I don't see a reason to install an older version first.

@Bandrik
I did the exact steps you provided, and the only thing I changed was step's 4 drivers which the latest is now R2.56.
However, my creative suite didn't install even though I did prompt it to install from the DVD main screen. It had done all that process of installing and asked me reboot, but when it rebooted Creative was nowhere to be found! XD
Any ideas?
Regardless, thanks for your insight! I think I'll just not use the creative stuff and keep the realtek stuff... -

Try using this one: Creative.zip
That one is a copy from the Asus Driver CD 1.0.
It worked for Bodycount69 on this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...m/545492-realtek-driver-help.html#post7028126.
Hope it works for you too. -
I downloaded it and tried to run it, but instead gave me the message "Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system. Setup will exit."

I just clicked the link directly in the quote of your post and was prompted to download the file.
You'll want to download and unpack it, not open it from its current location - it's ~1.6GB!
-
You need a program like 7-Zip to open up RAR files. Assuming you mean that you're not able to open the file afer you've downloaded it from Chastity.

Alright.....so I followed the first post and updated from the fast link and this completely boned my speaker system. I went from having speakers and a subwoofer that worked to ONLY the subwoofer playing songs from youtube. (used that for test.)
Hitting fn-f10 to mute it worked, but then not even the subwoofer would come back on after hitting fn-f11.
Coincidentally, I now have two speaker icons in my hardware section, where as before I only had one. I disabled the top one which allowed the second icon (bottom) to activate and this activates my two primary speakers. But now the subwoofer doesn't work. Serioulsy, what the hell. (If I set both speaker options on, with the bottom one as primary subwoofer does seem to work.)
Even better, did a reboot just in case and the subwoofer pops now during restart and the Windows boot chime is barely audible. Add to that, now when I plug in my headphones the main speakers shut down BUT THE SUBWOOFER STAYS ON, so now I can't listen to anything silently on my headphones.
Not to menton that it seems to have completely destroyed my microphone system too. Before, my built in mic worked, constantly to the point that it detected sound even when I wasn't using it. Now the mic won't work in ventrilo. It's bad enough that the system didn't recognize a mic when I plugged one into a jack. Now there is no built in or jack microphone capability.
Ventrilo prompts "Unable to activate Direct Sound for selected device. HR=DSERR_NODRIVER. No sound driver is available for use."
What driver do I need to download to restore this? This "fix" is a "break". -
Go into device manager, uninstall drivers for all audio devices using the "delete all software for this device" option. REBOOT! Windows may install default drivers - no problem.
Install the new downloaded drivers - follow the instructions if it tells you to reboot - may happen twice!! -
Did you read my first paragraph? I already updated to that executable driver. It's what broke the system.
The only difference is I used the fast download link. It's still the same executeable driver information.
I'll try the uninstall all trick and report back. -
Yeah I read your post. Am I supposed to know what a "fast link" is? I don't see that on the Realtek site, so I assumed you used the OP's mirror link. I would never use the mirror - don't trust them, so I suggested going direct to Realtek. Good luck.
-
If you're familiar with the OPs post then yes you'd know what the fast link is since the link says "Fast Download". Better yet, why are you referencing the realtek site as the origin of my fast link reference when I clearly was referencing the OP.
I'm still looking for the original driver information. Odds are doing the slow version of the same driver isn't going to work. -
Your problem appears to be that Windows setup your stereo speakers, and a separate Speaker setting for the subwoofer.
You should only have 3 under Playback Devices:
Speakers
Digital Out
HDMI Out
If you have 4, then you need to uninstall your Realtek drivers (I would do both audio and HDMI ones), run Driver Sweeper 2.85 to remove legacy settings (this is your problem, btw) AND DO YOUR REBOOTS BETWEEN UNINSTALLS AND INSTALLS. Very important. Then install Realtek audio, reboot, and then HDMI.
PITA I know but this is what works. -
Where would I download that safely. The sites I'm finding keep wanting me to sign up to their site.
OK, so I shut off my wifi connection to test something. Every time I uninstalled the drivers new drivers would automatically load. (figured maybe it's an W7 internet thing) After doing this I uninstalled both speakers and the HDMI.
Uninstalling the speaker drivers also uninstalled the Digital Audio (S/PDIF) which I had not chosen to uninstall. I was not prompted to reboot so I also uninstalled the ATI HDMI Output.
I reboot and lo and behold the system automatically loads up the same damn four drivers. What's my next step?
