the touchpad (left and right). I also noticed the new drivers turn off pinch-zoom by default and got rid of two finger scrolling completely.
-
Where did you get the 15.2.11? The latest I saw is 15.2.7
-
It does seem odd though that the Synaptics web site does not have the latest version of their own driver...
-
Is what SpicySi linked legit?
-

It could be, just give it a virus scan. On that page, 15 Mo means megaoctet, or megabyte in French.
-
I installed the driver that is linked from above but the interface is from the older version it is the interface "in XP style" and it doesn't have scrybe, I'm gonna change back to 15.2.7 and wait for synaptics to release the new drivers.
I have a problem with my touchpad considering the "tap zones" because I use that feature a lot, I use the upper left zone for right click and lower left for mouse button 4. I tried to make the lower left zone turn the volume down it works, BUT when I use the upper right tap zone I does not work I tried making it turn volume up, right click, jump to start etc. But it doesn't work. how could I fix this because I really want it to work so I could make it turn volume up.