Update--
Downloaded drive sweeper 2.8.5 and the only realtek file it find is :
c:\Windows\system32\RtkAPO64.dll
Was that the right drive sweeper by the way or did I let google mess me up? -
Go into Device Manager and uninstall your audio devices there. Hit the checkbox for removing the drivers.
-
Realtek
http://pcaudio.ath.cx/stuff/DriverSweeper_2.8.5.zip - driver sweeper -
Thanks MarkS and Chastity. I swept out the remaining drivers and then just tried redownloading the update. It seems all set to go now and it even recognizes my microphone when I plug it into the jack. Before it woudn't and the built in mic would remain on. Ty Xellon also for verifying for me that I did indeed download the right sweeper.
Oh on a side note, any information on how to fix the built in mic? When I use it on Vent people tell me it sounds like a jet engine in the background or some sort of whirring workshop. I do have a laptop fan to raise it up that's a tad audible, but people tell me they still hear the sound even when I shut down the cooling pad. Which makes me think that somehow the cpu and gpu fans are somehow being detected or vibrating the mic. Even though they are almost silent.
Checklist to date:
Bios 211
VBios w/Overdrive (Chastity version)
Realtek HD Codec R2.57
Anything missing that I've overlooked? -
When speaking though the mic, make sure the microphone playback is on mute and the rec is at a good volume (maybe little below middle). -
ive had this issue with ventrilo and steam for as long as i can remember. i have a G72GX so this will help me to, yes? is this dangerous to the computer in any way? i dont exactly know much about all this what with the drivers and stuff :/ looking forward to a reply
-
Hey guys can you please help me. I went to there webiste and downloads the 2.58 version and saved it to my desktop. Once it was done I ran it and then it said restart. I restarted it and when I came back on, I don't know which .exe file to click on. Is it the one I saved or what? Cuz the one I saved just restarts the process. Now whenever I get on my Asus I can't get on for more than 3 minutes of the Internet without it freezing and I have to force the shut off. Please someone email me the solution or help me out at [email protected] or [email protected]! Thanks for the pro help! (If I get it)
-
once u download and start the exe, it first uninstalls ur previous drivers, then you have to restart. then u must double click the exe again to install -
Now my sound works fine*- and Big help on LAST reply!* -
edit - oh, looks like ver 2.58 must of came out not too long ago. I'll have to update later. thx for letting me know btw xD -
-
or does it recover after a minute?
do you hear any noise while its frozen? -
I have an ASUS g73 best buy version:
-specs-
processor: Intel® Core i7 1.73GHz
video card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870
RAM: 6GB
Operating System: Windows 7 64bit
and I have been having similar lock up problems. However, I am not using any creative software (I uninstalled what I could and turned off what I could not uninstall).
When I try to install dragon age 2, the menu pops up just fine. But if I try to click on anything in that window my computer immediately freezes with a repetitive sound. From this point it must be hard booted.
I am running direct x 11 and I updated the latest drivers as of a month ago. I have tried ending all unessential background tasks and the problem persists.
I was able to install it in safe mode, but it still freezes when I try to run it in regular mode.
Furthermore, since I began this installation adventure, my computer has frozen a couple of times when I was not trying to install the game. This problem was not happening before.
If anyone has any suggestions on the cause for this please help me out. -
Upgrade your realtek drivers to the latest and see if that helps.
Realtek
If it doesn't, and if you are on windows 7 service pack 1, I would do a fresh reinstall of windows, install wireless drivers, upgrade to service pack 1. If you aren't on SP1, upgrade to it. You can just go to windows update and update manually. If you get an error, try going to service and stopping windows update, then starting it. -
I updated the driver and everything works great now.
Thanks for your help! -
i've installed the latest realtek drivers.
now my fn+10 does is only mute the laptop. if i want to unmute, i need to click the sound icon and max the volume. but the icon stays "mute"
oh and only the left speakers work now. imma try to downgrade in awhile. -
i found another solution, i used the fixamd64 bit solution and both speakers and subwoofer now work. but i still have an option to test my left and right speaker in the sound icon. the left is still weak. right still strong. but right now i can hardly tell the difference if the left is weak still or whatnot.
-
Try doing a full reset of the driver defaults
-
Can anyone upload the original creative audio center from the driver disc?the link from chastity is not working. And i have a problem the the creative center i downloaded from the asus website. Please help me. Thanks.

http://pcaudio.ath.cx/stuff/G73JW-DriverCD_Win7.rar
Links working for me. Is that asusrog.com server not working for you? -
Okay! i know what's wrong now. the sound icon gives me two speakers. one for the subwoofer, and the other one for the two speakers. i can't seem to make both of them work at the same time. that's why the volume became weak.
i installed the stock audio drive, did a reboot then installed the next version of it. it now gave me an "unable to find an srs audio compatible bla bla"
installed the 2.55 drivers, rebooted, still the same error.
some thread said i don't need to reinstall audigy. buut i went ahead and tried it.
aaand it's now working!
although if i tick the bass boost box it goes to "creative blabla not responding". but everything is okay now -
thanks chastity
,.i will try with the stock drivers., i have same problem with AsILayDaing, when i enable the bass boost "creative not responding". my bass is too weak.
you're using the stock creative audio?coz me i'm using the upraged creative adio from chastity and it gives me problem with the bass boost same as you. -
Works! thanks a bunch!
-
Okay, this thread is pretty outdated now. I have read it through and through, and I have the same problems that have been mentioned with regard to Creative Audio Center locking up when I attempt to enable "bass boost."
Also, many of the links that are provided on this page are long outdated and have been removed, including the original poster's link which is a Megaupload link (which has been taken down).
If anyone can help me resolve this Creative Audio Center problem, I would be eternally thankful. -
I can confirm that my Creative software still freezes the system from time to time and even with latest Realtek (it can happen once in 3 or 6 months but it happens)
but i cant live without creative software so i get used to it
so if you dont like freezes at all remove Creative software -
Well there HAS to be a solution for this. I get absolutely NO bass from my subwoofers.
I just want to be able to use Creative Audio Center again. Again, many of the solution links in this thread are outdated. It's 2012 now. -
After calling Asus, the tech tried to convince me to reset my pc back to factory default! Really?
Is the problem with Creative Audio Center so extreme that I have to result to this? -
I really hope someone here can help get this problem resolved not just for me, but all of us who can't get this fixed!
Again, many of the old links are either broken or outdated. -

Hello FlamesOfOrigin, have you tried installing the latest Realtek Drivers (2.67)? You can download it at their website on this link.
Uninstall first your old Realtek Drivers and then reboot then install the new one you have downloaded. -
Hi JehutyZeroshift. Thank you for helping me out with this. I did exactly what you suggested and it still didn't work.
I uninstalled old Realtek Drivers, rebooted, installed Realtek Drivers 2.67, rebooted, installed latest Creative Audigy Driver from Asus' website:
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download G73Jh
and rebooted again.
What am I doing wrong? I've done this about 5 times. Beyond frustrated. I'm about to "reboot' my laptop out of the window. -
-
ryboto, at any point did you try running driver sweeper to remove all traces of the audio software, or CCleaner? IF you try either be sure you are running the latest versions of each and I would recommend a system image B4 running if you are not familiar with using either program.
-
Guys, I'm still not getting this fixed.
-
bump. can anyone please help me resolve this once and for all?
-
Flames_of_Origin After you remove the drivers via uninstalling try running (in Safe mode) DriverSweeper 3.2 Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper
You may have 3 entries (at least I do) for Asus sound, creative sound and Realtek sound
As Mite_Jan said you do not need creative for the woofer to work (assuming this is not a hardware issue such as a loose connection)
Last resort would be a clean install of win 7 http://forum.notebookreview.com/asu...lk-through-doing-clean-windows-7-install.html -
Thank you Josea and everyone else for your patience with me. I've tried it (even with drivesweeper) again and I'm still not getting it to work.
I'm going to just pass on Real Tek/Creative whatever. Are there any other programs out there that will allow me to use my subwoofer?
Again, thanks for all of the support.
